Chapter 1: The Letters
Author's Note: Hey, guys. I just want to let you know that this story will be updated and revised if I catch any errors. "This sucks", I pout to my friend Bridgette.
I was opening my locker, getting out my math homework.
"Scott dumped me for that tree-hugger, Dawn", I vented, "he was my prom date and now I don't have anyone to go with".
"You could always go with Geoff and me", Bridgette opens her locker.
The thought of dealing with Geoff and Bridgette make-out sessions for a few hours made me shudder.
I quickly came up with an excuse, "No way! I couldn't do that to you and Geoff. I'd be a third wheel".
"Well, that's true", Bridgette starts taking out her books, "but I just don't want you to feel left out".
"I know, Bridge", I shut my locker holding my book to my chest.
"Hey, Courtney", I hear a familiar voice.
I turn to see the gorgeous face of Justin Leduda looking down at me with his baby blue eyes. My heart skipped a beat. He was considered one of the hottest guys in school and he was talking to me.
"Hi, Justin", I smile and wave nervously.
Justin frowns, "sorry to hear about you and Scott's breakup".
"It's fine", I retort, "we were only dating a month, anyway".
"Yeah", he perks up, "but hey, if you ever want to talk I'm always available".
He flashes a smile with his perfectly pearly white teeth and walks away, leaving me smiling dreamily at him. I look over the Bridgette to see her smiling smugly at me.
"He likes you", Bridgette says.
"I know", I say a little too giddy.
She chuckles, "You think he'll ask you to prom?"
"I hope. After Scott broke up with me I need a date".
Bridgette and I walked to math class. We see that her boyfriend, Geoff, was already there.
"Shmoopy!" she coos.
"Bridgy-bear!" he excitedly gets up from his seat.
They run over to each other and she starts giving him a sloppy kiss. I turn my head in disgust.
"Bridgette Fontaine! Geoffrey Roy! Office now!" the teacher shouts.
Geoff and Bridgette walk out the front door together with their lips still interlocked.
The teacher sighs, "I'm going to follow them, in case they get the idea to canoodle somewhere else".
Typical Bridgette and Geoff, always sucking face with each other. I walk over to my desk to see a little card on it. My eyes widened when I notice a heart drawn on the front of it.
No, no. This had to be a mistake.
I slowly pick it up and open it. A fluttery feeling washed over me when I saw that it was indeed addressed to me.
It read:
Dear Courtney,
Keep your chin up, beautiful.
Love, Your Secret Admirer
It was short and sweet, I liked that whoever wrote this didn't automatically pour his/her heart out to me. The calligraphy was immaculate. Hell, it may be able to compete with mine. I held the note to my chest as my heart did somersaults.
A secret admirer, who could it possibly be? It couldn't be Scott. My money's on Justin.
