Chapter one:

'This couldn't be happening' is his first thought after the doctor told him the news.

'We never even talked about this' is his second thought as the doctor continued to talk about the next steps he should take. He did not have the ability to process what the doctor was saying, but he could make out the words "OB/GYN", "pregnant", and "alpha" in the doctor's sentence fragments. It made his head hurt a bit too much for his own good. "I need you to stay calm. The pregnancy test is positive, so your next step will be to decide whether you want to tell someone about this development." The doctor says. Her tone was steady but slightly worried. She was trying to remain professional in front of her patient, but it must have been difficult seeing that he looked like he had just been informed that the sky had fallen.

"Is that all?" He asks, trying desperately to sound confident. Meanwhile, his inner thoughts were running rampant.

'Shit!' What was he going to tell his alpha, Aomine?' They had never really even discussed the idea of having kids other than the random offhand comments about what would happen when they retired from basketball. They had only graduated from college less than two years ago. He wasn't even twenty-five yet. Having kids wasn't even on his thought radar. He was still playing professional basketball for pete's sake. Hell, they aren't even bonded yet! Kagami still lives in an apartment with Kuroko, across the city from Aomine!

"Now, Mr. Kagami, I understand that you are not bonded. Do you know who the father is, correct?" The doctor asked making eye contact with her patient.

'Oh shit, she's judging me now,' Kagami thinks to himself as he answers the doctor. "Yes… I do," he answers meekly as he breaks eye contact and focuses on the tiles of the floor. This is just going to create another problem for him. Having kids young is one thing, having sex before you share a bond is one thing, but to get pregnant without being bonded?! He didn't think this was possible!

As all of these thoughts were consuming and bouncing around his mind his doctor finished her rambling, the speech he gave to all of his patients who find out they are pregnant. The next thing Kagami notices is the doctor standing up, which breaks him out of his thoughts.

"Alright Mr. Kagami," the doctor finishes up her visit with her patient as she sets a sheet of paper on the exam bed. "Here is a list of OB/GYN's I often recommend to my patients, I highly suggest you set up an appointment with one as soon as possible. Also, I have included a prescription for prenatal vitamins that should hold you over until a visit with an Ob/GYN. And please, make sure you tell the father before it is too late," The doctor finishes as she stands to leave the room. "Do you have any questions before I go?" She asks her patient.

"Uh… no," Kagami says as he breaks out of the daze his mind had entered. "No questions… for now." 'I didn't hear anything she said.'

"Good, and congratulations!" The doctor says as she leaves the examination room.

About ten minutes later Kagami finds himself slowly walking out of the medical clinic. The thought of what the bombshell the doctor had dropped on him as well as how he could tell Aomine continue to bounce crazily around his head.

He then notices as his friend, Kuroko, stands up from the waiting room chair to come up to him. 'Oh yeah, he was concerned about me this morning and forced me to come here,' Kagami thinks as he recalls not wanting to come here this morning. 'Maybe if he didn't drag me here, none of this would be real.'

Everything had started three weeks ago, Kagami had started getting sick and throwing up right after he woke up each morning. For the first week or so, his roommate Kuroko had been concerned. But Kagami had played it off, saying that as soon as he got it out of his system he was fine. And that was true, he had felt completely fine afterward. Besides, training for the new season was about to start, and he did not want to miss any playing time.

Then going into the second week, what he thought to be a weird stomach bug had started to wake him up in the middle of the night. Multiple times each night he would wake up needing to puke. Kuroko caught on on the second night and had been strongly urging him to go visit a doctor, but by the time the sun came up, Kagami felt fine. There was no need.

That was until this morning, the middle of the third week, and his stomach was still feeling bad well into the morning, to the point he couldn't eat anything for breakfast, and the smell of the natto Kuroko was eating had him running for the bathroom. At that point, Kuroko had demanded, not ask that he go to a doctor, and dragged him to this medical clinic himself.

"Are you feeling alright, Kagami?" The blue-headed omega asks his red-haired roommate as he approached from the opposite side of the waiting room. Said roommate was still operating in a daze, thoughts consumed by what the doctor had told him. "Did they figure out why you keep getting sick?" he asks concerned for his long-time friend.

"Oh, Kuroko," Kagami says as he just notices his roommate standing next to him. "Yeah, you could say that," he begins as he starts walking towards the exit of the clinic and out of the door. "I'll tell you when we get home," he finishes his thought.

"Home?" Kuroko asks. "But don't you have practice this afternoon?"

Kagami turns around to see that Kuroko had began to follow him to their shared apartment. "I don't think it's a good idea for today," he says. It's not that he can't play, because he wants to do nothing more than play basketball and get all of these thoughts out of his head. But going to practice meant seeing Aomine. And seeing Aomine… he doesn't know how he is going to explain any of this to the alpha.

