Four hundred years ago, The four nations that I and everyone else in the world knows today as Fire, Water, Earth, and Air were all one connected nation. There was no hatred or anger amongst the other benders, all there was...was well peace. During the glory age, the dragons still roamed this land and interacted with the other benders and non-benders harmoniously. Sadly, that peace was not meant to last long...

The Fire Nation's Fire Lord, Sozin in his conquest of power, glory, and "cultural change" killed the dragons who roamed this land and the benders and non-benders who tried to protect them, along with the other citizens who tried to oppose his will and power. He and his massively growing Fire Nation destroyed an era of peace and changed it into years of tyranny and destruction. The Avatar known as Roku tried to stop Sozin, but in doing so, also fell due to this show of mercy years prior before these events.

I, however, was born before Sozin's rise to power. I was born to two great parents in a small village which would now be considered Fire Nation territory. We lived in peace with the other benders and dragons who roamed these lands and I made great friends during that time as well. During that time, I met a fire dragon who said I had great potential and took me on as his apprentice. He taught me what he called Fire Dragon Slaying Magic and told me this power would help change the world if I used it correctly. I had quickly mastered this power in five years, which surprised my teacher greatly, to the point that he began to teach me advance techniques and even gave me a portion of his power as well. It was then after I truly mastered my magic that Sozin's men came and then...all hell broke loose.

My village was burned down to ashes, my mother and father were slaughtered in front of me, and my teacher...he was overpowered and had his skull worn as an accessory. I tried to fend off the firebenders, but even with my ability to eat fire and my magic being so much more stronger than their bending, they eventually over ran with me their numbers and I was forced to flee. Fleeing from my village was the hardest thing I had too do. I had no money, no food or water, and only the clothes I had were the ones I was wearing. It was then that I stumbled across a cavern, filled with other dragons who were hiding amongst themselves in order to not be found by other firebenders. When I showed them my magic, I was almost immediately attacked, but one of the dragons recognize the smell of the flame and noted that I was a friend. I asked and begged the dragons to help me, to stop the Fire Nation from destroying everything else in this world. The dragons refused saying that they would not interfere in this brewing war and that they had no desire to help humans. I pleaded and pleaded over and over again, but they still would not help.

The one dragon who recognize my teacher's flame told me that there could be a way for me to defeat the Fire Nation and perhaps even defeat the Fire Lord on my own. I begged the dragon to teach me this secret she had learned, but she said that this wasn't something that could be learned, but something that needed to happen. She quickly told me that in order to defeat the false wielders of fire, that I would have to become a dragon myself in order to defeat them. I first I said that was a ridiculous idea as the only way to become a dragon with my magic was to overuse it, but she told me another way to speed up this process. In order for me to become a dragon, I would have to use my fire dragon slaying magic to kill her and the other dragons and drink their blood...

So that's what I did. For the next two years, I killed her and other dragons and drank their blood and overused my magic to the point that I became one myself. My dragon form was vastly different from other dragons as I had dark black scales and red markings all over my body along with red eyes and my human form had changed as well once I made my transformation. I was no longer small and weak, but had a lean body, my canines were sharper, my red markings appeared on my arms and face, my hair grew tremendously as well. As a way to remember my dragon "friends" and my other teacher, I took out their teeth and made a necklace out of it and used some of their scales to make me a cloak that I used to conceal myself.

For the next one-hundred years after my transformation, I went around in my dragon form burning down everything that was related to the Fire Nation in my path, no matter who it was, I would watch them burn and scream in their suffering. During this time I learned, that there was suppose to be a new Avatar running around from the Air Nomads to stop this war, but the bastard hadn't been seen in years and in turn, I decided to hunt down this Avatar to make sure that he would not go into hiding and fail this world like his predecessor did. Alas, I did not find the Avatar and I decided to go into hiding myself.

Today, I am simply a legend that people tell to their kids in order to keep in check, but little do they know that I truly do exist and are very well still alive. Throughout the years, I was known as The Fire Dragon King, The Dragon Hunter, and The King of Fire itself, but the nickname that stuck with people with the most was the Black Dragon of Fire. Originally, I was going to let this war play out and watch the humans fail and fail again to stop this war, but the Avatar, I had been searching for had returned after his one hundred years of hiding and I decided that it was time for me to return as well...

