Honestly? Sora didn't know what he'd do without Kairi...
And he didn't mean that in some sappy romance, star-crossed lovers kind of way.
But ever since Sora had found out he was a demigod (how insane was that?!), and that everyone at the camp he went to was also that, she had been there for him, helping to adjust to things.
The worst of those things to start with, had been when Sora's mom—who really loved cooking, and wanted to be a chef; and could make the best dinners you would ever taste—was obliterated in front of Sora's very eyes by the minotaur.
Thankfully, Sora, Kairi, and their friend Goofy had been able to save her, by going on a crazy quest to the Underworld—long story, that one. And Sora did NOT want to get into it—but it had really been Kairi's smart attitude (because she was one of the few who still chose to go to school, on the campus at Camp Half-Blood) and her no-nonsense demeanor (and some of her snark that Sora appreciated, too. He wouldn't lie about that) that had really gotten him through that traumatizing ordeal.
Kairi, Daughter of Athena, had been at Camp Half-Blood since she was five; and so she had been there much longer than most. Kairi's grandmother, who had known a great deal about the Greek gods, had protected the young girl as best she could… but eventually she had been murdered (and she... hadn't been able to be saved, unlike Sora's mom), and another demi-god, Riku (who had been a wee-bit older than Kairi—and who Sora, when he had eventually met him, had had an interesting relationship with, to say the least, but now they were okay), and a girl named "Xion" (who had later ended up sacrificing herself to protect the other two for the time being) had brought Kairi to Camp.
And after that, Sora and Kairi had had a disastrous road of quests and many misadventures themselves... but they had fallen in love.
And Kairi had proven to be Sora's light in the darkness more than once, such as when she'd been his Earthly tether when he'd been becoming invulnerable at the River Styx. And he would never change that, even to become a god: something he'd even be offered.
But, anyway... This was all water under the Son of Poseidon's bridge. Sora really didn't know why he was thinking about it all now (okay, maybe he did. Sora had totally sold out, and had decided to sell his story to a publishing company for some money. Being a hero didn't exactly pay well, after all!).
But at this exact moment? Kairi was proving that she was perfect for Sora, like she so often did. They were back-to-back, facing the vampire-like-creatures (Sora couldn't be bothered to remember their actual name right now), that they'd defeated before (they must have just come out of Tartarus), and who of course had a grudge against them.
"Lazy bum!" Kairi complained, around the knife that was in her mouth, as she searched for anything in her bag that might help them here. "Anything you can do to help the situation would be greatly appreciated!"
And there was something that Sora could do here. Of course there was. These dam ladies had decided to attack them at the Hoover dam, so they were really about to get what was coming to them... but Kairi's red hair looked so flaming in the sunlight... and her lovely violet eyes looked so quizzical right now, that Sora had to savor them for just a second.
"I love you, Kai" he said, with all his heart, extending a hand to brush Kairi's face.
And emotion flashed in Kairi's eyes, then; and she seemed about to say something back... but their enemies were cleverly moving in to attack her, so Sora did a Butterfly stroke motion with his arms and the dam that was behind them burst.
Fortunately, the only ones in front of it right now, Sora and Kairi themselves, and these beasts from the Underworld... there also wasn't much in the way of greenery or archery or anything like that here, so Sora didn't have to feel bad the he was ruining too much of value here to save his and Kairi's life.
Since Kairi, cleverly, had taken to wearing the symbol of Hermes as a pendant around her neck as of late—the symbol of a god—the moment the water touched the "vamps", it became purified and they were destroyed.
Sora and Kairi, meanwhile, went for a dizzying swim around the area. When they finally landed, Kairi was on top of Sora... and Sora almost felt like he could take off with the wings on Kairi's pendant and fly.
"I love you, too, Sora," Kairi seemed to assure him now, reverently, moving a stray piece of hair out from over his eyes.
And much like the myth of Odysseus and Penelope, when Kairi leaned her head down, so that her and Sora's lips might meet, Sora knew he was home.
Author's Note: I was honestly too lazy to look up the name of the creatures that are like vampires in Greek mythology—in the PJO series—and I know you can't defeat them like this. I'm sorry. But in my defense, I'm super sick. So, creative liberties. Plus, it sort of fits Sora!Percy to not know/care.
And speaking of creative liberties, you may have noticed that not everything is a PJO carbon copy here, to better fit with KH and its characters and the little universe I made here. Like, Riku is Luke, but I had him somehow survive (unlike Luke), and then he and Sora became besties. And Camp Half-Blood in this had schooling from the get-go, ala New Rome.
Most of this is telling, I know. And I greatly apologize for that. But I didn't have time to do a full SoKai!Percabeth fic. One day, maybe.
Even so, I hope you guys got even some enjoyment out of this!
