Author's Note: This is my first FanFic so I won't pretend that this will be the best thing you've ever read but I had this idea for some time and just thought i'd give it a try. I have only decided on one pairing for the time being and I am open to all suggestions regarding pairing. You will notice i sent Natsu forward in time to X776 instead of X777 this was only so he could meet Erza on her way to Fairy Tail since she joined in X776. Anyway I hope you enjoy
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail or any of its characters they all belong to Hiro Mashima.
Chapter 1
Year X316
The sound of the wind whistling through the leaves could be heard throughout the forest as a pink haired boy grabbed onto the rough bark of a tree to gain his balance after walking for so long. The tears on his cheeks had all but dried off.
He didn't know where he was and no one was around to answer him as he called out for someone to help, he was totally defenceless and had no food or water.
The boy slowly walked through the forest forcing his knees not to buckle under his own weight that seemed to be getting heavier and heavier by the second. He came across a small lake and almost smiled, almost. He ran as fast as he could towards the clear water and fell a couple times before reaching the bank of the small river.
He tumbled over onto his knees as he looked at his reflection in the water, dirt covered his face except for two lines from his eyes to the underside of his chin where the dirt was washed away by the tears he had cried earlier.
He cupped his hands and sunk them under the water and brought it to his mouth at an alarmingly fast pace, taking in all the water he possibly could.
After drinking his fair share, he still had no food and the sound of his own stomach was enough to scare away any animal that came near him, he had no weapon and was too weak to try and fight anything.
As the whistling of the leaves ceased and the Sun set over the horizon clouds started to cover the sky as rain poured over the boy causing his pink hair to hang down over his face.
The rain started coming down harder and faster. The boy ran as fast as he could to find anywhere that would shelter him from the storm until he came across a large cave and he smiled big.
He ran into the cave and went as deep as he could possibly go until he reached what seemed to be the end, he could barely see so he leaned up against the wall and panted.
The boy wore a couple of rags that seemed to be his only set of clothing, he couldn't remember much of what happened before being in those woods, he couldn't remember his parents or his family, he only knew that he was alone.
Then he felt the wall move suddenly behind him as the boy fell flat on his face.
"Oww," the boy rubbed his nose as he sat back up and almost started crying again until he realized he could see again.
He turned around to the wall that moved and noticed it wasn't made of rock like the rest of the cave but was scalier and smoother.
Then he heard a booming voice, "What are you doing here boy!"
The boy flinched suddenly at the loud voice and took a step back until he dragged his eyes upwards.
Before him was a huge lizard like creature, they were yellow and gold in colour and had two huge horns coming out from their forehead and curved back towards his long neck, the new found light that filled the cave came from scales of the huge lizard.
Instead of running or screaming the boy did the unexpected and smiled, a smile so bright that it put the lizard's scales to shame.
"Whoa, cool," the young boy surprised the lizard. "Big lizard," he laughed and hugged the large lizards' tail that he was leaning against previously. The tail was underneath the lizards chin as he was coiled in a circle.
The sudden contact with the boy caused the lizard to widen his eyes in shock, the boy was not scared of the apex predator that was in front of him, he wasn't scared that he could burn the boy up in an instant. Or maybe he didn't know.
"I am no lizard boy, I am the Sun dragon, Sol," The large dragon spoke to the boy.
The boy released the tip of Sol's tail and backed up to look in the dragon's eyes.
"A dragon, no way, that's awesome," he laughed and ran around in circles with his arms in the air.
From inside the coiled-up dragon another voice was heard, this one far more feminine and softer, "Honey, what's the matter?"
Another dragon reared its head from inside to look at the boy with wide eyes, she was beautiful, her scales were white like the Moon and she had no horns as to keep the beauty of her snout and eyes intact.
"A human?" The second dragon spoke.
The boy visibly lit up a second time at seeing the second dragon, "No way, another dragon, wow miss you're pretty."
At the compliment both dragons' shot their eyes open. Never in their entire lives had a human ever complimented their kind, they didn't hate humans, as the two oldest dragons alive they preferred to stay out of battles that the younger generation of dragons had sought out.
Then the female dragon gained her composure and gave a small smile, "what is your name little one?"
The boy puffed out his chest, "I'm Natsu, nice to meet ya."
Never in their lives had they conversed with a human in such a way, it was new to them.
"Where are your parents boy?" Sol spoke in a harsh tone.
