Author's Note: Alright! First multi chapter story! I hope you guys enjoy this first chapter! =D
Chapter One: The Crash
Hiccup and the Dragon Riders were inside the Dragon Training Academy. It had been two days since the events that had occurred on Dragon Island with Dagur and the Berserkers. Hiccup had called a meeting to discuss their next move and come up with a plan if the Berserkers attack.
Well...try to discuss what their next move was.
"Guys if I could have your attention, please!" Hiccup shouted over the noise. The twins were banging their heads incessantly into the wall to see how much pain they could endure and Snotlout was being extremely whiny.
"Hiccup, did you have to call us this early in the morning?" he whined. "I have other things to do than sit down during one of your stupid meetings!"
"This is important, Snotlout," Hiccup said.
"Ooh, ooh! I have a question! I have a question!" Ruffnut said like an enthusiastic five-year-old.
Hiccup sighed. "Yes, Ruffnut?"
"Why are we here?" she asked.
Hiccup facepalmed. "We're discussing what our next move is," he said. "Now that Dagur knows that we don't kill dragons anymore, we need to be ready for anything."
"We would probably be able to actually discuss if you two would quit banging your heads in at the wall making a racket and listen," Astrid said.
"Fine," said Tuffnut. He and Ruffnut hopped off their dragon and walked into the center where Fishlegs, Astrid, Hiccup, and Snotlout were standing.
"I still don't see any point in this," Snotlout grumbled.
"Dagur could attack at any moment. There could be spies lurking around Berk for all we know! We don't want Dagur uncovering any dragon secrets that he could use against us," Hiccup said firmly.
"Yeah. We don't need an excessive armada of ships and a giant dragon army," Fishlegs said.
"That would be pretty awesome though," Ruffnut said.
Astrid crossed her arms. "Not when the armada and dragon army is coming for you."
"Then we can see it up close! Awesome!" Tuffnut said. He and Ruffnut bashed their heads together.
Astrid rolled her eyes.
"Anyway, we need a plan," Hiccup said. "I was thinking that we coul-"
"Maybe we could go to Berserker Island," Tuffnut interrupted.
"What? Why?" Hiccup asked incredulously.
"Here's what I'm thinkin'," Tuffnut started dramatically. "We disguise as Berserkers! Then head to Berserker Island and we hang out there for a while. Then we convince the others to start a mutiny and turn them against their chief! Then the tribe can just do the work for us and bring themselves to their own downfall!"
There was a beat.
"That is the stupidest plan I've ever heard," Snotlout cackled.
"It's completely insane," Hiccup added.
"That could take us years to pull off!" exclaimed Astrid.
Tuffnut scoffed. "Creative things take time."
Hiccup shook his head. "Anyway, I was thinking that we-"
"Well, I got a better idea!" shouted Ruffnut. "It's so obvious, that I'm surprised you didn't come up with it yourself, Hiccup. And you're supposed to be the 'genius.'"
"Oh for the love of Thor…" Hiccup muttered exasperatedly.
"We poison Dagur!" Ruffnut said diabolically. "We go to Berserker Island pretending that we want to make peace. Then, as a peace offering, we give him a poisoned...Uh…What does Dagur like to eat?"
"Uh, duh, deranged stuff," answered Tuffnut.
"Guys, we're not trying to kill Dagur," said Hiccup. "I was going to say that we could go on a patrol mission to look for any Berserker ships that could be lurking around."
"Now that's a sane idea," said Fishlegs.
"Agreed, Fishlegs," Astrid said.
Tuffnut crossed his arms. "I still think my plan is better."
"Okay, everyone to your dragons!" Hiccup shouted. "We have Berserkers to search for!"
...
The Dragon Riders searched all of the neighboring sea stacks and islands for any Berserker activity. After two hours of searching with no sign of them, they met up on a sea stack to report. When they all arrived, the sky had gotten increasingly dark and low rumbles of thunder sounded overhead.
"Did anyone find anything?" asked Hiccup.
"I didn't see anything," replied Astrid.
"Meatlug and I didn't find anything either," Fishlegs said.
"Okay, we didn't find anything! Now can we please go home already?!" Snotlout asked impatiently.
Thunder clapped overhead and a brief flash of lightning lit up the sky.
"We should hurry. We don't want to get caught up in this storm," Astrid said quickly.
Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Snotlout, and Fishlegs immediately flew off, not wanting to get caught up in the soon to be strong weather. Hiccup looked out to sea and Astrid approached him.
"I know what you're thinking, and the answer is no," she said. "It's too dangerous."
"I'll be really quick," Hiccup said. "I'll do one last check around the area and then come back."
"Hiccup, I know you're worried about Dagur after what happened, but this storm looks like it's going to hit any moment. If Dagur does try anything, we'll blast his deranged behind all the way to kingdom come," Astrid said determinedly.
Hiccup laughed. "I know, but I really don't want anyone getting hurt. I just want to make sure everyone is safe."
Astrid sighed knowing that she wouldn't be able to change Hiccup's mind. "Okay. But be quick."
Hiccup gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, Astrid. I'll be fine."
Astrid nodded and mounted Stormfly. She and her Nadder took off toward the direction of Berk, leaving Hiccup and Toothless alone.
"Okay, Bud. Let's go take one last look around," Hiccup said to Toothless. The Night Fury grumbled and then took to the dark, cloudy sky.
As Hiccup and Toothless patrolled around the area for any Berserker activity, the rainstorm had started. Raindrops pelted Hiccup and Toothless like stones, and the winds had increased dramatically. Hiccup's knuckles turned white as he gripped to the saddle.
"Let's turn back Toothless!" Hiccup shouted to his dragon over the winds. Toothless roared in response and turned around, but the large blasts of wind made it difficult to steer. Thunder clapped overhead, and lighting lit up the sky. The winds roared with fury, and Toothless beat his wings against the gales in battle.
Hiccup had lost his sense of direction. Raindrops blurred his vision and the flashes of lighting made it difficult to see. Were he and Toothless flying toward Berk, or away from it? The constant crashing of thunder and flashes of lightning were not helping his sense of direction.
When Hiccup thought things could not get any worse, a sudden gale blew him off of Toothless! Toothless screeched with terror as he felt his rider blow off of his back, but his shrieks were drowned out by the caterwauling winds. Hiccup screamed as he began to plummet toward the earth. He braced himself for impact and the last thing Hiccup saw was dark terrain before he hit the ground and blacked out.
And what was worse is that Toothless didn't crash with him. Hiccup and Toothless were separated.
Author's Note: Did I mention that I just absolutely love cliffhangers? X)
