-This is my first Power Rangers Story and my first story in a LONG time after being very sick for over 3 years. Fingers crossed you like it-
"Good Morning New Tech City, it's a beautiful day toda-" Before the words of the announcer could continue, manicured fingers hard reached out from the covers that they had been hiding in and turned the bedside alarm off with a soft click. Bringing the same hand back the person attached to it ran the fingers though her sleep tussled blonde curls that spilled around her, it was 6:30 am; the normal time that most of the rangers would start to wake up and get ready for the days duty. There was the acceptation of the yellow ranger whom she shared a room with, nothing could wake that girl up until the music started playing though her headphones, and luckily for this pink ranger she was never in the room to hear the music when it did start to play. Sitting herself up and stretching her arms outwards Sydney Drew groaned softly as she felt her body start to awaken from its peaceful slumber, her mind becoming clearer each passing moment as she pulled the covers back from her body and slid herself out of her warm bed. Running her hands over the pink sheets as she made her bed for the morning Syd smiled as she reached out for the stuffed elephant known as 'Peanuts' and placed him against the pile of neat pillows, sure Z liked to tease her about her connection to the plush toy but it was the only connection to her childhood, a time when things where so much simpler and her mind was full of dreams and fairytales; not Emperor Grumm and SPD. Not that she wasn't proud to be the pink ranger, it was just nice to know that there was still hope in the world, the innocent minds of the children they helped keep safe and the dreams that she kept locked away in her heart. Turning back to the bed on the other side of the room Syd just soon her head, the mass of curls on her head bounced slightly as she looked over at Z and the mess that was her side of the room, some things will never change it would seem. Gathering her uniform into her arms as well as her bathroom bag Syd left the shared room and made the quick journey down the hallway to the female cadet's bathroom to get ready for her day.
Smacking her lips together a few times to even out her lip gloss as her fingers ruffled her curls slightly the blonde power ranger smiled her megawatt smile as she zipped closed her bathroom bag, hearing the doors sliding open Sydney raised a well-shaped brow as she watched Z grumpily walk into the bathroom carrying her items with her. "All perked up and ready for the day Z?"
Syd already knew the type of answer she would get as she got it most mornings. There was a grunt and a few obscenities muttered as the door to one of the shower stalls slammed shut, Z was not a morning person. Giggling softly to herself as she left the bathrooms and returned to her room the blonde could hear the sound of two of her teammates talking as they started to walk down the hallway and into the large common room that was on the other side of hallway, opposite her door. "Bridge, I don't mind if you rig up your alarm but really? A toaster alarm?"
Sydney knew that voice very well, it was stern and by the book. The SPD handbook. Sky Tate. She also knew whom he was addressing as he walked into the rangers main living space. "What better way than to start the morning then with buttery toast waking you up?" Bridge waved his fingers in front of his mouth as he walked over to the food synthesizer and pressed a few buttons before a plate of hot buttery toast materialised.
Having put her items away Syd walked out of her room, allowing the doors to close behind her as she crossed the hallway into the common room and over to the table she had breakfast at every morning. "Did you really think Bridge would rig up his alarm any other way Sky?" Waking behind the blue ranger, Syd found herself in front of the food synthesizer trying to find something that grabbed her attention, her fingers working the buttons as she lightly chewed the inside of her cheek. A new habit she had started whenever she was near her blue teammate.
"See Sky, Syd thinks it's a good idea" Upon hearing her name Syd turned her head slightly for a moment. "Uh Bridge, I didn't actually say that" The bubbly blonde walked over to the table and placed her tray of oatmeal and strawberries down before taking a seat next to Sky, like she did most mornings. Looking down at her food Syd wrinkled her nose in distaste as she found she had been given orange Juice instead of apple, taking a look at the two other trays on the table Syd spied what she was looking for and quickly reached her hand over to tray next to hers and swapped the unopened drinks without a word of protest from the man in blue whose drink she had taken, she did fail to see the slight smile appear on the man's normally straight face as she started to dig into her breakfast.
Light blue eyes looked up from the food as now four of the five rangers had entered the common room, the thing that was different was while the other three rangers in the room where dressed in their uniform this one was still in their pyjamas, dreadlocks askew and clearly still sleep ridden. With Bridge only shaking his head towards his friend, Sydney knew the comment of the word "Typical" had to have come from the blue ranger, even though he had somewhat let go of losing the role of red ranger to this man, there was still some friction lingering. Seeing a plate of pancakes be placed across from her, Syd knew that she shouldn't have expected anything less, life was made up of all different types of beings and life would be boring if everyone was the same. As the last of the team entered the room for breakfast, the peaceful routine that they had all settled in was broken by the flash of red lights and the sound of Dr Kat Manx's voice echoed over the speakers.
"Rangers to the command center" All hearing the voice there was a slight pause as the rangers exchanged a slightly worried look before four of them abandoned their meals as they ran out of the room and down the hallway to the command center, Syd being the only one able to hear Z's mutter about not even having breakfast before duty.
