There are conversations based on religion in this fic, but I don't use any real-world religions and I only use them to enhance the fic a bit. But if I have offended you, or your religion/culture, please let me know and I'll take this fic down.
It was a very slow day at Love and Pet, allowing the Winx Club to close early and meet the Specialists and Roxy at the Frutti Music Bar. Luckily (or unluckily for Klaus) it was just as slow, with the bar empty, save for a few stragglers here and there. The entire group lounged around a table, drinking and talking about a variety of topics. Just as Tecna and the guys were getting into the latest update of the Witches' Creed video games they were interrupted by a woman, dressed in long black robes, who walked right up to the table.
"Excuse me, I am sorry to bother you all, but have you heard of The Many-Faced God?" (1)
Roxy and Bloom cringed, instantly recognizing where this was going. Before either of them could shoo the woman away however, Sky responded with an innocent "Um, no?", which delighted the woman as much as it annoyed them.
"Ah! Well, my name is Kate, and if you all don't mind, I would like to spend some time telling you about Him," Kate began, while passing out fliers depicting various deities in various phases of sacrifice, " The Many-Faced God is a God that we in Faceless Men and Women League worship. He is the God of everyone from their birth until even beyond their death, but not many people actually worship Him, which is why I am—"
"We're fine, thanks." Bloom stood up, handing Kate back her flyer.
"If you will only give me a moment, I am sure that you all will be very interested in learning about—"
"Thank you, Kate, but we actually don't allow soliciting here, so you'll have to go..." Roxy interjected.
Kate opened her mouth, ready to retort, but closed it again once Riven shot her an absolutely deadly look, extremely irritated with her interrupting the vibe that he was actually enjoying. "Alright, but I insist that you all keep these flyers and eventually visit the Faceless Men and Woman's Home on 708 Bouvard Road."
Everyone (excluding Roxy), struck dumb by the bizarre situation, turned to Bloom, since she seemed the most confident in dealing with the random intruder. "Sure." Bloom stated, sitting back down and waving off Kate. She stood there for a moment, clearly unsatisfied by the lack of attention, but she eventually turned on her heels and left, recognizing when her presence was unwanted.
"Um, what was that about?" Sky, who was the first to find his voice, asked his girlfriend. But since Bloom was sipping on his drink that she stole, Roxy answered for her.
"She's part of this doomsday cult that moved into Gardenia a couple of years ago. They're weird and pushy but mostly harmless."
"What's a cult?"
"Cult: a relatively small group of people having religious beliefs or practices regarded by others as strange or sinister." Tecna supplied the definition from her phone. "Apparently they're also known for recruiting as many people as possible, and when they have enough that's when it's considered a legitimate religion."
"Well, she needs a better outfit. No one's recruiting anyone if they look like that!" Stella huffed, earning a laugh from everyone but Sky, whose face was still scrunched up in confusion.
"What's a religion?"
"Yeah…" several others agreed with his question.
"Religion: the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power." Tecna again supplied.
"There's no religion in the Magic Dimension?" Roxy asked incredulously. She knew that the Magic Dimension would be different from Earth, but for there to be billions of various beings to live without some form of religion? How was that possible?
"Not really," Bloom shrugged, "If you think about it religion comes from uncertainty. People will worship a higher being, because they're not sure what happens when they die, or why the volcano is exploding, or something like that. In the Magic Dimension, everyone knows The Great Dragon created it, and the Major Magical Beings added various planets or things like that here and there, so there's no...worshipping them in the same way we do."
Roxy stayed silent for a moment as she pondered Bloom's explanation. It made sense, but it didn't make sense. If people in the Magic Dimension knew higher beings existed, why wouldn't they worship them? "I am so confused…"
"Okay, let's start from the beginning," Nabu offered, since he was starting to see how everyone was becoming more and more confused...or drunk, "The Great Dragon created the Magical Dimension about 50 million years ago. With the creation of the Magical Dimension came the major planets, which includes Earth, Eraklyon, Domino, Solaria, Magix, Dyamond, and a couple of others, as well as the Major Magical Beings, who in turn created the rest of the Magical Dimension, filling it with the rest of the various other types of planets, dimensions, and realms.
Because the major planets were created directly from the Dragon's fire, they don't require a continuous stream of…'magical upkeep'...I guess is the best way of phrasing it? They can survive with or without magic, which is how Earth continued on when The Wizards of the Black Circle came and stole most of its magic, whereas the mid and minor planets would have imploded within themselves—"
"Like Kyrpton?" Roxy couldn't help blurt out, but immediately regretted it as everyone stared at her as if she grew another head. (2)
"Yeah." Bloom, the only one who understood Roxy's question, answered. "Go on Nabu." She encouraged, not bothering to explain the reference to the group of confused magical beings.
"...Anyway, well, so the major planets don't really have a religion or method of 'worship' as you say. That's why these people here," Nabu pointed his thumb towards Sky, Brandon, Stella, Timmy, and Riven, "Had no idea what religion means. The Great Dragon doesn't require it, their planets don't require it, so it doesn't exist. Okay?"
"...Okay?" Roxy was very intrigued but still confused.
