Journey Through the World
Chapter 1: Prologue
Gold Roger, the "King of the Pirates," had achieved everything. He had it all, wealth, fame, and power. Unsurprisingly, the final words he spoke before they lobbed off his head inspired adventures throughout the world to sail the seas.
"You want my Treasure? Why it's right where I left it…It's yours if you can find it…but you'll have to search the whole world!"
The world…is about to witness a Great Era of Piracy!
[Twelve Years Later]
On a small harbor village a pirate ship made the village it's base. The wind blows from the east and the village is at peace.
"Hey, Luffy! What're you up to now?!" A voice yelled from the deck of the ship towards a young boy standing at the bow of the ship.
The boy's named Luffy grunted before holding up a small blade and speaking. "I've had it with you guys! Now you'll have to take me seriously! This is how tough I am!"
This boy's full name is Monkey D. Luffy the fated main character.
"Hahaha! Get it over with! Whatever it is…" A red-haired man in a straw hat said.
A man standing next to the man asked next, "What's that pup up to now?"
Luffy then does something incredibly stupid and reckless and uses the knife in his hand to cut himself right under his left eye terrifying the entire crew and grunting in pain.
"You idiot! What'd you do that for!?" The group of 'pirates yelled at the boy.
Not long later the group was in a bar in the village called Party Bar after getting Luffy's face patched up. At the bar, they had encountered Luffy's sister Lucy who was getting her own face patched up after taking a fall and getting a cut oddly similar to Luffy's under her right eye.
"A toast! To Luffy's…courage…and our great voyage!" The pirates yelled as they drank with merriment talking and partying like there was no tomorrow.
"I wanna be a pirate too!" Both Luffy and Lucy said at the same time.
"You two?! Pirates?! Impossible!" The red-haired man said laughing at the two. "You two can't even swim you'd just sink! What good is a pirate who can't swim?"
This man was the captain of the Red Haired Pirates, 'Red-Haired' Shanks.
"Hey!" The two yelled at him before looking at each other and laughing.
After they stopped laughing they had a small debate with each other about who should talk first. Soon the two came to a decision.
Luffy started first. "But so long as we don't fall overboard then it doesn't matter if we can't swim."
"And we're strong fighters!" Lucy continued, "We've been training! Our punches are as powerful as pistols!"
With that the two punched forward towards the air.
Though Shanks didn't seem impressed. "A pistol, eh? Is that so…"
"Are you doubting us!" The two screamed at the man with sharp teeth.
All the other crew members began yelling encouragement to the twins but one thing they said. "And best of all pirates have Freedom!"
"C'mon Cap'n… Let's take the kids with us just this once…" One of the crewmembers said getting agreement from several others.
Shanks didn't even glance back and said, "Alright, but two of you have to stay behind…"
"Sorry, you two have been beached! Let's drink!" The group said at the same time ticking the two off.
"You two are just too young. Maybe in 10 years, when you're both 18, I'll give you a chance." Shanks said pointing at the two with a spoon.
The two looked angered by this but before the two could say anything Shanks spoke again.
"Don't get upset now, here have some juice." He said as Makino, the proprietor of the bar, placed two cups of juice on the counter for them.
"Okay." The two said sitting down to drink it.
"See! A real pirate would never drink juice!" Shanks laughed at them.
"That's a dirty trick!" The twins yelled at him.
Shanks was just sitting there laughing so the two started walking away grumbling at the red-haired man's dismissal of them.
"C'mon you two, the captain's just doing what's best for everyone…" The first mate of the Red-Haired Pirates, Benn Beckman said, and seeing that he had their attention he continued. "The safety of the entire crew and ship rests on his shoulders. Being a pirate isn't all fun and games, you know… there are lots of duties like…pillaging, hostage-taking, heavy drinking…and swimming! And the captain knows all about the dangers of the sea too. It can kill you in a thousand ways! It's not that he wants to crush your dream of becoming a pirate."
The two looked at each other and cocked their heads to the side unable to formulate a response before Makino comes back from the backroom and looks upon the pirate crew with a smile.
"Captain Shanks! It's good to see you all are enjoying yourselves but do remember that I don't have an unlimited quantity of alcohol back here. In fact, this is the last barrel." Makino said holding a barrel of beer. "Oh, Luffy, Lucy would you two like something to eat?"
"Yes!" The two yelled before Luffy snickered and added, "Just put it on gramps tab."
"Oh, who's your gramps Luffy?" Shanks asked having not seen or heard of anyone related to Luffy since landing here.
"Gramps doesn't come here often due to being a Marine but he's really important to them." Luffy said shaking in excitement to get some food.
"Wait, what's your full name again?" He asked with an idea of who their grandfather was.
"Monkey D. Lucy/Luffy!" The two called out without a care in the world unbeknownst to them they cause a great storm to the entire crew.
Shanks was the first to call out what the group had just found out. "You mean your Gramps is the 'Marine Hero' Monkey D. Garp?!"
"Yup!" The two said as Makino placed food in front of them.
Not long later after they had eaten most of their food Lucy asked Shanks, "Shanks how long are you guys gonna stay here."
"Hmm…Let's see…We've been using this village as our base for about a year…so after about two or three more voyages we'll leave for good and head north." Shanks said after a few minutes of thinking.
"I see…" Lucy said looking a little sad.
"Two or three more trips, eh?" Luffy said to himself. "I'm gonna learn how to swim by the time you leave!"
Shanks laughed at this and said, "That's good kid, do whatever you want."
At this point the door to the bar was suddenly kicked and flew off its hinges revealing a small group of people.
"Make way for the scourge of the mountain!" The man in the front of the group said before laughing slightly. "So you call yourselves pirates, eh? First time I've seen pirates…you look like a sorry lot to me."
The man then walked towards the counter standing right next to Shanks.
This man was Higuma 'the Bear', leader of his own group of mountain bandits.
"We're mountain bandits, now unless you want some trouble bring us some alcohol." The man said with an ugly smile on his face.
While this was happening, unbeknownst to the crew, Luffy and Lucy had both found a small chest that contained two fruits which the two had taken a bite out of one each only to be disgusted by them.
