Requiem

Note: This is set a year after The Balance. Sunnydale has been rebuilt, new people have moved in, and the destruction of Sunnydale has been written off as a massive earthquake.

Disclaimer: I don't own the Buffy and Angel characters, but the other characters and the plot are mine.

Summary: A parasite that infests the undead invades Sunnydale.

"Wow, it's been super quiet lately." Buffy said suddenly, in a clear attempt to shatter the oppressive silence. She looked at the others.

"Yeah it has, hasn't it?" Neil responded.

Willow and Xander did not respond, lost in their own thoughts.

Thoughts of those who had broken up with them.

They're still really bummed about Oz and Cordelia. Buffy thought.

But that's what happen when you cheat.

And she had been there to see it all.

Her, Oz, and Cordelia walked in on Xander and Willow making love in the college library. In a storeroom no less!

It was all downhill from there.

Now they were gone...to parts unknown.

Buffy looked at the other two members of their patrol.

Athena and Faith were walking several feet ahead of them, playfully bumping into each other and laughing.

At least someone is happy around here. Buffy mused.

They had been patrolling for three hours but found nothing and no one.

The monsters had been making themselves scarce.

"You would think they would emerge at some point. They still need to eat." Neil observed.

"They're probably learning our patrol patterns and keeping out of our way. We better vary it up." Buffy commented.

"Probably." Athena commented. She then paused to listen. The others paused as well.

"Do you he-" Athena started, before a blur ran into her and knocked her into a nearby crypt! The door shattered from her impact, and she vanished from view.

"ATHENA?!" Faith screamed. Xander and Willow froze in shock. The Slayers and Neil whirled on their attacker.

It was just a vampire!

The vampire was spasmodically approaching them, frothing at the mouth. It moved without warning, and with a vicious spin kick, struck Faith across the face, knocking her unconscious! She fell to the grass without a sound.

Then he turned on them.

"Oh boy." Buffy said nervously.
