Hello Everyone! JoshlyPoshly here starting a new series, sorta. As you can tell from the title of this "story" it's gonna be some short stories that I come up with. These short stories are gonna go off my "Paw Patrol The Start of a New Adventure" stories that I made/am making. And due to these being short stories, they're gonna be random and, like the title says, short. If I start to write a short story that is getting too long, then it'll be its own story. Besides that, here is the first short story!

Now, the type of story that this is may seem COMPLETLY different than the basic Paw Patrol type of stories/fanfictions, but I just had this idea while in school and wanted to make this, so yeah

Also, I'm NOT a trained professional WHATSOEVER, I just went off the knowledge I have stored on the topic. Anything important things I've missed, I'm sorry, I'm still a teenager and still learning.

Story 1: Shooting Lessons

*December 13, 2019 2 PM. 2 Months Later after the Events of "Chase's Accident"*

Location: The Lookout

Chase POV

Today started off different than normal. I was enjoying my Saturday with my mate, we were watching some TV until I heard the sound of somepup walking up to me. I look over my shoulder and saw Ash standing there with his father right beside him. "Hey you two, did you need something?" I asked the pair

"Ash has a question he wants to ask you" I hear my brother say looking at his son

"What is it bud?" I ask

"Can... you tell him dad?" Ash said looking at his father

"Mijo, you have the question, you need to ask" Marshall said to his son.

Ash was silent for about 10 seconds before speaking "Can you take me to a shooting range to shoot guns?"

I look at Ash with a confused look "I'm fine with it, I have nothing scheduled today, don't know why you were worried to ask me" I turned my view to Marshall, who was also looking at me "What about you Marshall? Are you and Everest okay with me taking him?" I asked

"I'm fine with it, and according to Ash, his mother is also okay with it" Marshall said to me

"Alright then, well get ready Ash, we'll be leaving in about half an hour" I said to Ash, who had the look of excitement and went to get ready.

I entered the elevator and went up to Ryder's room to let him know where we were heading. I scratched the door with the pads of my paw, hoping it would get Ryder's attention, and soon the door opened, revealing a brown haired boy. "Hey Chase, did you need something?" Ryder asked me

"No Ryder sir, I just wanted to let you know that I was taking Ash to go shoot guns" I said to Ryder

"Are his Marshall and Everest okay with it?" Ryder asked me

"Yeah, Marshall said he was alright with it, and Ash said Everest was okay with it" I replied

"Are you sure Everest's okay with it? You said Ash said she was okay with it, but it may have just been him trying to get the confirmation of one parent than the other"

"Good point, I'll ask Everest"

"Okay then, and thanks for letting me know Chase" Ryder said to me with a smile

"No problem Ryder sir" I made my way towards my brothers room, scratching the door with the pads of my paw. "Everest, you there?"

"Yeah, give me a minute Chase!" I hear Everest say back. Soon, I heard her making her way towards the door before opening the door for me "What do you need Chase?"

"According to your son, he said that you said it was okay for me to take him to the shooting range to shoot guns, is this correct?"

"No, I never said that!" Ryder was right "What's got him interested in guns anyways?"

"I mean, he's still a young pup, and he's probably just getting curious"

"Well, I guess... *sigh* who else would be going with him? Just you?"

"Yeah, just me. I'll teach him gun safety and all that before he can even fire a gun if that's what your worried about"

"It's not just that, it's just, I don't like guns. I know it's the basic 'mom' thing, but it's true. Also, this isn't his first time shooting"

"I know and understand why you are worried," I said, remembering that night 2 months ago "but it's also a good idea to teach him about gun safety when he's curious, so when he gets older, he has the knowledge on the topic"

"Okay, I trust you Chase." I gave Everest a nod, but before I could leave, she said something else "Just make sure he doesn't shoot himself or anybody else"

"Don't worry, I'll make sure he doesn't kill anything" I replied, chuckling

I then made my way towards my room and went to my gun safe. In it was my Magnum, a Glock 17, and a M1911. I may be a detective, but sometimes even my Magnum isn't enough. I grabbed each gun and put them in their respective cases, and I grabbed some boxes of ammo that were also in the safe. I began to walk to my car with each gun and I put them in the trunk of the car, but before I left, I remembered something I should get just in case.

"I should bring my old pup-pack, since it has the ability to hold handguns" I made my way back into the Lookout and went into the Lookout's basement. It was big, so big it may as well be the size of a Costco building. I started to try and find my old pup-pack, but I couldn't find it. "Does Ash have it? He was wearing it on Halloween for his costume" I then made my way towards Ash's room to see if he was there. I knocked on his door before hearing his voice.

"Come in!" and Ash saw me in the doorway "Hi Uncle Chase, are you ready?"