"Okay, good. Now those from the mid and minor planets," Nabu jerked his thumb over to Aisha, Musa, Tecna, Flora, and Helia, "Have a slight idea of what you're referring to Roxy. The mid and minor planets are created by the Major Magical Beings, who specialize in certain types of magic, and their planets reflect that specialization. People from those planets have certain abilities endemic to their own planet, like people from Melody may have better hearing or play instruments very well, but those people also have to invest magic into their own planet...that 'magical upkeep' I said earlier. That would be the equivalent to a person from Earth worshipping a god, somewhat."
"What would magical upkeep look like?"
This time Musa supplied the answer. " Depending on the specialty on your planet, it could be as simple as a performance. I'm not sure how to explain it fully but simply singing a song on Melody provides magical energy to the planet, which is why we're so big on concerts and music halls."
Helia nodded his agreement. "I'm not from Melody, but its sister planet Harmony, where we focus on the physical and visual arts, so that's why we have so many performances, or museums and galleries and things like that. Everyone is constantly creating new art. "
"On Zenith we're very technology-focused, obviously, so we're constantly modernizing and creating new technologies."
"On Lynphea, we try to keep in harmony with nature, so we ban a lot of technology or things that would disrupt that harmony. We also grow a significant amount of crops and flowers."
"We just keep the water clean on Andros." Aisha giggled, officially drunk.
"We do more than that, love," Nabu chided as he removed the drink from Aisha's reach, "We check the acidity of the sea and keep it in range, make sure the aquatic life is healthy, keep the merfolk happy." Nabu then turned away from his fiance to meet Roxy. "There are other examples as well, Quartz is a planet focused on gem magic, so they mine gems constantly, Ohm is the planet of inner peace, so they work hard on maintaining that inner peace, Aphros is the planet of ...um well…," Nabu stammered as his face grew increasingly red, unsure of how to explain a planet based on sex magic to teen, "I'm sure you get the point." (3)
As the only one who wasn't currently giggling or turning red, Bloom—the only one who was also unaware of Aphros' existence but didn't care enough (or was too tipsy) to ask about it right now—turned to Roxy and asked, "Does that clarify things a bit?"
Roxy nodded as she took in Nabu's explanation. So the Magical Dimension knows their god exists yet just doesn't...acknowledge them? "Do you guys...pray at all?" Roxy directed the question towards Nabu, but he just gave her a bewildered look.
"What's praying?" Sky asked for Nabu, who was confused by the direction this conversation went.
"Preying: To kill and hunt for food." Tecna once again supplied.
"So like a sacrifice?"
"Yes."
"NO!" Bloom couldn't help but laugh. "No, no, no. Preying in an animal sense is to hunt. Praying in a religious sense is to like, talk and give thanks to your god."
"Oh!" Everyone collectively sighed, relived that humans on earth don't hunt others down for a diety.
"And for your question Roxy, no there is no such thing as praying. I know what you're thinking, but magical beings view things much more practically. Like do you pray and worship to your own parents for creating you? The Great Dragon and the Major Magical Beings formed the Magical Dimension because they wanted to , not because they were seeking worship."
"Are they still alive?"
"Who?"
"The Great Dragon, and the Major Magical Beings?"
"Yes they are."
"Where...do they reside?"
Bloom took another sip of Sky's drink as she shrugged, gesturing to Nabu to answer. Unfortunately, he was in the middle of taking a bite of his burger, so Helia took over.
"Most of them live on their home planets. Cadence, the MMB for Melody and Harmony lives primarily on Harmony. I've even met her a couple of times."
"Wait!" Roxy screeched, making all of the adults jump in their seats, "You've ... met your planets god?
"Um… yes?"
"So they're real people?"
"My and Musas' MMB is a witch, but she's lovely," Helia clarified, " Other MMB's include fairies, wizards, or one of the various types of magical beings. The MMB for the Omega Dimension, for example, is a giant snake with ice powers. "
"What is The Great Dragon?"
"An armadillo, Roxanna. Aren't you the fairy of animals?" Riven spat sarcastically, but everyone ignored him.
"The Great Dragon is a sentient dragon with an unusual amount of power, in a nutshell." Helia answered.
"Where does that live?
Helia remained silent, taking a sip of his soda, to mask how unsure he was of explaining to a young earthling how the most powerful magical being in the entire dimension resided not even 15 feet away from her, tipsy and playing with her boyfriends hair.
Luckily Bloom answered for him. "On Domino, allegedly. I've never seen it though."
"Ah," Roxy didn't believe Bloom for even a second, but she noticed how everyone shifted uncomfortably, so she decided to drop it, "That's pretty interesting," Roxy leaned forward, her eyes twinkling, "What else is there to know about the Magic Dimension?"
(1) A reference to Game of Thrones. I actually haven't watched the series though, so uh...I hope it's a god.
(2) A reference to Superman. I actually don't know much about this either but I know that his planet collapsed within itself for some reason.
(3) A reference to the Winc Club fic "Burn" by the user Dream_Wreaver with the same themes. It is an EXCELLENT fic, but it's rated M, so if you're a minor do NOT read it. I'm serious. But if you're not a minor I think it deserves a read.
Well...this is a bit different than my usual writing style but I'm experimenting and I wanted to see how this would go. So...let me know! Thanks. Please read and review
