How to Train to be a Jedi
Happy 2021, readers! I hope that this year will bring loads of joy for all, I mean literally anything is better than what 2020 left us with.
I thought I'd kick of the year with, drum roll please, a new series!
Ok, here's the thing, recently I've been catching up on the Star Wars: Clone Wars series (I know I'm late but…whatever) and I've been enjoying it so much that I thought I'd see what happens if Hiccup were to somehow end up in the SW universe during the time of that series.
I'm gonna say that this series takes place around the first season of the series because…that's what I decided.
I hope you enjoy this first chapter of the series, so let's get to it.
If there will ever be an enemy to Hiccup Haddock, one legged chief of New Berk, being able to sleep, it's sunlight. Doesn't matter what the actual time is, doesn't matter if he's actually doing something or not that morning, if Hiccup sees sun then his mind tells him that he has to get up.
Strangely, however, while he did notice the sun shining against his face, he didn't feel the usual force of a pillow being thrown into his face by his wife, Astrid, telling him that it's time to get up. Perhaps Astrid was simply letting him sleep.
However, something felt…different that morning. The air somehow felt different, his bed felt different, even the brightness of the sun and the unusual heat felt different. Actually, his bed felt completely different in that it felt like he wasn't on a bed at all.
Hiccup peeks his eyes open and soon notices that A. he isn't in his house or any house for that matter and B. it doesn't even seem like he's on Berk.
"Huh? W…what?" Hiccup groggily says as he opens his eyes and finally sees what was going on. He seemed to be on the ground of some kind of desert, sand everywhere and all.
Hiccup looks around and sees nothing but sand for miles in every direction, plus a few areas that looked like cliffs or canyons. Not one single sign of life anywhere.
What's more was, he happened to look up and see something even more unusual that he had to do a double take to check. There appeared to be a second sun hanging in the sky, right next to the first. Well, it explained why it felt so hot but nothing else.
"Where…in the world…am I?" Hiccup asks. "Am I even in my world?"
Suddenly, he hears something in the near distance. The sounds of some kind of blasts being shot multiple times. Hiccup figured that that could at least be someone, so he walks his way through the sand and soon finds a narrow canyon.
Hiccup looks down and sees, well, he wasn't sure what he was looking at.
Two sides of some kind of battle going on, both sides with about 25 members. On one side was these people wearing white armor and helmets holding black…he wasn't sure what they were holding but they were firing some kind of blue bolt towards the other group, those things must be some kind of gun, he figured.
On the other side was a bunch of tan colored machines that were firing red bolts from guns that looked similar to the guns that the ones on the other side had.
"Whoa." Hiccup comments to himself. "I can see that this is a battle but I have no idea whose side I should route for, much less who any of those guys are."
Suddenly, a man with orange hair and beard wearing a tan colored robe steps into the front of the white suited men and holds up another strange looking device. The man presses a button on the device, and a blue beam comes out but seems to stay connected to the base of the device, making it look more like a sword.
"That guy must be the battle leader for those white suited men, but that still explains nothing."
The man uses this sword to deflect the red bolts towards the machines and to slice into them, quickly making their numbers go down. At one point, the man holds up his hand and, as if a massive gust of wind was centered on two of the machines, they are blown down.
"W-what? How did he do that?" Hiccup asks.
In the end, the men with the white suits and the orange haired man seemed to have claimed victory, so the man orders one of the men wearing a suit with patches of blue, "Alright, Rex, scan the area and see if there are any more droids."
The man, apparently named Rex, salutes and replies, "Yes, General Kenobi. Let's move out!"
The men in white suits disperse and seem to look around. It was at that point that Hiccup thought he might not be in the right place, so he begins to run away, but that guy, Rex, seemed to be fast as he got to the part of the canyon where Hiccup ways and says, "Hey! You!"
Hiccup pauses, knowing well that he was talking to him, so Hiccup turns his auburn haired head around. "Y-yeah?"
Rex holds up one of his two guns and asks, "Alright, what are you trying to pull watching this battle? How much did you see?"
Hiccup was quite scared for his life at that point. "Uh, only about the end of it, I'd say."
Rex takes two steps closer. "You know, I don't quite like snoopers."
Hiccup puts his hands in front of his face. "Look, I can leave alright?"
Just then, the orange haired man puts a hand on Rex's shoulder and says, "Ok, Rex, I think you've scared him enough." and walks towards Hiccup as Rex puts the guns down.
"Sorry, general." Rex says. "Just saw this guy up here."
The man nods and lends a hand to Hiccup. "Sorry about my friend here, I'm afraid that the heat of the battle can get him a bit…frisky. It's why I don't usually enjoy working with him."
Hiccup then saw Rex take off his helmet, showing a man with tan skin and stubby, blonde hair. Hiccup could now see that these guys were alright, so he takes the man's hand and says, "Uh, thank you. Sorry, didn't mean to be snooping, as this guy said."
The man nods. "It's alright, we seem to be safe now. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master of the Galactic Republic."
Hiccup blinks to that sentence. "I…see." He says, looking highly confused.
Obi-Wan raises a brow to that. "You don't know much about the Jedi, do you?"
Hiccup shakes his head. "Not before you said the word, Jedi, a minute ago."