"Ah, I'm sorry but I just gave the last of our alcohol to Shanks and his group." Makino said not really sure what to do at the moment.
Right at this moment the man gained an incredibly angry expression but Shanks spoke up stopping the man from reacting violently.
"Now I feel kinda guilty, I guess we should have used a bit more moderation, sorry about that." Shanks said though from his smile he didn't seem all that sorry. He then lifted a bottle towards the man and continued. "Here though you can have this one, it hasn't even been opened yet."
But the mountain bandit didn't seem to be pleased about this as he smashed the bottle covering Shanks in the contents of the bottle on him.
"What do you take me for?" The man said looking at Shanks with contempt. "You can't make a fool of me! What good is a single bottle of grog?"
Shanks however didn't even look at the man and simply looked at the mess stating, "What a mess."
"Look at this!" The man said pulling out a wanted poster. "I'm a wanted man you hear, my head's worth 8 million Beri. I've killed 56 people…mostly fools like you! So watch yourself if you're fond of breathing! If you're smart you'd sail away from here so I never see you again!"
"Sorry about the mess, Makino. Give me a rag I'll clean this up." Shanks said crouching down and picking up the glass on the ground.
Seeing that Shanks wasn't even paying him any mind Higuma drew his sword and slashed the counter next to Shank's head. "So, you like to clean? That ought to keep you busy for a while." After saying this he and his bandits left. "Farewell…Cowards."
"Captain, are you okay?" Makino asked, "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine. No harm done." Shanks said before he and his crew started laughing.
"He got you good Cap'n!" one of them said laughing.
At this point Luffy and Lucy yelled at the group. "You think it's funny?!"
Everyone stopped laughing and looked at the two.
"He made you look like a weakling! Why didn't you fight him?!" Luffy screamed at Shanks.
"You guys are so much stronger than them so them having more people shouldn't have scared you guys!" Lucy agreed looking at them. "What kind of man lets himself be treated like that and then laughs about it?!"
"…You two will understand once you're both older. He just got some grog on me, that's all. Needless killing doesn't make you a man." Shanks said placing his hat back on his head.
At this Luffy just cocked his head to the side but Lucy started walking away.
"Hey, where are you going?" Shanks said grabbing her arm.
"I'm going to go find a real role model!" She said continuing to walk causing her arm to stretch out surprising everyone.
"What?!" They all screamed out.
"Her arm is stretching!" Shanks said with a terrified look on his face. "Does this mean…did they?"
"They couldn't have!" The rest of the crew screamed.
"What's wrong with me?!" Lucy screamed in terror while Luffy for some reason just had a blank look on his face as though nothing that was happening was affecting him.
Lucky Roux ran over to the chest and opened it before screaming, "They've been bitten! The Devil Fruits have a bite taken out of them!" He then grabbed a book and opened it to a specific page and showed it to Lucy. "Lucy you took a bite out of this fruit didn't you?!"
On the page was a picture of the fruit Lucy had bitten, a round violet fruit covered in curly "S" like patterns, with a stem on top of it with a swirl on one side of it.
"Yeah…I thought it was for dessert. Though it tasted rancid." She said cocking her head to the side.
"You idiot!" Shanks said getting right in her face. "That was the Gum-Gum Fruit! A Devil Fruit that causes your entire body to become rubber! And you lose the ability to swim for the rest of your life!"
"What!?" She screamed in shock.
They then turn to Luffy who just shrugged at that and said, "Then we'll just never swim." As though it was the most normal thing in all the world surprising them all. He was oddly calm about this. "Though what was the other fruit then?"
"That one…we don't know. It was never recorded in the Devil Fruit Encyclopedia before. You very well may be the only one to have ever eaten it before." Shanks said wondering why Luffy was so calm about this.
"Cool, so we just need some training." Luffy said shocking Shanks before he nodded.
"Well, yeah, I guess." He said before exploding. "Why are you so calm about this?! You two can't swim ever again!"
"We didn't know how to swim, to begin with so we didn't really lose anything and we have cool powers to so there's nothing to be worried about." Luffy said with a shrug once more."
This caught everyone off guard but Lucy was suddenly smiling and said, "Right! Now we have cool powers so can we come with you guys now?"
"No…at least, not this time you two need to get used to your Devil Fruits first." Shanks said calming down finally. "Now I would say we party to celebrate your new powers but we're out of booze."
And with that their day ended.
[The Next Day]
Lucy and Luffy were walking down to the Fish Monger to get some fish.
"Hey, Mr. Fish Monger! Give us some fish!" They said at the same time.
"Hey you two! Why in such a good mood lately! The pirates set sail without you two today." The man behind the counter. "And you won't be able to swim for the rest of your lives."
"So, we couldn't swim before anyway, we'll just make sure that we never fall in the sea once we become pirates!" Luffy said getting a nod from his twin.
Lucy then stretched her cheeks and spoke. "I'm glad I ate the Gum-Gum Fruit…I mean look at what I can do!"
At this point the mayor of the town showed up and started talking about how being a pirate was a bad thing and how it would disgrace the village but the two just ignored his ranting and started walking away.
[Several Days Later]
"Those guys have been out sea for a while." Lucy said with a glum look on her face as Luffy nods in agreement.
"Do you two miss them?" Makino asked while whipping down a glass.
"After the way those mountain bandits humiliated them?! Not at all!" Lucy said afterward showing that she was still angry at them for what happened. "I really misjudged those guys! I thought they were brave and tough, but they're really just a bunch of wimps."
Makino and Luffy sighed at this causing Makino to look at him before she said, "Are you sure about that? Maybe sometimes it takes more courage not to fight back."
"You just don't understand, Makino. A real man has to stand up for himself, no matter what." Lucy said looking at Makino.
"Is that right? I guess I wouldn't understand, but how do you understand?" Makino asked raising an eyebrow at the 8-year-old girl.
"Well…" The girl started as her face was covered in a dull red blush as she herself wasn't a man and technically couldn't say she understood what her grandpa had been talking about.
