Three days of travel had finally brought Jaune Arc to the end of a remarkably tedious trek. A small bag of his possessions was flung over his shoulder as he marched on down the empty road. If only he hadn't missed the last bus, he'd probably already be in a warm bed right now. The excitement of seeing Beacon in the distance was quickly snuffed out of the teenager as a sudden downpour decided now would be a good time to start pouring. A brief clap of thunder made the boy quicken his pace.

Jaune cursed the fact that he hadn't even thought about bringing along an umbrella. Sure his hoodie was ok in light rain, but not a thunderstorm. He tried pulling the hood further over his already drenched head and marched on.

When the boy finally reached the front entrance of the school he stopped under the overhang to try and tidy himself up a bit. Pulling his hood down, he ran a hand through his blonde locks in an attempt to look somewhat presentable. He wiped a hand down his face, clearing off any lingering raindrops.

His hand reached for the door handle but stopped.

'Thump'

His heartbeat pounded loud and the thoughts of the past entered his head.

'You honestly believe you have a chance of getting into a hunters school?'

Shaking his head and steadying himself, he once again reached for the door only for it to be swung open.

"You're late." The stern voice spoke.

Jaune looked forward and saw a blonde women with glasses staring back. Recognising the vice principal of the school he had dreamed of going to for his whole life, Glynda Goodwitch. Glynda's face remained unchanged as she eyed the boy up.

"The entrance exams ended hours ago." She spoke harshly "If you truly wanted to join this school, then you would have gotten here with all the other students."

Jaune looked dumbfounded as he reached into his bag, retrieving a letter with the Beacon logo on. "Actually." He replied "The letter said the exams just had to take place on this day. It didn't specify a time." He grinned childishly.

She snatched the letter from the boys grip, eyes furiously scanning the paper. "Do you honestly believe that you're important enough to take up my time?" She sighed as she handed the letter back. "The students here aren't here to just play around." She stated "They have dedicated their lives to being the best they can be to prove themselves, that includes being punctual."

The blonde boy shrugged, placing the letter back in his bag "Like I said," A toothy grin appeared "I am punctual, the day hasn't ended yet, so therefore I still have time to take the exam."

Glynda sighed, clearly this kid wasn't taking no for an answer. She looked him up and down. 'He doesn't look like much' She thought, but then again he did get an invitational letter to the school, so he must be somewhat capable.

"I'll make you a deal." Goodwitch proposed "The time now is 19:30."

He nodded.

"If you can complete the exams before 21:00 I'll let you in." A sadistic smile creeped on to the Vice Principal "If you go over the given time limit then you'll be forced to leave this school."

"Okay." Jaune smiled "Lead the way, Miss."

The entrance exams were surprisingly easy the boy thought as he handed over his final paper to Glynda. The blonde woman's face grew more in shock as each paper was handed in.

"Well, Mister Arc." She looked up from the exam "You pass." Her voice was surprisingly pleasant and no longer seemed to harbour any more distaste for the boy.

Jaune stood frozen, disbelief overcoming the boy "You mean it?" He asked "This isn't some kind of joke is it?" Past memories flooding into the young boys mind.

Glynda stood up and faced him "100 percent."

The boy visibly eased up and let out a relief filled sigh. He had finally made it.

"However, there is still one more quiz you must take." She sat back down and slid open one of the drawers on her desk, pulling out a single sheet of paper.

Jaune examined the sheet closely "A multiple choice quiz." A confused voice spoke "Wait a minute..."

"Correct, there are no wrong answers." She explained "It is a simple personality test that we use to figure out what house you will belong to for the next four years."

With a quick nod, Jaune got to work filling out the test. Once he was finished he handed it to Glynda and waited for her response.

"Congratulations Jaune Arc, you are now part of House Vale. You care greatly for your friends and family and will do anything to defend them, blah blah blah." She droned on "Welcome to Beacon."

Jaune smiled proudly, he had got in! despite what others had said, he had done it.

"Now, if you would follow me, I will show you to the Vale dorms." She instructed while walking out of the room.

"Yes Miss!"

To say Weiss Schnee was angry would an understatement. Who ever it was disturbing her sleep by knocking on the common rooms entrance would pay. She angrily stormed towards the door, cursing the fact that she had the closest bedroom to the entrance. She flung the door open and stared at the cause of noise.