Obi-Wan chuckles to that. "Well, to put it simply, we are peacekeepers of the galaxy, and have sworn our lives to helping those in need, protect them against dark forces of the Sepratist army, especially during the ongoing intergalactic war going on."
Hiccup blinks again. "I am now even more confused than before you started speaking."
Obi-Wan raises the other brow. "You have been living under a rock, haven't you? In fact, I'd go out and say that you're not even from around here."
Hiccup nods. "Yeah, that's about right."
Obi-Wan asks, "Where are you from? Perhaps I can help you get back home once I'm sure we're done here."
Hiccup smiles to that. "Uh, yeah, that would be great, actually. I'm from a village called New Berk."
Obi-Wan rubs his chin a bit as he's thinking. "New Berk. Hmmm, I don't know a place of that name. Is it on this planet?"
Hiccup blinks in confusion again. "Uh…yeah, last I checked, everything is on Earth."
Obi-Wan raises a brow again. "Earth? What is this Earth? Is that a planet?"
Hiccup looks side to side as if he couldn't figure out how he didn't know. "Uh…yeah, it's a planet."
Suddenly, one of the white suited men walks up and says, "General, the area is secured."
Obi-Wan nods. "Great, let's get set up at once."
The man nods. "Yes, general."
Hiccup just had to ask, "Uh, what exactly are you guys doing?"
Obi-Wan replies, "We're looking to set up a new Republic base around here, but some droids got in our way." Hiccup was still confused as to what droids are, but figured they must be the machines that were shooting at them. "Luckily, it wasn't all that bad. Rex, take charge of setting up the perimeter of the base, I'm going to take…" Obi-Wan pauses as he doesn't know Hiccup's name.
Hiccup replies, "Hiccup, my name is Hiccup."
Obi-Wan nods. "I'm going to take Hiccup here back to Courscant and help him find his way back home."
Rex salutes Obi-Wan, "Will do, general."
Obi-wan then gestures to what looked like a hovering bike of sorts. He gets on, looks back to Hiccup and asks, "You coming?"
Hiccup figured he had nothing else to lose, so he climbs on the bike, sitting right behind Obi-Wan, as Obi-Wan pulls the handle of the bike and it moves forward. Hiccup holds on tight as the bike moves along the sand dunes.
As they were going along, Hiccup had to point out, "You know, you didn't quite tell me where you were taking me to."
Obi-Wan looks back. "I'm just taking you to my ship where we'll head to Courscant and try to get things sorted out."
Hiccup nods, not knowing what Courscant is but was just riding along at that point. As they go along, Hiccup couldn't help but notice that it was all still sand on top of sand on top of sand as far as the eye could see.
Soon, they come across what looked like a large, red carrying vessel with three large triangles coming out from the sides and the top. Obi-Wan stops the bike and says, "We're here."
Hiccup gets off and says, "I thought you said we were going to a ship."
Obi-Wan looks back and says, "This is a ship. What, did you think I meant a ship that goes on water?"
Hiccup blinks, "YES!"
Obi-Wan chuckles a bit more. "Guess this New Berk really is under a giant rock. No matter, we should have you back in no time."
Hiccup was still highly confused, but there also seemed to be no other way, so he gets on the ship and sits in the right hand seat. Obi-Wan presses a few buttons to turn the ship on before the ship lifts off, the triangles on the side of the ship move to under the ship, and they move off the ground.
Within minutes, they found themselves above the orbit of a tan planet and were in space. Hiccup looks down and comments, "Whoa…is this…space? Are we in a spaceship?" He starts feeling around for some of the buttons on the ship like an amused child.
Obi-Wan tells Hiccup, "I wouldn't touch much if I were you. From the sounds of it you've never even seen a ship before today." He presses a few more buttons. "Prepare to launch into Hyperspace."
Hiccup asks, "Hyperspace? What is-" Before he could finish, the ship suddenly rockets at a near blinding speed, causing the stars around it to move past like snow in wind. "Whoa! H-how fast are we moving?"
Obi-Wan replies, "We are moving at a speed near the speed of light, Hiccup. A speed that we have developed to travel at for a very, very long time. It's the best way we can go from planet to planet."
Hiccup stares out the ship's window and says, "Ok, you guys are definitely way more advanced than where I'm from."
Obi-Wan then points, "You never did tell me how you ended up on Tatooine."
Hiccup rubs the back of his head. "I actually can't say. All I remember is waking up on the ground today and found that I was not in my home."
"Odd." Obi-Wan replies. "Well, once we get to Crouscant we can figure out what to do from there. Oh, and it looks like we're there now." Obi-Wan pulls back on the levers in front of him and soon the ship slows down to where Hiccup could see a grey planet covered in a bunch of large circles.
"Wait, Courscant is a planet?" Hiccup asks.
Obi-Wan chuckles to that. "You have a lot to learn, my dear Hiccup." With that, Obi-Wan steers the ship into the orbit of the large planet. Hiccup still didn't have a clue what was going on, but had a strong feeling that this was going to be the start of another grand adventure.
And that is where I will stop for this chapter.
I hope you enjoyed it, I know this first chapter might not have been the most exciting but trust me, there are great things to come later on.
Also, before anyone even asks, yes I will be making Hiccup into a Jedi, it will just take a little bit of time to get to that point.
Thanks for reading, take care and I'll see you next time!
