Chapter 1

Mornings were sometimes a great thing. During the summer time, it meant that one can enjoy watching the sunrise. It also can bring along a pleasant breeze in the autumn season. And in the winter, one might catch the pleasant snowfall. There were many reasons to enjoy the mornings, but for one fourteen year old boy, mornings could be rather dreadful.

"Izuku, it's time to wake up," Izuku heard from the other side of his door.

He simply groaned and replied while his face was covered by his pillow, "Five more minutes."

Rather than oblige, the woman on the other side of his bedroom door, revealed to be his mother Nemuri Kayama / pro hero Midnight, walked in the room with an item held behind her back. However, she took a couple minutes to admire how much her child had grown. She still sometimes looks upon the lad and saw the same little kid that attached himself to her hip almost any chance he got. The same little boy who would always pretend to be a hero saving his mom from the villain. The same little boy who would help Hizashi pester Shota any chance the two got.

Now he was a practically a grown man, even though he was almost 15. Rather than pretend to be a hero, he spent the last five years training to become one so now he was well built. His long dark violet curly hair was splayed out all over the bed as he was almost completely face down in his pillow. Of course twitching around on the top of his head were his cat ears while under the cover, his tail began moving around. She almost didn't want to wake her sleeping boy.

Key word being 'almost'.

Nemuri moves the item from behind her back, revealed to be a spray bottle, and began spritzing Izuku in the face. This caused a startled reaction from the young teen, who hissed like a cat, and flailed about until he fell off his bed. He got up from the floor and looked at his mother unhappily with his bright pink cat eyes. Not that it really phased her since she found it adorable whenever he was pouting. As a response to his pout, she simply smiled and said, "Good. You're awake. Now let's get around. You don't want to be sleeping the whole day."

He wanted to complain, but knew that there was no point. His mother was excellent at getting her way in the end so any chance of arguing was pretty much useless. Because every time someone tried to argue, it would always have the same result. Nemuri wins. So Izuku just sighed, and began getting around, saying as he walked past his mom, "Yes mother dear."

"Good boy," Nemuri replied as she patted his cheek gently.

Izuku began getting ready for the day as he showered, brushed his teeth and got dressed. Currently his hair was in a half ponytail, and his clothes looked to be almost fancy-casual. Being the child of Midnight sometimes meant looking like one had to dress to impress. Not that he minded it really since his clothes made him a pro. Maybe I should ease up on listening to Hizashi's radio show, he thought as he began his breakfast.

Meanwhile, Nemuri looked over to his computer and noticed his application form for U.A. High School. It looked almost completely filled out.

Name: Izuku Kayama

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Birthday: July 15

Height: 180 cm (5'11)

Weight: 77 kg (170 lbs.)

Blood Type: O

Quirk: Primality

The rest was other information that didn't really mean much anyway. Nemuri found it sweet that her son wanted to be a hero much like her. At least as far as professions go they had similar tastes though how they wanted to show themselves was different. Either way, she still decided to support her child's choices. Despite how scary it would be.

Nemuri eventually made her way down to meet Izuku in the dining room before pouring herself a mug of coffee, and said, "Still shaken up about the sludge villain?"

"A little," Izuku answered honestly, "Though I'm probably doing better than you."

He wasn't wrong in the last statement, despite having his mom smack his head for saying it. Both Kayama's took it as a taste of reality for what it's like to be a hero. Especially for the two tens involved in the incident. Though Nemuri also took it as a moment to hope that Izuku would choose a life other than being a hero. Izuku took it as even more drive to be a hero.

Flashback

"Heading out so soon?" Izuku heard a voice from behind him say.

Before turning around, the cat boy smiled as he replied, "If you'll join me for conversation."

Rushing to catch up with Izuku was none other than his childhood friend Tenya Iida. Both boys met each other when Tensei visited Nemuri a little over ten years ago. While initially shy, Tenya was able to open up easily to Izuku, mostly because the latter had an inviting personality. They bonded wonderfully over the years, though Tenya did find it a little annoying whenever Izuku would tease him. Sometimes Tensei worried that they got along too well.

"Thanks," Tenya replied, "Though we should probably hurry before mother scolds me for being late."

"Just do me a favor and don't get grounded," Izuku replied jokingly, "Otherwise we don't be able to torment Tensei as much."

Both boys got a good laugh out of that statement. A while back, Izuku noticed that Tensei seemed to have some infatuation with his mom. What's funny is that it looked like the feeling was mutual from his perspective. But while his mom was sweet, she was also scary when she wanted to be so teasing her about it wasn't really an option for the young boys. Didn't mean that they couldn't tease Tensei by asking questions like Will Izuku have to call him 'dad'.

"Oh by the way, do you think you can share your notes with me from last class?" Izuku asked, nudging his friend.

Tenya sighed, "One of these days you'll have to take your own notes rather than leech off of mine."

"I do take my own notes," Izuku replied, "Yours are just more detailed."

"And yet you have full dissertations on everyone's quirks."

"Please?" Izuku looked to Tenya with pleading eyes.