Luckily she didn't have to answer as a voice suddenly came from the door of the bar.
"Make way for the 'Terror of the Highlands'!" Higuma called out stepping through the door with his bandits.
This surprised Lucy but Luffy and Makino just looked at them.
"No pirates today eh? Smells better…we were in the area, so we stopped by." The leader of the bandits said as they step forward and seat themselves. "What're you waiting for? We're customers! Server us drinks!"
[Not Long Later]
"Mayor! We've got a problem!" Makino yelled as she entered Wood Slap's house.
"Makino what's wrong?!" The man asked concerned.
"It's Lucy… and the mountain bandits!" She said with even more concern.
[With Luffy]
Luffy was watching as Higuma was holding his sister with a blank face making it so nobody could tell what he was thinking as he was surrounded by the bandits.
"You've got a strange body girl. Punching and kicking you aren't hurting you at all." Higuma said while looking at her before turning to Luffy. "What about you then, is your body like this girl's?"
Luffy did not react to him but Lucy drew Higuma's attention back to her. "Darn you! You'd better take it back! You jerk!"
She said that last line with a punch towards the man, but it was too telegraphed and he simply cocked his head to the side.
"There sure are some weird creatures in the world…eh rubber girl?" Higuma said before he threw her on the ground to the side. "I've discovered a new life form…"
"Darn you!" Lucy said looking at the bandit leader. "I'll make you so sorry for this!"
"Maybe I'll sell you to a freak show…" Higuma said looking on with a greedy smile. "I bet they'll pay good money for you."
To this Lucy found a stick and picked it up and charged at the man with a yell.
"You stubborn little…" He said stomping on Lucy as he said, "Brat!"
"I was just drinking and talking to my men. I didn't say anything to offend you." Higuma said lifting one of his hands.
Lucy just defiantly looked at him before yelling, "Yes you did! You'd better apologize! Move your foot you stinking mountain ape!"
Suddenly Wood Slap and Makino showed up.
"Let the boy go!" The mayor said standing there in the middle of the street before bowing down. "Please! I don't know what Lucy did and I have no intention of fighting you people, but if it's money, you'll get it. Just don't hurt the girl."
Higuma just laughed at this. "Nice try, old man, but you know how the world works. But I'm afraid it's too late. No one can save this brat now. She's done the unpardonable, she attacked me and called me names. I have to save face and can't just let this little freak off now."
"Stop!" Luffy finally said with a shadow covering his eyes. "I wouldn't do anything if I were you Bear."
This turned everyone's attention to Luffy and caused the bandits to laugh.
"Oh and what are you going to do about it?" Higuma said laughing his ass off.
"Me? Nothing." Luffy said before pointing past Makino and Wood Slap. "I can't say anything about them though."
At this a man stepped up beside the two as everyone's attention was turned towards the man.
"Nobody came to greet us at the harbor, I was wondering what was going on." The man with red hair and a straw hat said. "And what do you know it's the mountain bandits again! Lucy, Luffy I thought your punches were as strong as a pistol."
"Not now, Cap'n!" Lucy said with a blush overtaking the girl's face.
Higuma looked on with contempt as he said, "You pirates are still here? Taking a break from your cleaning duties? I don't know what you want but you'd better back off before you get hurt. Come closer and me and my boys will have to kill you cowards."
This however, didn't stop Shanks from walking forward at all with a smile on his face.
Seeing this one of the bandits pulled his gun out and aimed at the red-haired man's head. "Didn't you hear him?! Come any closer and we'll kill you." The man said before starting to laugh along with every other bandit.
"You're putting your life on the line by pointing that at me." Shanks said not even looking at the man.
"Huh?! What're you spouting about?" The bandit asked not understanding what he meant.
Shanks looks at the man and points at the gun before saying, "I'm saying it's not safe to point guns."
After that was said Lucky Roux shot the bandit in the head while said fat man was simply eating a piece of meat.
The bandits all had different reactions to this event.
"Now you've gone and done it!" "What've you done?!" "That wasn't fair!"
"Fair they say?!" One of the Red-Haired Pirates said with a small laugh.
"Stop whining land-lubbers!" Benn Beckman said teasingly looking at the whining bandits. "You're not dealing with saints here."
Shanks nodded and said, "We're pirates! And we don't play by the rules!"
"This was none of your business!" One of the bandits yelled at them.
"Now listen up, you can pour drinks on me, you can throw food at me, you can even spit on me. I'll just laugh that stuff off. But good reason or not, nobody hurts a friend of mine!" Shanks said looking at the bandits with a terrifyingly angry face.
This caused Lucy to stop struggling as she was god smacked at what he had just said. "Friend?"
However Higuma just laughed at this. "Nice speech, very intimidating! You pirates spend your time floating around in your little ships and you think you can stand up to mountain bandits? Don't make me laugh! Kill these fools!"
The bandits all drew their blades and charged at the pirates like a bunch of monkeys.
"I'll take it from here Cap'n." Benn said drawing his rifle without even changing his expression.
Taking the cigarette he was smoking Benn put it out on the eye of the first bandit that came at him and letting the bandit fall to the ground holding the burned eye. "Next…" He said as he flipped the gun around to use the buttstock as a blunt weapon. He then began tearing apart the bandits without even getting a scratch on him until the poor guys were all on the ground knocked the fuck out.
Benn then flipped the gun back around and pointing it at Higuma while lighting a new cigarette while saying, "You were saying something about mountain bandits and pirates? If you wanna fight us you better bring a battleship."
All the people watching were in complete awe at how powerful Benn was.
"But the brat started it!" Higuma said with terror etched on his face.
Shanks just looks at the man and says, "Doesn't matter, there's a price on your head isn't there?"
Higuma looked on terrified before he grunted and threw a smoke bomb on the ground creating a smokescreen that hid him from their view. "C'mere brat!" He was heard from inside the smokescreen. With this, there was also Lucy's voice. "Hey! Let go of me!"
Soon the cloud dispersed and Lucy and Higuma were gone.
"Oh no! I let him escape! We've gotta save Lucy!" Shanks said freaking out.