My name is Igni, The Fire Dragon Slayer, and the Black Dragon of Fire and this...is my story.

"Mmmmm...of course I don't have anything else to eat." I grumbled.

For the past one-hundred years, I had been living on a remote island surrounded completely by water. At first, I was the only person on this island, but soon warriors and other people came onto this land and made it their home. These warriors dressed up and worshipped the Avatar known as Kyoshi for years and dubbed their warrior group, The Kyoshi Warriors. I had seen the warriors practice and train in my spare time and most of them were average at best except the one known as Suki.

I met Suki by accident. She had found my little hideout and noticed me training with my fire magic. She tried to attack me, but was quickly defeated. She accused me of being a Fire Nation spy, but I quickly disputed her claims by proving my fire was nothing compared to those weakling's fire. Her and I have a somewhat mutual alliance. If any firebenders try to attack this island, I destroy them and in return, I get food and other necessities for free.

I let out a sigh, "I guess I'll have to go get Suki..." I put on my cloak and quickly left my hideout.

Walking throughout the small village, I noticed that it was quite...excited if that's the right word. The people seemed to be more happy and had a lot more energy than they normally would. I noticed a couple of kids running around in high spirits and even a couple of girls giggling about something that I completely tuned out.

"Let's just get to Suki's already" I thought to myself. I made my way up to the warrior's practice house and noticed Suki and some of her other warriors, as well as a new one that smelled...like a boy?"

"Suki." I called out. The warrior turned around and gave me a slight smile.

"Igni" She bowed and I returned the same. "What brings you by?"

"I was wondering if you had any more food. I have already gone through my supply." I somewhat smiled sheepishly.

The Kyoshi warrior smiled and chuckled at me, "Again Igni? Yes I do have more food, I'll have one of my warriors bring it out too you."

I gave her a small bow and turned my attention to the boy who was dressed like a warrior, "And who is the peasant boy dressed up as a warrior?" I asked.

The peasant boy took offense to my comment, "WHO ARE YOU CALLING A PEASANT?!" He shouted.

"You." I replied curtly, "The only boy who is currently dressed up like Suki. I can tell by your smell that you're not from here...you smell like a Water Tribe member." I said

Even before I had my magic, I had a lot of friends that knew waterbending back in my old village. Most of them were younger than me, but they were still fun to hangout with and were the best pranksters. I noticed the boy was about to speak up again, but Suki beat him to the punch.

"Sokka-" Suki started. "This is Igni, he's a friend...and a village protector." Any obvious person could tell that she was lying, but the boy now known as Sokka couldn't seem to tell or just didn't care. Technically, Suki and I are more allies than we are friends, but in a way, I am somewhat of a village protector. It was then that one of the other warriors finally brought me a basket full of food.

"Thank you." I bowed to her and she returned the gesture before leaving the room. I then turned back to Suki and Sokka.

"Sokka is here travelling with the Avatar." The Avatar?! HERE On this island? I let out a small growl at Sokka which didn't go unnoticed by Suki.

"So, the coward has finally revealed himself after all these years?" I growled out. "He's about one-hundred years too late in my opinion."

"Hey, don't you dare disrespect Aang!" Sokka shouted at me. I raised my eyebrows at the name. "Aang? So that's the name of the Avatar. I suppose it's fitting for an Air Nomad."

"So, where is the Avatar?" I asked the boy. I've been waiting for a very long time to give him a piece of my mind. I was so irritated and angry that I didn't even realize that I was beginning to exert heat. It wasn't until Suki touched my hand that I snapped back out of my anger.

"The Avatar is around the village somewhere. Last time I saw him, he was getting chased around by some fangirls." I snorted at the thought. The mighty protector of this world fooling around with fangirls. And people wonder why the Fire Nation took over so easily.

"Thank you for the food, Suki." I didn't bother speaking to Sokka and left the training hut.

"That guy is...something else" Sokka said to Suki. Sokka's impression of this "Igni" was that he didn't like the Avatar at all or anyone else for that, but he was nice to Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors so that had to count for something.

Suki let out a sigh, "Igni...he means well, Sokka. He's our strongest protector and he's definitely stronger than any of us." She explained. "From what little he told me, he had a rough child after the Fire Nation destroyed his village and murdered his parents. He fled here afterwards. He blames the Avatar for abandoning this world and letting it all go to hell."

