A/N: So because I'm bitter about how they treated Lyra in this series, I decided to write about what happened the day before Winn left for the future. And then a cute scene with Winn and his daughter Mary :) Enjoy!

Winn paced the floor of his apartment as he waited for Lyra to arrive. He was going to tell her about the offer that Brainy gave him: to take his place in the Legion and go to the future.

Knock, knock!

Winn jumped at the sound of Lyra (or what he assumed to be her) knocking on his door and rushed to open it. She gave him a kiss and then sat down on the couch, not even touching the remote.

Winn could tell she already knew something was up. Normally, she would nearly knock him off his feet with a kiss and then they'd go on a date or something. But no, this was a small kiss and she seemed to want to get this over with.

Winn went over and sat beside her, judging whether or not he should do something comforting. He settled for a small hand squeeze, to which she looked up at him. Winn's heart broke as he looked at her. She was crying, or at least starting to. Yep, she definitely knew.

"Lyra…" Winn sighed. This wasn't easy for him either. He had promised Lyra early in their relationship, on their first date actually, this would be a fulfilling and challenging relationship, but they'd make it work. How was that supposed to be when he'd be a long time ahead of her?

Lyra finally looked up at him. "Just...what did I do?" she asked him, tearfully. Winn's heart broke even further. She thought it was her fault? "Nothing, I swear! Lyra…" Winn promised, "it's just that...I've been offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to go…" he steeled himself to continue, "to the future. And I leave tomorrow."

Lyra sank back into the couch, obviously trying to process. She finally spoke, holding both his hands and looking in the eyes she fell in love with, "I somehow always knew that one day you would do amazing things. I just-didn't think it'd be tomorrow." she said with a shuddering sob.

Winn pulled her into a hug. When he pulled back, he had a decisive look on his face. "I'm not going. I-I can't…" he decided. Even if she said he had to, he wouldn't. He wouldn't leave her, not like this. "No, no, no. You're going. Otherwise, I'm gonna be the bad guy who's holding you back. After the painting stunt with Bastian, I promised myself I wouldn't be the bad guy anymore. If you don't go, I will have broken my promise. And I don't break my promises." she said, squeezing his hand.

And even though it broke her heart, she finally whispered, "Go."

Winn nodded, and that's all he did. If he did anything else, he wouldn't leave. Instead, he turned on the TV and popped the movie Dune into the DVD player.

The next day, Winn said his last goodbyes. To Kara, to Alex, to J'onn. And while they said goodbye last night, Winn really wished that Lyra would be here to say goodbye again.

Everyone said their goodbyes, but Winn couldn't leave. Not yet. He just had to

wait for…

"Winn...it's time." Mon-El said, clapping his shoulder. Winn nodded, but he didn't move. But he had to, for Mon-El, for Brainy, for her.

He turned around to go through the portal. He had to go, he had to go, he had

to go…

"Did I miss anything?"" Winn heard Lyra ask. He spun around, walked up to

her, and hugged her just as hard as he did after she got captured by Cadmus and returned home.

"Just in time." he whispered, pulling back. She held out a gift bag, clearing her

throat. "Uh, I put together a little going away package. Another copy of Dune, some

Lallorian lager, and…," she drew out,"a full copy of the Book of The Ten Pointed Star." she said, pulling out a dusty brown book with a ten pointed star.

"I thought you could translate more of it while you're away. Something to do in between saving the future, you know, just to…" she stammered, for the first time in her life.

Winn kissed her. And she kissed him back.

But eventually, they had to stop. Winn took the bag, and lingered for a second

more.

"Listen, Ly…" Winn said, putting his hands in his pockets, "I'll miss you." he

choked out.

"I'll miss you too, but promise me something?" she requested. Winn nodded

for her to continue.

"Promise me whenever you start to miss home, look up to the stars." Lyra

requested. Winn smiled. "Always." he promised, patting his chest where his heart was. He wasn't sure what to do now, so he did the next best thing. He hugged her.

Then he left.

In the future
A few years later, Winn stood at the balcony with his little girl Mary in his arms, looking up at the stars. "Daddy?" she asked in her little voice. Winn looked at her.

"Do you ever get h-ho-me-…" she tried to say, but couldn't quite say the word

homesick. But Winn knew what she was saying.

"Well, sometimes. But I try not to let it get to me." he said, bouncing her on his

hip. "How?" she asked innocently.

"Well, I have you, for starters. I have Mommy, I have my work. And I

sometimes see Auntie Kara and Alex. And…" he started, setting her down and crossing his arms. "I have the stars." he finished, looking up.

"Wow!" Mary said in awe. "Yeah…" Winn agreed. "Now c'mon, we don't want Mommy coming to look for us for a bedtime story and we're not in bed." he instructed, taking her hand back inside.

Mary toddled inside as Winn looked back one last time. "Night, Lyra." he said,

looking up at the stars. She knew he had kept his promise.