Lucky Roux however was there to say, "Calm Down, Captain! We'll all go out and look for her! We'll find 'em!"
"Cap'n…" Benn said looking at the red-haired man.
[With Lucy]
Lucy and Higuma were on a boat floating while Higuma was laughing about this. "What a brilliant escape! And nobody would ever expect a mountain bandit to hide out at sea!"
"Fucken Jerk!" Lucy said looking at the bandit.
"Brat…" Higuma said with a vain on his head. He then kicked the young girl off the boat and towards the ocean.
"This piece of scum! And I didn't even get a punch in! Darn it!" She screamed while falling to the ocean.
At the point she hit the water a massive creature rose out of the water behind Higuma. This creature was a Sea King, a massive sea monster that was known to be one of the most dangerous things on the sea.
Seeing the monster behind him Higuma was absolutely terrified but before he could even let out a sound the beast crushed and ate him and the boat.
After eating that the sea king turned its attention towards Lucy but before it could do as it wanted and eat the girl Shanks appeared grabbing her out of the beast jaws.
"Get out of here!" Shanks said releasing a terrifying aura towards the beast causing it to run away in fear. "Lucy I'm sorry. Makino and Luffy told me what happened. You stood up for me."
Lucy was crying while looking at him and he said, "Hey, stop crying! You're a tough one, remember?"
"B-but…" Lucy started, "Shanks! What about your arm!?"
Shanks had lost his left arm pulling her out of the maw of the sea king.
"It's a small price to pay, it's just an arm." Shanks had said with a smile. "I'm just glad you're okay."
Lucy began crying even harder at his words not even caring that he had lost an arm to help her. It was at this point that Lucy had realized why Shanks wouldn't take her and Luffy out to sea, it was just too dangerous for the twins to go out to sea now. The two were simply not strong enough to leave their home.
But above all else, Lucy realized just how great a man Shanks was. She vowed to be just as great as him.
[Several Days Later]
"So you won't be coming back to Foosha after this voyage will you Shanks?" Luffy asked with a sad smile on his face which was matched by his sister.
"Yup, that's right." Shanks said looking over his crew stocking their ship. "We've been using this place as a base for a little too long for our tastes. Are you two sad?"
"Yeah we're sad, but we won't ask you to take us with you!" Lucy said looking at him. "We've decided to become a pirate on our own! We'll train and go out to sea when we're ready!"
Shanks started laughing at this and told them, "There's no way you two can become pirates!"
Luffy just smiled and didn't react but Lucy had a massive reaction to this sentence. "Oh yes, we will! One day we'll have a ship and crew better than yours! And we'll be the best in the world! I'll be the 'King of the Pirates'!" She yelled at the top of her lungs.
"You're gonna be better than us, huh? Well then, do me a favor," Shanks said before placing his straw hat on Lucy's head. "Keep this hat safe for me? This hat means a lot to me."
Lucy began crying at this point but didn't say anything as Shanks continued. "Promise that you'll give it back to me when you become a great pirate."
"Those kids are gonna make something of themselves." Benn said to Shanks as they walked towards their ship.
Shanks responded with a "Yeah, especially Lucy, she acts just like I did when I was a kid."
With that the Red-Haired Pirates boarded their ship, weighed the anchor, raised the sails, and started sailing away. Leaving a crying Lucy who was being comforted by her brother and Makino.
[Several Days Later Once More]
Luffy and Lucy were sitting in Party Bar with Makino talking to each other when a tall man came through the door with a shadow covering his eyes looking around he found what he was looking for.
"There you two brats are, I've been looking all over for you two!" The man yelled getting the attention of the three with Luffy and Lucy bolting over to him with smiles on their faces.
"Gramps!" The two roared tackling the large man who was now revealed to be Monkey D. Garp.
"It's good to see you two." Garp said hugging the two with a smile on his face before said smile began to turn sinister. "So, I heard you two became friends with that red-haired bastard."
At this the two froze before stiffly looking up towards his face and realizing they were screwed. Trying to get away Lucy shot her arm out grabbing the door behind the man and trying to pull herself through it to run. Keyword trying. As soon as Garp saw this he was even angrier and unhappy that she had a Devil Fruit as bad as the Gum-Gum Fruit. He had lived long enough to know most Devil Fruits and their abilities to recognize the power she had just tried to use. So seeing her do this he grabbed her arm before it could make it to the door.
"Where the hell did you get a Devil Fruit, brat?!" Garp asked looking at the girl who looked terrified.
Makino jumped in here with her normal smile and said, "Oh that, Shanks and his crew brought two fruits in and both Luffy and Lucy ended up eating them. Though Luffy has yet to show any powers like Lucy."
Garp looked at Makino then to Lucy and finally to Luffy before roughly rubbed his face and said, "I swear I'll kill that red hair brat for this. Luffy do you know the name of your fruit yet?"
"Yeah but I'm not telling, not till I get down my abilities." Luffy said not scared in the slightest but causing Lucy and Makino to look at him in surprise while Garp just nodded accepting the boy's answer.
"Well looks like I need to up your training you brats, so you're following me and becoming Marines." Garp said standing up but was stopped when Lucy yelled out.
"No! I'm not gonna become a Marine, I promised Shanks I'd become the 'King of the Pirates'!" She said but was rebuffed with a 'Fist of Love' to the top of her head which to the surprise of Makino and herself actually hurt her but Luffy didn't even react to it.
"Oh, no, you won't! No grandchild of mine is going to become a pirate, let alone the 'King of the Pirates'!" Garp said with obvious displeasure on his face.
Luffy just looked at the man and said something that surprised the people in the room. "That's not your decision to make gramps. You can't just force Lucy to let go of her dream."
"What was that brat?!" Garp said looking at Luffy with a very surprised expression.
"It's her dream to become the 'King of the Pirates' and you have no right telling her that she can't do it." Luffy reiterated looking Garp right in the eyes.
"Oh then what about you Luffy, do you have a dream?" Garp said feeling proud that Luffy had stood up for his sister.
"I…" Luffy started but couldn't think of anything. "No, I haven't found a dream yet."
