The Former Agent

Disclaimer: I'm not pretending to own Control. It's fanfiction. Don't sue me.

Prologue

"Wait… I know you." Jesse said.

"You do?"

A few hours earlier

Jesse Faden, newly appointed Director of the Federal Bureau of Control, took her seat in the Director's Office. Only for a minute though. She wasn't the desk type. She left her office and wandered the Bureau's headquarters, The Oldest House. Only a few days ago, she'd been fighting the extradimensional enemy she'd dubbed as the Hiss. Dylan Faden, her brother was in a coma. She wasn't feeling particularly peachy, but she was content. Satisfied that she was inside this wonderfully bizarre and mysterious place. Being the Director was just the cherry on top, albeit a very, very good cherry to have.

She passed by her Head of Research, Emily Pope on her way, who'd greeted her morning as Jesse and not Director Faden, as Jesse had instructed her.

She walked up to her new Head of Security, Simon Arish.

"Morning, Simon. How's it going today?" Jesse asked.

"Oh, Director Jesse. It's going okay. No more breaches, or any signs of the Hiss. Bureau's clean." Arish replied.

"Simon, come on. Stop calling me that. Makes me feel weird." Jesse said, chuckling a bit.

"Yes ma'am. Jesse." Arish replied, smiling himself.

"Sir?" Jesse and Arish both turned to see a ranger run up to them, tired and distressed. "You need to see this, a new AWE."

"What?" Arish said, surprised.

"Let's go. Show me." Jesse said quickly, following the ranger to Emily's lab, where Emily was already working away on the consoles. "Talk to me Emily." She said.

Emily looked up only for a second. "I have no idea what's going on. These readings indicate a tear in reality, but beyond that I have no clue. Someone has to go on site."

"I'll go. Arish, you follow with some rangers, but don't get too close unless I say so." Jesse ordered, before flying out of the lab. She quickly got her Service Weapon ready, and walked out of the Oldest House, on her way to the AWE site.

As Jesse got to the site, she noticed there really wasn't much damage to the environment. It was a building, inside a small room as Emily had informed Jesse.

The stairs seemed stable, and everything, including the walls seemed normal. Jesse was confused as to why the readings had gone off the charts back at the Bureau. But she forged on. On the second floor, she could feel the environment, not exactly changing, but glitching. Kind of like a screen would, except in real life.

Just another Tuesday, Jesse thought.

She could now feel the presence of an Altered Item, and she followed it into a room. Inside, she could see the walls and everything glitching, and on a table, sat a lone computer LCD monitor.

"Arish, I've found an Altered Item. The area appears stable but there's slight glitching in the immediate vicinity of the item itself, be careful coming in." Jesse spoke into the Bureau comms.

"Roger that ma'am, um, Jesse. Coming in now." Arish spoke, fumbling again, making Jesse shake her head.

The agents had come in had already started to pick up the Altered Item in a storage unit, ready to be transported.

"Take it to the Panopticon. The Investigation Sector is in shambles right now." Jesse told the agents.

"Understood ma'am." They said, nodding as they carried it away.

"Arish, I want a group of rangers to join the repair work in the Investigation Sector. We need to get over the damage Hartman did as soon as we can." Jesse told Arish.

"I'll get on it. Let's hope we have something on this thing when we get back." Arish said.

"You and me both, Simon." Jesse said, patting his shoulder as they followed the remaining rangers down the stairs, getting into vehicles to get back to the Bureau.

"This is amazing!" Emily virtually yelled at the top of her voice.

"What is, Emily?" Jesse asked.

"This monitor is radiating Extradimensional energies. And what's even more interesting, not all of them are on the same resonant frequency as the Astral Plane." Emily excitedly explained. "What this means is, that there are other extradimensional locations than just the Astral Plane. We've barely scratched the surface with Dimensional Research, and we get this?" Emily laughed with excitement.

"Well, it could be dangerous. We don't know what it's capable of, so…" Jesse began.

"Yeah on that we can agree. I'll assign a full time rotating watch on it. It'll be in a secure Panopticon cell, even during my research." Emily said, clearly containing herself forcibly. "I'm not taking the risk of this being another Projector."

"Probably best for us. Alright let's get Langston to open a cell for it."

Langston, the Panopticon Supervisor obliged, pointing Jesse and the rest to Panopticon Level 4. Unit 742, the one beside the unit that previously held the Benicoff TV, was empty, so that's where it was assigned.

Jesse followed the rangers as they took the lift to Level 4, remembering all the fighting that took place here. Fighting Salvador in unit 741 was particularly grueling, made all the worse with the fact that she hadn't learned flying just yet. However, she was interrupted as the monitor suddenly started humming as it was a few steps away from the cell.

"What the-" one of the rangers reacted.

"Everybody get back! Now!" Jesse yelled at the other. The researchers and Emily quickly ran back behind the rangers. Jesse quickly picked it up with her Telekinesis and shoved it into a cell, barely caring about snapping it in half.

The humming, however, did not stop.

"Emily, think you know what's happening?" Jesse asked back at Emily.

"I don't know yet. And I can't exactly hold a spectrometer to it right now." Emily said.

"Fair Point." Jesse said, nodding to herself.

The humming suddenly stopped, followed by an intense, blinding light shooting out of the monitor. Everybody covered their eyes hurriedly, and when they opened them, they could see someone, standing in front of the monitor.

"Dang it!" a boy banged on the table. On the screen, in big red, was the word 'Defeat'.

The boy huffed out as he got up and went out of his room, to the next. He opened the fridge and took out a bottle of cold water and chugged down half of it. He went back to his room and went to sit at his computer to ready up another game, when suddenly, the monitor started glitching out. He sighed, then got up to check on the cables.

Nothing loose, he thought as he inspected the device.

Sighing again, he switched off the computer, thinking it was probably overheating. He had been playing video games for the last 6 hours after all.

The boy decided to get some food for himself. So, he went back to the fridge, looking for some pastries he'd saved up. Finding the box, he opened it and took one out to eat, putting the box back into the fridge and closing it.

Suddenly, he heard a strange screeching noise. It was coming from his room. He quickly ran into his room and saw the monitor slowly floating up into the air, glitching as the air around it shimmered. Suddenly, there was a flash of white light, and he lost consciousness.

So, here goes. It's the prologue to my little project, that begins with Control, however, it won't stay that way forever, but for now let's focus on whatever new adventures my character and the people of FBC have ahead of them, eh?

Let's see what else… Right! Make sure to review if you think this is interesting to you and if you have anything to say. Really anything to say is qualified.

See y'all next time. Peace!
