Prologue
Heat.
Smoke.
Fire.
Fear.
Pain.
That was all the young girl could register in her mind. She sat curled up in a ball, holding onto a small, tattered teddy, too afraid to move. The screams of her dying family members echoed in her mind. Her overwhelming fear barely shielded her from the emotions of her family.
"Prim!"
Derek Hale came rushing into his younger cousin's room, struggling for breath. Seeing the small brunette curled up in fear her eyes squeezed shut, he reached his arms out towards her. He collected her in his arms as she began screaming and crying uncontrollably as if his movement had shocked her back into reality.
"Daddy! Help! Where's Daddy?"
Too afraid and unsure how to answer the girl, Derek ran through the burning house, his heart heavy with guilt. Upon seeing Laura, his sister, Derek moved faster, eager to get away from the catastrophe that would haunt the family for years to come.
A/N: Hi, I've started writing again and have decided to start publishing a teen wolf fanfiction. I am also publishing it on my Wattpad account, which is tea-1112, this story should not be anywhere else. This is the prologue to Distance, it is short but the actual chapters will be longer.
