Soulmates

He had been feeling down. Living with the Dursleys was horrible. Every day was a struggle for the young boy. Every day seemed worse than the last.

He had hoped school would offer him an escape from the daily hell he lived in. But it only made it worse. Now he not only had to face Dudley but he had to also face Dudley's gang of friends. They had recently started a new game-Harry Hunting. No matter where he hid, they found him and then began the beatings and humiliation.

It was with these heavy thoughts circling his mind that he trudged his way back to the Dursleys after a horrible day. He wasn't paying much attention where he was going. Dudley and gang had already given him his afternoon "lesson" so they had buggered off at least until tomorrow.

His backpack dragged on the ground, his steps slow and heavy. He didn't see the girl until after she had stepped directly in his path. His brain registered her presence just in time for him to pull up short of plowing into her. He looked up to apologize and blinked several times at the girl in front of him. She had long curly hair, big eyes and a huge smile on her face.

Harry wasn't used to someone smiling at him. He looked over his shoulder thinking she was smiling at someone behind him. But there was no one there. He turned back to the girl curious now.

"Hello." He mumbled awkwardly.

The girl smiled at him even bigger and said, "I've been waiting for you for the longest time."

Harry queried his brow, "You have? But why?"

"Because you are mine and I am yours." She answered. "I was worried you wouldn't come."

He looked at the small girl, her large grey blue eyes filled with happiness and love. Her hand reached out for his and he felt the oddest tingle from the contact. A sudden feeling of contentment and happiness swelled within him. Something he had never felt before.

"Who-who are you? What was that?" He asked wondrously.

"I'm Luna. And that was our magic connecting. We're soulmates Harry."

"Magic? Wait, how do you know my name?"

"Because I have dreamed of you my whole life. I knew one day we would meet and you would need me. So I came to you."

"Magic?"

"Oh Harry, I have so much to tell you." Her eyes lit with joy as she tugged his hand and turned back the way he had come from.

"But I live the other direction," he stuttered.

"You used to. Not anymore. Come with me."

Harry's heart beat rapidly, could he really leave? What would a life without the Dursleys be like? It took a split second to decide to trust her. It just felt right. And anything would be better than that dusty cupboard he was forced to sleep in.

They walked along in silence before stopping before what appeared to be an abandoned storefront. She tugged him along, smiling back at him the whole time. For some reason he wasn't worried. He didn't understand it but the tingling and the happiness hadn't left him yet. Whatever gave him this good feeling was something he wanted to learn more about. He trusted it instinctually.

The storefront turned out to not be a storefront but a pub of sorts. It was filled with rough looking old men who were smoking like chimneys. They glared at them when they entered. The inside had carpet that was probably once a brilliant red but was now a faded odd looking color. There was a large scarred wooden bar across the way. Their shoes stuck slightly on the floor as she led him through the hazy room.

She led him through a back hall and into another room. This one had people in strange clothes that reminded Harry of graduation gowns, which was an odd fashion choice, even coming from a boy who wore his obese cousins cast offs. Silence filled the room before whispering started. He caught his name several times as the people stared at him. It was the oddest thing. How did they know his name? Why were they looking at him like that?

He and Luna stopped before a wall, as she pulled him to one side. "It won't be but just a moment. You'll see."

And it wasn't just a few seconds later one of the strangely dressed men stepped before the wall and pulled a stick from his pocket. He tapped the bricks and the wall began to shift and move to reveal a whole new place.

"What?! How?! Where?!" He spat the questions out so quickly they all ran together.

Luna smiled mischievously, "Magic Harry."

Once again she pulled him along, Harry gaping at the sights. This was the moment that he knew his life would be forever changed.
