Adam Jensen stared in disbelief at the abandoned rail yard that now served the headquarters of Chimera Squad. Worn brickwork and exposed steel girders jutting out from the walls of the building that he could probably collapse without too much effort. Evidently Reclamation hadn't blessed them with a budget, a far cry from his days in Task Force 29. At least the apartment he had been provided was comfortable.

It would have to do, he figured, if only temporarily. Chimera hadn't exactly been given much time to set up before the mayor's assassination after all. Moving or even performing any major refurbishment would probably hinder the investigation more than anything. He could only hope that he was able to help.

Not wasting any more time he marched up to the garage door and knocked. Only having to wait a moment before the motors for the heavy door whirred and it began its ascent. Opening up to reveal one of the many members of Chimera. One of the two hybrids was there to greet him, call sign Cherub if he remembered the profiles correctly.

Cherub stuck a hand out. "Welcome, you must be the new guy! It's great that you're here!"

Adam couldn't help but smile slightly at the enthusiasm, accepting the offered hand for the customary shake. "Glad to be part of the team."

Cherub's grip loosened as he turned around and called, "Hey Whisper, the new guy's here!"

"Is he now?" A voice called back.

"The sunglasses don't lie!"

The same voice spoke again, this time from an intercom. "Chimera, assemble by the APC, we have a new member."

Cherub turned back to him. "Come along, I'm sure the rest are dying to meet you."

Adam followed him to the assembly spot, which wasn't anymore than twenty paces from the main door. He could see all the other members making their way over as well. He noted them all as they came, Verge the sectoid, Axiom the muton, Zephyr the other hybrid, Torque the viper, Patchwork the only other augmented human besides him, and of course the various other humans who were part of Chimera Squad. It was remarkable progress in the years since the liberation given XCOM's initial stance as an anti-alien organization.

"Sunglasses indoors, really?" Torque sarcastically quipped.

"My vision is augmented." Adam deadpanned.

"So it is." She said, sinking into silence as the final member approached the group.

It was easy to recognize that it was Whisper, the chief tactical officer, he was the only one besides Adam not geared up for battle. The man hopped up onto the platform the APC rested on and turned to address the throng. Quickly beckoning for Adam to come up and join him on the platform.

Whisper began his speech as Adam climbed up next to him. "Chimera, I'm happy to introduce you to our newest member, Adam Jensen, call sign Detective. For those who didn't read his profile, he was the commander of a SWAT team that was mostly autonomous from ADVENT. Head of Security of Sarif industries, member of Task Force 29, and the one who almost single handedly annihilated a variety of mercenary and black ops groups. The most prominent of which were Majestic Twelve and the Illuminati back in 2035 while the war for liberation was well underway. Be sure to give him a warm welcome, dismissed."

"That was rather quick." Adam commented as he watched most of the squad meander back to whatever they were doing before the interruption. Verge, Patchwork, and Cherub staying behind in the evident hopes of talking to him.

"I'm sure you'll get to know everyone on your own time." Whisper said. "No reason to keep them from their duties. Take a look around and make yourself at home, meet me up by the map when you're done."

Adam nodded as Whisper went back to his post and hopped down to join the group that had stayed behind to talk. Verge was the first to speak.

"Impressive that you took on the Illuminati yourself, even ADVENT in their omniscience wasn't sure if they truly existed."

Adam shrugged outwardly as he remembered all the people that had been lost in that fight. "I had help."

"Undoubtedly, but I read some of the files you were the key to everything. It is good to meet you."

"Likewise." He replied. "Any of you willing to show me around."

"I will." said Verge.

"Count me in!" Cherub volunteered.

"I suppose I can come along too." Patchwork said somewhat nervously.

Adam nodded and let the trio guide him around the base. Showing off the supply depot, the makeshift gym nearby doubled as the training area, a comparatively well equipped special operations area, and of course the armory. None of the agents milling about each area ever did more than shout a polite greeting in his direction when they saw him, for which he was somewhat relieved. Meeting people was an exhausting affair.

His guides were comparatively more talkative. With Verge and Cherub mostly making idle chatter among themselves when not pointing out the small quirks each area held. Meanwhile Patchwork fawned over him. Asking a rather annoying and personal slew of questions about his augments. Such as, how many he had, why he got them, why were they all so advanced? He only gave her the technical details. No reason to delve into the mess that his personal life had been for the past decade.

"So where do the lenses of your sunglasses go when they retract?" she asked as they finished the brief tour.

"My temples, where else?" He replied.

"How does it feel?"

"Not much like anything, I just know when they're off."

Patchwork nodded. "Well I certainly don't have anything as fancy as you. Just some prosthetics with a touchscreen embedded into the arm. I can control my GREMLIN with it."

"Useful." Adam surmised, looking up the stairs to what he supposed was whatever passed as the command center, where Whisper was leaning on the railing idly watching them from above.

"Well unless you're with me, I've got to go talk to the boss." Adam said as he made his way to the stairs.

"It is about time that we get to our duties." Verge spoke. "Be careful up there, he does bite."

"I heard that!" Whisper half-shouted

"Ha." Was Verge's reply.

Adam ignored the exchange as he went up to meet with Whisper. "I got the lay of the place, what do I do now?"

Whisper left his railing and turned to examine the map of City 31 before addressing Jensen. "Well, you go to the armory and pick out an empty locker, there should be one down there. Godmother will issue you a weapon if you ask, anything we have lying around is yours. As for your assignment for the day, you're on APC duty barring an emergency within the next five minutes. Just be ready to move and we're all set for the day."

Adam nodded, spinning on his heel and heading back down the staircase. It felt strange to be taking orders again, but that was the nature of the job. Hopefully this one ended less disastrously than his time in SWAT, and Sarif Industries, and TF29. It would be nice if things didn't collapse for once.
