It had been a good year since Total Drama went off the air after Pahkitew Island. What an unfortunate mess that season was, netting the worst ratings of the show. While Sky may have won the million dollars for herself and moved on, with Shawn and Jasmine moving on with their happy relationship, Max on the other hand had a whole lot he had been dealing with ever since his departure.
The boy had been unfairly kicked off of the show, there was no doubt about that. On the mere whim of the egocentric Chris, the evil mastermind had been kicked off of the show along with his traitor. Fortunately for him though, seven months after the show ended he got a phone call from a certain lawyer that wanted to meet with him in person.
Two months ago...
"Why in a food court of all places... this is no evil lair for planning!" Max complained as he looked around the food court for the person he would be meeting with.
Plenty of people now knew exactly who Max was thanks to his appearance on Total Drama, and he got plenty of snickers and laughs sent his way just from the sight of him. "What's so funny? I am an evil menace I'll have you know!" Max yelled at them, embarrassed to have all these people making fun of him.
His evil schemes and behavior had been played for laughs and jokes on TV, so that's all people saw him as. A joke. A throwaway contestant who should have never reached fifth place, and it infuriated him to no end. It was part of why he barely went out much anymore, even less so than before he went on Total Drama. No one took him seriously.
It was pretty easy for him to spot who he was meeting with, since they were one of the few who wasn't laughing at him or just giggling at his presence. "Hello Max, it's good to meet you finally." the CIT turned lawyer Courtney greeted him, dressed in a gray blouse and black pants in contrast to her normal outfit.
She had a stack of documents sitting on the table, which had food from McRonald's next to it. "What is the meaning of this? You know I am a very busy mastermind!" Max asked Courtney right away, taking his usual rude tone.
"For your information..." Courtney began, paying no attention to his tone for now. "You are a victim of wrongful termination. I'm trying to help you get even with Chris." she told him, which caught Max's interest right away as she expected.
Max sat down at the table next to Courtney, sitting facing in her direction. He crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes after she spoke. "Do you think me so stupid to fall for another scandal? Your simple words will NOT work on me!" Max scolded her, trying to come off as intimidating as he could.
Courtney rolled her eyes, then grabbed the document from the top of the stack. "No, I'm here to help you get back at Chris with our own scandal. I've dealt with actual criminals, so a gnome like you isn't the slightest bit scary." she told him, which both offended and humbled Max a little.
Max didn't change his posture though, just eyeing the documents in her hand. "Well what are we doing then? Signing him up for a contract for evil torture? It'd have to be evil for it to be worth it." Max asked, since he still didn't know what was going on.
Courtney smirked at his last sentence, then nodded her head. "Oh, it's evil by your terms absolutely. You were robbed of a chance at one million dollars, so we'll be suing the network for three million for televised defamation and violating your contract by both risking your life and unfairly booting you from the show. I just need to get some words from you so we can have a solid case." Courtney explained to him, which Max somewhat understood.
To not look dumb, Max just nodded along with it. "I understand, I do like these kinds of evil schemes that help me out!" Max let out a small evil laugh.
"There are evil schemes that don't help you out that you like?" Courtney quickly questioned him.
Max realized his small error and shook his head. "No! I meant that I like this! Whatever! What do I need to do?" Max asked, getting a bit flustered.
Courtney sifted through the documents in the stack, finding one with spots that needed to be filled out and pulling it out. She readied a pen, turning to face the table instead of Max. "First question, do you believe you were unfairly kicked off of Total Drama Pahkitew Island?" Courtney asked him, reading off the questions she had prepared.
Max nodded, letting out a small grunt. "Well of course. Chris was a fool for giving me an elimination so unfitting of an evil mastermind!" he answered, with plenty of bitterness in his voice. Courtney just wrote "yes."
"Next question, do you believe you would have won the million-dollar prize if you weren't unfairly kicked off?" Courtney asked, just prepared to write yes again.
"Of course! None of the other weaklings in the competition stood a chance against my evil power!" Max answered, and Courtney wrote down the answer she already planned to.
Since all of Max's answers were going to be like this clearly, Courtney just answered the rest of the questions herself. "Okay, that was all I needed question-wise. Now I just need several signatures from you to verify that I did in fact meet with you." Courtney told Max, grabbing three different documents from the stack which had blank signature spots at the bottom.
Courtney handed Max a purple pen, then pointed at the empty signature spots. "Sign here, here, and here." she ordered, which Max did so without a second thought. He didn't even read the text above the signature line.
Now that she had her signatures, Courtney got a satisfied smile on her face as she took the documents from him and put them all in her briefcase. "Thank you for helping out Max. My rate is 50% of your money won in this case, which you just signed to. Of course, you will still be receiving more than one million dollars if we win this case, so I doubt you will care. I will contact you with updates on the case." Courtney told Max, which shocked him for a second that she would be getting half of his money.
"You fiend! You tricked me! How dare you pull a scheme like that against an evil mastermind!" Max yelled at Courtney as she got up from her seat.
Courtney looked back at him for a moment, still having her smile. "Oh Max, you haven't been tricked, you'll be given justice and get everything you deserve. Whether that be good or bad, we'll see what the justice system decides. Take care." Courtney then gave a quick wave and walked away from the table and out of the food court.