Garp looked at this and smiled patting Luffy on the head and said, "Well don't worry about it Luffy you'll find something to dream about."
Luffy smiled at this but soon he came to a decision and asked, "Gramps, I want to become stronger! No matter what it is you do I'll overcome it to get stronger! So let me come with you!"
This proclamation surprised Garp, Makino, and Lucy who looked at him like he was crazy.
"You would really do that just to get stronger, eh? Alright, then brat but you better be prepared for hell!" Garp said laughing before looking towards Lucy and asking, "Are you going to join your brother?"
"No way! I won't go with you and the Marines! The Pirate King can't train with the Marines!" Lucy said throwing her arms in the air with a smile on her face. For Garp, however, saw the silhouette of Gol D. Roger which only caused Garp to smile further.
"Well alright then, that just means you'll be training here on Dawn Island. I'll be coming around every 6 months to train you as well. Though it will be even more hellish than what your brother will go through." Garp said looking at the girl.
"What do you mean gramps, I'll be coming back with you and training with my sister as well." Luffy said with a laugh which Garp and Lucy joined as well.
Garp then grabbed Lucy and said, "Now c'mon, you are going to be living somewhere else so you can get stronger."
Soon the three left and walked deep into the forest and onto a mountain where they found a little shack. Garp walked over to it and knocked before roaring, "Dadan! Get out here!"
Inside the shack they could hear the people freaking out and yelling at each other in words that the three couldn't tell what they were. The door then opened and four people came out.
"Garp-san! You seriously got to give me a break already! That damn Ace is 10 already! We can't handle the kid any longer!" The leader of the group, Curley Dadan, came out yelling at Garp. "You've got to take him off our hands!"
It was at this point that she noticed Luffy and Lucy causing her to scream. "What the heck are you doing bringing those kids here?!"
"I'm leaving the girl with you of course!" Garp said as though it was the most natural thing in the world. "This is my granddaughter Lucy; she'll be living with you all just like Ace."
"You're dumping another one of us?! And she's your granddaughter?!" Curly screamed to the high heavens while looking at Garp.
"Well yeah, that's the deal we made, isn't it? Or would you rather I throw you all into the slammer for the rest of your lives? You know damn well how many crimes I've turned a blind eye to your group!" Garp said looking at her with a face that said, 'are you serious?'
"I…we…but Ace has been giving us so much trouble, I tell you, sometimes I wonder whether prison would be easier! And now you want us to take in your granddaughter on top of that?!" Curly said with desperation in her voice.
Garp just snorted at her and said, "I highly doubt Ace has caused you that many problems!"
While Garp was saying that Luffy and Lucy were looking around and Luffy suddenly leaned his head backward dodging a wad of spit that was going to hit his cheek.
Lucy looked over to see who it was that spit towards her brother and said, "Oi! Who the heck are you?!" Getting the attention of the adults.
"Ah, Ace!" Garp said with a smile on his face.
"Ace! You're back, are you?" Dadan said looking worried along with her bandits.
Sitting on a large bear that he had beaten, if the blood on his metal pipe was to be believed, looking at Luffy and Lucy in contempt. This person was Portgas D. Ace, adopted grandson of Garp.
Garp then punched Lucy in the head and said, "That kid is Ace, he's 2 years older than you. You're going to be living with these people from now on, so you'd better try and get along!"
"And that's a fact is it?!" Curly said but the look Garp shot them caused her and her group to start nodding saying, "We'll be happy to have her!"
"Good! C'mon Luffy I need to get back before Sengoku throws a fit that I left without permission!" Garp said grabbing Luffy by the head and walking away.
"See ya, Lucy! We'll be back in a few months!" Luffy said looking at his sister and waving.
And with that Luffy's training began in which Garp subjected him to hellish conditions to get stronger and stronger.
[10 Years Later]
Standing on Garp's Marine Battleship Luffy watched as the sea blew past them as they headed towards Dawn Island so he and his sister could start on their journey to complete their own dreams. Luffy was currently thinking of his training and all the people he met in the 10 years.
Luffy had done and learned quite a lot about the world and the systems of power. Meeting some of the Seven Warlords of the Sea including Dracule Mihawk, Jinbe, and Bartholomew Kuma all of which took a liking to him due to his unnatural charisma though Donquixote Doflamingo hated him for the 'D.' in his name for some reason, while Crocodile didn't really care along with Gecko Moria. Funny enough he had actually never met Boa Hancock. He had also met many members of the Marines such as Fleet Admiral Sengoku, the three Admirals: Aokiji, Akainu, and Kizaru, many of the Vice Admirals, Rear Admirals, Commodores, and Captains. Aokiji and Kizaru had even taken a liking to him just like many of the other Marines though Akainu hated him since he had admitted that he didn't think he would become a Marine.
Luffy had become incredibly strong and even spared with Vice Admirals and won at a rate of 4 out of 5 once he had learned Haki. Though he didn't learn Haki from Garp, or even a Marine, he had learned it from a man he met on a dangerous island Garp had left him on to train by himself for a few months.
The man and Luffy had a conversation when they met that ended up giving Luffy his dream.
[Flashback no Jutsu]
Standing on this island, his gramps had left him on a few days ago a 15-year-old Luffy had already met several 'things' on the island that were strangely dangerous and much stronger than him in physical power but not will power. This was proven when he accidentally used Conquerors Haki when in danger knocking out the beast that was attacking him. Unknown to him he had awoken a man on the island that had been sleeping for a very long time.
That same night Luffy had returned to his campsite and started cooking one of the smaller of the beasts he had beaten that day. While cooking he suddenly felt the presence of something very close to his campsite which was strange as he had specifically chosen this place because even the smallest creatures on this island couldn't make it here.
Looking over what Luffy saw was unprecedented to him as from what Garp had told him there were no other humans on this island. But here before him was a man with white hair, blue eyes, and wearing a white toga.
"Hello child of the clan, who might you be?" The man asked with a calm smile on his face.
"I'm Monkey D. Luffy, who are you and what are you doing here." Luffy answered getting a pleased look from the man.
