"I'll make it up to you, i promise," Bose vowed, waiting for a reply on the other end. Mika stayed silent sadly holding the phone to her ear. "I know, but it just won't be the same," She sighed. They were supposed to be celebrating their one-year anniversary together in three days and Bose had just told her that he wouldn't be able to come see her because the Hero League had extended his stationing. They hadn't seen each other in about six months and it killed them being away from each other for so long.
They'd both been too busy with work in the superhero world to spend any real time together over the last couple of months. Mika could only remember three times they've had a 'date'; which was just them virtually video chatting for hours while watching a movie and eating take out. She looked forward to them and it'd have her in the best mood for the rest of the week but it was nothing compared to when she could actually feel his touch, cuddle into him, and kiss him all she wanted. Bose felt the same way so when he had to tell her he couldn't be there in person to celebrate their anniversary, it pained him to hear how dejected she was.
"It's fine Bose, yeah I'm a little upset but i understand," Mika admitted getting ready for bed, unlike Bose who had just woken up. Different time zones sucked.
"I'm sorry, precious," He apologized again. Their one year was supposed to be the weekend he'd see his favorite girl and do all the lovey-dovey stuff they'd missed out on. Sure he also missed his family but he'd always miss Mika more.
Ever since he left, she's been counting down the days she'd see him again then suddenly all she wanted to do was crawl under her covers and avoid everyone and everything. "It's okay honey, i just miss you that's all," Mika claimed, resting her head on her pillow. She knew it wasn't his fault and didn't wanna make him feel worse than he already did. It was quite on the other end for a few seconds before he spoke, "I miss you too Mika, more than you'll ever know,". Mika smiled hearing those words, her heart feeling a lot less heavy.
Bose looked at his alarm clock and realized if he didn't get up soon he'd be running late. "Look i gotta go..." He trailed off. "I know," Mika huffed. "But I'll be thinking about you the whole day," He added. Mika chuckled pulling her covers over her. " Okay, goodnight- well technically it's good morning over there but whatever," She joked. Bose laughed, "Bye, i love you," he made a 'muah' sound which Mika returned before hanging up.
When she no longer felt his presence, she looked around the silent room, she felt alone once more.

Walking the halls of her building apartment three days later, Mika chatted on the phone with Chapa. "Are you sure you don't wanna do anything fun tonight instead of moping around waiting for Bose to call you?" Chapa asked again sipping on her drink. " Even if i wanted to, which i don't, i can't, Bose is gonna call me in two hours and i don't wanna miss it, especially not today," Mika explained. "I'm really sorry he couldn't be here, Mika," Chapa sympathized. Everyone knew how excited she was. "Hey, what can you do huh?" She brushed off.
When Mika woke up this morning she had already gotten a very heartfelt voice message from Bose wishing them a happy one year in which she gave back her own, grateful she didn't have to wait all day for one.
Now here she was, after a long day of work; she made it to her front door fishing in her purse for the keys to her apartment. "Well I gotta go, but I'll tell you how it goes tomorrow," Mika found her key. "Okay, but try not to be too upset alright, kid," Chapa disclosed. "I'll try, bye," Mika jammed the key into the doorknob and hung up the phone. She'd kind of been dreading this whole day the last two days because she had to keep reminding herself that she wasn't going to see Bose in person. Mika sighed, turned the key, and pushed the door open.
She took her shoes off, without bothering to turn the lights on; letting the window wall do that from outside, dropped her purse on the nearest table along with her keys, not paying much attention to her surroundings. This is why at first glance she didn't notice what was right in her face. It was when she took her last heel off she saw the candle lights, blankets that laid open on the floor with slight drapes; packed with pillows, silverware, and flowers; all in the middle of her living room. Everything was beautifully arranged so that even inside the comfort of her home, she sees the night sky glow with the bright city lights of Swellview.
"What? Was this not expected?," Mika heard a voice from the kitchen island not too far away from the setting. She was utterly confused and surprised when she saw the brown-haired boy charmingly beaming with a single rose in his hand pointing at her. Mika was suddenly overcome with joy when she realized she wasn't imagining things, Bose was right in front of her.