Max grumbled to himself as she left, before just moving on to what was left of her McRonald's meal and began to eat it. Chris was going to pay, although he still didn't know exactly how the network paying up would affect Chris.
Back in the present...
Max was still in his mom's basement, having just finished his junior year of high school. He had the whole summer to himself, since he didn't need to take summer school classes thanks to his grades. Despite being a bit clumsy and incompetent generally, he still had a lot of book smarts. Just... only book smarts, people smarts was a whole other subject. "Hmm, Mrs. Benning did not give me a tip for watching that devil Susie for a whole weekend!? What a conniving cheapskate!" Max counted the twenties in his hand, noticing that he hadn't gotten a tip.
He usually babysat over summers, since he was known for being great with children throughout the neighborhood, as much as he still refuses to admit it. "That's the last time I babysit for them, they won't even give someone as impressive as me proper acknowledgment!" Max shouted, setting the money down on his desk that was currently empty save for his computer.
Max was about to go searching for another job in the area on Headbook, but his phone soon went off. He had made a contact for Courtney, so he knew right away that it was her. He was very quick to answer it as well. "Hello? You've reached the evil lair of Max! I- We are not hiring sidekicks at this time." he greeted her like he greeted everyone that called his cell phone.
"This is Courtney Prescott, I was able to make an out-of-court settlement with the network, since they didn't want this case going public. I believe that you will be happy to hear it." Courtney greeted him back, which made a grin grow on Max's face. She couldn't see it obviously, but he was spinning in his swivel chair at the moment, wide-eyed and delighted to hear that a settlement was made.
"Well tell me what it is!" Max demanded, closing the Headbook tab on his computer since it wasn't important right now.
Over on Courtney's side, she was in her office sitting at her desk with her laptop in front of her currently open. "The network agreed to give you four million dollars, but you will be hosting their next season of Total Drama in Japan. You'll get your money after the season is over. Due to the documents you signed, you'll be hosting whether you want to or not." Courtney told him, which both surprised and confused Max. They wanted him to host? Why?
Max tried to hide his excitement in his voice, since he had just gotten two million dollars out of this for basically doing nothing. "Just as I expected, those fiends would not get off so easily for taking my money! But what is this season? How much power do I have over it?" Max asked, curious as to if he could exert some of his influence.
"You get to make some of the challenges, pick some members of the cast, add your own flair to hosting it, pick teams, you have Chris's job now. He was let go. You weren't the only one who sued and it was too much of a liability to keep him according to the network. They also decided they wanted a more comedic young host that wasn't Topher. You are just the person they want. Host well enough, and you might keep the job. I'll of course be helping you out with the legal side of things, and you'll have Chef at your disposal like Chris did." Courtney went over what Max would be doing, making the villain wannabe even more excited.
Courtney moved her phone away from her ear as Max let out a high-pitched cheer, making her roll her eyes. Max on the other hand was absolutely thrilled. "Wonderful! The world will take me seriously as an evil mastermind now! Thank you ever so much, you will make a fine sidekick! I look forward to this season greatly!" Max thanked Courtney, then just hanging up.
She had more to tell him, but he just abruptly hung up so she couldn't. "He'll find out everything else later I'm sure. I knew this was the case to take, easiest two million in my life there. The applications will start rolling in, and I'll be sure to handpick the worst ones for him. He won't last a single season, and I'll receive all the money, easy." Courtney smirked, confident in her plan.
Greetings fellow Fanfiction users, it is I, the great ChaoticMax with a real SYOC this time! I hope this prologue well explained the premise of this season, which will be taking place in Japan with Max and Courtney heading it. Sometimes you see Topher hosting, sometimes Ella, sometimes Geoff and Bridgette, but I think that it's time for the best character in the franchise to have his turn at hosting! I will not be revealing too much about where in Japan the season will be taking place, that'll be for you lemmings to find out! I truly am an evil genius aren't I, holding back information like this and leaving you all in suspense? Anyway, I look forward to seeing what characters you all send in! I'll also be accepting some interns, so don't fret if your character isn't picked!
Rules/Recommendations for the SYOC:
1. No brainiac characters! Max will turn each and every one down, so if your character is a typical brainiac, they won't be accepted. Nerds and such are fine if they are unique enough, but no one too close to Scarlett.
2. Japanese characters will be preferred. This fic may be in English, but I would still prefer if we could have a Japanese cast rather than a Canadian one. Countries nearby Japan will be given priority as well, but please keep this in mind when deciding to send in your character.
3. No one too similar to canon. I know many want to be the next Noah with their sarcasm, but try and be original! Characters that are obviously too close to previous contestants will not be accepted.
4. Please title your application "TDTOJ OC: (Character Name Here)", it makes the OCs easier to refer back to.
5. Use the application provided, and fill out everything the best you can!
6. Don't rage over your character being eliminated, everyone has to get eliminated. Of course, no one will get robbed like Max was, I can promise that.
7. Feel free to send as many characters as you want, although I will only accept one or two per person if they fit the story.
8. Have fun! This fic is for entertainment obviously, and it wouldn't be entertaining if it wasn't fun!
The application will be on my profile, so just copy paste it from there.