Sokka could understand where Igni was coming from. Sokka and his sister lost their mother to the Fire Nation as well, but losing both parents would be devastating to anyone. He could also relate to blaming Aang for the way the world is as well as he had done it previously before he met the boy.

"By the way, what happened to the room temperature? Did Igni cause that?" Sokka asked. Suki at first paled and didn't say anything, but then let out another heavy sigh.

"Igni...may or may not be...a firebender?" Suki revealed with a sheepish smile.

Sokka couldn't believe what he was hearing. A FIREBENDER was not only protecting a village, but also was friends with SUKI?!

"SUKI ARE YOU INSANE!?" Sokka shouted causing her to wince. "FIREBENDERS AREN"T OUR FRIENDS! THEY DON'T CARE FOR ANYONE!"

Suki shook her head, "I know, I know, but Igni is different. His fire is much a lot stronger than most benders and he truly does care. He has defeated every Fire Nation attack single handily and has actually killed a lot of their soldiers. Trust me Sokka, he's different."

Sokka didn't say anything to Suki, but in his mind however, he knew what he was going to do. He was going to spy on Igni.

I had returned fairly quickly to my little hideout after gathering my food from the warriors. In my basket was some raw fish, salmon, and other fishes among other things. I had also stopped at a local bread maker and had gotten myself a loaf of bread. I then went to another market and got some milk as well. My little hideout was only temporary since I was planning to leave soon, but now that the Avatar was here, I was most definitely going to be leaving and following him. That, however, begs the question...Am I going to join the Avatar? He is suppose to be the hero of this land, but I could just fly over to the Fire Nation and defeat this new Fire Lord. From what I heard, he wasn't nearly as strong as Sozin or even Azulon, but was still a force to be reckoned with.

Also the Avatar still needed to learn and master all four elements. Since the boy is an Airbender, he already has his natural element down, but what about the others? That Sokka boy I met wasn't a bender, but I know more than likely that he didn't end up here alone with the Avatar, meaning that there is a waterbender here as well. As for the other two elements, perhaps that fool King Bumi could teach him earthbending, but finding a firebender that won't kill him is a major problem. Even if I joined the boy, I don't know firebending and I absolutely refuse to teach him dragon slaying magic.

As I went through these thoughts, I lit a fire to cook my fish. I sat there and stared at my meal cooking, but I heard a rustle nearby and a familiar smell entered my nose.

"I know you are there, Water Tribe boy. I suggest you show yourself." I called out. Low and behold, Sokka came out of his hiding spot and entered my hideout with his arms crossed.

"What do you want?" I asked, already annoyed of his presence.

"I want to know what your endgame is?" He responded coolly.

"My gameplan?"

"What do you plan to do after you're done using Suki and the other warriors? I know you're Fire Nation and I know you're up to something."

Oh, so that's what this is about. He believes I will betray and kill Suki and his friends because I use fire.

I shook my head at him, "I am not going to hurt Suki nor am I Fire Nation." I responded coolly. "I have no reason too. I was already planning to leave this island soon anyways, but since the Avatar is here, he sped up my departure."

"Oh yeah? Why's that?" Sokka responded, not convinced that I wouldn't hurt his friends.

"Because I want this war to end. Surely Suki told you my story." I replied back.

"But, you're Fire Nation! You thrive off of this war."

I quickly shot up and grabbed Sokka by the throat.

"Let me tell you something boy, I AM NOT ANYTHING LIKE THOSE WEAK FOOLS. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM CAPABLE OF." I hissed. I let Sokka go as he gasped for air. "You will deliver the Avatar a message for me, boy."

"What...mes-message..." Sokka gasped.

"Tell the Avatar, by the end of this day, I will be joining him in his efforts to defeat the Fire Nation." I said as I turned back to my meal.

I didn't bother looking back as Sokka ran away out of my hideout.

30 minutes later...

BOOM
WHOOOSH
BOOOM

"What the hell is going on? I wondered while finishing up my fish. I looked out of my hideout to see Fire Nation ships in the area and the village on fire.

"Oh no, not this time. I won't let another village burn down while I'm around" I growled inside my head.

I quickly ran out of my hideout and joined the chaos in the village. Making my down, I noticed that most of the Kyoshi Warriors were getting overrun by firebenders.

"Finally, some excitement." I growled with a smile on my face.

