This story does not have any connection to my previous story that I wrote: A love that never gives up. I was listening to the song Marry Me by Thomas Rhett and I realized that it fits with this storyline. I'm going to pretend that this is season 9 and Lucas is gonna marry Elizabeth. Now to make this clear I am 10000% team nathan but that doesn't mean I hate Lucas. This is going to be about Nathan struggling with letting Elizabeth go even though he thought he already let her go. It's Elizabeth's turn to fight for her true love. Will Elizabeth come to her senses and choose Nathan?
Elizabeth was getting ready for her date with Lucas. Like every Friday night, she put on a fancy dress, did her hair, and made sure she looked really nice. She like looking nice for Lucas. He would always tell her how beautiful she looked and she liked the attention. Although, as she was looking in the mirror to put her earnings in she couldn't help but feel empty. She just didn't feel like her true self. She remembered the almost date she had with Nathan. She didn't put on a fancy dress. Her normal look felt like that was the right move. She was able to feel like herself around nathan. She was always comfortable and she knew he would love her no matter what she wore. That's not how she felt with Lucas.
If she was being honest, the past year has made her feel like who she was in Hamilton. She came to Hope Valley for a reason. She liked who she had become when she came to what was once Coal Valley. It had a positive impact on her life and now she feels as though she is drifting back into her old self. And she did not like that.
There was a knock on the door and as she opened it there was Lucas. "Wow, you look beautiful."
Elizabeth couldn't help it. She loved how he made her feel important and beautiful. "Thank you! Ready to go?"
Elizabeth took Lucas' arm and got into his car. As they were driving into town, Elizabeth was surprised. Wear are we going? We normally eat at the saloon.
Lucas pulled up in front of the library and now Elizabeth knew. This date was gonna be different. She saw the candles inside and she had this feeling in her gut. And she knew that her feeling was right. Lucas is going to propose.
She didn't know what she was going to say. She cared for Lucas and maybe she even loved him. He made her feel special and he had helped her with he book. She almost felt pressured to be with him even though it was her choice to be with him.
They had a nice dinner and Lucas got up to turn on the music. "Care to dance?"
"Sure"
They got up and danced together until Lucas stopped the music. He made a long speech and to be honest Elizabeth wasn't paying attention. She knew what was coming. I have to say yes after everything he's done for me.
And then she looked down to see Lucas on one knee. "Elizabeth will you marry me?"
Lucas was a little disappointed to not see Elizabeth excited but he just thought she was shocked.
Well say something Elizabeth. "Yes, of course I'll marry you." She said it but not with enthusiasm.
Lucas put the gorgeous ring on her finger and kissed her with more passion than ever. Elizabeth didn't like it. She pulled away to stop it and she knew that she wanted to leave. "Let's go tell Rosemary"
Nathan was doing his rounds that night. He had a lot on his mind. It had been almost a year since Elizabeth said she wasn't in love with him. He knew that it was a lie coming straight from her mouth but he didn't blame her. I mean her husband was a Mountie and he died. Obviously she doesn't want to go through that again.
He was making sure all the doors were locked when he came to the library and saw all the candles. He looked in at the wrong time to see Lucas down on one knee. He felt as though someone had just punched him. He quickly ran home with tears running down his face.
"Uncle Nathan! You're home early!" Then she saw his face. "Uncle Nathan! What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine Allie. You need to go to bed now okay. I just need some time to think."
Allie knee this had to be because of Mrs. Thornton and she wasn't having it. She knew there was no point in arguing with her uncle. Instead, she just obeyed.
I promise: it will get happier. Nathan will no longer be heart broken at the end of this I promise!
