myLFF - Ella finds out – option B

Ella finds out what Lucifer and Maze really are. Positioned a few days after the end of 5x16. Raziel appears in 5x16, although it took me some research to find her name.

Ella Lopez' phone ringed. She looked at the screen and sighted dejectedly. The phone rang again. She frowned her eyebrows while picking up the phone: "Hello, Decker. Ready to move?"

"We will talk about that later, Ella. I'm calling for something else. Someone heard strange sounds around Dan's grave, or more precise: in his grave."

"Sounds? What…"

"They do no yet know, Ella. I wanted you to know before you hear rumors. They are going to open the grave this morning."

Ella sank on her chair staring at the wall in front of her. What could strange sounds mean? Dan's funeral has been ten days ago and his body would not look pleasant by now if they opened the grave. She picked up her phone and hesitated. Would Trixie know this? Better leave it to Chloe to decide when and how to inform her daughter. She typed messages for Lucifer, Linda, Amenadiel, Maze and Eve. Lucifer's phone was the first from which a reply came: "Lucifer knows. We are on our way to the graveyard to witness. He is driving, so I'm typing. (Chloe)"

"Thanks, Ella." was Linda's reply. "We spoke with Lucifer already." Ella looked at the words for a few seconds and then decides that 'we' most likely meant 'Linda and Amenadiel'.

The messages for Eve and Amenadiel were delivered but were not read immediately. The message for Maze was after ten minutes still marked as 'not delivered'. Ella frowned and decided to call Maze, but the call dropped in Maze' voicemail immediately. "Her phone is powered off or has no network," Ella mused. She text Linda to ask.

"Maze is to a place with no network," Linda answered. A message from Amenadiel followed within a minute: "Together with one of her cousins who is bringing her." and minutes later: "They will be back this afternoon."

No network and back this afternoon? For a moment Ella wondered where Maze could be. And a cousin of Maze? She had never heard Maze mentioning cousins. She shrugged and decided it was not important. Instead she concentrated on her phone, waiting for updates from Chloe or Lucifer.

"They will now open the coffin," Lucifer texted her and five minutes later Chloe added: "Dan's body is looking well. A doctor is examining now."

"Do I need to tell others?" Ella asked. Looking at het phone she noticed that the message to Maze was still not delivered.

"Not needed. We keep everyone informed," Lucifer answered.

"The doctor said it is impossible." Chloe told when Ella had her on the phone. "But Dan's wounds are almost healed, his heart is beating and he is breathing. They will bring him to the hospital."

Ella needed some moments to get it. "He is… alive?"

"He just opened his eye's. Lucifer is now talking to him. Dan seems to hear him."

"It is a god-made-miracle," Ella stammered. She heard Chloe chuckle for a second. "Lucifer goes with Dan in the ambulance to the hospital. I'm going to pick up Trixie and Dan's parents to bring them also there. Do you come too?"

Ella joined Eve, Chloe, Trixie and Dan's parents in the waiting room. Trixie came to Ella, wrapped her arms around her neck and sobbed: "Daddy is alive."

"I'm so glad for you and for all of us. But especially for you," Ella whispered. She looked at Chloe. "Did the doctor say Dan is ok?"

"The doctors are still examining him. But they will find he is ok." Chloe sounded completely certain. Ella looked at the people present. Trixie was back in Chloe's arms, tears slowly dripping over her cheeks. Dan's parents looked as nervous as Ella expected, but Chloe almost radiated confidence and Eve was smiling while looking at Trixie.

There was a coffee machine against the wall with a row of three chairs next to it. Ella made a cup of coffee and seated on the middle chair. She took one zip, closed her mouth in disgust and put the cup on a table in front of her. A ping. Eve grabbed her phone, read something and said to Chloe: "Raziel brought Maze back. They will come to the hospital."

"Raziel too?"

Eve nodded.

Ella guessed Raziel was that unknown cousin of Maze. She looked at her own phone and saw that her message to Maze was finally delivered, only four minutes ago. Footsteps in the corridor; two doctors and Lucifer appeared in the doorway. "He is fine," Lucifer said.

"Can we see him?" multiple voices asked.

"Well." One of the doctors raised his hands. "He seems to be ok, but it is a medical miracle…"

"A god-given-miracle," Ella muttered.

"… and we do not really understand it," the doctor continued. "I do advise not more than three visitors and thirty minutes only, just to stay safe."

