Jed stood outside the presidential limousine waiting for Lord John's plane to land. It had been four days since Abbey had been found in Northern Ireland. The doctors had finally released her from the hospital in Belfast on the condition that she have a nurse accompany her on the flight and that she would check in with the White House physician when she got back to Washington. Ron and Nancy had left Belfast earlier to return to their responsibilities, but Lord John was accompanying her on the flight as her main companion. He was going to stay at the British Embassy until the President and First Lady were ready to officially thank him for all that he had done to find her and bring her home. And somehow, he had persuaded their girls to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see their mother for the first time since her abduction so their parents could have some time alone.

So, for tonight, it was just going to be only the two of them. Really, that's all Abbey needed after her experiences. She needed time to mentally heal and bond with Jed. After the reintroductions with her children, then the staff members, the family would either go to Camp David or the farm, depending on whatever Abbey wanted. Jed had hopefully arranged with Leo and the Vice-President to take a week to just be a husband and father and help Abbey be herself again.

"Mr. President?"

"Yes, Ron?"

"The plane is landing. It should be here any minute."

"Thank you, Ron. By the way, have I thanked you for everything you did to bring Abbey home?"

"A few times, Sir."

"Well, thank you again."

"You're more than welcome, Sir. It was my pleasure."

As he saw the plane pull up to its spot, his heart started to beat faster. He had been waiting this moment for a very long time. In fact, it seemed like forever.

He waited patiently as the pilot cut the engines, and the staircase automatically came down from the plane. Once locked in place, the ground attendant secured it on the ground and stepped away.

It seemed longer, but it was actually less than a minute before the person he was waiting for appeared in the doorway.

"Abbey!" he yelled.

She broke out into a smile and quickly made her way down the stairs. As she reached the bottom step, she must have jumped the final step because all of sudden she was in his out reached arms and her arms were around his neck.

"OH GOD! I never thought I would ever see you again." She leaned slightly back and planted a deep kiss on his lips. It was returned two-fold.

"I love you so much. And I missed you so much," he said when he could speak again. Then he kissed her once again.

Once they broke apart for the second time, he pulled her toward the waiting car.

"Get in so we can get going." As they got in, he whispered in her ear, "and so we can have some privacy."

The door was shut by Ron and the car started moving. The dividing panel was already shut, but the only other person in the car was the driver. Ron was following in a black SUV.

"Oh God, Jed, I can't tell you how glad it is to see you. To be back here and with you." Tears she had held back were now falling from her eyes.

"I know baby. I know. I feel the same way. I dreamed of this moment so many times. I thought I would never have you in my arms again. I really thought you were…"

Abbey quickly put her finger to his lips. "I'm not. And you're never to say that word. I'm not. I'm here in the flesh."

Jed kissed her again and then just cuddled with her. All he wanted to do was hear her beating heart, feel the warmth of her body, to know she was truly alive.

She knew how he felt. She felt the same way. The rest of the way back to the White House no other words were spoken as they both just wanted to feel the warmth of each other, to know each other was alive and next to them.

The car pulled up to the Residence entrance and the limo door was opened. The First Couple reluctantly got out, but knew their next stop was their final stop of the night. They held hands tightly as the elevator took them to the second floor and then the slow walk down the hall to their bedroom. As they approached the familiar double doors, the two agents opened the doors for them.

Breaking protocol, the agents couldn't help but say, "Welcome back, Mrs. Bartlet. So happy to have to you home." Both the President and First Lady were caught off guard and nodded their heads.

As they closed the door behind them, both Jed and Abbey could feel tears running down their faces from the sweet remarks from those that protected them from people who would do them harm. It had been very touching.