When the boy shrunk and looked at the ground the female dragon struck Sol with the top of her head and looked at him through slits, "Sol, don't be so rude, he's just a boy." She opened her eyes back up and looked at the young boy, "it is nice to meet you Natsu, I am the Moon dragon, Luna."
When Luna introduces herself Natsu gained back his smile and looked up at her.
"Would you like to learn magic Natsu?" Luna asked him.
Natsu beamed and Sol looked at her, "Luna, you can't be serious."
Luna looked to Sol and gave him a scowl, "oh and why is that?"
"We just met this boy. You honestly want to teach him our magic?"
Luna's scowl turned sad, "Sol, you know we don't have that much time left, I want someone to remember us."
Sol gained the same sad look in his eyes and without even thinking Natsu placed his palm on their scaly tails and gave them a smile they would never forget.
"Don't worry, I'll remember you guys. You guys are way too cool to forget," Natsu gave a childish giggle.
Luna and Sol looked at the small boy and they both smiled, Sol not as wide as Luna.
Natsu took his hands away, "you don't have to teach me magic if you don't want to, but is it okay if I visit you guys again?"
Luna looked to Sol with knowing eyes and he sighed, "Well boy, my mate has convinced me, we will teach you our magic and we will raise you as our own."
Luna smiled at her mate and looked to Natsu, "now come rest Natsu, our training will not be easy."
Natsu beamed and climbed over Sol's large tail, falling down a couple times causing the Moon dragon to giggle a little as he made his way to the very middle of the two coiled dragons.
Natsu mumbled half asleep, "night. Mommy, Daddy."
Luna and Sol were taken aback, but Luna almost shed a tear at the small pink haired boy curled up with her and she looked at Sol who smiled as well. "Goodnight. Natsu Dragneel."
The years past by fast for Natsu and before long he had already learned everything there was to learn about Sun Dragon Slayer Magic, and his foster father was like a harsh drill instructor always nailing things into his skull on how to act right. Sol taught Natsu how to speak properly, how to read and write, and how to act around girls, even though he had never seen one before.
Natsu stood in an open field, the Moon hung over the night sky lighting up almost everything, the light glistened off his mother's white scales making her look even more beautiful than normal.
"Okay Natsu, now that you are done your training with your father, I get to take over," Luna spoke to her foster son.
Natsu jumped up, "Yayy, Dad was such a mean teacher."
Luna laughed, "Now Natsu, you know he loves you. He just wants you to be strong," Natsu shrunk and nodded, "plus, I'm going to be even harder on you."
Natsu started to run away as Luna grabbed him by the white vest he was wearing, it had orange trim and was open showing off his chest and stomach. His pants were baggy and cuffed just at the end of his calves, they were orange with white trim.
"Now Natsu, let me teach you about the Moon."
Natsu groaned and sat in front of his mother as she looked up at the Moon. "The Moon may not be as bright as the Sun, but it still shines down on us from above, lighting the darkness of the night. The Moon reflects the light from the Sun, that is why the Sun and the Moon work so well together."
Natsu listened carefully to his mother's words and tried not to doze off since it was so late at night.
"The Sun is very large and hot, but the Moon is smaller and colder, Moon Dragon Slayer Magic focuses on stealth and support while Sun Dragon Slayer Magic focuses on brute force and offense. They are opposites but make one whole."
Natsu smiled at his mother, "does that mean I'll be really strong?" Natsu flexed his small biceps
Luna laughed at her foster son, "yes Natsu, I have no doubt that you will one of the strongest mages in the world, but only if you train hard and follow your heart."
Natsu looked at her confused for a moment, "follow my heart?"
"Yes Natsu, your heart is the driving force behind your power, one day you will find human friends and you will fight alongside them, what makes someone strong is not the amount of power they hold, it is what they use that power for." Luna explained.
She then bent down and put her snout fairly close to Natsu's face, "and one day you will fall in love."
Natsu smiled, "but I already do love you and Dad."
Luna laughed at Natsu, "No sweetie, you will fall in love with a girl, a human, you will love her like I love your father, it is different than how you love me."
Natsu looked confused but nodded.
"Now Natsu we will spend every night sitting in this spot and soaking in the Moon's light." Luna said looking at the Moon.
Natsu lost his smile, "Mom, that's boring, I already did that with Dad."
Luna looked down and poked Natsu's forehead lightly with one of her talons, "you soaked in the Sun Natsu, now you must soak in the Moon, if you want to be strong you have to do everything in the right order."
Luna and Natsu sat in the open moonlight in the same spot every day for the next couple of weeks. Natsu could feel himself becoming one with the Moon the same way he had already done with the Sun.
