Deku jumps like a plumber.
Jumpman Deku
Tsuyu hadn't expected robots, but they weren't too much of an issue for her. Her powerful legs and versatile tongue was getting her a fair amount of points. She was confident in her legs, their froggy form ensuring that she jump good.
After crushing the head of a one pointer, Tsuyu landed in a crouch, her tongue poking from her mouth. Holding a finger to her face, she looked around for more robots. There, a two pointer was just coming around the corner. She flexed her leg muscles, ready to leap.
She let out a startled croak as someone landed on top of the robot, crushing it into scrap metal. The landing caused a cloud of dust to kick up, obscuring them from view. This proved to not be an issue, however, as a figure leapt out of the smoke.
Tsuyu's already wide eyes widened further as she took him in. Flying through the air was a boy with messy green hair. It fluttered in the wind as he went. He was in a curious pose, one arm raised, the other pointing down, one leg out before him, and the other curved behind.
She followed him as he flew over her, and she watched as he landed atop another robot that had been sneaking up on her. She croaked again, not having even noticed the three pointer behind her.
"A-Are you okay?" The boy asked, doing a small hop off the debris he'd caused.
"I'm fine, kero," she said, looking him in the eyes. His eyes were the same colour as his hair, and he had four freckles in a diamond formation. She took this all in with her signature blank look. "Your jump is impressive."
"O-Oh, thank you," he said, rubbing the back of his head. "Um, well, I better get a move on. Good luck with the exam."
"You too, kero." Is all she had time to say before he was jumping away, with a loud "YAHOO!" Curious, but she had no right to judge anyone on their speech patterns. Glancing at the shattered bot, she decided to get a move on. She still had time.
It wasn't long after that meeting that the ground started to rumble. Tsuyu croaked weakly as the massive Zero Pointer loomed over the fake city they were in. She prepared to jump away, but before she could a chunk of debris landed on her left leg.
She landed on her front, biting her tongue in shock. She whimpered in pain, a shuddering croak leaving her without permission. "H-Helf!" She croaked, twin trickles of blood rolling down her chin. "HELF!" Her tongue injury was getting in the way of her speech. Even if anyone heard her, would they know what she was saying.
"WOO!"
Tsuyu blinked. What was that? Looking up, she saw that same green boy from earlier landing on the ground.
"EEYAH!"
He jumped again, arms down by his side as his body curved forwards. This time he jumped even higher than when he crushed the two-pointer from before. Landing, he jumped a third time, he's arms raised in the air, his fists clenched.
"YA-HOOOOOOO!"
Tsuyu squinted her eyes at the gust of wind his final jump created, her hair blowing in her face. Following him as best she could, she watched him fly up, even doing a flip as he went even higher than the Zero Pointer.
Tsuyu's eyes were in danger of falling out as her eyelids blew wide open. She watched as the boy landed atop of the Zero Pointer's head. A ear wrenching sound echoed through the entire battle centre as the Zero Pointer's torso was utterly crushed. The goliath fell backwards, and she caught sight of the boy backflipping away.
Landing next to her, he ran over, a slight limp evident in his hurried movements. "A-Are you okay? A-Ah, you're bleeding!"
All Tsuyu could say, as the voice of Present Mic announced the end of the exam, was, "Kero?"
Tsuyu had made it into UA, despite her brush with disaster with the Zero Pointer. Speaking of, she'd never gotten the name of the boy who saved her. He'd rushed away after asking Recovery Girl if she'd be okay.
The boy had been in her thoughts a lot since. It was only natural. He displayed incredible physical ability with his Quirk - for it had to be his Quirk - and had saved her from being crushed by a robot. Well, maybe not crushed by the robot itself. She doubted UA would let such a thing happen to an examinee.
...She really hoped they wouldn't.
Still, it was the first day and she was thrilled to see none other than the green jumping boy standing in the doorway. He was talking to a boy she recognised as the uptight entrant who called Present Mic out during the exam briefing.
"It's you, kero."
"H-Huh? Oh, hello! Are you okay?"
Tsuyu opened her mouth to answer.
"If you're here to socialise, get out."
Tsuyu closed her mouth.
Turns out, their teacher is a grumpy git and made them do a Quirk Apprehension test, and the person who came last would be expelled.
So, no pressure then.
In the first event, Tsuyu got a solid 5.58 seconds with her frog leaps. She was looking forward to seeing what green boy would get.
She got her answer when he went up against the loud boy who got over 700 metres on the ball throw. While the explosion boy blasted his way across, Green did it in a single jump. After a small run up he crouched, then leapt all the way across, throwing limbs out before him, which seemed to propel him forward.
"WEEHOO!" He cried, and as soon as he landed he went bright red.
"Ya damn Deku!" The exploding boy - Bakugo, if she remembered right - stormed up to him as soon as he finished. His brow was twitched enough to almost make Tsuyu worry about his blood pressure. "You dare beat me with your shitty quirk!?"
Deku - need to confirm, doesn't sound very friendly - just shook for a moment. "W-Well, my quirk is suited for this kind of thing…"
Bakugo glared for a moment, before scoffing and stomping away. "Stupid Mario knockoff…"
Seemed like they had a history. Tsuyu had an idea of what it might be. She might not end up liking Bakugo very much.