Chloe proposed that Trixie and Dan's parents would go and neither Eve nor Ella did object. While one doctor left with the three mentioned, Lucifer and Chloe stood in the doorway listening to the something the second doctor was telling. Ella took the cross that she always was wearing in her hands and closed her eyes. "Big Guy, I don't know whether you have time to listen to me," she thought.

"I will always make time to listen to you, miss Lopez," a voice in her head answered. She opened her eyes wide and looked around. No one else than Eve sweeping on her phone screen and Chloe and Lucifer who were still talking with the doctor, their backs turned to Ella.

"Big Guy? Is it you…" She looked around.

No sound came through her ears, but the voice in her head answered again: "Yes and no. My dad has been your Big Guy, or God, for eons. But he retired. I took over the – let's say – family business. I promise I will listen to you just as dad always did."

The words 'family business' made Ella shiver. She looked at Lucifer and Chloe who they still had their backs turned to Ella.

She slowly closed her eyes again and thought: "I wanted to thank you for Dan."

"First miracle I did. We found a note from dad on his desk on how to do it, that helped us a lot. But still I was a bit nervous. The detective would have killed me if I had screwed this one."

Ella stared at Lucifer, in shock, frozen in her chair. Lucifer looked over his shoulder with a wide grin. He shortly waived at Ella and than turned to the doctor again. "Give me one more minute to get ride of this man, Ella."

The doctor shook hands with Chloe and Lucifer and left. Chloe and Lucifer came to Ella, who still hadn't moved and only could look eyes wide open at Lucifer. He sat down left of her and patted her hand. "If you want to talk, you can talk directy to me or call me on the phone. And if possible I will answer your questions."

"But if you…" Ella almost couldn't breath. "It can't be… But I always thought… How could…"

"Ok. I set a condition: you have to finish your questions." He chuckled.

"She still can't believe you," Chloe said. Ella looked up to her and saw her smiling. "Perhapts a small miracle is needed."

"Shall I turn that coffee into wine?" Lucifer asked.

"She need to drive later on."

Lucifer nodded, looked at the coffee and snapped his fingers. The cardboard cup with the terrible coffee was gone and on the table stood a sturdy stone cup with what looked like a caramel tripe frap with double whipped cream. No rainbow sprinkles flashed trough her mind, but she didn't dare to criticize him. It turned out Chloe had less a problem with that. "Shouldn't there be that colored rubbish over it?"

"O, indeed, detective." The sprinkles appeared a few inches above the whipped cream and fell down on it. That is: half of them landed on the cream the other half fell on the table around the cup. Lucifer chuckled: "Clearly I need a bit more practice aiming. Please miss Lopez, taste it"

Reaching out for the cup and zipping made it possible to avoid looking at him and think this all over. She looked at Chloe and Eve who both seemed amused.

"You always say I'm the closest thing to a sister for you," Chloe said. "I play the sister card. Believe and trust your sister. All Lucifer says and has said is true."

"And you knew this since…" Ella blinked her eyes and than guessed: "...that long trip to Rome?"

"Bingo, miss Lopez," Lucifer reacted.

"And Eve also knew who you were?"

"Ever since he offered me the apple," Eve answered with her eyes sparkling as only Eve's eyes could. "You know? Me, apple, the garden."

It took Ella minutes to let that sink in. Then she turned to Chloe: "And what are you?"

"You mean as in an angel or a werewolf or a jedi? Chloe laughed. "None of that. Just a simple human being like you, Ella. I only fell in love with the devil just as he did with me."

Ella hid her face in her hands. She felt Lucifer's hand on her back. "Think of our trip to Vegas," he whispered. "Or how my dad thanked you for all your support." She thought of the old guy who was Lucifer's dad. He had indeed thanked her for supporting Lucifer and Chloe. He had said she shined so bright he could see it in Heaven. If all was true...

She finally dared to look Lucifer in the eyes. "All these years… You told me you were the devil."

"I did. And I was."

"And now…" Ella took a deep breath. "You are both. I mean the Big Guy retired and you now are God and the devil?"

"O, no, no, no. No. Not both. That would confuse too many religions."

Ella concentrated on that point, only to buy time before having to accept what she just heard. "So there is no devil anymore?"

"A demon volunteered for the job, so that demon got the job. She did help me with the miracle that just happened. She did send Dan's soul at the right moment from Hell back to Earth."

That moment Maze entered the waiting room together with a woman unknown to Ella. The second woman was slightly shorter than Maze; both had their hair in a long ponytail. Maze kissed first Eve then Chloe. The other woman had stopped at the doorway and seemed insecure. It was Chloe that walked to her and took her arm in arm into the room.