Once every month Luna and Sol let Natsu have a day off to roam around the woods but not too far just far enough that they could still smell his whereabouts. It was one of those days, but It was getting dark and Natsu was nowhere to be found.
"Where is that trouble maker," Sol spoke to Luna inside their cave.
Luna sighed, "I'm sure he will be back soon Honey, don't worry."
Sol scoffed, "I'm not worried, I did train him after all."
Luna smiled at her mate, he had changed so drastically since taking in Natsu and she couldn't be happier.
"Come on, let's go look for him," Luna said as they both uncoiled themselves and left the cave.
It only took a couple of minutes for them to find the pink hair of Natsu.
"There he is, that brat," Sol started to fly down towards him when Luna stopped him.
"Honey wait. Look," Luna pointed down to the boy.
Natsu was sitting in the empty field with his eyes closed basking in the Moon's light as he took deep breaths through his mouth.
"It's his day off, why is he training?" Sol spoke.
Luna looked down at the boy and couldn't help smiling, "He wants to be strong."
Sol sighed and gave his mate a sad look, "I'm going to miss the brat, I hate to admit it."
Luna and Sol landed and started walking back towards their cave, "How much longer until the spear is done?" Luna mumbled quietly.
Sol gave her a sad look, "four years, it needs to sit in the shadow of a total solar eclipse."
Luna looked down, "four years, that's all the time we have left with him."
Sol rested his chin on top of Luna's head, "you know we will always be with him as long as he has the spear."
Luna looked at Sol and gave a small smile as they made their way back to the cave.
The years passed by quickly for Natsu and his foster parents. During the day Natsu would train his Sun Dragon Slayer Magic and during the night he would practice his Moon Dragon Slayer Magic. He would bicker with his parents, laugh and cry alongside them. But everything changed when Natsu turned 11.
Natsu panted as he walked up the last little bit of the mountain slope, he could smell the cold air as it hit his nose and washed over his face. He fell flat on his stomach as he finally made it to the top where Luna and Sol were waiting for him. They roosted on the edge of the mountain peak looking down at Natsu with a bitter look in their eyes.
In front of them stood a spear that was about 7 feet tall, the entire spear was gold and orange like the Sun, The spear head was an odd shape almost like arrow head but it was widest at the bottom and instead of going in straight lines to the tip it almost curved inwards until about hallway up the arrow where it straightened out and curved outwards until the tip.
Right below the spearhead where there would have been a socket there was none, the entire spear was one piece made out of something Natsu couldn't make out. Right below the spearhead there were three orange yellow wings that spread out and upwards like dragon wings on each side of the upper shaft. The shaft was the same yellow orange as the rest of the spear and was made out of the same material.
The butt end of the spear was just jammed into the ground so Natsu couldn't quite see it yet.
"Natsu." Luna called out to break him out of his daze.
He looked up at the two dragons who's faces were still that of heartbreak.
"The weapon you are so interested in here is called the Eclipse Spear," Sol explained. "Your mother and I spent 7 years crafting this magical weapon, there is not another like it in this world."
Natsu's face lit up like a Christmas tree as he took in the long spear.
Luna continued, "You cannot wield it yet, you are not strong or tall enough for us to give this to you."
His face fell, "But Mom, I've been training really hard, why can't I have it?"
Sol answered, "Natsu, my boy, you are very strong, that much is simple to see, but you are not yet ready, one day you will be, you will feel it. This spear is made out of our scales, the colour changes while under the sunlight or moonlight, it negates caster magic and will never miss its mark."
Luna looked from Sol to Natsu as she closed her eyes, it looked as if she was about to break down at any moment.
"We love you Natsu, more than anything in this world, we have been alive for a very long time, and nothing could have prepared us for this day," Luna said, her tone getting more somber by the second.
Natsu got confused, "prepared you for what? What is going on?"
Sol looked at Luna and then back at Natsu, "we must leave you now, Natsu Dragneel."
Natsu's whole world stopped for what felt like a couple minutes, his eyes shot open and he was having a very hard time breathing.
He took a step back and started to pant, "wait… no… you can't," Natsu stuttered.
Luna started crying, "Natsu, sweetheart, as long as you hold this spear, we will always be with you."
Luna was trying her hardest to lighten the mood at least a little bit, this was by far the hardest day of her long life.
Natsu started to get a mad, "But you won't even let me have it yet," Natsu yelled at the top of his lungs clearly angry. Luna flinched when Natsu yelled at her.