"I am Astraios and I must thank you Luffy for waking me from my slumber!" The now named Astraios said surprising Luffy further.
Luffy then asked him, "What do you mean? How did I wake you up?"
"You don't know? Well that's a little worrying since you have purer blood than any 'D.' member I've felt over the years. You possess Conquerors Haki and such pure blood which woke me. Now do tell me how did the war end. Who won?" Astraios asked looking at the teen with great expectation.
"War?" Luffy asked in confusion. "What war are you talking about?"
"I mean the war between the United Kingdoms against the Great Kingdom." The man asked but Luffy simply looked at him like he didn't understand so he continued. "You know the kingdom that created and held the weapons Poseidon, Pluton, and Uranus. The same kingdom that controls the world. Hell, the kingdom is ruled by the 'D.' Clan. How do you not know about this?"
"Well, they don't control the world anymore then. Since the ones who control the world are the World Government and the World Nobles and they've ruled the world for the last 800 years." Luffy said looking at the weird man. "And I don't know any weapons with those names either."
This caused the man to become silent before he looked at Luffy and asked, "How many noble families are there in this World Government?"
"Um…I think there are twenty families but there could be more or less since I don't know much about it." He answered rubbing his chin while finishing cooking his food.
"I see, so they lost. I suppose that's fine since the 'D.' Clan still exists." Astraios said with a sad yet happy smile.
This caused Luffy to verbally ask, "What do you mean?"
"Well I can't tell you everything as I'm not a 'D.' and have been ordered not to tell any of the descendants of the Clan but as a 'D.' you are a very special person." Astraios stated with a smile. "As a member of the 'D.' Clan, you possess the blood of the nobles of the Great Kingdom. Something not many people knew about however was that each noble family of the kingdom possessed the heritage of devils. When I said you have purer blood than any other I meant it, you have inherited some aspects of your devil heritage. Not only that but you've eaten a very special Devil Fruit that kills anyone that doesn't have devil's blood. Now I don't know about what happened during the 860 years of my slumber but the fact you don't even know about it tells me that this history has been erased by the United Kingdoms who I assume are the people that made the World Government."
This had caught Luffy and created a deep form of fascination towards what could have happened during this time. Unbeknownst to Luffy, he would soon find his dream due to this fascination.
"Anyway, what do you know of the Devil Fruit you've eaten?" Astraios asked him gaining his attention once more.
"I only know its name actually; I've never been able to use its ability. It's called the Embodi-Embodi Fruit and I have no clue how it works." Luffy admitted since even after all the years of training he still hadn't figured out how to use his fruit.
"That makes sense, the Fruit of Embodiment is a very strange fruit. As I'm sure you've noticed that after eating it your demeanor changed, that is something eating the fruit dose. To use this fruit's powers you need to completely awaken the devil's bloodline. Which luckily for you I can do that for you." The man said looking at Luffy with a wide smile. "But before that how about I teach you something that just about everyone who wants to be strong needs to learn. Haki, a power that allows you to do superhuman feats. Funny enough most would have to work incredibly hard to awaken Haki but your Devil Fruit has the side-effect of awakening a weak form of all three Haki's. They are Armament, Observation, and Conquerors. The first two can be used by anyone but Conquerors can only be used by a select few, only 1 in several million will have the ability to awaken it."
This excited Luffy as he was constantly craving power like this, not for himself but for the people he cares about.
"But you do need to understand that to strengthen your Haki you need to put yourself in life-threatening danger!" He told Luffy but instead of what he expected this only caused Luffy's smile to widen.
Luffy then spoke up, the smile never leaving his face. "I don't care if I have to put myself in danger, to get stronger I'll even face gods and demons! To gain the power to protect the people I care about I'll do anything!"
Astraios smiled with an incredibly sadistic smile and told him, "Then we'll start very soon. Eat first then put your life on the line!"
Hearing this Luffy nodded and began eating the meat. This was the beginning of Luffy's most dangerous training to date as Astraios didn't pull punches and genuinely was trying to kill at every moment to force his Haki to get stronger. This continued for 7 months before Luffy's personal Den-Den Mushi went off and Garp told him he'd be there in a few hours.
"So once I'm gone what are you going to do once I leave?" Luffy asked wiping sweat from his head and looking at Astraios.
"Well, since you're going to be leaving I think it's time to awaken your devil's blood so you can use your fruit." Astraios said with a slightly sad smile on his face. "Now then I'll tell you the reason this fruit is so picky to use. Only devils have something called mana which is necessary for the fruits ability to create anything you can imagine even things that go against the laws of physics and nature."
Luffy was completely god smacked by this revelation as he couldn't possibly comprehend such a powerful ability. Seeing that he was unable to say anything Astraios continued.
"Before we do this I want you to promise me that you'll make a pill or medicine that will purify your blood and body so you can begin the true resurrection of the 'D.' Clan. Promise me! This is my dream for the betterment of the world!" He said with a few tears coming out of his eyes.
"I promise!" Luffy said realizing that this was important to the man. "I'll do as you ask so tell me what you're going to do to help me."
Astraios smiled as his body began to glow. "I'm sorry for keeping this from you Luffy, but to awaken your bloodline…I must die."
Luffy didn't have a chance to react before Astraios' body turned into a beam of light that consumed Luffy and soon said light dimed till it vanished revealing Luffy alone with horns coming out of his head before they slipped back into his head.
The first thing Luffy did was let tears fall from his eyes as he understood the reason behind the man accepting his own death. Astraios had given his life to give himself hope that his dream, something he couldn't do on his own, could be realized.
"I promise you Astraios, I will resurrect the 'D.' Clan in the current age." Luffy promised looking at the burnt ground the man had left.
Drying his tears Luffy displayed a very uncharacteristic face of determination as he lifted his hand and used his fruit to do as he said. He created a small blue pill that would purify his Bloodline and Body to the highest degree possible. Popping the pill into his mouth and swallowing it. This had the effect of a great amount of pain shooting through Luffy's body causing him to pass out.
