I SEE THE LIGHT
It was a night like any other under the night sky of Paris. A simple night of patrol which was nothing exceptional. Another like the hundreds they had already lived through all the years they had owned their miraculous. And yet this night was unlike any other…
It was almost midnight and Paris had fallen asleep for a long time. Ladybug and Chat Noir were sitting in silence, as usual, on a rooftop, observing the Eiffel Tower, when their lives changed forever.
A first star fell from the sky, leaving behind a long luminous trail. A second followed quickly and then a third. Soon, the sky of Paris was the scene of one of the most beautiful wonders of nature, as well as one of the most romantic that there is: a shower of shooting stars. Everything suddenly became magical and the impossible seemed to finally become possible…
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Ladybug was amazed by the spectacle that was playing out before her eyes and that she shared with her partner. At that precise moment, she would have liked to share it with none other than him… apart from another blond perhaps…
As time passed, the feline had conquered a place in Ladybug's heart. This one was now possessed by two blond boys with green eyes, each as good and wonderful as the other, for whom she would be able to give her whole life.
But, she had never known how to say it, neither to one nor to the other. She was too afraid to lose them forever, if she revealed the secrets of her heart. She was too afraid of having to choose and not knowing how to do it.
One was her life long partner whom she trusted completely. She had put her life in his hands more often than her turn. She loved his humor, his courage and so much more. But she had too pushed him away all many times and, over time, she didn't know if his feelings for her still existed.
The other was her best friend. She had gone through the years with him, supporting him in all the difficult moments of his life. She had started to love him when she discovered her goodness in him, when he offered her a simple umbrella. Her love had never stopped growing since, as she discovered the wonderful person he was. Her friendship was most precious, so she had never dared to become more, despite the connections they had had in recent years. She didn't know if she had the right to expect more from him.
Ladybug watched the rain of shooting stars and made a wish. A simple wish. A wish without magic and without implications for reality as it existed, yet it was what she wanted most in the world.
Her instinct pushed her to turn to her feline partner, who was just turning his head towards her at the same time. She saw the stars reflected in her eyes and suddenly she knew…
All those days watching from the windows
All those years outside looking in
All that time never even knowing
Just how blind I've been
Ladybug reached over to Chat Noir's face and stroked it gently, just on the edge of his mask. She was dazzled by the intensity of the magic of the wish she made to the stars and which came true.
Now I'm here blinking in the starlight
Now I'm here suddenly I see
Standing here it's all so clear
I'm where I'm meant to be
Ladybug smiles at the feline, heart pounding in her chest. Reality being crazier and more beautiful than all of her most incredible dreams.
And at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
A little breeze blew through the feline's hair, bringing the heroine the sweet familiar scent she knew so well. How had she not known before? How could she have been so blind? Why hadn't she listened to his heart before? Why had she let illusions and magic fool her?
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you
Ladybug's eyes filled with tears of happiness and she took Chat Noir's hands in hers. She squeezed it briefly and then slowly moved them towards her ears to rest them on the source of her power: her earrings.
"You can take them off, Chat Noir," she whispered softly to him. I 've wanted to tell you for a long time, but I was scared. It's strange but I'm not afraid anymore, you understand?
The feline smiled tenderly and softly at her, making the heroine's heart beat faster.
"I'm starting to understand…" he replied in the same tone.
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Chat Noir was amazed by the show that was playing out before his eyes and that he shared with his partner. At this precise moment, he would have liked to share it with none other than her… apart from another bluenette maybe ...
Time had passed and, being around the two young women almost every day of his life, the feline had finally discovered that his heart belonged to both of them. He was desperate to them, even to deny what he was really even becoming someone else if they made a wish ...
He loved deeply both but never could they talk about it again, neither to one nor to the other, whether with or without the mask. He was scared. Afraid of being rejected again, afraid of having his heart broken ... So he had remained silent, hoping with all his heart that things would change one day ...
The first was his best friend. The wonderful woman who had smiled at him, who had given him a second chance, when everything had started badly between them. She was the first friend he had made on his own and, little by little, she had become so much more than that. Actually more than just a friend. She was always the one who answered present when he needed it, always the one who spoke the words that allowed him to raise his head, the one who accepted his tears and his doubts without judging him. He had fallen head over heels in love with this young woman who had always known how to see his heart as it really was, despite the different masks he could wear.
