It was early morning, Max slept peacefully in his bed. The sunshine lit the boys room and Max stirred slightly and turned to face the wall to keep the sun out of his face.

Just then Goofy knocked on the door before opening it and calling cheerfully to his boy. "Morning Maxie! Wakey wakey chocolate pancakes and bakey!"

Max groaned sleepily and rubbed his tired eyes. "Daaad five more minutes," he said in a muffled voice.

Goofy chuckled, "come on son," he told him gently shaking his shoulder. "Up and at em! First day of first grade remember?" He pulled the covers off the boy.

Max shivered slightly and he sighed sitting up and stretching his arms. Goofy went over to the boys dresser and picked out a shirt for him to wear to school.

"Dad do I really have to go?" Max asked as his father came back toward him and lifted the boys shirt over his head and putting a clean shirt on him. "Youre not scared are ya?"

Max put his arms through the sleeves, "uh well...no..maybe..I mean, I heard that second graders are mean to first graders and they pour chocolate milk over their heads."

Goofy frowned. "Who told you that?"

"Um Mr Pete.." Max replied.

Goofy sighed. "You can't believe everything Pete says Max. Hes just trying to scare ya." He was really gonna have to have a talk with pete about putting stupid ideas in his son's head. He shook off his annoyance and smiled down at his boy.

"Don't worry son, itll be fine. Now better go get your breakfast before it gets cold. I made your favorite chocolate pancakes!" He ruffled the kids hair and lifted him up out of bed and onto his shoulders.

"Whoa!" Max said as he was lifted up anx giggled softly.

Goofy chuckled heading to the kitchen making sure to duck so Max wouldn't wack his head on the door frame and set him down in his chair.

Max smiled as Goofy took out 2 plates and took the food off the stove and set it on the table. "Okie dokie here we go, most important meal of the day!" Said the elder goof cheerfully. He started filling up his son's plate first and then his own.

"Don't forget the syrup and strawberry jam dad!" Max said.

"I'm way ahead of ya Maxie boy!" Goofy said with a grin as he put syrup over the boy's pancakes and then poured it over his own and then the toast popped up out of the toaster and Goofy went to go get it and set it on the table and then he got a butter knife and put strawberry jam on a piece of toast and handing it to Max.

"Thanks dad!" The boy said with a grin

Goofy sat down in his spot at the table and Max started digging in happily.

After breakfast, Goofy helped his son finish getting ready for school and got his backpack together. And finally it was time to head out.

Max was quiet for the majority of the ride to the school. He started to get nervous again as they made it and pulled into the parking lot.

Goofy put the car in park and took the keys out of the ignition. "Okie dokie here we are!"

Max looked out the window to see kids walking into the building and he gulped softly. He took a deep breath trying to relax himself.

Goofy smiled softly, and he put a hand on the boy's shoulder. "Now don't be nervous, everything''s gonna be okie dokie."

Max sighed softly and Goofy got out of the car and went to open the passenger door for his son.

The boy slowly got out and slung his backpack over his shoulder and stood there for a second looking up at the school building.

Goofy ruffled the boy's hair and took his hand and started leading him to the entrance of the building.

Max stayed close to his father holding his hand tightly as they walked down the halls to find his classroom.

They finally found it and Max stopped to watch as other kids were entering the room.

The two walked up and the teacher was standing there greeting all the kids cheerfully. Max gulped again softly as they approached her.

She smiled at the two as they were walking up. "Well hello there! Welcome to my classroom."

Max stood closer to his dad and Goofy put a hand on his shoulder. 'Say hi to your teacher son."

Max looked up at the teacher and gave her a shy smile. "Um h-hi."

"My name is Mrs Ashe, what might your name be?" The teacher asked.

"Max," the boy responded and Mrs Ashe held her hand out and Max shook it slowly.

"What's wrong sweetie?" She asked softly giving him a warm smile.

"Aw he's just a little nervous," Goofy told her and he pulled his boy close hoping to ease his nervousness.

"Aw it's okay Max, there's nothing to be scared of. Your gonna love first grade."