"Rangers, there is a disturbance in the 3rd sector" All five rangers stood around the command center, hands resting behind their backs as the large blue dog known as Commander Kruger debriefed his rangers from behind his desk as from the middle of the room Dr Manx stood at the controls until a holograph of a monster projected itself from the center of the control panel. A large monster covered in orange scales presented itself as Dr Manx started to talk. "This is Jaxalor, he's mainly known for small crimes, loitering, petty theft, never anything of this scale" Kat looked a little worried as she observed the monster that was currently being destructive, smashing apart shipping containers, ripping them apart and throwing the fragments towards the terrified dock workers as they scattered in fear from the beast. "Be careful Rangers, something about this screams Emperor Grumm"
"Ready?"
"Ready. SPD EMERGANCY"
Coming onto the docks the rangers where meet with nothing but the sight of twisted metal that use to be shipping containers littered over the docks but as of yet there was no sign of Jaxalor and it would be hard to miss a 12ft tall monster with orange scales, "Whoa, looks like this place looks more like a scrap yard" Leaning towards Syd as she spoke, Z knelt down beside a large sheet of metal and looked at the now deserted yard noting that there was no litter from whatever the container had been holding. This confused the rangers somewhat as the containers that had been opened had been empty to begin with according to the manifest list on the door off the office.
"Keep an eye out, Kat said this is a strange one" Taking leadership the red ranger stepped forward, his eyes scanning for any signs of movement within the scrapped dock yard, it would take them forever if they searched as a team; they needed to split into small teams to cover more ground. "Bridge, Z, you come with me and we'll go along this side" Pointing to the right for a second Jack wondered why Jaxalor would capture the attention of the Rangers, and then suddenly vanish before they arrived. The monster was begging for the Rangers to come and battle him and yet the docks now seemed to be empty about from the rangers.
"Sky, you and Syd go left and report back if you find ANYTHING! No playing the hero by yourself" By the tone in Jack's voice towards Sky it hinted that he had heard the comment that had been made at breakfast. Heading off in the directions they had been ordered in the team of five spilt into groups into the maze of shipping containers, both whole and destroyed.
Keeping their morphs up for added protection Sky and Syd walked side by side silently, surveying the area and keeping a keep watch for anything out of the ordinary. "You know this makes no sense, a small time crim, who has already done his time comes out to a dock with mostly empty containers and rips them apart, basically begging for us to show up, we do and he's a now show"
Looking into one of the containers the pink ranger couldn't make clear of the matter at hand, there was nothing else going on in the city so it wasn't a distraction, tapping her fingers against the metal as she walked away the ranger had failed to see that in the darkest corner of the container, hanging upside down was a bat like creature watching as the rangers walked away. Broodwing.
"Don't you worry pinky, it will all become very clear to you soon" Waiting until the pink and blue rangers were looking for any clues by a pile of scrap Broodwing opened his wings and flew out of the container and up into the rafters of the loading crane, where he had the perfect view of what was about to happen.
"If it really is Grumm we're dealing with here then he's not going to make it easy Syd, but I have to agree with you, it doesn't make sense" Dropping some scrap he had been holding Sky moved his hand to his belt as his morpher beeped a few times, his fingers answering the device as he moved it towards his helmet. "Tate"
"You guys found anything yet?" Hearing Bridge's voice though the morpher Sky could only assume that by the lack of enthusiasm in his voice that they hadn't come over anything ether.
"Not yet Bridge, guessing you guys have turned up nothing" Looking over towards the ranger he had been paired with Sky smiled slightly under the save view of his helmet visor where no one could see his expression, Jack seemed to think pairing him with Syd would be a chore, but it was just the opposite. Sydney was an accomplished ranger, proud of her colour and of her work and someone who he had been harbouring feelings for as long as he had been a SPD cadet, if it wasn't for the rules…..
Sky's attention was brought back to the morpher as Bridge called his name a few times. "Will report if we find anything, Tate out" Putting his morpher back the blue ranger looked up as something caught the corner of his eyes, a small black creature against one of the cranes, looking at it for a moment Sky dismissed the creature as just a bird and given that they were in the docks it wasn't odd to see such an animal around here. "It seems the others have had just as much luck as we have finding Jaxalor" Sighing as it puzzled him why the monster would just vanish Sky walked towards his female teammate.
In the time he had been zoned out Syd had taken the chance to investigate a rather large pile of twisted metal that for a second she thought had moved, almost as if someone was underneath it. Carefully crouching down and reaching her hand out to shift some of the wreckage Syd was caught by surprise as from under the twisted scrap a long scaly orange arm reached out. Encased in the hand of monster was a small circular device that glowed green that caught the rangers attention even more, before she was able to react the pink ranger covered her head with her arms as a green bright light shot from the item in Jaxalors hand. The bright light sending the Power Ranger back with great force, so much so that Syd wasn't able to hold her morph any longer as a blinding pain rocketed though her mind and body for a moment before she landed roughly against ground. Rolling a few times before she came to a stop, now in her uniform Sydney lay still, her head tipped slightly to the side.
"SYD!"
-Well, thats the first chapter done and dusted. What do you think?-
