A/N: 1) All the Hilary fans, forgive me in advance. You may not be too pleased after reading this*sweatdrops* But believe me, it's just a plot and I don't intend to offend anyone.
2) Voltaire is good in this fic…..or is he?

CHAPTER 1: REPENTANCE
The dual-haired ex-captain of the Blade-Breakers was lying on his king-sized bed. Head resting on his right arm, he was staring blankly at the cerulean ceiling. Somehow, that color, that blue had imprinted itself on his heart. Exactly one month ago, he had lost her, lost her forever…
Not long before, they had confessed each other; pouring their hearts out, dismissing all regrets, crossing all boundaries, they had promised to stay by each-others' side always. Yet, he had failed, to fulfill it, to save her and be by her side for the last time.
He was surrounded in the dark aura of Repentance.
Flashback-
Kai and Hilary were sitting on lush green turf of the hilltop, enjoying the serene sunset. She was to depart for Miami the next morning. She was going for a week to visit a friend. So they thought it best to spend some time together.
"Kai", she said looking directly in his calm amethysts, "Will you miss me?"
"The ones we love are always in our hearts, they are not missed Hilary" was his soothing reply.
"No doubt you can turn the tables so easily" she smiled and let her head rest on his shoulder, devouring the sun with her rubies as if she'll never experience it again.
He was hesitant, so was she. Both sensed something bad coming up. But, didn't utter a word to not fill the other's heart with unwanted fears. So beautiful was their bond.
(2)At the Grangers' dojo-
"Hey guys, any idea when Tyson and Hilary are gonna return? It's been quite long and the airport isn't that far from here." Ray asked to no one but everyone.
"Guess you are right Ray", Max and Kenny who were sitting on the couch answered in unison.
Kai was in his usual posture- leaning against the wall, eyes closed, hands folded near his chest. He had been worried for the same. However, brilliant his control was, his face didn't give a hint of it. "I'll check once", he finally spoke, motioning outside.
Just then the door opened, revealing a figure. His eyes bloodshot and cheeks puffy, as if he had been crying bitterly. He was none other than Tyson! Sobbing every now and then.
Seeing him in this condition, they rushed, making him sit and drink some water. "Tyson, what's the matter? Where is Hilary? You went to pick her from the airport, right?" Kai's voice was full of concern for his friend and girlfriend.
"Hils…is…no more. A…accident, car went off…off the cliff." Reluctant as they were, these words left his mouth, leaving everyone petrified.
Kai felt a thousand daggers stabbing his heart relentlessly. His moon-toned face paled at Tyson's sudden declaration. He quickly got up and left for his mansion.

