Prologue

The War of the Best. One of the biggest battles that changed the Pirate World forever. No one could've predicted this outcome, not even the marines. Whitebeard, a yonko, had to save his 'son' Ace from being executed. He had his own fleet come to rescue Ace, even his brother, Monkey D. Luffy, and the escaped prisoners from Impel Down. They gave everything to save Ace, even Whitebeard. He considered Ace his family, and nobody messed with his family. There was just one problem though.

Portgas D. Ace was dying, and he knew it was all his fault. As Whitebeard continued to rampage and keep the Marines at bay, the frozen Jozu is carried aboard the ship by his fellow crewmates. Ivankov tells Luffy it is time to go, while the Straw Hat tries to get Ace to escape with him - Ace acknowledges that to escape is necessary, but before he does, he bows to Whitebeard in the midst of the chaos. Seeing this, Whitebeard asks if he was a good father, to which Ace answers "of course". Whitebeard laughs heartily at the response. The rest of the pirates prepare to escape, but suddenly Akainu attacks them with a huge molten fist. He mocks Whitebeard's crew as "cowards" for grabbing Ace and running away, and claims Whitebeard is nothing but a failure from a bygone era.

This strikes a chord with Ace who turns to face and demands that Akainu take back what he said. The Pirate Captains and Luffy yell at Ace not to stop. Akainu continues to insult Whitebeard, claiming that since Whitebeard never defeated Roger nor became the Pirate King, he is a failure. The rest of the pirates urge Ace not to get provoked by the admiral, but Akainu's continuing mockery eventually set off Ace's temper. He attacks Akainu in fury, proclaiming that "The name of this era is called 'Whitebeard'!" However, he is badly burned on his left hand and knocked back, as Akainu's power is that of magma and, even though both he and Ace use logia fire types, magma can burn anything, even fire.

Luffy attempts to rush back to Ace's aid but falls to his knees, dropping Ace's vivre card in the process. Jinbe notes that Luffy is at his limit. However, this shifts Akainu's attention to Luffy, and he turns away from Ace to attack the younger brother. Ace, seeing that Akainu means to attack the defenseless Luffy, suddenly leaps in the way and takes the blow. Akainu's molten blow pierces Ace's entire torso as his organs being painfully melted. Luffy and Whitebeard's pirates look on in horror while Ace's Vivre Card burns to a scrap of paper.

"ACE!" His allies and Luffy yelled out.

Ace had blood coming out of his mouth as he took the attack. 'So this how I die huh..?' Despite everything, he smiled. Although, that smiled masked his pain and sorrow. He looked everywhere and couldn't help but shed some tears. 'Because of me...My crew is dying, Oars is dead, even Pops will hit his limit...But most importantly...I'll never see Luffy again...' Thought Ace in sadness.

He goes on to remember how every person he met hated Gol D. Roger and detested the idea of his living son, and if it were not for Luffy and the "Sabo thing", he would never have wanted to live. Ace then requests that if Luffy ever meets Dadan again, to tell "that idiot" goodbye for him. His only regret is that he will never get to see Luffy's dream come true, though it undoubtedly will. He comments that he has no regrets about the path he chose in life; all he really wanted was to know was the answer to one question: whether or not he should have been born. Sensing his voice is getting too quiet, he then calls out to his comrades and says his final words:

"Old Man...! Everyone...! And...you, Luffy...Even though I'm so worthless...Even though I ...carry the blood of a demon ...Thank you...for loving me!"

After that, the man known as Portgas D. Ace, son of Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Rouge, passed away that day. Because he's a Devil Fruit user, his Devil Fruit will be reborn somewhere else and wait until the next person eats the fruit.