Sol stood up tall, "Don't yell at your mother!"
Natsu looked at Luna who was crying, he lost all his anger and stepped forward to his mother's large foot and hugged it.
"I'm sorry Mommy," Natsu cried on her foot.
Luna looked down at him and brought her snout to touch the side of his cheek to wipe off the tears on his face.
"Oh, sweetie. It's okay."
"NO!"
Both dragons recoiled at Natsu's outburst.
"No… no it isn't okay," Natsu stuttered
"I… had no home, no family. I had… no one, and I had nothing." Natsu started crying again as he took a couple steps back to look at the dragons and forced a large smile.
"Then you gave me everything, a weak human. I should be thanking you for everything, I'm sorry that I yelled." Natsu said.
He sat on the ground and thought about everything that his parents had taught him. How to be strong, how to fight for what his heart believed was right, and how to love.
"I don't understand it, not at all." Natsu said while clenching his fists. Luna and Sol looked at each other with bitter looks and bowed their heads.
Then he continued, "But I know that you wouldn't leave if you didn't have to." Natsu looked at them with a massive toothy smile that he was desperately trying to hold.
When Natsu stood back up Sol and Luna raised their heads again and saw him desperately trying to hold in his tears, he was being unbelievably strong for them.
He slowly walked up to the spear and touched it lightly, the scaly material was warm against his skin and he felt it spark against his fingertips, "one day I'll be able to hold this spear, one day I'll be with you both again, one day I'll make you proud," He looked away from the spear and towards the crying dragons, "I promise."
"You both have done so much for me, and I love you for it," Natsu finished and both dragons desperately tried to hold back their overflowing tears as the young boy walked to them and touched their tails and like the first day he met them he spoke, "don't worry, I'll remember you guys. You're way too cool to forget."
Then all of them broke out in tears as the two most powerful dragons in the world coiled themselves around their foster son and kept him warm from the cold breeze at the top of the mountain. Before he even knew it Natsu let sleep overtake his body.
Year X776
Natsu felt a cold chill hit his skin as he shivered, he slowly blinked his eyes to life. He got up onto his feet and wiped the sleep out of his eyes. He stretched his arms in the air popping his bones back into their rightful place. He looked around but couldn't find Luna or Sol anywhere.
"Mom, Dad? Where are you?" He said sleepily.
Then he remembered what happened the day before and went limp, "Oh… that's right… they're gone."
Natsu sat down and clenched his fists, he bit his lower lip fighting back tears, but he lost the battle as they started flowing freely from his face. He knew they were gone but he had to cry, get it all out before finding where it was, he was meant to be.
After a couple of minutes of crying into his hands he took in a large amount of air and looked up to the Sun, "hey… Dad… take good care of Mom," he said through sobs.
He wiped the tears from his face and stood up. He turned around and saw the spear that his parents had left for him, slowly walking up to it he smiled and touched the warm scale metal.
"I will come back for you, when I am ready." Then he turned and started descending the mountain.
Natsu didn't know where to start, he was able to hunt and make fires with ease, but he didn't know where he was going, he just chose a direction and started walking, he basked in the Sun during the day and the Moon during the night before going to sleep. But after a couple of days he picked up an unusual scent, a human.
He smiled and ran as fast as he could in the direction of the scent, he was excited to meet his first human, maybe they could be friends.
It was dark outside, but he could see using the moonlight. He swatted at wayward branches and jumped over tree trunks that had fallen over and started rotting, he'd never met another human before.
He got to his destination and noticed no one was there. A fire was crackling and still burning so he knew that someone had to have been there recently. He sniffed the air a couple more times, he was right on top of the scent but saw no one, then he felt cold steel against the back of his neck.
"Who are you?" a demanding feminine voice said from behind him.
Natsu froze and raised his hands as if trying to tell her, he meant no harm. "Uh… my name is Natsu, Natsu Dragneel."
The girl gave no response and just pushed him towards a tree turning him around with the sword still pointed at his throat.
After being turned around Natsu finally got a look at his attacker, she was about his height and age, she had long scarlet red hair and an eyepatch over her right eye. She wore a tattered cloth like dress that reached just above her knees.
"How did you find me?" She demanded placing the tip right at Natsu's skin.
"Uh… your smell," Natsu said trying to lean back as far as he could.
The scarlet haired girl looked creeped out and glared at him.
"Excuse me?" she said with a scowl.
Natsu viscously waved his hands in front of his face, "No, no, not like that, you don't smell bad or anything, I just have a good sense of smell."