Maze turned towards Ella and Lucifer. "How is Dan?"

"As healthy as ever," Lucifer answered. "I mean before he died of course. Only the doctors can't believe that, so they want to keep him for a night to observe. Your timing was perfect, Maze. He woke up seconds after they opened the coffin."

Ella had always believed Maze was a method actor pretending to be a demon, but… In Ella's head four things combined: Maze's timing had been perfect. A demon had volunteered for the job. That demon had sent Dan's soul from Hell to Earth. Maze had been to a place with no network. "Maze is the new devil?"

Maze dropped in the seat right of Ella and laughed. "So they finally told you." She reached out to take Ella's hand. "I'm still Maze and we all love you, Ella."

Ella swallowed, looked left and right of her and saw two friendly smiles. The absurdity of the situation dawned on her and she started to laugh.

"Why is the human laughing," asked the woman that did come in with Maze. She stood arm in arm with Chloe.

"She is Ella. Ella Lopez. She just learned what Lucifer and Maze really are and she is trying to process it," Chloe answered.

"Ah. That is Ella."

"Is she your cousin?" Ella whispered in Maze' ear. "Is she a demon too?"

"My cousin? Yes. A demon? No, Raziel is one of Lucifers sisters. She is an angel. Lucifer's dad had much more planned than we expected." Maze shook her head. "After Lucifer became God, we found several letters on the desk in his workroom. Such as one very long one for Lucifer and Chloe, a shorter one for me. He wrote me that my mom Lilith and Lucifer's mom were full sisters. None of us knew this, but all angels and all demons appear to be cousins."

"No other demon cares and half of my siblings don't like the idea," Lucifer added. "But Maze and Raziel take this very seriously. They meet daily. So here you are, miss Lopez, with God at one shoulder and the devil at the other. Just as they taught you at your Catholic Sunday school."

"Not exac…" Ella stopped and swallowed.

"Come on, Ella,' Lucifer said. "Be the usual miss Lopez that corrects me. I don't fancy a praying and kneeling Ella. I like the smart Ella that shows me where I'm wrong."

"Not exactly. I was taught God was on my right side and the devil on my left."

"Ah." Lucifer looked over Ella at Maze. "You're sitting in the wrong chair."

Maze rolled her eyes and answered: "Ask her what you wanted, before any human walks in."

"Of course. Ella you know how to install things as wifi or door security with fingerprints? An office is being setup in the Lux for Chloe, just below the penthouse. I want two doors in this new office with fingerprint security and then wifi in the square mile behind each door."

"I love to help you, Lucifer." Ella hesitated. "But dozens of tech companies in LA can do that with more individuals, so they will finish it quicker."

Lucifer chuckled. "And then explain them what they see on the other side of each door?"

She looked at him. "What..."

"One door will lead to Heaven and the other to Hell, so Chloe and Maze can come and go when they need without help from me or my siblings. And of course you can use these doors if maintenance is needed."

Ella shivered. "Do I have… to die to enter Heaven or Hell?"

"No. And I already talked with the LAPD. You can get an unpaid time off as long as you need. I will pay you of course for your time and expenses. Free meals during the project. How much do you want to earn?"

"10,000 dollar a…" 10,000 a month she intended to say, but Lucifer interrupted her.

"10,000 dollar a week? Perfect. Deal."

"No, I wanted to…"

"Not enough?" He looked her in the eyes; head slightly tilted and eyebrows raised. "Ok. How much more?"

She swallowed. "10,000 a week is fine."

Rapid footsteps in the corridor interrupted the conversation. It was Trixie that came in as a hurricane. She hugs everyone, beginning with her mother, including Eve and Raziel and ending with Maze who sank on her knees with the girl in her arms and tears on her cheeks.

"Grandma and Granddad say I need to thank God for giving me my dad back," Trixie said.

"Well," Maze replied. "No one will forbid you to do so."

"Every day again as long as I live, they told me."

"Once is enough," muttered Lucifer. "I don't need to hear the same story twice."

Trixie didn't notice and continued talking to Maze. "But mom and dad have always told me they do not believe in God or in the devil and in all the bible stuff. What do you think, Maze?"

"Uhhh…" Maze paused and looked at Chloe.

"Trixie, we will talk with you about that next week or so," Chloe promised.

"That will be a very interesting conversation," Ella said softly to Lucifer.

Raziel stood aside them. She turned her head, studied Ella for a moment and then whispered: "I was thinking exactly the same."