Throughout the rest of the test, Tsuyu almost felt overshadowed by Midoriya - as she soon learnt he was called - by way of him doing almost everything she could do, but better. She couldn't hold it against him, however. She was positive she was better in the water than he was. Plus he didn't have a tongue like hers.
(She was pretty content with her quirk, overall. Her removable stomach and the mucus might be a bit gross, but they weren't often relevant enough to be important.)
Throughout the entire test, whenever he used his quirk he would exclaim and yell and woop. It got to the point that their teacher told him off, until Midoriya explained that it was a side effect of his quirk. A strange and interesting side effect, in equal measure. Again, not like she could talk.
When they got their results, she got 14th place, while Midoriya got a respectable 10 place. The short boy who'd been eying the girls up all morning had burst into tears upon seeing he was 20th, but Aizawa-sensei said it was all just a logical ruse.
She wondered if he'd waited until Mineta started bawling before saying that. She didn't say that, however. Even her honestly had its limits. He might expel her.
Later as they were all heading home for the day, she spotted Midoriya talking to Iida, the blue haired boy who had chewed Midoriya out before. She decided to properly introduce herself.
"Midoriya-chan."
"Eh? O-Oh, erm, Asui-san, wasn't it?" He rubbed the back of his head.
"Greetings, Asui-san!" Iida said, chopping his hands.
"Iida-chan," she nodded, and looked back to Midoriya. "Call me Tsu, Midoriya-chan. "
"H-Huh!?" He turned red, his eyes widening.
"You too, Iida-chan."
"I-I could never! We've only just been acquainted!" Iida blustered.
"Y-Yeah, exactly!"
Tsuyu wasn't happy about it, but she could accept it from Iida, he seemed pretty stuck up. However, "I insist, Midoriya-chan."
His cheeks went redder, and Tsuyu couldn't help but find it cute. "I-If you're sure...T-Tsu...san."
She croaked. "That'll do for now. You're pretty nervous aren't you, Midoriya-chan?" He rubbed the back of his head. She'd love to walk with her new classmates/friends, however. "I need to get going, I have to look after my siblings."
"Oh, o-of course," Midoriya said, his face finally returning to a more normal colour. "Um, s-see you tomorrow, Asui-san."
"Tsu," she said, before power walking away. She'd already spent too long here, and Samidare got antsy if he had to wait too long. And an antsy Samidare wasn't fun for anyone.
Still, she'd have liked to talk to Midoriya a bit more.
Day two of UA was like any other school day, just with Pro Heroes as their teachers. Still, the real difference was the hero training. Taught by All Might of all people. He was even in his silver age outfit!
A battle trial, based around a very American scenario involving a nuclear bomb. She'd been paired up with Midoriya against Iida and Bakugo as the heroes and villains respectively.
"Midoriya-chan," she said, during their planning time. She almost asked about his relationship with Bakugo, but this wasn't the time. "Do you have any ideas?"
Midoriya swallowed any visible concerns he might have and looked at the building. A sharp focus entered his eyes that she had yet to see. "Well, both of our quirks are useful for verticality, that much was made obvious in the apprehension test yesterday. Iida would be at a disadvantage in the narrow corridors and corners thanks to his speed and that'swithoutincludinghowKacchanwoudbehave-"
"Midoriya-chan, you're mumbling."
"Ah! S-Sorry, As- er, Tsu-san. Erm, basically, I think Iida will stay with the bomb while Kacchan looks for us. He probably won't even ask for Iida's input and go by himself, leaving Iida with the bomb. But I also think that Iida would want to stay with the bomb, regardless. So, erm, I think we should use our quirks and get to the roof and make our way down. Hopefully we should be able to avoid Kacchan and team up on Iida."
Tsuyu thought about it for a moment. "It's a bit basic, but I think it's a good plan, kero. But why do you think Bakugo-chan would be so eager to head out?"
Midoriya grimaced. She decided she didn't like that look on him. "Kacchan...he doesn't like me at all. He sees my quirk as weak and I think he's insulted that I'd try to compete with him despite being...well, anyway, I'm 95% positive that he'll go looking for me."
"Kero, if you say so."
"PREPARATION TIME IS UP! HEROES, BEGIN YOUR OPERATION!"
Looking at each other, the two nodded and headed for the alley next to the building. Tsuyu prepared to climb up, but she stopped to watch Midoriya as he jumped. He landed on the wall, and immediately pushed off and upwards to the opposite wall. He did this several times, letting out strangled "WOOS" and "HUPS" as he tried to control his quirks side effect.
Shaking off her daze, she quickly ascended the wall after him.
Fortunately, Midoriya's prediction had been correct. They ambushed Iida, and by the time Bakugo had made it back to the bomb room, they'd managed to out maneuver Iida, and Tsuyu touched the bomb with her tongue. All Might decided that counted as their victory, and that was that.
Tsuyu was the MVP, and she was very pleased with herself, but Midoriya had also received credit for his plan and how he surprised Iida by jumping over him. Iida also got praise for how he stayed with the objective and did his best to handle two opponents at once.
Bakugo got criticized for his brash action of leaving Iida alone and letting his personal issues get in the way of the exercise. The explosion boy had spent the rest of the lesson in a raging sulk in the corner.
Tsuyu and Midoriya shared a happy look, pleased with their success. She even heard Midoriya let out a quiet "yahoo" as he did a small fist pump.
He was too cute. She told him as much. He went bright red.
It was a good day.