Kai was broken from his reverie by a loud buzz on his phone. He checked the time as he remembered having an urgent meeting with Voltaire. It was scheduled at 10, while the clock had striked 9:30 already. Unwillingly, he picked up the call, only to confront a frustrated Tala.
"When do you think are you going to show up Mr Sourpuss? Your grandfather will eat us alive, otherwise."
"Fifteen minutes from this moment" he replied coldly.
"That's fine. I'm coming at your place, we'll go together." And the red-headed Russian hung the call.
While someone was drowning in his grief in one part of the world, someone else had successfully mastered to hide it, deep down in her heart and mask it with a vibrant smile in another part of it.
In France, stood an exquisite Preston hollow chateau-style luxury mansion. The entire mansion furnished with polished marble floor and elegant décor. The living room was large and airy. It contained two curved staircases that merged at the center before diverging and leading to the first floor. Intricately carved railings and architectural columns lay on the verandah. Standing near them, one could get a complete view of the hall beneath.
On the first floor was a room, probably the best one in the entire mansion. It was simple with baby pink walls, one of which was filled with photos of a brunette; creatively arranged and clicked at every stage of her life. A queen-sized bed having matching baby pink beddings was attached to the wall opposite the entrance door. Thin golden pillars stood at each corner of the bed, wrapped in beautiful black and golden satin curtains. A large dressing table completed the overall setup.
In front of the mirror, sat a brunette, brushing her waist-length deep coffee brown tresses. She was dressed in a greyish-navy blue short sleeved tea length formal dress that reached just below her knees. Laced sleeves started a bit over her cleavage, ending above her elbows.
A maid knocked at the door. "Come in Della" she softly spoke, still brushing her thick and silky hair.
"Lady Eveline. Monsieur Gabriel has returned from Japan. And waiting for you at the breakfast table. You are requested to present yourself as soon as you are ready"
"Oh what! Uncle Gabriel has returned. Why wasn't I informed earlier? I'll be there this very moment!" She exclaimed in excitement and rushed outside as swiftly as a doe.
"You never fail to surprise us, my lady" Della sighed and left the room herself.
Kai and Tala stepped out of the ocean blue Maserati in the parking lot of the Hiwatari Enterprises. Tala was clad in a formal black tracksuit and white sports shoes. While Kai was wearing a shawl-collared, navy-melange T-shirt; with casual black denims and matching sports shoes.
They entered the office of Voltaire Hiwatari, the CEO of this multinational corp only to find him desperately waiting. "Ah my children" his sugar-coated voice went on," you've finally decided to show up. Deserve a warm welcome, don't you?" sarcasm was clearly dripping from his tone.
"First, we are just ten minutes late. And second, we were stuck in the traffic" Kai replied rather bashfully.
"Remember my son, life is very fragile. So much so that the delay of even a few seconds can shatter it terribly."
"Sorry to interrupt Sir, but may we know the reason for summoning us at this hour and on an urgent basis?" Tala spoke, completely aware that the grandfather-son duo can enter into relentless arguments at the slightest provocation.
"Off course, off course Tala. I'm coming to that as well" he said, facing Kai.
"Kai, you've turned 24 already. Old-enough to takeover the company. You see, I'm old and tired now. Hence, I wish to give up everything and return to Russia. But for that…"
"I must marry." Kai completed the old man.
"You may not get tired of asking this a million times, but I do get sick of it grandfather! Can't you ask for anything else? And if this is what you've called me for, I am leaving" He was about to storm out of the chamber when Tala broke his silence.
"At least listen to him completely Kai. You know what, everyone is SO DAMN worried about you since the last four weeks. But YOU. ARE. OBLIVIOUS! Drowned so much in your grief that you got blind to the others. Locked yourself in your room. You hardly visit Tyson's dojo since then; almost zero contacts with me, Ray, Tyson, Max or literally anyone!" inhaling deeply, he continued "And what's the outcome Mr Sourpuss? Deteriorated your health, stopped blading, lost interest in reunions, huh? Just know this Kai, your laments are NOT going to bring her back. She is gone forever! Better move on. Find a girl, settle down- that's the best and only way to save you damnit. Else this crazy thing" he said pointing towards his heart," That Hilary softened with her love, will get as hard as a diamond soon. Mark my words!"
It was true. After Hilary's demise, Kai was becoming more of his earlier self. But this time, it would be impossible to turn him back into a normal person with normal feelings.
Kai was a bit startled by his best friend's sudden outburst. Yet, he faced Tala seething in anger.
"Don't you ever dare to bring her name Valkov! And as for you all, I am not interested in gaining your sympathies." Completely startling them both, he left the office.
I wish that I did not know

Dumbfounded, Voltaire and Tala sat in there discussing. "It's high time that he is given responsibilities before he falls prey to loneliness and addictions and depression."
"You are undoubtedly correct Sir; but we all have been trying to no avail. At the same time, his need for someone like Hilary can't be denied. Do you have someone in your mind?"
"I think Tala, Arianna's studies have finished recently. I had already sent for her, some days ago. She'll be at the airport in an hour. I want you to receive her and bring her here at the office. I would certainly like to exchange a few words with my grand-daughter. Now it's only she who can help her brother. And as for your second question, no one is as perfect for my grandson as Miss Eveline Alden."

It's my first time so pardon any mistakes. Also, my writing style is Passive oriented so please bear with it. I'll improve as we progress further ;)
This chap was Kai-centered. But no worries, you'll be properly introduced to Eveline and Arianna in the upcoming chapters :D
