So this is a short story that will connect to a story I am working on right now. I believe it was either last year or the beginning of this year I tried the story I am again working on but life got in the way, my job was stressful and I fell into depression so I deleted the story figuring I'd never get to it. Well now I have a new better job and I am out of my depression although I will get episodes sometimes but I won't let it suck me in again. For those of you that went through this I'm just letting you know let a trusted person you love be there for you, even if they can't help you or don't understand you just the fact that they are trying let's you know they care :) Anyways enough of that, let me know if this story needs more details, I made it direct on purpose but if it's too direct let me know. You can give me Ocs if you want, like just dump a lot on me lol, Windclan and Riverclan play an important role and Shadowclan is the clan the main characters will be in.
Life didn't know how she got here, didn't know who she was, what she was or why she was. The golden strands of the long grass tickled her underbelly. It spread as far as she could see with a few trees and brush dotting here and there. Her paws seemed to have a mind of their own, exploring the land, taking her to places unknown but yet known. She knew were she was going, and yet she didn't. The land wasn't barren it was full of life yet there was none like her. Zebra and elk grazed in the grass while hippos and gators swam in the river ahead, each keeping a wary distance from the other. To her right giraffes stretched their longs necks to reach the leaves high in the tall trees while to her left a herd elephants wandered. A baby elephant glanced at her curiously but an adult ushered it forward.
How she knew these creatures names she didn't know yet she did. Everything was so confusing, so contradictory. Life padded under a large tree and sat down, curling her long white feathery tail over her front paws. So much life but there wasn't any like her. Was she alone in this world?
No I'm not.
A vision of black fur, a tom with red eyes. He was her brother yet he wasn't born, no not yet, not until she did the unimaginable. But should she? Should she create just so she wouldn't be lonely anymore? Her visions showed her the evil that came with him, the hurt, the price. But it was worth it, yes it was. She had seen a vision of herself without her brother. It was very lonely, especially since she would live forever. Why not share that forever with somebody?
I would keep him in check. Life promised to herself. She glanced down at a small poppy flower, all alone and by itself. She imagined a creature in her head. Tall and big like her but with a beautiful golden mane and a tuft of fur on his tail tip. She touched the flower with that image in mind and immediately the image came to life.
The creature stared at her a small smiling forming, showing large sharp fangs. Life smiled back. The creature glance past her and waved his tail in greeting. The white feline turned and there he was, her brother. He looked just like her except he was all black with red eyes. You would think he looked creepy but Life thought it looked just right on him, especially with the abilities he had.
"I am birthed because of you." he murmured, bowing his head in thanks. Life purred and nudged his shoulder.
"Yes I did, you are my brother." Her brother stared at the creature Life had created.
"You made him?" She nodded.
"I set the image of him in my head and touched a small poppy flower and here he is." Her brother widened his round glowing red eyes and scanned the field, finding a patch of daisies and bounding over to them. He closed his eyes shut and opened them after a moment, touching one the flowers gently. It simply wilted and turned brown. He frowned and glanced up at her.
"Did I do something wrong?" he asked slightly sad.
"Of course not silly," she giggled.
"Your ability is not to create like me."
"Oh," his frown deepened.
"I will show you in time but first why don't you name my creation?" Her brothers eyes immediately shined. Life knew where his evil came from, to not create, to not be acknowledged like she would. But Life would make sure everyone knew he was just as important as her. Her brother circled her creation, taking in every detail, every small hair on his body.
"How about lion?" he asked the creature.
"I am a lion," the Lion purred though it sounded more like a happy growl.
"What is my name?" he stared at her brother eagerly.
"Braveheart," the black feline said without hesitation. Braveheart nodded.
"I love it, thank you." The lion turned to the golden valley and roared.
"I am Braveheart of the lands!" Life and her brother shared a loving look.
"Braveheart why don't you go hunting while I talk to my brother?" The lion nodded and trotted off, his tail swinging to and fro happily as he disappeared into the long golden grass.
"I am Death..." Her brother whispered to her and Life nodded.
"Yes," She answered.
"So my purpose is to kill?" he drooped his tail and stared at her with sad eyes. Life stepped forward and touched her nose to his.
"No, your purpose is to bring mercy to those in pain. All life gets old and with age brings discomfort. Some life will get injuries and be in agonizing pain. Can you imagine living with such pain forever?" Death shook his head.
"You will be able to take that pain away and then they will thank you, be able to live with you forever." Life on the other hand would not be able to live with her creations. She could visit them yes but they would have their own lives to live. But when they die, they'll live with Death. The white feline couldn't help the slight jealously at the thought.
Death gave her a small smile and licked her shoulder.
By the time Braveheart came back, night had set in and the moon shone silver light over the valley. It was beautiful, so beautiful. Life took it all in. The stars that shined so beautifully like fireflies in the sky.
Braveheart had came back with a small rabbit. Death had asked him why the lion didn't go for elk or zebra.
