Prologue I : Reunion

"—Kyrie Elyson…"

The light faded moments later.

— I can't react.

Should I be happy? After all, we killed Roa…

— Why am I… What have I done...?

"—Tohno-kun…"

— No… I refuse… It cannot end that way…!

"— Tohno-kun?"

"Ciel… Roa is dead… Right?"

I look at the blue haired girl in front of me… Her blue eyes glimmering in the moonlight entering from the window.

"Yes… You dealt the finishing blow to his body… But I killed his soul… Roa cannot reincarnate anymore…"

—True, I killed SHIKI's body completely… No healing in the world could save him from his central Death Point being stabbed.

"Then… Will the life he stole return to its original owner?"

— Silence

"I do not know…"

"I see…"

Two weeks later…

It has been two weeks… Two weeks since Arcueid turned to dust in front of my very eyes.

Akiha seems a lot more energetic since then, and my anemia is no longer bothering me.

Like I suspected, the life force SHIKI stole returned to me and Akiha.

—But Arcueid did not return…

I hear knocking on my door accompanied with the familiar sound of Hisui.

"Shiki-sama, lunch is ready. Please come down to the dining room."

"Yes, okay Hisui… I'll be there shortly."

"Understood…"

And soft footsteps… She left…

"Arcueid, you dummy…"

I say as I wipe some tears from my eyelids.

After lunch, I decided to take a stroll in the city… Who knows? Maybe she's back and she's just messing with me.

I walk the familiar roads.

The school is empty, like I expected.

The commercial district is full with people during midday, but after the rush hours, the traffic declines rapidly.

Then… The park…

"—Say Shiki! Do you like ice cream?"

I bite my lip as I remember that date she took me on.

I was too dumb to realize how happy she was just by doing simple things and living…

.

.

.

"—Tohno-kun~"

"GAAH—!"

No. I totally did not just jump and scream like a girl when Ciel jump-scared me.

"Eh? Sorry sorry, I didn't mean to scare you… Here, let me help you back up."

"You did not have to do that y'know, senpai."

I take her hand and stand back up.

"How have you been?"

Ciel asks me with clear worry on her face.

"What do you mean? I'm like always."

"... Really? I thought you'd be sadder than normal since that happened…"

—Did she have to bring it up?

"I guess I am sadder than usual… Why did you bring it up anyways?"

"—Hmm… I thought about it, and after a while, I decided to tell you something."

"—?"

"Arcueid is alive."

"—?"

I cannot believe my ears.

"I'm sorry can you say that again?"

"Oh, did you not hear me? I said ARCUEID IS ALIVE!"

Without understanding what I'm doing, I grab into the shoulders of the girl in front of me with all my force.

"Where is she?! How?! Is she okay?! Why didn't she come back?!"

Then I realize I'm screaming in public.

I let go of her in shared embarrassment, she rubs her shoulder for a bit then says.

"The church confirmed that the activities of Arcuied has come to a halt two weeks ago, but a friend of mine has confirmed sightings of her around multiple places."

— I can't believe it, Arcueid is actually alive!

"Say, Ciel-Senpai... Do you know where is she right now?"

I ask hoping for an answer that will sooth my nerves.

— But I get no response for a whole minute.

"I'm sorry Tohno-kun... Even with the help of all my connections in the Church and the Mages' association, we've failed to pinpoint her location..."

My head lowers in disappointment, she lives, but I can't reach her...

— Arcueid is alive, but I can't be with her.

"But—!"

Ciel fiddles with her fingers before she continues.

"I suspect that she sealed herself, in Castle Brunstud."

"—Where is that exactly...?"

And Ciel lowers her head again.

"I don't know..."

Another week passed...

—Will Akiha eventually ask me about it?
Yes, I heard Hisui and Kohaku inform her of my condition once, I was just passing by when I heard them describe me being 'Depressed' and needing to change air.

I've been trying my best to hide it and smile.

—Will I be able to just move on and live?

I am attempting to put away my feelings for her and smile.

—But it feels so fake...

It is not rare for me to wake up midnight just to find my pillow soaked with tears.

—I can't suppress those tears.

Midnight... I can't sleep...

I stand up in my pajamas and look out from the window of my room.

—Somehow... The night sky is empty... And the moon, although not full yet... I can't help but think...
"The moon is beautiful tonight..."

Then out of nowhere... I see a familiar face waving from the other side of the fence.

I blink again and again... But the woman is still waving...

—Red long hair, white top and blue jeans. How can I forget her?

I quickly put on my clothes and descend the stairs in a rush.

She is there... On the other side of the street.

"Shiki! It has been a while!"

"S-Sensei? Am I dreaming or something? What are you doing here at such an hour?"

—Really, what is she thinking? It's past midnight!

"Eh? I was just passing by and I figured I'd give you a visit to check out how are you doing. It seems you're doing great!"

—Do I look like I'm doing great?

That's news even to me.

"Let's go somewhere we can talk freely, I have a lot of things to tell you."

Said the red headed woman with a smile.

Who am I to argue, seeing her is such a rare occurrence that I cannot deny her.

She starts walking and gestures at me to follow.

"C'mon!"

I shake my head and eventually follow her.

We walk silently under the moonlit night sky. The streets have been relatively safe these days, but people still tend to go home early. It's like a social trauma that hit the entire city, making everyone afraid to go out at night after the incidents with the Dead apostles.

"We're here."

Her sound wakes me up, I was too deep in thought that I didn't realize we already reached the Park.

—The park... Filled with memories...

The woman stands in place, looking at the night sky as her blue eyes glow under the moonlight. Her beauty was not debatable that's for sure.

"Now tell me, Shiki..."

—?

"Would you like a chance to save her from an eternity of sealing?"
