There was a new occupant in the hospital ward. She heard the others talking about him. Apparently he had replaced the tall one who saw Lucifer. Poor thing. She kinda knew what that was like. She often wondered if he hadn't been crazy at all. But who was she to say? She didn't think she was crazy, but everyone else said so. So maybe she was.
Anyways. They said he had the same hallucinations. Same problems.
Wouldn't eat. Wouldn't sleep. Shied away from everyone.
The same old.
So she decided to go see him. She liked to check on everyone who came in. Out of habit, mostly.
She said hello to a few people she passed in the hallways, walking towards the same room the tall one had been in. She didn't know his name, or any of their names. She figured there wasn't a point; she'd be moved soon, they'd be moved soon. She came closer to room 362, the door was open. Which was kind of weird, but whatever. Maybe the new guy liked it better that way. Maybe he was claustrophobic. She was. She was one of the only people who kept their door open, even at night. The nurses learned the hard way about trying to lock her up.
As she came upon the room, she noticed the man sitting on the bed, back to her, staring out the windows. Or she assumed, anyway. Maybe he was staring down the devil.
But mostly she noticed the wings that hung behind him, and the bright light emanating from him.
An… angel.
She had never seen an angel before, but she automatically knew that this was one. Tentatively she knocked on the doorway. He didn't move or answer in any way, so she took a step into the room.
"Hello," she said, her voice soft and airy.
For a second, the angel didn't move. But then he turned and looked at her. She was stricken by the blinding blue of his eyes, a most gorgeous color. He didn't speak, but watched her warily.
She cocked her head to the side as she studied him and his tan trench coat. With a light laugh, she said, "I like the upgrade. To the uniform." He still didn't answer.
"Do you mind if I sit down?" When he still didn't answer she came in further and sat gingerly on the arm chair. "You're an angel."
That seemed to rouse him.
"Human."
She laughed. "That I am. What's an angel doing here?"
Once again no answer. His eyes seemed far away again, as if he wasn't there. She liked his company, though. There was something about his air, warm and calming. So she sat there for a while, just enjoying it. For once the hospital didn't feel so lethargic and cold.
"I'm Lenora. Or LJ. Short for Lenora Jones. They used to call me that. What's your name?" She couldn't help but ask. She expected his silence though, and laughed airily once more. "Ok, Angel."
Lenora ended up sitting in Angel's room for a while. The sky had started to darken by the time she stood and left with a goodbye, once more on her rounds. Checking for monsters.
She hadn't seen one in a while, but she knew there had been a few demons. They seemed to have left a few days ago.
That is until she ran into one dressed as a nurse, heading towards where she had come from.
Her body seized up and she pressed against the wall as she passed, trying to curl in on herself. The demon paid her no mind, and continued walking.
There was something going on in this hospital, Lenora knew it.
But there was nothing she could do about it.
She went back to Angel's room the next day. She almost felt pulled to him. Like he was calling to her. She even saw him in her dreams last night for a moment, his eyes glowing bright blue and the shadow of his wings wide behind him.
The demon was in his room.
She bit back her gasp and stumbled back from the open doorway, looking around as if she could possibly find someone to help her. But no one would believe her.
That's why she was here. Partly, anyway.
So what if she had tried to kill herself? You would too, if everywhere you looked you saw faces that haunted your nightmares. The dream of the angel had been the nicest one she had had since she could remember.
Why was there a demon in her angel's room? She didn't like it. There was something very wrong here.
Lenora took a deep breath and straightened up, walking past the room as if she hadn't noticed it at all.
She was gonna get to the bottom of this. Since no one else cared.
So I kinda just came up with this on the spot. Someone let me know if I should continue! If not I might just randomly post every now and then, but if y'all want more, I'll work harder on it. :) Not sure where it's going yet, though.