She looked at him questionably, "what, is that your magic?"
Natsu smiled, "part of it I guess, do you have magic too?"
The girl let down her blade realizing that this idiot boy was no threat to her and sat down on a log across from the fire, she pointed to the log on the opposite end of the fire and Natsu took a seat anxious to hear about her magic.
Natsu sat with anticipation, but when she said nothing, he lost his smile. Seeing that he was waiting for something the girl sighed.
"My name is Erza Scarlet." She said stoically.
"Whoa, awesome name, fits perfectly" he smiled gesturing to her scarlet hair.
Erza looked at the boy with no emotion, "I have magic but I'm not all that sure what it does yet, all I know is I can control weapons. I have only used it once."
Natsu looked at her with stars in her eyes, "COOOL!"
She looked at the boy and gestured to him. She was clearly waiting for him to tell her about his magic.
Natsu puffed out his chest, "My magic is called Dragon Slayer Magic, it's awesome."
A moment of silence passed between the two children before she spoke again, "interesting, well you are free to rest here for the night."
Natsu looked at her, "Can I ask you something?"
"What is it?" She asked.
"Well to be perfectly honest, I don't know where I am or where to go, are you headed anywhere in particular?" Natsu asked hoping she wouldn't get upset over the personal question.
Erza glared at the boy but sighed when she saw him recoil a little, "I'm headed to Magnolia."
"Magnolia, what is that?" Natsu asked.
"What do you mean, it's a town. Where are you from anyway?"
Natsu grabbed his chin and thought for a moment, "well, I don't really know to be honest, I grew up in the forest with my Mom and Dad, they didn't really let me go into any towns or anything."
"You grew up in the forest? Really? What kind of people raise their child in a forest?" Erza asked.
Natsu laughed confusing Erza, "my parents weren't people, they were dragons."
Erza's eyes went wide before she glared at the boy, "Do you take me for an idiot?"
Natsu felt her glare and looked at her waving his hands in front of him, "What no, they really were dragons," Natsu stopped his aggressive hand waiving and sighed sadly at the memory of Sol and Luna.
He rested his forearms on his knees and clasped his hands together, "they taught me everything I know, only a dragon can teach someone Dragon Slayer Magic."
Erza calmed down but didn't lose her glare.
"Why are you going to Magnolia?" Natsu asked her.
"To join Fairy Tail," Erza answered quickly still glaring at the boy.
"What is a Fairy Tail? Do fairies even have tails?" Natsu asked.
"No imbecile, it's a Magic Guild, you know where Mages take jobs normal people can't do to earn money."
Natsu beamed, "whoaaa! Awesome, I think I'll join Fairy Tail too. I don't really know what else to do so I guess I'll just go with you" He crossed his arms over his chest and puffed it out.
Erza sighed a little annoyed but at the same time happy that she had someone to speak to.
"Well, good luck with that," She said laying down on the log she was previously sitting on.
Natsu smiled, "thanks Erza." Obviously not picking up on her sarcasm.
After Erza rolled her eyes and let the dark of the night take over her consciousness Natsu followed suit and fell asleep on his log.
Not long after that Erza and Natsu took a step onto the paved main road of Magnolia, the last couple days they got a little closer but Natsu was still curious about her eyepatch but never asked her about it, Sol had always told him to mind his own business, pretty much nailed it into him.
Natsu had never seen so many people in his life and he was more than a little excited as he ran around from person to person introducing himself making Erza crack a small smile.
Before either one of them knew it, they were in front of a large building that had a fairy with a tail in gold and underneath the words Fairy Tail were spelt out on the same gold.
"Whoa, so this is a Magic Guild," Natsu had stars in his eyes.
Erza didn't reply and opened the doors, Natsu's nose picked up probably a hundred different scents, all of them foreign to him aside from Erza's.
The screams and yells of everyone inside made it clear that they didn't even notice the two enter the guild. People were throwing other people across the building, Natsu saw two people drinking out of barrels and a couple of other people full on punching each other.
Natsu walked right to the middle of the guild hall and puffed out his chest causing everyone to stop talking and look at him.
"Who is the shrimp?" he heard someone say making a vein in his forehead bulge.
After regaining his cool he spoke proudly, "My name is Natsu Dragneel, I'm here to join Fairy Tail."
The guild still remained quite as Erza shook her head at him when a small old man walked up to Natsu.
"Well, what do we have here?" the man said to Natsu.