A few hours later Luffy awoke with a new appearance, kinda. He looked basically the same but with large horns coming from his head, a pair of wings coming from his back, and a tail with an arrow-like tip coming from his lower back just above his ass. His physique had also changed slightly with his body becoming lean yet muscular kinda like a swimmer would look and his face becoming sharper and handsome.
Leaning up Luffy felt really weird from having new appendages on his back but after just wanting them to be gone he felt them shrink to the point of non-existence. Shaking his head he looked around the campsite trying to think of what would be worth taking and noticed a small book laying near the rock Astraios always sat.
"So he left something for me, eh." Luffy said to himself looking at the book he picked up.
Opening it, the first thing he saw was a sentence to himself.
'Luffy if you're reading this it means that I've died to awaken your bloodline already. I probably said this before doing it but once more I'm sorry that I didn't tell you about it. I realized early on you wouldn't have been okay with me dying for you so I couldn't tell you. Now this book is a collection of things I have seen and heard of in my adventures throughout several worlds thanks to my Devil Fruit, the Gate-Gate Fruit which allows the user to travel through the infinite worlds that exist beyond anything a child of man can comprehend, it even has a glossary of characteristics of different devils so you can figure out what your bloodline is from. I've seen so many crazy things that I've recorded in this book for you but I think you should use your fruit to give yourself eidetic memory so you can remember the entire book after a single look and then burn the book for me. No one is to learn of my fruit or the worlds that can be accessed with it. Do this for me no matter what you decide to do.' That was what was written on the first page.
Luffy looked at this book in complete surprise but ended up smiling in excitement and creating a pill designed to increase mental capabilities and giving eidetic memory and downing it immediately feeling a pain in his head that quickly vanished and he then looked over every page in the book committing them all to memory. Once done Luffy threw the book into the fire with a smile.
"Thank you for helping me and leaving your dreams to me. And don't worry I'll make sure your dream and mine are completed. I will find the lost history and I will spread it throughout the world!" Luffy said while watching the book burn to ashes. A massive smile coming to his face as he felt a ship of auras pulling up beside the island and hearing the 'voices' of every creature on the island being very unhappy about them being here. "Well, time to go, see ya, Astraios."
And with that Luffy left the island a changed man, literally.
[Kai]
Notably Garp had been beyond surprised that Luffy had learned Haki but was also happy and excited that he could kick up Luffy's training to something even more dangerous.
Soon Luffy felt Garp walking over to him with his Observation and smiled looking towards the man.
"So it's almost time. Now Luffy, normally I wouldn't ask a question I know the answer to but Sengoku and the rest wanted me to, will you join the Marines and not become a pirate?" Garp asked knowing that Luffy wasn't going to do such a thing as it would mean he wouldn't be able to complete his dream.
"Sorry gramps but after seeing how the Marines work I can't join them. Especially when it's the World Government's bitch. I just can't work under those bastards no matter how far down the latter I am." Luffy said looking towards the older man losing his smile. "And that's not even mentioning how much I despise people like Akainu and their 'Sense of Justice'. I've seen Akainu kill another Marine simply because the man didn't want to kill an innocent person that was caught alongside a pirate. People like Akainu disgust me and, between you and me gramps, I fear what will happen if he becomes the Fleet Admiral."
Garp nodded at this, he considered himself friends with several 'criminals' so he could understand what Luffy was talking about. Hell on the inside he was absolutely livid about Akainu killing a fellow Marine out of his own 'Sense of Justice'. "Well can't say that's the reason I was gonna get from you but I already knew you'd say no. You know, you still haven't told me your dream."
"I can't tell you that gramps, not when you're on the Marines side." Luffy said laughing slightly at the deadpan face Garp made, but before he could say anything a Marine ran up and saluted before saying something that caused Luffy to smile.
"Vice Admiral Garp, sir, we're soon to make landfall on Dawn Island!" The soldier said.
Garp nodded and said, "Good! You hear that Luffy your gonna get to see your sister after a full year. Are you excited?" He waited for an answer but nothing came for a few seconds leading him to look over only to find that Luffy was gone. "EH! Where'd he go?"
"Um, sir, he left using Geppo as soon as he heard the island was so close." The soldier said scratching his cheek.
Garp simply sighed and nodded at this, he knew how excited Luffy was to see Lucy after the year he spent in the Calm Belt. "Change course we don't need to be here anymore and Sengoku will give me an ear full if I don't return soon!" He roared to his entire ship.
"Aye Sir!" The soldiers yelled out at his command.
"Good luck you brats." Garp said looking at Dawn Island.
[With Luffy]
Jumping in the air with Geppo Luffy followed his Observation to find his sister who was seemingly in the forest sleeping from what he could 'see'. At this Luffy decided to go to town instead thus meaning he was heading to Party Bar.
Entering the bar after landing on the island out of everyone's view Luffy saw the bar was full of patrons and everyone was having fun even though it was like 9 in the morning. When he entered the bar several people noticed him and immediately calling out to him getting the attention of the entire bar who all started greeting him.
Soon Luffy was sitting at the bar drinking water having developed a slight distaste for alcohol after his first time trying it and hating the morning afterward.
"So Luffy I take it you're here to start your journey with Lucy, right?" Makino said giving the boy a side-eye thanks to being unable to look directly at him without blushing like the rest of the female population due to awakening his devils blood.
"Yup, once she wakes up and gets here we'll be leaving. Though that is what this party is about isn't it? You all started partying yesterday to celebrate her finally hitting the age we agreed to leave. Ain't that right?" Luffy said smiling and looking at the number of people that had finally passed out.
Makino giggled at this and smiled, saying, "Yup though Lucy left early on to sleep so she would be prepared to leave today. Though to be honest she wasn't expecting you to get here before she left."
"Of course she didn't, I bet she was going to try and use a little dingy to start her adventure too, wasn't she?" Luffy said with an incredulous look on his face.
"She was, actually. She said it was all she needed before finding an actual ship." Makino said with a fond smile.
"I guess I'll have to change that then." Luffy said finishing his water and standing up and walking towards the door. He stopped after catching something, or rather someone, coming from the forest with his Observation.