"What on earth do you think you're doing?" She questioned the tall blonde boy "Do you have any idea what time it is? What are you even doing here anyway?" The white haired girl bombarded.

Jaune had to keep his jaw from hitting the floor, a blush had snaked its way on to his cheeks and his eye were wide. 'Beautiful...' The word was the only thing he could think of. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on. Her long white hair flowing down her back matched her equally pale skin. Her icy blue eyes bore into the blonde teen, who in turn, averted his gaze from the girl.

"Well?" She pushed.

"Umm, My name is Jaune Arc and I'm part of House Vale." He explained, still not daring to look at the beauty before him. "I'd really like to just have a shower and sleep."

"Is everything okay here?" Came another voice from behind Weiss.

"I'm dealing with it." Weiss replied "Go back to bed Yang."

Jaune looked past the icy girl to see an absolute bombshell of a girl approaching. Her long mane of blonde hair bouncing with every step. Her black shorts and yellow top left nothing to the imagination. 'Why is every girl gorgeous?'

"Nope." Yang responded, popping the P "Hard to sleep with all your yelling, Ice Queen."

Weiss stammered on her words "Don't call me that! I was just dealing with this idiot." She gestured towards Jaune who waved at the fellow blonde.

Yang smiled at Jaune "Hey, don't worry about her." She pushed past Weiss and outstretched her hand "She gets moody when things don't go how she planned. My names Yang Xiao Long by the way."

"Jaune Arc." He took her invitation for the handshake "I don't mean to sound rude, but could you show me to my room?" He asked, the trip to Beacon had taken a lot out of him and it was catching up to him.

"Sure thing!"

Weiss was seething "You're not going anywhere until you apologise for waking me." She poked Jaune's chest.

"Weiss, I think you should go to your room." Yang spoke authoritatively. Her tone silencing the girl.

Weiss looked ready to retort but ended up walking away in a huff, not before shooting Jaune daggers.

"She... seems nice." Jaune let out 'Been here less than a day and I've already upset someone' He thought solemnly, walking into the Houses Dorm.

The dorm was a big rectangular room with several doors on each side. At the end of the room was a staircase leading up to what he assumed was more bedrooms. Next to the stairs where two doors. To the right of the entrance was a small kitchen area with a communal fridge and cooking equipment. Jaune was awestruck.

"Ah she'll warm up to you eventually." Yang's word ripped him from his wonder "Anyway come with me." She grabbed his hand and dragged him over to the stairs. "By the way I'm one of the Heads of Vale House so if you have any issues don't hesitate to ask." She smiled, leading him up the stairs.

"Y.. Yeah, thank you." He muttered, face a full blush.

The girl released his hand as they stopped by a door. Yang spun to face Jaune and smiled "This is your home for the next four years."

Jaune smiled back, his own room, he was finally at the starting point of journey. "Thank you again Yang." He said, reaching for the handle and opening the door.

"Don't sweat it." She replied, walking back to the staircase. "If you need anything my room is over there." She shot him a teasing wink "Don't be a stranger now."

"These girls are going to be the death of me..." He muttered to himself, while shutting the door behind him and turning on the light.

The room was a nice size, a double bed with a side table next to it, two windows being hammered by the rain outside, a wardrobe up against the left wall with a mirror next to it and a desk for studying and other activities. Jaune walked over to the wardrobe and proceeded to empty his bag of clothes.

Once he was done, he walked over the bed and collapsed.

"I did it..." He smiled softly, hand reaching up to the ceiling. He shut his eyes and lowered his hand. 'Yang was nice.' His smile faltered when Weiss entered his mind. "I'll apologise to her in the morning..." He sighed, unhappy he had already upset one of his dorm mates.

The boy looked at the clock on the side table and decided he would wake up early and find a shower, allowing sleep to take him now.

"I want to go to a Hunters school." The young voice spoke with confidence.

A man scoffed "Don't be ridiculous! You are to stay here and study so you can help your family."

"But!"

"I said no Weiss!"

Weiss woke up to her alarm going off and quickly silenced the ringing. Glancing down, it read 06:00. She flung her legs over the side of her bed and slid her feet into the pair of white slippers that awaited her. She gave a yawn as she gathered up a her shower supplies and leaving her room.

She always woke up earlier than most people, she liked to stick to a schedule. Wake up, shower, train, breakfast, class, train, homework and then sleep. Most people laughed at her for her strict regime, but who was at the top of their classes. Her!