"They're too fast for me and my mane makes it hard to speed up." Life told him she would create help for him in the morning. After Braveheart ate the rabbit with quick gulps the three of them snuggled together and fell asleep. Death made sure to sleep on the other side of Life so he wouldn't accidentally touch Braveheart. For any touch from him would end the lion's life far too soon.
The next morning Life created more like Braveheart though they were slightly smaller with no manes and more sleek. Death called them lionesses. Braveheart had asked to name his favorite, a lioness who was also a golden yellow like the other lions but much more lighter. Her fur was the exact color of the golden grasses of the savannah.
Wildfrond he had named her while Death named the other four Quietleaf, Sharpclaw, Tinyfang, and Goldenfur. The six lions went out to hunt and came back with a zebra. They ate graciously and groomed each others pelts.
Braveheart swore to protect them with his life and decided to call the group a pride. Life and Death decided they would be alright and parted ways. The lion and lionesses were sad to see them go but they all had understanding in their eyes.
Now it was just Life and her brother who explored the savannah. They found some brush to settle in for the day. It was evening by then, the sky red and gold.
"Can you only make lions?" Death asked, his eyes focused on the beautiful sky.
"I can make any feline I imagine. Did you have something in mind?" Death turned to her and smiled.
"You would create something I asked for?" Life rolled her white eyes and nudged him.
"Of course! Your so creative I would be a fool not to." Death took that into consideration, his expression in full thought.
"What about a spotted feline? One that is more slender and built for speed? It wouldn't have a mane so it could hunt for itself."
Life set the picture in her head, her eyes closed.
"I'm guessing you already have a name for this one?" She opened her eyes to see a goofy grin on her brother's face and couldn't help but laugh.
She touched a patch of lavender flowers and out of it came 10 spotted felines.
"You are called cheetahs, now go on and live your lives to the fullest." Death said to them. The cheetahs nodded and whisked away, each going in it's own direction with such speed it was amazing.
The next few days were the same. Life and Death explored, Life created more types of felines such as leopards. They were spotted but built bigger than cheetahs and though they didn't have the form that gave the cheetahs speed they were calculating and independent. The next day they came to a jungle and Life created a striped feline Death named tigers and all black felines called panthers. Then there were smaller felines she made called ocelots.
One day as she made a tiger, Life called Death to watch and tickled the tiger's nose. When he sneezed very small felines came out and this time she named them.
"They're called cats." Death laughed at the funny named but cooed at the small creatures.
"They're so cute!" he exclaimed. With a couple more tickles and a couple more sneezes there were about a hundred cats. They all dispersed into the world.
When night fell Life felt satisfied. She was fulfilling her purpose. As she glanced at Death's sleeping form besides her, his fur rising and falling slowly she wondered if he felt the same? Of course he didn't, he had yet to use his abilities. Life found a flower and touched it imagining her brother's favorite big cat so far, a panther and asked her to stay there while she woke Death up.
"It's time you use your abilities." Death stared at the panther in awe.
"But she's not in pain." he said warily.
"Yes but it's good practice for you, I'm sure your anxious to try it." Life responded softly. Her brother had been twitchy the last few days, his paws seemed to itch in discomfort.
"Will it hurt her?" he whispered.
"Not if you imagine peace while you touch her." Death slowly stalked up to the panther who smiled shyly at him. He closed his eyes tight and took in a deep breath, touching her as gently as he could. The panther lay down and curled to a ball like she was sleeping except her fur didn't rise and fall and suddenly her spirit came out of her body. She had a slight glow to her and it was amazing. Life could make a creation that glowed just like that but she decided to reserve that to Death.
"What is my name?" The panther asked Death.
"What name do you like?" he responded softly. The panther flicked her tail in thought for a few moments.
"How about Hope?" Death purred and nodded.
"That's a beautiful name." Hope purred back and stepped up to touch noses with Death. The black feline took an instinctive step back. Life padded up to the two and lay her tail over her brother's back.
" It's okay," she whisperer in his ear.
"She isn't of the living remember?" Death let out a shaky breathe and step forward, touching noses with Hope. Life could see the shudder that rolled down her brother's spine. While she had gave Death comforting touches before she knew from sleeping with Braveheart, their backs touching, that touch from a creation was much more intense and more amazing. Death never felt that until now.
Hope smirked and playfully pounced on Death before running a short distance away, waiting for him to get her back. He glanced at Life with confusion.
"Go on," Life shooed him with a paw.
"Go have fun." With that Death chased after Hope, the two running to and fro in the dark of night, pouncing on one and then the other chasing and pouncing the other.
This is how it's supposed to be. Life watched with pride at the two goofy fur balls.
The next morning Life and Death watched the sun rise, their pelts touching.
"There would be no me without you," she murmured to her brother. Death focused his red gaze on her.
"You came before me." Life stared gently back at him.
"Yes but without you I couldn't fulfil my purpose and-"
"and without you I couldn't fulfil mine." he finished. They smiled at each other and focused back on the sun.
Our lives will be perfect, I'll make sure of it.
