"Nothing makes sense." Daisuke sighs as he plops on his bed, exhausted.
He'd been pacing the room trying for hours to figure it out. He thought everything would make sense after defeating the Digimon Kaiser, but he still had so many questions. Why couldn't Veemon evolve? What was Ken Ichijoiji up to? And why was Hikari always going off with Takeru and not him?
So many thoughts ran through his mind, but each answer led to only more questions, and he was dead tired chasing their trail.
Just then, Chibimon sneaks into his room, hugging a steaming bowl tight to his tiny chest. "Daisuke," he calls, walking towards the boy in the bed, careful to balance the contents of the bowl all the way.
"I know you've had a lot on your mind today, so I made your favorite: ramen! A Chibimon special," the baby digimon continues with his whole little chest.
Daisuke sits up from the bed to receive the bowl from his beaming partner. He pauses to appreciate its contents. It was the standard fare: a bowlful of noodles, with some leaks and beef bits. Clearly one of the instant noodle packs they stocked in the kitchen cupboards just last week.
Despite this, Daisuke can't help but be touched.
To keep their digimon's low profile, he had only brought his digimon out for ramen once, months ago, yet his partner still somehow remembers him mentioning this was his favorite.
In this simple soup stock he doesn't just see instant noodles. He sees memories of that chilly spring day, little Chibimon tucked snug in the zip of his jacket. He remembers the warmth inside the ramen house, and all the smells so good that he almost didn't push back when his digimon peeked to get a whiff. He sees the savory bowl that they share, and the mess that they make on the countertop from slurping every last drop.
And now, he sees his best friend, his partner, who has been there from the start, and will see him through till the end.
Wth the weight of this all, Daisuke looks dearly at his digimon and says, "Thanks buddy. This means a lot."
The little digimon could only beam brighter.
Sending one last grateful glance at his partner, Daisuke finally takes a taste of the enticing soup.
An experience. An explosion of flavors.
And none of them any good.
"What was that?!" Daisuke demands, spitting out the offending foodstuff.
"Ramen!" the digimon chirps.
"That was a lot of things pal, but I don't think any of them were ramen."
"It is ramen! Here's the pack right here!" Chibimon says defensively, passing his partner the plastic packaging he'd had held behind the bowl.
Daisuke is skeptical. The dish tasted nothing like what this brand should have tasted like. "What recipe did you follow?" the boy asks, still spitting bits of the disgusting soup.
"What recipe?"
"The recipe! This!" roars the boy, pounding on the text at the back of the pack.
"Aah..." Chbiimon stares in awe. "So that's what those were."
"You didn't read the recipe?!"
"Daisuke," Chibimon says, shooting his partner the dirtiest look, hoping this might be enough for his partner to pick up on the obvious. When Daisuke only raises an eyebrow, the digimon spells it out for him: "I don't know how to read."
Daisuke blinks dumbstruck at his partner, then at the steaming bowl of something, before landing back on his partner's solicitous stare.
Then he explodes into knee-slapping laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" his partner presses, stomping his little feet.
"Nothing, nothing," the boy replies, wiping laugh tears from his eyes. "Tell you what, how about we head to the kitchen and I show you how to make some real ramen?"
A twinkle lights up in the baby digimon's eyes, until he remembers the soup still in Daisuke's hands. "What do we do with this though?"
"Don't worry, buddy, I got this," the boy says with a wink, before heading out the door and shouting "Hey Jun, Yamato brought you something!"