Natsu looked down at him, "who's the old geezer?"
Then in the matter of seconds Natsu was swatted by a large hand and landed face first against the wall causing pieces to break off and a large Natsu sized dent to appear in the wall after he unpeeled himself from it.
Natsu quickly composed himself and ran up to the old man with stars in his eyes, "WHOAAA!"
"My name is Makarov Dreyar, the 3rd Guild Master of Fairy Tail." He said knowingly and proud.
"Tell me young man, what magic do you use?"
Natsu puffed out his chest even further if that was even possible, "I use Sun and Moon Dragon Slayer Magic."
Everyone in the guild went quiet, the quietness was almost tangible, no rustle of clothing, breathing slow and barely audible, even the once creaking of the building floorboards was that of a memory.
Makarov went wide eyed, even Erza was surprised, he never told her that he used two different kinds of magic and she barely believed him when he told her that he used Dragon Slayer Magic, she didn't think it existed and he never showed it off, he always said it was too dangerous to just use whenever he felt like it. She thought it was an excuse.
"My, a Dragon Slayer, and Sun and Moon at that, the two oldest and most powerful dragons in the world," Makarov looked at the boy with interest. "Well, welcome to Fairy Tail, Natsu." Makarov said still a tad surprised, he thought the Sun and Moon dragons were just a myth.
Erza introduced herself shortly after that and they both got their guild marks. Natsu decided to get a yellow one for the Sun on his right bicep. He had a hard time choosing between yellow and white, but he would have to apologize to his mother later.
A couple of months had passed since Natsu and Erza join the guild and the only jobs Natsu was allowed to do was finding stray cats and picking up deliveries, he didn't really mind though, it gave him enough free time to build two small headstones at the top of a small hill near the guild hall.
Erza had also made her own progress and figured out that her magic was called Requip Magic, she was able to hold massive amounts of armour and weapons in a pocket dimension that she could change into and swap whenever she wanted.
She was currently practicing her sword play in the forest by a small hill when she messed up her requip.
"Faster," Erza spoke to herself as dirt sprayed up onto her armour that she decided to wear every single day.
As the Sun set over the horizon and the Moon made its appearance known she sighed and looked up at the sky. Erza slouched her shoulders after another long day of training, "better get back before Master gets worried."
As she was walking out of the forest, and back to her apartment she saw the smallest amount of pink in her peripheral vision. She turned and noticed Natsu sitting at the top of the small hill that she had been training by, she had come to enjoy the company of the silly boy and they had become good friends since meeting all those months ago.
She slowly walked up to him when she noticed the two rock like headstones sticking from the ground in front of him. Then she heard him speak.
"Hey Mom, Dad, I hope you guys are doing okay."
Erza's eyes went wide as she stepped back a little to hide behind a nearby tree. She knew this was private, but she couldn't help but listen even closer.
"I joined a guild, it's called Fairy Tail, and I've made a bunch of new friends just like you said I would." She couldn't see his face, but she saw him tremble a little bit.
"I'm… I'm getting stronger everyday… just like I promised," he paused, and Erza saw him wipe his face most likely wiping away the tears he was shedding.
"I have this one really good friend, her name is Erza," She perked up at hearing her name.
"She's really strong, and a little scary sometimes," Erza snarled a little at the boy calling her scary.
"She's kind of like you Mom…" Erza lost her scowl and couldn't stop the stray tear coming out of her left eye.
"I'll get stronger, and one day I will go back to that mountain and reunite with you. I miss you, and I love you." He reached out and touched the two headstones.
Erza smiled and walked away, she hadn't believed the whole dragon story for a while but the way he spoke about his parents, there was no doubt that he was telling the truth. No one at the guild had seen Natsu use his magic yet, but when he did, she wanted to be there.
The next day came and the guild hall was as messy and rambunctious as ever. Erza was currently arguing with Mirajane, a white-haired take over mage. But everyone stopped when Natsu came bursting through the door with a large blue and white ball.
"Erza! Erza!" Natsu yelled catching her attention right away. "look what I found in the woods this morning." He dropped the large ball on the ground near Erza and Mira.
Erza gave the ball a once over and saw that it was an egg, "Natsu, we have no idea what could be in that egg, why would you bring it here."
Erza looked at Natsu as if about to punish him when a black-haired boy came over completely naked.
"Maybe his magic is inside," the boy laughed trying to sound cool.
Natsu screamed and covered his eyes, "PUT SOME FREAKIN' CLOTHES ON GRAY."
