A/N I promise to work on Cursed Blood, but its getting tedious and I've had this idea for a while. Also, chrissie0707 has an amazing collection of Dean shoulder stories called "Dislocation, Dislocation, Dislocation" that I highly recommend reading. Some of these chapters will reference that story.

Enjoy!

1984 age 5

Dean's swinging on the monkey bars while John pushes Sam in a baby swing. It's a sunnyThursday afternoon and when John picked Dean up from his half day of Kindergarten, he couldn't deny his request that they go to the playground. Dean's still not talking much, but when he pointed to the playground John got his memo. Dean's teacher says that he's a quiet kid, but gets along well with his classmates and is polite. John's conflicted about how long they should stay here. He had wanted to get a solid start to school, but it's almost November and John feels like if they stay in one place too long something terrible may happen. Especially as they approach the anniversary. John's trying to balance Dean's happiness with his own anxiety, but he's friendless and hopeless and just wants his boys to be happy. He sees a couple of Dean's classmates heading over to the playground with their parents. He locks his eyes ond Dean and h9lds on to Sam's swing a little tighter. Two other boys wander over to the monkey bars, and dean gives them a little wave before they hop on. They're taking turns going back and forth, but Dean decides to skip bars, and he's right behind the kid who was in front of him. He didn't anticipate that he's give himself a little swing before jumping off, and the kid kicks dean square in the stomach with both legs. Dean's right arms slips in suprise, and he tries to hold on with his left before slipping to the ground. John watches as if in slow motion, and he grabs Sam out of the swing chair and races to Dean. He's laying on the ground, his left shoulder out his socket and crying. The other two boys try to come over to apologize, but John sweeps Dean up in his other arm and takes his boys to the car.

"I'm gonna pop it back in for you, okay Deano?"

Dean nods while sniffling, big ugly tears and snot running down his sobs when John jolts his shoulder back into place

"Maybe if you had used your words to tell him that you were right behind him this wouldn't have happened," John offers sympathetically.

Dean nods.

They leave town that weekend, and Dean spends the entire car ride to Montana reading The Cat in the Hat out loud to his dad.