Max looked up at his father who smiled gently with reassuring eyes. "She's right Maxie. You can do this."

Max slowly letting his dad's arm and his teacher smiled softly.

"Are you ready to come inside? Sh asked.

Max took a deep breath and Goofy kneeled down, to his level and ruffled the boy's hair. "Don't worry son, everything will be great you'll see. And I'll be waiting for you when school's out I promise."

Max gave his dad a little smile. "Okay dad."

"That's my boy!" Goofy said proudly ruffling his hair and hugging his son tightly.

Max hugged back and Goofy rubbed circles around the boy's spine soothingly and slowly pulled away with a warm smile. "Okay go on in son I'll see you soon." He stood up to his full height.

Max's teacher took his hand, giving him a friendly smile and the boy smiled back and looked up at his father waving at him. "Bye dad."

Goofy waved back and he watched as the boy walked into the classroom. He smiled proudly and turned to head out and back to his car to go back home.

Meanwhile as Max's teacher led him inside the classroom he took a deep breath and Mrs Ashe smiled warmly. "Okay sweetie go pick out a desk and have a seat we will begin our class in just a minute."

Max nodded and walked over to one of the desks and sat down and hug his backpack over the seat and stayed quiet while other kids began to take their seats. A little boy came over to Max and greeted him with a friendly smile. "Hey, you mind if I sit next to you?"

Max turned to look at the young boy with a shy smile. "No not at all," he said.

The little boy smiled back and sat down. "My name is Jimmy. What's yours?"

"Max," the young goof replied returning the smile.

"Nice to meet ya Max!" Jimmy held out his hand for him to shake.

Max shook hands and grinned at him, and then their teacher clapped her hands together to get the kid's attention. She stood by the chalk board writing her name on it and drew a smiling face.

"Okay boys and girls welcome and good morning! I am so excited to be here with you guys. My name is Mrs Ashe," she said with a friendly smile.

"Good morning, Mrs Ashe," the kids said all together.

"Welcome to your first day of first grade guys!" Mrs Ashe said. "Today we are gonna start by learning names and I'll be giving out gold stars for you guys to write your names on and tape them to the top of your desk and that will be your own seat for the whole year. And while we are doing that I will be going over the rules of our classroom."

The kids started getting out their markers while the teacher started to hand out the gold stars. Max had picked a red marker to use on his star and began writing his name on it. He looked at Jimmy who was using red as well and he smiled a little. "Hey you like red too?"

Jimmy looked back at Max with a smile. "Yeah red's my favorite color," he replied.

"No way its my favorite too!" Max told him.

"That's so cool!" Jimmy said.

"I'm glad you sat by me today Jimmy, you think we could be friends?" Max asked him.

"Hey that would be great Max!" Jimmy said. "I can already tell we are gonna be good friends."

"Me too, I was kinda nervous about today but I'm not so much anymore." Max said and they finished writing their names on the stars and the teacher was going around with tape so the kids could stick their stars at the top of their desks.

"Alright guys so while we work on our name tags I'm gonna start going over rules. They are very important to follow so lets all do our best in here okay?"

She walked over to the wall where she had a big poster hanging up and pointed to it. "Rule number 1 is be kind to the other kids treat others the way you would want to be treated, and no name calling or bullying at all because it will result in a time out and a note to your parents. Bad behavior will not be tolerated at all in this classroom. Rule number 2, please no talking during lessons and no passing notes. And please raise your hand if you have to go to the bathroom or if you want to be the one to answer a question. Rule number 3, no copying answers off other kid's work because cheating is bad and it can get you into trouble. Rule number 4, please turn your work on time and if you need help with anything just raise your hand and I will be glad to come and help you. Rule number 5 keep your desks clean and no chewing bubble gum during class. Now does everyone understand these rules?"

"Yes Mrs Ashe," the kids all said at the same time.

"Thank you guys, now that we have gone over the rules we are gonna learn our names so if you'll all quietly get up and follow me to the back of the classroom we are going to sit in a circle and play a little game I like to call the name game."