Gray looked down, screamed and covered himself, "AHH, when did that happen," and ran away. He quickly rejoined them with only underwear on as the rest of them sighed.
Regaining all their composure Mira walked up to the egg and put her foot on it, "Lemme crack it."
Natsu yelled and quickly grabbed the egg away from Mira when her sister walked over to them, "Sis, that's not nice, we should wait until it hatches."
Mira instantly recoiled, "oh, Lisanna I didn't see your there."
Lisanna gave her sister a friendly smile and looked to Natsu.
Natsu smiled at her, "thanks Lisanna I knew you would see it my way."
Erza couldn't help feeling a tad jealous as the two smiled at each other, "well by all means hatch it just not here in the guild hall," Erza said with a stoic tone.
Natsu looked away from Lisanna and turned his gaze towards Erza and smiled.
"Erza can you come with us. It would mean a lot to me." Natsu asked, surprising the scarlet haired girl.
She cleared her throat knocking herself out of her surprised state. "Of course, I will assist in this matter," Erza said in her stoic tone. "Oh, and Natsu that special training area you asked to be set up is almost done."
Natsu jumped up in a yell almost dropping the egg, finally he would be able to practice his magic.
Natsu, Erza and Lisanna walked to the top of the hill where the two headstones for Luna and Sol were located and took the rest of the day to set up a sort of hut out of straw and wood. Erza cut a little too much wood, but she used it as an excuse to train causing sweat drops to form on Natsu and Lisanna's foreheads.
The three would spend almost every waking moment with the egg but the girls would spend it inside the hut while Natsu was outside soaking in the sunlight. When they asked him why he wasn't in the shade he explained that he felt good in the sunlight because of his training.
The girls shrugged and accepted his explanation, if he really did use Sun Dragon Slayer Magic it would make sense that he had a love for the Sun.
Natsu would sleep there since he didn't mind sleeping on straw, after all he spent 7 years of his life sleeping on rock and dragon scales. The boy's dorm was a little too loud for him to sleep anyway.
After a couple of days had passed the egg started to crack thanks to Lisanna taking on the form of a large bird and keeping it warm, Natsu was too afraid to boil it alive to use his magic on the egg.
Natsu quickly brought the egg back to the guild hall where Erza was arguing with Mira again.
"It's about to hatch!" Natsu yelled to the entire guild as they circled around the egg.
Erza pushed her way to the front and pointed a sword at it ready for something evil to break out of it.
Natsu Ignored her as a couple more cracks formed on the egg. Everyone stared with anticipation as the egg was only moments from hatching. Natsu's eyes lit up with excitement as the Egg burst open. Everyone got even closer to see the contents of the egg when a small blue cat emerged and smiled at Natsu.
Everyone gave a collected, "awwww," except for a couple notable people like Erza, who was still at the ready in case the strange cat started attacking. Mira, who gave it her regular scowl to show it she was top dog, and Gray who disappeared to find some clothes a couple seconds before the egg hatched.
The blue cat jumped at Natsu who caught it and held him in his hands, "Ay," the cat said smiling.
"Aww, Natsu he looks so happy, what are you going to name him?" Lisanna asked.
Natsu looked puzzled for only a moment before looking at her, "I'll call him Happy."
Everyone circled around Happy and Natsu and an overgrown man named Reedus grabbed his paint and canvas as he painted a picture of the guild with their new guild mate flying around the room, much to everyone's surprise.
After a couple more weeks had passed Natsu had finally been told that his training area had been finished.
Natsu and Happy made their way to the newly built area of the forest to practice Natsu's magic, it took a while for Makarov to make the area but when Natsu came into the clearing he was even more excited.
Where there were once trees as far as the eye could see there was now a totally desolate area with a small mountain ahead of him. The area was about an hour away from the guild hall, but he didn't want to injure anyone or cause any damage to the guild, so he didn't mind the small walk.
Little did he know that the entire guild was hiding in the patch of bushed purposely left by Makarov so they could see his magic, he was just as intrigued as the rest of his children.
"Alright, you ready for this Happy?" Natsu said more excited than he had been in a long time.
Happy flew around in a circle, "Ay sir."
"Hopefully I'm not rusty after all these months," Natsu said as he rolled his shoulders.
Everyone in the bushes inched closer when Mira stepped on Erza's foot.
"Watch where you're stepping she-devil," Erza spat at her in a whisper.
"Oh, you wanna go do ya?" Mira spat back.
The rest of the guild gave a collective "SHHHH!" to shut the girls up before Natsu heard them.