A group of firebenders encircle me and immediately shoot fire at me. I devour their disgusting flames whole. All of them are surprised by this and I take their moment of hesitation and weakness to unleash my own attack.

"Fire Dragon's Roar"

I unleashed a torrent of flames at the soldiers, causing an explosion to occur. All the soldiers went flying backwards and some of them were burned, their skin melting along with their bones. Another group of soldiers came towards me, but also got attacked with my dragon roar. I quickly dispatched another soldier when I saw Sokka and Suki kiss behind a house.

"Suki" I said, getting her attention. I saw her blush along with the water tribe boy as well. "What's the situation?"

Suki cleared her throat, "Someone known as Zuko is attacking the island in search of the Avatar. Those two are currently fighting at the end of island."

I nodded my head at her and began to walk my way to the battle, but I was stopped by Sokka.

"Wait." I turned around to the Water Tribe boy. "What are you going to do when you get up there?"

I smirked at him, "Trust me, you don't want to know what will happen." And with that said, I walked my way up towards the end of the island.

Once I made my way there, I saw a bald-headed boy with Air Nomad tattoos and a pale man with a pony-tail and a scar on over his left eye completely.

"The bald one is the Avatar, Aang. So the scar-faced idiot is Zuko." I surmised. I ignited my hand punched it into the ground causing a column of fire to come in between the two boys.

"Who dares interrupt me?!" Zuko shouts. I ignore him for a moment and stare directly at the Avatar. I noticed his body is completely tense, waiting to see if I'll attack him or not. I turned my head back to Zuko and smirked.

"Fire Dragon's Roar!"

I unleashed another torrent of fire, this time at the scar-faced boy. He tried to dispel my attack with his own fire, but ended up burning his hands. He spun around on his head and used his legs to bend fire at me, but I ate that as well. I looked at the corner of my eye to see the Avatar's shocked face. Turning my attention back to Zuko, I could see he was in shock as well.

"That's impossible! No firebender can eat fire!" He shouted.

I smirked at him, "Oh I'm no firebender boy. I am something much worse." I finished as I ignited my right hand ablaze. I could smell the fear radiating off of Zuko and I couldn't help, but wonder why he was so afraid of my flame. No matter, I let my flame dissipate and turned towards the Avatar.

"Avatar, I suggest we leave this island so that no one else gets hurt." I said to the boy. It was then that the Water Tribe boy, Suki, and another girl with hair loopies appeared next to Aang. I could already tell that this was the waterbender as she smelled directly like Sokka, but with a more salty smell almost like the entire ocean surrounded her.

"Who are you?" The waterbender asked with a slight edge in her tone as she summoned water to her hands. Suki, however, stopped her from attacking.

"Katara, enough." Suki said. "This is Igni...he's a friend."

Katara let out a laugh, "A friend?! Suki, he just firebended, that's the definition of not friendly."

"I am not a firebender, peasant girl." I replied coldy. Katara glared at me, but said nothing else.

"Katara, Suki's right." Sokka said, laying a hand on his sister's shoulder. "He's been here long before Zuko came and he took out some soldiers before he came to help out Aang."

Katara looked her brother and then at me before letting the water return to her pouch.

"Now back to what I was saying." I started, turning back towards the Avatar. "I suggest we leave this place immediately so that no one else gets hurt."

"You're right." The Avatar nodded his head and then yelled out someone's name.

"APPA!"

A gray flying bison came down towards the Avatar. He and his other friends started to hop onto the bison. I made my way over to the bison, but before I could get on it Suki stopped me.

"So is this goodbye?" She asked me.

I shook my head, "No, this is merely a "see you later"."

Suki gave me a bow, which I equally returned and I hopped into the bison's saddle. At first Katara and Aang were confused as to why I hopped on, but Sokka explained quickly that I was joining them. It was then that we took off into the air and the Avatar dove into the water and summoned up the Unaki as it sprayed water over the island to stop the village from burning. I noticed that Zuko and his men were also leaving as well.

"Well that was fun." Aang commented, causing all of us to look at him like he was crazy. Katara then turned her attention to me.

"So, who are you?"

"The name's Igni."

"And you're a firebender?"

"NO" I growled out. "Do not compare me to those weaklings. I use true fire, something that is truly powerful."

"Then what are you?" Aang asked

"You shall find out soon enough, Avatar."