"Not yet bud, I'm here to see if you still have my old pup-pack"

"Why do you need it? Don't you have a newer one?"

"Yeah I do, but that pup-pack is your size and you may need to use it if you can't stand on your hind legs long enough"

"Uhh, yeah, let me get it" He walked into his closet and came out a minute later "Here it is"

"Why do you still have it?"

"I just liked it, and well you're too big for it anyways, so I just kept it"

"Okay, well now I'm ready, are you?"

"Yeah!"

"Then let's go bud" We made our way to my car before driving off.

After about 20 minutes of driving, we got to a shooting range that had metal targets a couple of feet ahead of us. We both got out and I set the guns down on this table that was set up for us, and I put my sunglasses on and started recording. Something told me I wanted to record this. I decided to test Ash on his knowledge of gun safety. I opened up my M1911 case and I emptied the magazine, then I put the empty magazine in the gun, and I slid the slide back to make sure the gun was safe to hold. I put the safety on before I handed him the gun

"Alright Ash, before we shoot, I wanna see what you do with this gun" and I handed him the empty M1911. Immediately, I saw red flags. Ash had his finger on the trigger, he wasn't being careful when pointing the gun, and he didn't check if the gun had any bullets in the chamber or magazine. Before he could go any further, I took the gun away from him and I holstered the gun.

"Why did you take the gun away Uncle Chase?" Ash asked me disappointed

"Because what I just did was a test, and there is not way of putting this lightly, but you failed this test" I told him

"How? What did I do wrong?" Ash asked me

"For starters, you had your finger on the trigger. Next, you weren't watching where the gun was pointed, and you didn't check the magazine or the chamber to see if it was loaded or not." I said

"Oh, sorry"

"It's okay bud, you need to learn to respect the gun. And that's why we're here, so I can teach you" I said to him. I took out the gun from its holster and I began with lesson 1: Checking to see if the Gun is loaded.

"Alright Ash, before you are allowed to even use a gun, you need to know if the gun is loaded or not. To check if the gun is loaded or not, you want to put the safety on first. Depending on the gun, the safety will be somewhere else on the gun. In this case, the safety on this gun is here" and I pointed to the spot on the M1911 where the safety is "When it's up, the safety is on, when down, the safety is off." Ash was paying attention to where I was pointing. "The button on the left side of the gun is the Magazine Release, when you push it, the magazine comes out. Even if the magazine is out, you need to check the chamber of the gun to see if it has a round in the chamber. One thing you can do is pull the slide back all the way, and if there was a round in there, it'll pop out. Or you can pull on the slide a little bit, and if you see the casing of the bullet, then there's a bullet in the chamber."

"Okay, what else do I need to know?"

"Pointing a gun, also known as Muzzle Discipline. If the gun goes off, wherever it's pointing is where the bullet is gonna hit depending on the situation you're in." I told Ash "Whenever you hold a gun, imagine there is a line that comes from the muzzle out of the gun, and that line is where the bullet is gonna go"

"What about this situation?" Ash said waving his paw on our location

"Well the wind isn't that strong to move the bullet, so in this case, wherever the gun is pointed, it's gonna most likely hit the target it's pointing" I told Ash

"Well then where can I point it when I'm not shooting?" Ash asked me

"You're gonna point the gun either in the air or at the ground. This just makes it so if the gun does go off, it'll hit the ground or go in the air." I said to Ash "But even if your gun is pointing in the air or ground, you never, EVER, point the gun at somebody, even a small part of their body."

"Because if the gun goes off, it'll hit them?" Ash asked

"That's right, you never want to harm another being" I said "Before I hand you the gun again, you need to learn about 1 more thing. Trigger Discipline. Whenever you hold a gun, you never put your finger on the trigger unless you're ready to shoot. If you have your finger on the trigger and the gun is ready to shoot, you can accidentally pull the trigger too much and it'll go off. So you always put your firing finger on the side of the gun, or on the grip with the rest of your fingers. Got all that bud?"

"I think so, can I try holding the gun now Uncle Chase?" Ash asked me

"Yeah bud, let's see how much you paid attention" I said to Ash, giving him the gun. This time, he was doing everything I taught him correct. Soon came the question I was waiting for.

"Uncle Chase, can we shoot now?" Ash asked me

"Yeah, let me see the gun" I motioned to hand the gun back to me, and he did. I began to teach him how to load a gun.

"Now, depending on the gun, it'll have a different way of loading it, but this is a simple way of loading the gun. To load the magazine, you push the bullet into the front of the top of the magazine, and you push the bullet down, doing the same thing over and over till it's full. You try" I gave Ash the magazine and the box of bullets, and he started to load the magazine, needing help after the 3rd round due to the tension being too much for him.