He stopped and smiled as his sister slammed through the door right into him where he wrapped his arms around her.
"Ah…Okay who's holding me." Lucy said before looking up and seeing a face she had been missing for the last year. "LUFFY!" She screamed waking just about the entire town but especially the people in the bar.
"Hey Lucy, how have you been over this last year?" Luffy said getting a good look at his sister.
Lucy wore the straw hat that Shanks gave her, a sleeveless red cardigan vest that left her midriff exposed and was straining to hold her rather impressive bust, and a pair of blue jean shorts, along with normal sandals. Her black hair reached her mid-back. Overall she was incredibly beautiful.
While he was looking over her, she was doing the same to Luffy. He was wearing a black shirt that hugged his chest allowing one to see his muscular chest through said shirt, blue jeans with a red sash on his hips, and a pair of black combat boots. His black hair was short and spiky and gave him a roguish charm. His general looks even caused Lucy, a rather simple-minded person that had never even thought of things like romance, to blush and have some rather strange, to her, thoughts.
"So Lucy, are you ready to start your journey to 'King of the Pirates'?" Luffy asked not bothering with her blush as he had gotten used to it by this point since just about every woman he's met had the same reaction.
"What, oh, yeah I just need to get some supplies, and then we can leave!" She said in excitement after getting over the weird new feeling. 'What the hell was that? My heartfelt like it was going to burst. Am I okay? No, no it was nothing I have a journey to start.' She thought shaking her head.
"Well then I want to see the boat before we go and get the supplies, alright?" Luffy said looking her dead in the eyes.
"Yeah." She said cocking her head to the side wondering why he needed to see the boat first. "C'mon let's go so we can start as soon as possible."
With that she led him to the docks and showed him the tiny dingy that she planned on using that would barely hold her and her supplies.
"Lucy you realize this is too small right? Well, this gives me a chance; you've been asking me to show you my Devil Fruit ability right?" Luffy said getting a nod from his sister before her eyes turned to stars from her own excitement.
"You mean you'll show me it now? Gramps said you hadn't even shown him your ability yet last time he came to visit without you!" She said bouncing in joy.
"Yup, I've been keeping this power secret because it's just so powerful." Luffy said with a smile. "Now watch closely this is gonna be cool."
With that Luffy lifted his hands towards an open space in the dock and spoke, "Arc of Embodiment: Miniature Ark." As soon as those words left his mouth a boat began materializing over the open space before dropping into the water floating there.
This boat was relatively small at 12 meters long and 16 meters tall, from the bottom of the boat to the top of the mast, with a single mast in the middle of the deck. Predominately the boat wasn't colored but it did have a strip of metal going around it top of its hull. It had a captain's cabin on the back 4 meters of the deck with a steering wheel on top that connected to the rudder on the back of the ship. And finally, the bow of the ship was a simple wooden beam.
Lucy looked on in complete wonderment as the ship appeared out of nowhere before looking at her brother who was admiring his work. "Wait, you just made a boat out of nothing! How did you do that?!"
"That would be my Devil Fruit ability, Lucy, I can create anything I can imagine. My Devil Fruit's name is the Embodi-Embodi Fruit and allows me to use the Arc of Embodiment." Luffy said looking on with a smile. "So long as I can imagine something I can make it. Now, can you tell why I kept it from you?"
"Oh yeah, anyone would kill to get that power. You can basically do anything." Lucy said with stars in her eyes once more. "But that means you could make an infinite amount of food! We don't even need to gather supplies anymore!"
"True, and just so you know I made this thing with a full stock of everything we may need." Luffy said pointing his thumb at the Miniature Ark. "But we can't leave until we've got people to say bye to right?"
"Yup!" She answered looking back at the town. "We need everyone here to see us off of course!"
And with that, the two went back to the bar where they announced that that they would soon be leaving getting the attention of every person in the bar, all of whom got up and started going around the village telling everyone who all started making their way to the dock to see the two off.
Soon the entire town was gathered at the dock, most were surprised to see the boat the two were gonna use but were fed a lie that Luffy had brought it with him when he came back.
"Well it's time to go now that everyone's here it's time to go." Lucy said to the villagers from the ship as Luffy manned the helm and got ready to set sail. "I'll see you guys later; I love you guys!" Lucy called out as the boat began moving.
"Well, their finally setting sail, eh mayor?" Makino said to Wood Slap who was standing next to her with his arms crossed. "I'm going to miss those two rascals."
"They're just going to bring shame to our village." Wood Slap said looking at the departing duo. Though if one looked close enough he actually had a small smile.
Another villager in the background then laughed and said, "I would never have guessed that they'd actually do it!"
On the boat with the siblings Lucy was over the moon looking around at the sea around her. "It's such a good day to set out!" She said with a massive grin splitting her face.
At this point the Lord of the Coast, the sea king that ate Higuma, rose out of the water in front of her.
"Well, I remember you, you tried to eat me and took Shanks' arm. I've heard you've been attacking some of the merchant ships that land here from time to time, so I don't have to feel sorry about this attack." Lucy said getting in a stance to throw a punch. "Gum-Gum Pistol!" She roared punching the beast in the face sending the thing flying backward knocking the thing out instantly.
Lucy's arm then pulled back to her and she smiled like an idiot. "That's what you get you damn fish! Now, Luffy, what's the closest island we can set a course to?"
"A little place called Goat Island. From what I've heard a pirate named 'Iron Mace' Alvida uses that place as a base. She's got a 5 Million Beri bounty that I was thinking we'd collect since we're gonna need money at some point." Luffy said pulling out a small book he got from the Marines that had the Bounties of every pirate in the world at the moment. Though only Vice Admirals and above were allowed to have the book. He then found the page with Alvida's bounty on it and showed it to Lucy.
"Alrighty, then let's make this a good debut. Look out world, here I come! I'm gonna be the 'King of the Pirates'!" Lucy screamed to the heavens with her arms held out.
Luffy simply laughed at this and said, "And I'll make sure you get there."
The two then started laughing unaware of just how much of an effect they would have on the world going forward.
