Kathryn's pretty face was the first thing Lizzy saw every morning. Her eyes were often gently closed over and would hardly even stir as her partner carefully broke away from her embrace. The worst thing about being a police detective was having to get up early, Lizzy realized. Well no, there are many things far worse. In fact, she was one day away from turning in her badge forever. But she wanted to go out doing something for someone. Simply giving Pilfnam her badge would not suffice.
Lizzy got dressed and was ready for work. She was lucky enough that she got to dress casually for her job. Would today be that day?
But before she could take even a step towards the door, it swung open and a man in a yellow shirt and a cow tie stood at the entrance!
"Die, copper!" shouted Benjamin Mendax and he shot Lizzy dead and ran!
Kathryn woke up and screamed!
"Lizzy!" Kathryn screamed, but Lizzy was already dead. Kathryn cried into her chest. Then, she heard sirens blaring. Someone must have called the police. Kathryn realized she'd probably be a suspect. And if she were arrested, the culprit, who she did not see, would get away.
Then, Kathryn got an idea.
Kathryn got dressed into something that could just about be called a work outfit, then she fished around in Lizzy's pocket, taking her ID.
"Oi, what's going on here?" said Pilfnam. He pointed at the corpse. "Who that?"
"That..." said Kathryn, "...is Kathryn Davies. And I am Lizzy Harrison."
"Objection!" shouted John Phoenix. "Detective Lizzy Harrison, are you listening to me? Listen up real good young lady!"
"Sure," said Kathryn Davies.
No, that was not who said it.
"Sure," said Lizzy Harrison!