Bose couldn't even begin to describe how his heartbeat stopped for a second when, in his eyes, the most beautiful person in the world was less than eight feet away. He saw that she went through a couple of stages of denial before returning the gesture with a bright grin of her own. Before he could make his way to her, she had nearly tackled Bose to the ground with the amount of force she threw herself at him. Bose immediately caught her in his arms as she squealed. "You're here!" She tightly held onto him wrapping her legs around his waist even more. "I am," He pressed a hard kiss on the side side of her head gently holding the back of it, remembering how much he missed the feel of her curls.
Feeling each other's touch after so long of craving it was like rain coming down in a desert drought. Refreshing and overwhelming. She jumped down from him back to her smaller height with the brightest smile on her face fully taking him in. She started rambling and asking all sorts of questions too excited to give him any time to answer.
"How are you here?!"
"When did you get here?!"
"I thought you couldn't make it?!"
"What about the Hero Leauge?!"
"Oh my gosh!"
"Is this-"Mika was saying before Bose cut her off. " Wow, I'd really like to answer your questions when i get the chance!" He shook her playfully and Mika laughed reaching her hands out to him.
"But first..." Bose trailed off bringing her closer to him, cuffing the side of her face, and planted a soft kiss on her lips as Mika tip-toed a little to reach him. Their first kiss in what seemed like forever and now what they desired to last a lifetime. Mika didn't think that after this she'd ever be able to stop smiling. When Bose pulled away from her lips he gave her another charming smile that never failed to give her butterflies. He kept his hand on her cheek while his other hand held the rose. He told her that Ray had unexpectedly pulled a couple of strings for him and he said he'd take care of it.
Miles was the one who told Ray about how upset Bose and Mika were that they couldn't see each other for their one year. So, Ray being their biggest supporter, convinced the Hero Leauge to let him come for a day or two. By convinced-he heavily annoyed them and called the head of the HL a 'love killer'.
Mika laughed again and reached her hand up to feel his hair; which was now shoulder-length, "Your hair's longer,". Bose chuckled enjoying her small fingers running through it. "Yeah, Did you know that happens over time?," He jested. Mika missed his humor but him even more. Bose loved making her laugh, it was one of his top favorite things to do because when she was happy everything in the world seemed right. He brought Mika's hand down from his hair to his lips and pressed a kiss on her knuckles. Mika was flustered at the gesture.
Bose leaned his head down so it was touching her forehead, bringing the rose up to her face, and softly said, "Happy one year, Mika,". She picked the rose from his hand still keeping eye contact all while restaining a huge grin on her face, "Happy one year, Bose,". Bose flashed her a smile and kissed the top of her head before taking her hand and guiding her over excitedly to the candlelight scenery he had made along with the dinner, just for their special day.
They quickly got comfortable, attaching themselves to each other every chance they got. Bose playfully threw a pillow at her to catch and she hit him with it. She quickly went to cuddle him after and Bose embraced her right away along with the warmth she provided. Mika pushed her head up a little to give him a quick peck on the lips but he held the kiss longer, savoring the moment. "I missed this," He said with his arm wrapped around her as they sat on the blanket pressing their back onto the couch, holding each other. "Me too," Mika agreed.
Bose passed her a chocolate strawberry and noticed the twinkle in her eyes when the dimmed lighting flared. He stroked her cheek studying her. How lucky was he to end up with a girl like her? Mika was studying him too, thinking the same as he. No one compared to Bose in her eyes, ever since they met he'd become the sunshine in her life.
Mika gazed at a candle in front of them and moved over so she could bring it back to them. She wanted to wish that this moment could last forever, but unfortunately, she knew it wouldn't. Therefore she wished for the next best thing, it was more a guarantee than a wish. She wished that that for the remainder of their years, no matter what life threw at her and Bose, they'd be by each other's side. With that, she blew out the candle.
Bose didn't ask any questions as she put the candle down and sunk back into him.
Bose rested his head on top of hers and softly kissed the top of Mika's head again.
"I love you, you know that right?" He whispered.
"I do, and i love you too," She peacefully sighed.
Forgetting that this could be their last time being together, like this, for a while. They'd make the most of now. Bose and Mika closed their eye's taking in the quietness around them. For a whole minute, they were the only two people on planet Earth...and that was still enough.