The kids all followed and did as they were told and Mrs Ashe got a little beach ball out of the closet and she stood in the middle of the circle. "Okay this is how the game's gonna go, we are gonna toss the ball to each other and tell our names out loud. For example, my name is Mrs Ashe." And then she looked around the circle and she pointed to a little girl to get her attention. "Okay now I'm gonna toss you the ball, and all you have to do is catch it and you'll say your name and pick someone else out toss them the ball and then the next person will say their name and it'll keep on going like that till we have heard everyone's names."

With that the teacher carefully tossed the ball towards the little girl and she caught it and looked up at the teacher and spoke softly. "Um hi everyone my name is Carlie she said with a shy smile.

"Hi Carlie," the kids all said in unison and the girl smiled and looked at another girl across from them and pointed to her and tossed the ball.

"Hi I'm maddison," she greeted the kids with a smile.

And the game went on and Max was the last to go and he introduced himself shyly and the teacher smiled. "Okay Max you can toss it to me now."

The boy did as he was told and Mrs Ashe went to put the ball away and smiled. "Alright kids well done! Now that we have all been introduced to one another we are ready to begin our class! So lets all go have a seat back in our desks and I'll start handing out workbooks."

Max and Jimmy walked together back to their seats and soon the bell rang for lunch. "Everybody line up at the door quietly please and follow me to the lunch room," Mrs Ashe said and the kids did as they were told and followed their teacher to the lunch room.

Max and Jimmy sat together eating lunch, and a little girl walked up and waved at Jimmy. "Hey!"

Jimmy smiled, "oh hiya!" He said and looked at Max and smiled. "This is my friend Isabella."

The girl smiled and waved at Max with a friendly smile. "Hey there, what's your name"

"I'm Max," the young goof replied.

"Hi Max you can just call me Izzie," she told him as she sat across from the boys. "I'm in the classroom right across from yours!"

"That's cool, its nice to meet you Izzie!" Max said.

"How's your classroom?" Izzie asked.

"It's alright, been good so far I think," Max said. "Jimmy and I are in the same classroom, that's how we met."

"Izzie is my neighbor, that's how I already know her!" Jimmy said.

"Yeah and Max if you want, you can hang out with us at the playground after we eat," Izzie said.

"That sounds like fun!" Max replied.

After eating lunch the friends headed outside and walked around together and played on the swing sets and the slide and soon recess was over and it was time to go back to class.

The rest of the day went pretty well and soon school was almost over and the bell rang and the kids all gathered their stuff and the teacher opened the door and all the kids crowded into the halls.

Goofy was already waiting in the hallway for his boy and he grinned when he saw Max walked out. "Hiya Max!" He said waving at him.

Max turned and saw his dad and smiled happily running up to him and Goofy scooped him up into his arms hugging him tightly and Max hugged him back. "Hi dad!"

"Hey Max! How was your first day of school?" Goofy asked.

"Went pretty great actually! I already made some friends." Max replied with a wide grin.

"Aw that's great son! See? Told ya there was nothing to worry about," Goofy said, setting the boy down and ruffling his hair.

Max giggled softly, batting his hand away and then his friends Jimmy and Izzie walked up. "Hey Max thanks for being my friend," Jimmy said. "I'll see ya tomorrow!"

"Yeah me too!" Isabella said.

"Same to you guys!" Max said.

They waved at each other and walked out to meet their own parents. Goofy smiled watching his boy wave to his new friends and he and Max held hands together as they headed out to their car.

"Looks like you got some good friends there, Maxie!" Goofy said. "I'm real proud of ya!"

"Thanks dad!" Max said. "You were right, I think I'm gonna be okay."

"Of course you will," Goofy said.

The two got into their car and buckled up. "What do ya say we go get ourselves an ice cream?" Goofy said.

"Yeah that sounds great dad!" Max replied grinning excitedly.

So then Goofy drove to the ice cream place and bought himself and Max an ice cream cone.

Max was happy that he had a good first day of school and that he found him some friends and was already looking forward to going back to school the next day. And Goofy was so proud of his boy.