Natsu sighed, "I know you are all there, I can smell you."
Makarov sighed, he should have known better that to try and sneak up on a Dragon Slayer.
He came out of the bush and scratched the back of his neck, "hehe, sorry."
"I don't know why you guys hid. I would have shown you if you wanted me to," Natsu shrugged.
"Then how come you never showed us before gramps made this for you," Mira snarled.
"Because when I use Sun Dragon Slayer Magic, I get really hot my body temperature can rise to over 1,000,000 degrees Celsius and honestly I need better control over that before I can use it in public, I can't control the heat all that well yet" Natsu explained.
Erza spoke next, "well what about your Moon Dragon Slayer Magic, I can't associate the Moon with heat?"
"If I hit any of you with my Moon Dragon Slayer Magic you could lose your ability to use magic for a while, I didn't want to risk that when you had jobs to do," Natsu explained.
The guild was a little surprised, Sun Dragon Slayer Magic could burn at over 1,000,000 degrees Celsius, that would be devastating to anyone it was aimed at but now he was saying that Moon Dragon Slayer Magic could cause people to lose their ability to use magic for a short time. A terrifying set of abilities to say the least.
"Can we stop babbling and get on with it, I'm way too sober right now," a teenage girl named Cana said. No one was quite sure if she was even old enough to drink in the first place.
Natsu shrugged and looked at the mountain in front of him. He looked up to the sun and bathed in its rays, it felt comfortable against his skin. He could feel his body becoming more powerful and when he thought he had enough for a good showing he took in an alarming amount of air.
SUN DRAGON'S ROARRR!
He opened his mouth and a beautiful yellow beam shot from his mouth but as beautiful as it was it was boiling hot, the ground beneath the beam seamed to melt the ground underneath turning it into glass as Happy and everyone else had to back away quickly, it didn't quite reach the mountain which Natsu was happy about.
After the attack was finished Natsu cracked his back, "Phew, that felt great, it's been a while," Natsu leaned back and looked towards his guild mates who were all looking on with their hair standing on end and open mouths reaching the floor.
Then Makarov slapped his palm to his forehead, "great another destructive mage to add to the family."
Natsu laughed as everyone either turned tail and ran or just walked back slowly from shock, everyone except for a certain red head.
Natsu noticed that she hadn't left and looked over to her with a large smile, "hey, Erza, what's up?"
Erza walked up to Natsu with a straight face, "Can you tell me about your parents?" the way she asked, it was almost a demand instead of a question.
Natsu was surprised, Erza never really asked about his parents and he was under the impression she didn't even believe him.
"Uh, sure, what's with the sudden interest?" Natsu asked.
Erza sighed and looked away, "to be honest I had a hard time believing the stories about your parents, but with that show of destruction, I'm curious."
Natsu smiled wide and got right up in her face, causing Erza to take a couple steps back and blush "well, my Dad's name is Sol, the Sun Dragon, and my Mom is Luna, the Moon dragon." Natsu went on to tell Erza about how he met them and how he trained with them all up until how they left him. A pain tinged in Erza's chest remembering that night on the hill.
"You know Erza, you are a lot like my Mom, really pretty, but strong," Natsu said smiling at Erza.
She blushed a little at this but shook it off, "well thank you Natsu, she seems like a wonderful mother."
Then Natsu got a serious look in his eyes and turned away from her to look at the empty air, Erza perked up and tilted her head.
"My parents left a magical weapon for me up at the top of the mountain I grew up on, when I'm ready I'll go back for it." Erza noticed the far off look in his eyes. "When I do, I want you to come with me."
Erza flinched slightly at the request, "why would you want me to come with you?"
"You were the first human I ever met, my first friend I want you to come with me, to the place that they said their goodbye's."
Erza was sceptical but at the same time felt a sense of pride, she felt special, but then a thought crossed her mind, "Natsu how do you know that the weapon is even still there, anyone could have found it and taken it."
Natsu shook his head, "no, they said that only I would be able to wield it, and I believe them."
The look Natsu gave Erza made her believe him as well, it was like she had no choice but to trust every single word that came out of his mouth.
Erza closed her eyes and looked down for a moment before looking back up at the boy and opening her eyes, "very well Natsu, I shall accompany you on this venture."
Natsu smiled and jumped, "you'll come too won't you Happy?"
Happy landed on Natsu's pink hair, "Ay sir!"
Natsu laughed and Erza joined them with a small chuckle before they headed back to Fairy Tail.