Normally this would be a very pathetic attempt from someone their age and size. Yet somehow, Izuku seemed to be able to convince anyone of almost anything. Of course Tenya had two theories as to why this was, and both were equally as likely. The first was that his persuasiveness, much like his overall natural charm, was inherited from his mom, and the second was that it was a second quirk that the boy had. Either way, it made people like Tenya more willing to say yes.

Thus why Tenya groaned as he answered, "Fine but this will be the last time."

The two exchanged notes before parting ways. Unfortunately, Izuku was distracted and ended up taking the wrong way. This led to a run in with a sludge monster villain that tried to surprise him. Thankfully, Izuku had been training for situations like this and was able to get out of the way. But it didn't take very long for him to be overwhelmed.

He was only saved because of All Might's interference and got an autograph out of it. At the same time, he accidentally discovered a secret that no one else knew. A few years ago, All Might had suffered an injury which crippled his ability to be a hero. He promised that he'd keep his mouth shut even to his own mother. Not that it mattered in the end since his mom already knew that part.

What she didn't know was that the villain had escaped and tried to harm a female civilian that Izuku didn't recognize. Acting on pure instinct, he rushed in to save the lady while the rest of the heroes couldn't help since their quirks were useless. Even he was at a disadvantage with his own quirk but he still fought it off until All Might once again captured it. After that moment, All Might decided to share another secret.

The quirk of the number one hero was passed down rather than inherited, and he was choosing Izuku as his successor. Thus began ten months of harsh training to prepare his body for the quirk. The good thing is that Izuku already trained up a little bit to be a hero but it was mostly in his little quirk analysis journals. By the end of the ten months Izuku had been given All Might's quirk on the condition that no one else knows about the fact that it can be given.

Present

"Sweetie?" Izuku heard his mom say as he snapped out of his memory.

"I'm sorry mom," Izuku replied, "Did you say something?"

"I was asking what you were thinking about the entrance exams for UA," Nemuri answered.

"Well I'm a little nervous but I have Tenya entering with me," Izuku replied with a smile, "By the way, are you finally going to tell me the story with you and Tensei?"

"I don't ask you about people in your life, so don't ask me about mine," Nemuri teased.

"The only real person in my life is you," Izuku joked back.

In actuality, Izuku did have many people swooning over him be it guys, gals, or as he would say, 'non-binary pals'. He never really tried to ask them out since he didn't know how many were genuinely interested, and he didn't know how many assumed that he would just play with their emotions, which was a hurtful assumption that he knew some thought. Though it was somewhat his own fault for two reasons. The first being he inherited his drop dead gorgeous looks from his mom along with his cat traits. The second was his flirtatious nature and undeniable charm which were both inherited from his mom as well.

"So how are you feeling about the entrance exam?" Nemuri asked.

"Pretty good since I took on a sludge creature," Izuku answered.

"There is a part that requires you to use your brain."

"Which is why I'm glad to have a UA instructor tutoring me. And also why I borrowed notes from Tenya."

"Well do me a favor and don't cause too much trouble."

"Aww you're suppose to be a fun mom."

"I'm also suppose to be a responsible mom so make sure you don't do anything stupid."

"Yes mother dear," obvious sarcasm in the cat boy's voice.

"I mean it kitten. Behave."

"Fine."

The day continued until Izuku took off to go to UA. As expected, the crowd of students entering through the gate was massive. It didn't really deter Izuku from still trying his best to enter. Not did it hold him back from being flirtatious with the people passing by. His friend walking beside him was a slightly different story, "You really should have your priorities straight."

"And you should learn to relax a little more," Izuku shot back.

Both boys chuckled before Tenya spoke again, "Well hopefully this school will fix us both."

"I have no doubt that this will be an interesting time for both of us at least," Izuku stated with a smile.

To further prove the point, a random stranger bumped into Tenya and landed right in Izuku's arms. The stranger was a small lady with pink curly hair at medium length, though it hung down to her neck line. The unusual traits were her pink skin, her yellow eyes with black sclera, and the two hook shaped horns on her head. Funnily enough, both had a look of familiarity with each other.

This was the same girl that Izuku had saved from the sludge monster all those months ago. And now she was in his arms.

Seeing the opportunity, Izuku turned on his charm and said in a playfully flirtatious tone, "My my dear. I didn't think a pretty lady like you would be falling for me."

Normally the ladies would be blushing and stuttering like crazy whenever Izuku pulled out the charm like this. Instead this one just smiled at the complement without moving out of his arms. In fact, she seemed distracted as she felt the muscles in the cat boy's arms. She even gave them a light squeeze. A second later, she smiled before turning to look him in the eye, and said, "With arms like these you must be ripped."

Izuku helped her back to her feet, and said, "Well I don't usually like to show off, but you're welcome to see some time."

"I think I might take you up on that offer," the girl replied before heading towards the hall, "Thanks for helping me cutie."

Izuku simply watched her run off as he processed what had just happened. That wasn't the first girl to be unaffected by his charms. But that was the first girl to ever play his game, and flirt back with him. He actually was slightly blushing from it too. Of course, that only made things more fun.

It felt like a game of cat and mouse. He couldn't let the mouse win.

"If you're done ogling that poor girl, perhaps we should get inside," Tenya said as he tapped Izuku's shoulder.

The boys eventually entered the auditorium where the exams would be held, and both thought, Start of our hero lives is here.