"I told you you were sick," Kuroko adds quietly as they both begin walking back home.

As soon as they walk through the front door of the apartment, Kagami faces plants onto the couch conviently located right next to the door and lets a long suffering sigh escape his lips.

It's been years since he has had to endure this much mental stress and exhaustion, but still it comes back to haunt him. He doesn't even try to pretend that everything is okay when really, he just wants to go to sleep, maybe sleeping will make everything that happened this morning go away.

"Kagami, at least take your shoes off," Kuroko says as he does so and walks further into the apartment. As he rounds the corner to go into the kitchen he looks back and sees that Kagami has yet to move from his position. "Do you feel that sick?" He quietly asks his roommate.

"I'm not sick, Kuroko," Kagami says as he turns his head to face Kuroko, he then begins to slowly move to sit up and take off his shoes, placing them next to the doorway. He then notices the papers his doctor had given him, which were now resting on his lap. The list of pregnancy doctors and pamphlets on what to expect and advice for expecting mothers.

"You sure aren't acting like someone who isn't sick," Kuroko says as he takes a detour from the kitchen back over to where Kagami is sitting. "Since when do you skip basketball practice?" He quietly asks to himself as he curiously looks at the papers sitting on Kagami's lap. They catch his eye, and he notices that they contain a list of doctors, specifically… "is this a list of OB/GYNs?" He asks, looking at Kagami.

Kagami doesn't answer and refuses to look at the blue-haired man. He continues to stare at a spot across their small living room.

"Are you pregnant?" Kuroko asks his friend who he had known since his freshman year of high school. If he was, this explains why he didn't want to go to basketball practice today, he probably didn't know what or how to tell Aomine of the news.

Said friend responds by staying silent while sinking deeper into the cushions of the couch he was sitting on.

"I'll take this as a yes then," Kuroko says, taking a seat on the couch next to his roommate.

"You can't tell Aomine!" Kagami finally responds by jumping up and grabbing his roommate's shoulders. "No matter what, you can't tell him Kuroko!"

"What do you mean I can't tell him?" Kuroko asks, knowing how big of an idiot his roommate can be when it comes to important things such as this. "He comes here almost everyday, you're dating him, he's going to find out eventually."

"I'll… I'll… figure something out eventually," Kagami says feeling stressed. "Just promise me you won't tell him Kuroko," he begs.

Kuroko says looking at his roommate. He might be a genius while playing basketball, but in all other areas of life he is definitely not. "I won't tell him… for now," Kuroko eventually says, knowing Kagami won't let go of his hold until he promises this. "But you have to tell him eventually, you know."

"I… I know," Kagami says as he lets go of his hold. "Just… just give me a couple days!"

"And what about basketball?" Kuroko asks him about his job. Preseason training had only just started, and with the next season coming up soon, there was no way Kagami would be able to continue playing realistically.

"I'll do something about that too!" Kagami responds, knowing that currently that was one of his least pressing worries. And that was saying a lot, considering how basketball obsessed he was. But at this instant, he was much more concerned about the way Aomine was going to respond to the news. He was concerned because… he had no idea how his alpha boyfriend was going to respond.

"You have until the end of this week," Kuroko says turning away from Kagami and going back to what he was originally going to do in the kitchen. He knows that if he didn't give the other man a deadline, he wouldn't tell his boyfriend until as late as possible, and this is definitely something that can't stay a secret for that long. 'At the end of this week, I'll force the two idiots to sit down and talk about this.'

Hours later, as Kuroko was cooking dinner for himself and Kagami was doing who knows what (probably a mix of freaking out and hiding from the world) in his room, Kuroko hears a knock coming from the front door. It sounds frantic, and Kuroko knows that it can only be one person. He goes to open it to find his roommate's boyfriend, Aomine standing on the other side.

"Ah, Testu!" The navy-headed alpha greets him. Looking at the man, Kuroko can tell he is worked up and seems to be worried about something, most likely his idiot of a boyfriend. "Do you know where Kagami is?! He wasn't at practice today! He never misses practice! I've been trying to call his phone, but he's not picking up!"

'Ah, yes,' Kuroko says, knowing Kagami would have been avoiding Aomine after the news he received earlier today. "He's in his room," the blue-haired man replies to the alpha as he turns around to return to the kitchen to finish making his dinner.

"Kagami!" Aomine proceeds to shout as he takes the unasked for invitation to run through the small apartment to reach his boyfriend's bedroom. "Where were you today?!" Kuroko hears the man shout.
