note from the author:
I haven't watched/read the show for too long but I do love Bakugo. I hope you all enjoy this little fantasy I put together in an AU to allow you to see some more romance from our beloved Bakugo.
The hard pavement hit under her feet as she ran. She was looking over one shoulder but she knew that she was quickly approaching her end. She was panting, the breath was wracking in her lungs as she looked back. This was it, wasn't it? She would have to face it.
You can do this. Her words echoed in her own head. The heat was intense and was growing. She was meant to do this. She knelt down on the ground and she dug her heels in. She wasn't running away. No. She was luring. She watched as the fire started to boil in the gun once more. The dragon's breath weapon looked as if it were going to expel the heat from within itself. She had to prove that she had what it takes to make it. She was going to be a pro hero. There was no doubt about that.
The shields of Tungsten that shadowed and covered her body now also guarded the rest of the street. If anyone were in the line to be injured they would be safe now. This was going to take a lot of the iron out of her blood, but it would be worth it. She was ready for impact when she awaited the cries of the villain as the heat would reverberate back on to him. Bracing herself she heard the cries, but the ones that came were not of pain but of anger and victory.
"DIIIIEEEEE" She heard the words come as explosions echoed from above her head. What in the hell? She looked around confused for just a moment but she would know those explosions anywhere. Of course he would show up. Man, can't he just stay away for one fight? She sighed as she kept everyone still behind her shields. There were enough to protect them even from Bakugo's blasts if he wasn't being careful. "If". The man was never careful. Like this, she was indestructible, the only cost was the energy it would drain from her later. There was no time to think about that though. She had to be brave and strong for them.
"Hey, it's okay everyone! I am here, don't worry, kay?" She said with a smile as the heat crashed around the shield. She wasn't sure if it was from the gun or from Bakugo, but both were hot and uncomfortable. Ther crowd stuck close to the young aspiring hero. Her strands of pewter hair, always in two braids, fell down either side of her face, framed with blush colored highlights.
"Don't worry, he'll take care of the villain in no time." She said again with confidence. Though, what she wanted to do was rip his throat out right now. She could feel her power draining, but she looked over her shields to see the action. The hero was hard to watch. He was fast. She felt as though every time she had seen him fight he had gotten faster. Unsure if that was even possible, she pushed the thought aside as she watched his hands secrete with explosions one after the other. The firepower was relentless and what once felt like a life or death situation was now quickly becoming a spectacle for people to watch.
Though he was reckless, people felt safe. He was strong and Rosetta couldn't deny that fact. No matter how much she wanted to take her hands and wring his neck until he combusted. The cheering was the first sign that the fight was over.
He hardly did anything! He moved so quickly…
"Move it wannabe." She listened to the familiar voice as he landed in front of her.
"I'm sorry, who do you think you're talking to?" She yelled at the hero.
"You, rosebud!" He yelled at Rosetta as he shoved her. Idiot. She was immovable like this and she knew it drove him mad.
"Good. While we're talking, what the hell do you think you were doing?" She screamed as she stepped in front of him once more as he tried to walk around.
"Saving your ass."
"Being wreckless," She countered.
"Not true, I saved you and everyone. I am a hero. You're still a student."
"A student who had to save a bunch of innocent people from you being an idiot with your powers." She said as she placed a hand on his shoulder to stop him from moving.
"Get. Off. Of. Me. OR I'LL KILL YOU." He screamed as he went to grab her wrist. She could feel the secretion on his hand pick up. Was he going to explode a bomb on her?
"Do it." She dared casually. "You know you can't hurt me and you hate that." She smirked as she watched him.
"You amature!" His voice boomed at the time his explosion went off. It was easy for Rose to stop it. The tungsten formed under her skin and made her impenetrable as he went off on her.
"Are we done here, hero?" She stressed the last word with sarcasm.
"Idiot." He scowled as he looked at her.
"Don't do something so irrational next time."
"You were here to protect them. Just be glad I didn't think you were a complete idiot who couldn't handle herself. Though running from a villain…"
"It was a calculated move!"
"Yeah, whatever newbie." He said as she shrugged her off.
"I don't need advice from a little girl." He continued as people tried to approach Bakugo for autographs. He gave them out, but the girl had clearly soured his mood. It wasn't long before he turned to look at her once more with a disgusted look.
"Don't think I can't beat you. You know, if I really wanted to. You're just a sidekick waiting to happen." He said as he took off, the blasts propelling him to the air and out of sight.
"Thanks so much, miss!" A small child's voice broke her from her anger and she smiled.
"Of course! That's what heroes are for, right? Now be careful. Everyone." She said as she waved and she jogged down the road. When she was far away from the crowd she slumped in an alleyway. The pink and grey leathers clung to her skin and she rubbed her arms. She would need a good meal soon. Her body felt weak and she was light headed. The anemia was always worse after a big fight like that. She looked down at her palms and sighed.
Why couldn't she have done more? She was going to be a pro one day, but she was too calculated sometimes. She was more than just a shield though...could she be a pro like that? She put her head on her knees and sighed heavily. The pewter tinted braids were coming loose and she undid the ties as she sat on the pavement. She was lost in thought. She could fight. She was offensive too, but wasn't it more important to make sure that you could keep people safe. There were plenty of shields that were pros. No reason she couldn't be next. Right?
Her stomach growled for sustenance and she winced.
"Food. Soon." She said to herself as she wrapped her arms around her legs. The dizziness was settling in and she knew if she stood she would fall over. Just a few more moments of settling and she was sure she would be able to walk back to school and prepare a nice meal.
"Oh..are you serious? Come on kid, I just want some damn privacy." He growled and she heard the familiar voice. She watched the blonde as he stalked towards her, having to lift her head slowly so she didn't suffer too much from the offbeat equilibrium.
"You look like shit, what the hell? Come on, you're supposed to be a hero. Get up and act like one. Weakling."
"Shut up." She retorted as she put her head down. "I just need a second." She said, keeping her head between her knees.
"I'll start counting. If you aren't up in one minute I'll carry your ass back to school," he threatened. "Can't make our school look weak, idiot." She sighed, never knowing that this day alone would change the course of not only her career but also her life.
