A/N: My first ever fic! I have no beta so excuse me for grammar and spelling mistakes.
This fic started when i noticed the lack of Kirito x Sinon in sao fics. And since its my fav i thought I'd put my own entry in. This takes place in the time between Mother's Rosario and Alicization. And honestly I'm just pretending Alicization doesn't exist since it would be hard to write through. P.S. I have not read the light novels or the manga. Nor have I played the games. Everything in this fic is from the anime, my brain, and what small info i've picked up from the wiki
Beta: No One Yet
The obsidian blade cleaved through the monster, splitting it in two. Kirito stepped back with a sigh, watching the dead creature break apart into crystals of light. The dungeon they were in was a small one, dark and gloomy as Kirito's mood. It had been a long day for him, visiting universities and then dealing with Asuna's insistence that he meet her mother, and her disappointment upon his reluctance.
He glanced over to her, as she was fighting two Lizardmen. Her blade moved faster than a lightning bolt, stabbing through both within seconds. Kirito smiled and glanced over to the rest of their party. Liz was rescuing Silica from a tentacle monster (that wasn't even supposed to be there?), Klein was holding his own against a few of them, and Leafa was being pushed back by one.
Kirito was ready to jump in and help when a streak of silver shot through the monster's head, killing it instantly. He looked up and saw the last member of their group, Sinon, perched on top of a pillar. He gave a small salute before jumping back into the fray, relieving Asuna of an opponent.
"Oh come on! All we got was a crappy staff!" The group was walking back as Klein complained loudly, making Sinon wish she could shoot him for once.
"But hey, at least we got some good Yrd out of it!" Kirito said, swinging a large coin pouch over his shoulder. Though pouch is the wrong word. Sinon thought More like sack.
"Eh, I guess you're right. Although I'm still gonna need more if I wanna impress the ladies" Klein opened the door to the cabin as he spoke, Ignoring the unimpressed look Kirito and the others gave him. "Still it would have been nice to get something we could use."
"Yeah I hear you, but hey it definitely helped as stress relief" Kirito sagged onto a chair as everyone piled in and onto their own seats.
"Hey yeah what's up with that? you've been tense all day" Sinon asked, a look of concern washing over her face. Kirito glanced at her with a sigh.
"its nothing to bad. just universities and all. no need for concern" he leaned back with another, more content, sigh drifting slowly to sleep as everyone started talking around him. one pair of eyes stayed glued to him however, and as everyone else made their goodbyes, Sinon stayed behind.
The sword came down. Kirito stared at it, his fate all but certain. he was so focused on the blade he failed to notice the figure moving in front. The sword tore through Asuna's armour like paper, cutting deep. Kirito stared in shock as instead of a grid like wound, blood came pouring forth.
"As...Asuna?" He could barely move his lips to say her name. She leaned up, coughing blood before speaking
"All your fault" she whispered before going limp in his arms blood covering him as he rose
"Well that was unexpected" the commander said. "Lets see what the others think"
Kirito turned in both question and rage before stopping in his tracks. All his friends stared at him, dead. He shook his head in denial.
"All your fault. All your fault." they chanted, standing and stumbling towards him. Their eye sockets were empty, blood pouring from their mouths. "All your fault. All your fault. Allyourfault!" they chanted faster running at him. He backed up in fear, one step becoming two, before he was in full sprint. As he began to run he heard his name being called desperately. He couldn't turn to look. He had to keep running. He had to esc-
"Kirito!"
He awoke with a start, sitting fully up and breathing hard. The room was dark but he could see a figure sitting across from him.
"Sinon?" She looked concerned, one hand touching his.
"Kirito, are you ok? you were breathing heavy, and you didn't wake up even when I yelled your name!" She was barely sitting at this point, unsure whether to sit down or hug him.
"Y-yeah I'm fine" he said unconvincingly. "Did the others leave? Why are you here then?"
"You were stressed after the raid. I wanted to check on you when the others weren't around" she had a light blush as she spoke, not visible in the dark light. "I turned the lights off to let you sleep but then you started panicking. Were you having a nightmare?"
"N-no nothing like that! Just sleeping wrong I guess. Nothing to get worked up over, honest" He said nervously, hoping to avoid spilling his fears to her. Sinon wasn't convinced in the slightest, but she didn't wanna push a topic he wasn't comfortable.
"Kirito, I know you lying" he started to speak but she pushed a finger to his lips. "I know you're lying but its ok. If you dont wanna talk about it don't" Kirito visibly relaxed when he new she wasn't gonna push. Sinon then stood up and put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "But if you do need to talk, you know I'm here right?" He also stood giving her a small smile
"Yeah. If its something I can't handle I'll tell you. Promise" Sinon returned the smile before moving to her seat and logging off. As soon as she was gone Kirito's smile disappeared, and his mood with it