"Manny! There you are! I have to show you something cool!" Called out a blue haired girl. She was talking to a boy with a scar on his face. They were both at the park. "What is the big deal Frida?" Manny asked in a solemn tone. Frida giggled as she had something behind her back. "So yesterday, I was out fishing for treasure!" "Why were you fishing treasure?" "Duh! So I can buy all the churros I want!" 'Mmmmm...Churros...' The girl was drooling. "FRIDA!" "AH! Right! Anyway, it took me 3 hours...mostly because I didn't know the first thing about fishing!" Manny sweat drops. "I almost decided to call it quits when I hooked something." This perked up Manny. "WAS IT ACTUAL TREASURE?!" Manny asked with dollar signs for eyes.

Frida smiled a bit. "Hahahahaha...no." The dollar signs ripped in half. "Then what did you fish?" "THIS!" Frida showed Manny what she fished and to him, it was the weirdest fruit ever. It looked like a round orange fruit, composed of many flame-shaped components with swirl patterns on each one, and has a swirled stem on the top. Manny blinked once and twice. "Seriously, this is thing you were excited to show me? Who the hell would care about some fruit?!"

Frida looked offended. "Hey! I like to see you spend three hours on a Saturday trying to fish up treasure! Besides...It looks cool! Here have a look at it!" Frida gave the fruit to Manny. Frida turned away. "Maybe we can blend it into a smoothie, or sell it for money, or throw it at Zoe Averez for humiliating at the school science fair! Yeah...What do you think Manny?" Frida heard a chomping sound and turned to find Manny eating the fruit and swallowing it whole. "MANNY!" Frida yelled while popping her eyes out. "WHY WOULD EAT THE FRUIT I WASTED MY SATURDAY FOR?!"

Manny had a face of disgust. "Eh...That fruit tasted like crap, although it was hot for some reason." She ran to Manny. "I WAS PLANNING ON USING IT TO HUMILIATE ZOE!" She yelled. Manny blinked in response. "I'm sorry?.." Frida calmed down. "You know what, I have another way of pranking Zoe, lets go!" She reached for Manny's shoulder, but to their surprise, Manny's shoulder burst into dark green flames as Frida's hand approached him. "Ahhh!" Frida yelled out as she returned her hand. Luckily, she wasn't burned. Manny remained silent. "...WHAT THE FUCK?!" The both said in unison.

"Manny...Your shoulder, turned into fire...How's that possible?" Frida asked. "I...have no idea...It happened when you tried to grab my shoulder." Frida had an idea, she walked around and found some rocks, she picked them up and walked to Manny. "Frida...what are you doing?" Manny asked in concern of himself. Frida mimicked a pitcher position and threw one of the rocks, it aimed to Manny's face and to Manny's fortune, the rock phased through him as flames opened his face, and returned it to normal when the rock passed through. Frida continued to throw rocks as each of them phased through Manny's body.

Frida finished. "Just as I thought...For some reason, your able to phase through stuff whenever your in danger, meaning your immune to physical attacks." Frida explained. Manny looked at Frida like she was crazy. "What? I'm more than just some girl who loves rock and churros."

Manny had a shadow covering his eyes. "Frida...Do you know what that means?" Frida shakes her head. Manny had a huge smile as his eyes showed excitement. "I have superpowers, actual superpowers! Not ones where you rely on items! And you know what? I think that fruit gave me superpowers!" Frida smiled as well. "Your right! It's like destiny wanted me to waste 3 hours of my Saturday fishing for that fruit! Which means I'm not a failure!"

"You know what Frida, to celebrate, let's get lunch, including churros!" Frida's pupil's turned into churros. "CHURROS!"

They both left the park, unaware of the biggest change yet to come.

Author's Notes: I think this story works better. Ace and Manny actually have some things in common. Like how they both won't run away from something. How their both related to important people, and how they'll do anything for family. I know you'll ask why Manny's color of flames isn't like Ace's. Well its because of the connection between his ancient tiger spirit and Devil Fruit. Plus, it also shows that it represents Manny's Devil Fruit now, not Ace's. But there will be a surprise about his belt in the later chapters.
