Author's note:
A friend of mine once told me she read that the only way to edit a work is to write it anew. At the time I thought: 'Wtf? It's like throwing away all the work I had.' But after attempting to edit this story, I can see now how it makes sense. So, I will start this story all over again. I will keep the chapter's content so that it's coherent to read it through before I'm completely done. Hope you enjoy the story 😉

Kakashi was preparing for his new mission. It would be a difficult one, so he went over the mission file again.
Almost 10 years ago, a jutsu was created that could open a portal to another world. For two years, tests had been made and when considered safe enough, they sent someone through to study and gather information about that strange world.
Manami Kaigan was the chosen one. She was a young kunoichi, only 13 years old at the time, but she was very promising. She hadn't been the class best, but considering her origin from a civilian family, she was the student with the most progress.
After graduation, she was part of Inoichi Yamanaka's team with another kunoichi named Kosai (who went missing during the third shinobi war) and a shinobi called Migueru (he is currently an ANBU member). The team had been trained in infiltration and information gathering. In a report from Inoichi about Manami's abilities, Kakashi learned that her chakra nature was fire and water.
'Strange combination' he thought.
Manami's mission should have only lasted for two years, but with the third shinobi war intensifying and the events with the kyuubi later, it seemed she had been forgotten. Now, the Hokage wanted her back.
He gave Kakashi four weeks to complete his mission. After every week, he would have a window of two minutes where the portal would be open. If he missed those windows, he would be stranded in that world.
With nothing more to learn from the files, the white-haired shinobi looked at the photo attached. A young girl with brown hair and brown eyes looked back at him. There was nothing unusual or outstanding on her face, unless her smile. She had only a small smile, but Kakashi thought it was warm and sincere. He had a vague memory of her, probably from the academy, since she is only one year younger than him.
He ended up taking that picture from the file and added to his things to pack. Looking one last time at her face he thought about how he would find that girl, now a woman, in a completely unknown world.