I then put the magazine back in the gun, and gave it to him. Ash then remembered what he learned and checked the magazine and chamber to see if the gun was loaded. He looked at me and I nodded, then Ash set the gun down and put his earbuds in, then turned the safety off.

"Try hitting that target over there" I pointed to a big metal plate. He pulled the trigger, but the gun didn't go off. Ash looked at me for help

"Even though the gun has a loaded magazine, you need to pull the slide all the way back before it'll shoot." I said, to which he pulled the slide all the way back. After he put his earbuds back in, he pointed the gun to a target in the distance and pulled the trigger.

"*BANG!* *TING!*"

"Nice shot Ash! You hit the target!"

"I did? Is that what the ting sound means?" Ash looked at me with a smile on his muzzle, slowly pointing the gun downwards

"Yup, now be careful where you're pointing the gun" I said. Ash then emptied the rest of the rounds in the magazine, hitting the target 3 more times, and the rest hit the dirt. After he was empty, he set the gun back on the table that was in front of him "Not bad Ash, wanna try a different gun?"

"Yes please!" Ash said to me. I then handed my Magnum to him. He hesitantly took the gun, which is understandable considering... this wasn't his first time shooting a gun, but he took the gun in the end

"Now I know you used this before, but one thing that's different from the other gun you shot was how to reload it. It's the same concept, but you push this little button to the side, and push the cylinder out to the left. After that, you put the bullets into the slots, and to empty it, you push down on this little rod." I showed to Ash, who gave me a nod in understanding before pointing it at the target again, but had a little trouble pulling the trigger

"Ash, now one thing you can do on this gun and the other one you shot, is you can pull the hammer back to make it a lighter trigger pull" I then showed him the hammer, and he pulled it down till it made a click "Now the gun will go off much easier" Ash pointed downrange and fired the gun.

"*BAANG!* *PFF!*"

The kick made the gun go high in the air and Ash hit the dirt. I laughed at the recoil Ash just dealt with, hoping my glasses caught the moment

"How did that feel bud?"

"It hurt! I don't remember it hurting that bad!"

"Yeah, some guns are gonna be stronger than others, wanna keep shooting it?"

Ash looked at the gun before handing it to me "Not that one, the other one"

"The Glock? Alright"

We proceeded to shoot the guns for about another hour before we were down to the final 3 shots of my Magnum.

"Wanna finish off the targets with my Magnum Ash?"

"Ummm, yeah, I'm ready for it now"

"Alright, here you go bud" I handed him the Magnum and he pointed it down the range, but before he could shoot, I said something to him "How bout this bud, if you hit the target with the final 3 bullets, I'll give you $20"

"And if I don't?"

"You won't get the $20"

"Alright, challenge accepted"

He again pointed it down the range, pulled the hammer back, and pulled the trigger

"*BAANG!* *TING*"

"That's one" alright

"*BAANG!* *TING*"

"That's two" was I about to lose $20?

"Come on" I hear Ash whisper

"*BAANG!* *TING*"

Yup, I lost $20

"HA! Pay up Uncle Chase!"

"Alright alright, I'll give you the money when we get back home"

"I'll make sure you pay me!" Ash said, handing me my Magnum back

"Did you have fun Ash?" I asked him putting the guns back in their cases

"Yeah! It was really cool shooting them! Thanks for teaching me Uncle Chase" Ash said to me

"No problem Ash, let's go home"

When we got back, Ash's father was waiting for him at the front of the Lookout.

"How was it Ash?" Marshall said to his son

"It was fun! Uncle Chase taught me important things about using a gun, like how to see if it's loaded or not, be careful where to point, and to not have my finger on the trigger unless I'm ready to shoot!" Ash said

"Really? Well, you need to practice with your firefighter training Ash, so let's go okay?" Marshall said to his son

"Okay dad, I'll be waiting" Ash said before leaving me and Marshall together

"Thanks for taking him Chase, glad he had fun" Marshall said to me

"No problem brother, he learned a lot" I said to Marshall

"Did he shoot your Magnum?"

"Yeah he did, the kick was a bit much for him though, I'll send you the video of our time shooting"

Marshall chuckled at that response "alright, well now it's my turn to teach him, see ya brother"

"Bye brother" I said before going back to my room and putting my guns back into my safe.

And that's the first short story! I hope you liked it.

This story was inspired by, me. I had a similar situation like Ash did in this story, and I also wanted to write a short story.

Like I said in the beginning, I'm not a professional teacher when it comes to guns, so I may have left out important things when explaining the rules since I was just saying what I know about guns.

To leave y'all on another note, I have started writing another story! I have it all planned out, and know I just need to write it. While I won't tell you the plot of the story, I'll tell y'all the title. The title is this:

"A Rocky Past"

I don't know when I'll finish writing the story to upload it, but hopefully before the end of this month. On that note, see y'all later!
