Lucifer smiled as they stepped into the elevator. It had been nearly a month since they'd been back to LA and as much as he'd enjoyed the weeks of Hawaiian beaches, he was excited to reveal the surprise awaiting Chloe in the penthouse.
"What have you got up your sleeve?" Chloe asked as she noticed the expression on his face.
"Whatever are you talking about, my love?" he asked evasively.
"I know that look; you're up to something," Chloe insisted.
"Guilty," he pressed her up against the wall of the elevator and kissed her gently. "I might have arranged for a small welcome home surprise."
"So that's why you wanted to drop Trixie off at Dan's on the way home from the airport," Chloe giggled. She would have thought that even he'd had enough sex while they were away to last him a while. They'd spent the majority of the trip wrapped in one another's arms while Trixie learned how to surf and hula and a dozen other things.
"Actually, that was strictly because I figured Daniel would be eager to see her. He was tremendously good about agreeing to us taking her away for so long," he assured her. "I must admit, I've come to realize how difficult it must be for him to not see our Little Urchin for extended periods of time. He must have missed her very much these last weeks."
"You're amazing," Chloe sighed as she leaned her forehead against his. The change in him was truly astounding. When they first met, she never would have pictured a time in their life when he would be going out of his way to do something kind for Dan. She also couldn't have pictured reaching a point where she loved hearing him refer to Trixie as their Little Urchin.
"Because of you," he whispered. He touched her face gently before placing a quick peck on her lips. He then stepped back, pulled her in front of him, positioned her so that the was facing the door in a fluid motion. "Close your eyes," his breath was warm against the skin of her neck as he said the words.
"What are you doing?" she asked, though she complied without awaiting his response.
"As previously stated, I have a surprise for you. Everyone knows the big reveal is the best part," he pointed out.
"So mysterious. I'm already surprised. I would have expected you to bring a blindfold if you were planning something."
"We'll get to the blindfold later," he almost growled into her ear. She shivered against his body and heard that deep, throaty chuckle that drove her crazy.
"I really hope the surprise isn't a penthouse full of people because all I want to do right now is rip your clothes off and pin you to your bed," she remarked.
"Patience, Detective," he smiled. As the elevator dinged and the doors slid open, he placed his hands on her hips and gently nudged her forward. He guided her into the penthouse and stopped just a few feet inside. He pressed himself against her back and wrapped his arms around her. He kissed her neck just below her ear before quietly murmuring, "You can open your eyes."
"Mmmm… Actually, I'm enjoying the moment," she purred as she leaned her head to the side and he nipped gently at her neck. After a few seconds, she finally opened her eyes and was confused by what she was seeing.
She knew it was the penthouse, but it looked so different from the last time she'd seen it. The piano had been moved closer to the windows of the main room and where it had once sat was a large dining table. The expensive leather sofa had been replaced by one that looked much more comfortable and had enough space for probably five to six people. It faced the fireplace, above which a large painting now hung.
She looked to her right and the first thing that stood out was that there was now a door at the entrance to his bedroom. More surprising was that the bar with its wall of alcohol bottles was gone, replaced by a very well-appointed kitchen with a large island.
She turned and looked at him in confusion.
"I've been thinking about this quite a lot lately and I realized I don't want this to be my home any longer, Detective; I want it to be our home," he told her. He took her hand and guided her toward the door to their left. Beyond it was a large bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. There was a bed, sofa, writing desk, and an entire wall of electronics including a stereo system and flatscreen TV. The wall along the outer length of the room was floor to ceiling windows. "I thought Beatrice would enjoy having a space of her own."
"You did this for Trixie?" Chloe asked.
"Well, full disclosure, I hired people to do this for her, but I did design it, yes," he answered. He closed the door as he gestured toward the area where the desk was. "Top-of-the-line computer, digital drawing pad, printer, all suitable for school assignments I was assured by the sales associate at the electronics store." He picked up a remote off the end table beside the large sofa and pressed a button. The painting slid up the wall to reveal a huge television that was concealed behind it. A portion of the wall beside the fireplace opened to display more electronics. "Can't have our Little Urchin missing her favorite programs, now can we?"
He gestured towards the kitchen and wrapped his arm around her waist. "Fully equipped and stocked for making the world's best grilled cheese sandwiches, as well as anything else that strikes the fancies of my two beloved ladies, including chocolate cake," he told her. She smiled at the fact that he was including Trixie as he spoke. "And, the pièce de resistance…"
He indicated for her to open the door to the bedroom. She smiled as she stepped up and pulled it open. As she entered the bedroom, she froze. His bed had been replaced with a large four-poster with luxurious looking blankets and over-stuffed pillows. A large swinging chair was suspended from the corner of the room and looked to have another supply of pillows crammed into it.
"Lucifer…" she whispered as she shook her head. "I don't understand."
"I thought it best if our bedroom activities weren't on full display to the rest of the house; can't have our Little Urchin witnessing some of what goes on in here. Dear Linda only has so many hours in the day, can't have all her work hours tied up in therapy sessions for our family. I also had soundproofing installed throughout since you, my delicious little hellcat, are quite the moaner." He pressed up against her back and again began to nibble the side of her neck. He'd realized that having Beatrice in the penthouse would pose possible problems when it came to how vocal they both tended to be. They'd made conscious efforts to be extra quiet during their vacation and still had woken her more nights than not. "As for the chair, you mentioned that you would have liked to take the one from our vacation home with us when we left, so I arranged for a similar one to be added to the room."
Chloe simply pointed at the bed with a confused look. "Why?"
"Ah, yes, that, well…" he began then paused. She knew that whatever the reason was, it was one of those things that he'd done for her but was now second guessing if he'd made a misstep. "I thought it might be nice to have our bed be one that only we have been in," he explained awkwardly. He waited for her to answer but she couldn't find the words to tell him how much the gesture meant to her. "If you don't like it, I'll have it changed for something else that appeals to you more."
She spun around in his arms, pressed her body against his and kissed him hard. He tightened his embrace as he deepened the kiss. She stepped backwards, pulling him along with her until she felt the bed against the back of her legs. She leaned back and they fell onto the soft blankets. She knew that he could have held them upright, but she also knew that when it came to them being together, he still let her call the shots. Despite all her assurances, some part of him always feared that she might someday start thinking he was compelling her to be there, so he went out of his way to ensure that whatever they did was ultimately her choice.
She giggled as she shimmied her way towards the middle of the bed and he ducked his head down to kiss her neck. Once they were better positioned, she flipped him over onto his back and straddled him. She pinned his wrists above his head and smiled down at him.
"Thank you," she said quietly. "This is the most amazing gesture that anyone has ever made for me."
"I want nothing more than for you to be happy here. For this place to not only feel like, but to be your home," he told her.
"If it's where you are, then it is my home." She sat up, resting her weight over his hips as she pulled her shirt off. She tossed it aside then leaned down onto his chest. She smiled at him as she spoke now. "Since we have the evening to ourselves, I say we spend it breaking in this gorgeous bed you got for us."
"Whatever your heart desires, my love," he answered before taking her mouth with his.