The second was his wonderful partner. This woman who had fought by his side for all her years. Contrary to appearances, he hadn't liked her at first sight. No, what had made him fall head over heels in love with her was seeing her stand up against their enemy, despite her doubts and fears. She had shown immense courage and she had been so beautiful then, so dazzling, that her light had struck her heart like a Cupid's arrow. From that moment on he had never ceased to love her. Never, despite the detours he had taken in his life.
He loved them both but what about their feelings? Was he just a friend to them or had they developed tender feelings for him too? Did he have the right to hope for more? Did he have the right to ask for more? What if he did, if life gave him that chance, how could he ever choose between the two? He knew that this choice was now impossible for him to make ...
Chat Noir looked at the rain of shooting stars and made a wish. The wish is the simplest that there is. The wish that had been sleeping in the bottom of his heart for so many years. A wish without real magic and without implications for reality as it existed but the most important wish in the world, for him.
His instinct then whispered to him to turn to his partner, who made the same movement as his, at the same time ... He saw the stars shining in his eyes and, suddenly, he knew ...
All those days chasing down a daydream
All those years living in a blur
All that time never truly seeing
Things, the way they were.
The feline saw the heroine of his heart reach out to his face and stroke him gently, just on the edge of the mask. He closed his eyes for a few seconds, to enjoy the gentle caress that made his heart beat faster and faster.
Her soft touch and the sparkle in her eyes spoke louder than anything the words could have meant, if she had spoken. She smiled at him and he felt like her heart was exploding into thousands of tiny shards, like the stars continuing to fall around them. The reality was more magical and more miraculous than any of his wildest hopes.
Now she's here shining in the starlight
Now she's here suddenly I know
If she's here it's crystal clear
I'm where I'm meant to go
A small breeze blew in his hair and he had the feeling that she was taking with her a tiny part of his emotions to blow them in the ear of the young woman, who devoured him with her eyes. He saw her eyes shine with tears but her smile was so bright and intense that he knew without the slightest hesitation that she was happy. He smiled back at her then, his throat tight with everything words couldn't express for him.
She then took his hands in hers and squeezed them briefly. She began to slowly direct them towards her ears, before placing them on the source of her power: her earrings.
Chat Noir didn't know if he was still breathing so much he gasped at what his gesture meant. He also didn't know if he was going to survive the intensity of this moment because his heart was racing so quickly.
"You can take them off, Chat Noir," she whispered softly to him. I've wanted to tell you for a long time, but I was scared. It's strange but I'm not afraid anymore, you understand?
The feline smiled at her even more tenderly and gently.
"I'm starting to understand…" he replied in the same tone.
How had he not known before? How could he have been so blind? Why hadn't he listened to his heart before? Why had he been so afraid of what he had long suspected behind magic and illusions?
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Ladybug let go of the feline's hands, leaving them resting on her earrings and her gaze fixed on the feline's. His eyes were shining brightly and he seemed to be looking at her like she was the most important person in the world to him.
And at last I see the light
And it's like the fog has lifted
Chat Noir smiles all the more at the young woman and gently withdraws his hands from her miraculous, to take hers in turn. He winked at her and put his partner's fingers on her ring. He saw her eyes widen slightly before smiling even softer, a sparkle in the back of her eyes.
And at last I see the light
And it's like the sky is new
Ladybug took off Chat Noir's ring. Chat Noir removed Ladybug's earrings. Two flashes of light, mixed green and pink, illuminated the sky in turn, breaking down the last barriers that remained still between the two lovers.
Marinette smiles at Adrien and Adrien smiles at Marinette.
And it's warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Tikki and Plagg had moved away as soon as they had left their respective miraculous, to leave their carriers a little privacy. The Kwamis had waited so long for this moment. They had seen their humans dream of it. They had seen them suffer. They could not prevent them from moving away but they knew that, like magnets, they could only come back to each other. Two sides of the same coin, two halves of a whole.
Today, the Goddess of Creation and the God of Destruction were finally witnessing the happy ending they had desired for wearers for so long.
All at once everything is different
Now that I see you
Now that I see you
As the sky continued to shine with a thousand bursts of light, as the masks finally crumbled to dust, the two beings that life had experienced for long years exchanged finally a sweet kiss. A sweet kiss of sincere love. A kiss that reminds us that love remains the most beautiful thing that exists on Earth…
The end