She entered the shower and let the water wash over her lithe body. A soft sigh escaping her lips "Damn it..." She picked up the bottle of shampoo and proceeded to wash her hair. 'Why am I letting him control my life still. I'm at Beacon, I'm where I belong!'

The young girl finished her shower and wrapped her towel around her and started drying off. "Stick to the plan." She said to herself "Prove him wrong."

Once she was dry she got dressed in to a white combat skirt and tied her hair up in her usual off centred ponytail. When she was happy with herself she left the showers only to bump in to something big and hard, causing her to fall on her butt.

"Oh sorry." Came a familiar voice "Here." A hand came down to help her up.

"Thanks." She took the hand and looked up, seeing the annoying blonde boy from the previous night. Noticing that she was holding her hand she broke away and pulled herself up. A tint of red was seen on her cheeks "Watch where you're going. You Dolt!" She shot at the boy, refusing to meet his eyes.

"I said I was sorry." He clapped his hands together in an apologetic way "Let me make it up to you?" He offered.

Weiss just scoffed at the proposal "No chance. Do you even know who you're talking to?"

Jaune shrugged "Weiss?" He answered dumbly, causing the girl to get more angry.

"I am Weiss Schnee." She informed proudly "Heiress of the Schnee Dust Company."

"I've never heard of it..." He nervously scratched the back of his head.

"Don't play dumb, I know you're probably only after my wealth and fame." She turned to him "So don't bother even trying to make things 'right' with me." She spat before storming to her room.

She slammed her door shut and collapsed up against it. She didn't want to treat people like that, If she did she'd be no better than the man she's trying to prove wrong.

"I'm such an idiot."

"That sounded rough." A gentle voice spoke out from one of the chairs in the living room.

Jaune's eyes shifted to the voice and blues eyes met pink eyes. The voice belonged to a boy a few inches shorter than himself. The guys hair was long black with a single strip of magenta at the side. He wore a green tailcoat with a pair of light tan pants. The boy was currently sipping from a cup and reading a book.

"Hey, how long have you been there for?" Jaune questioned, confused as to how he didn't notice the boy sooner.

The teen shrugged "A while. My names Ren, Lie Ren." He gestured for Jaune to take a seat with him, which he obliged.

"Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you." He took a seat opposite him "Soooooooo, you saw that?"

"Hard not to with how loud you both were being." The ravenette smiled "I didn't see you yesterday with the rest of the Vale House."

"Ah, I was really late..." Jaune smiled sheepishly and explained how he missed the bus and was hours late.

Ren chuckled lightly "That's quite unfortunate, and you've already upset Schnee." He laughed "Your luck must be terrible."

"You don't know the half of it." Jaune playfully sighed. "So, why did you want to become a hunter?"

Ren closed his book and set it aside. "You do realise you shouldn't ask someone their reasons for wanting to be a Hunter right?"

"Oh, I didn't know, sorry..." He frowned.

"It's fine." Ren waved the boys apology off "Everyone has their reasons that push them forward in this world. Some have things to prove while others want to help the world become a better place. Some want money, some want fame, some want to live their lives with adventure." He explained to the clueless blonde "It's become an unspoken law that you only tell people your reasons if you truly trust them to look out for you."

"I think I understand." Jaune nodded "But what do you mean truly trust them, shouldn't I put my faith in everyone in Vale."

Ren shook his head "Trust is something earned. There are people that will use you for their own benefit and end up getting you killed." He continued "Hunters lead a dangerous yet rewarding life and some hunters will attack others that are doing better than them."

"Oh..." Jaune sounded disappointed. He finally thought he could try to make friends, but was having second guesses knowing anyone could just backstab him. "Well I'm hoping I can make some actual friends here then."

Ren smiled "You wont have to worry about that in House Vale, but I would watch out for House Vacuo." He warned.

"Look alive Vale!" Yang's voice boomed through the common room.

Jaune hadn't noticed it, but while he was talking with Ren most of the students had emerged from their rooms and started to get on with their morning routines.

Yang noticed Jaune and happily hopped over "Hey there Jaune." She smiled.

"Hey Yang" He greeted blonde bombshell.

She grinned "Just need to tell you that classes start on Monday, so I thought we could have a little Vale party tonight." She beamed "You know, to break the ice with everyone."

"Sounds like a good idea." Ren spoke up, causing the girl to jump in fright.

"How long have you been there?!"

"I've been here the whole time!" He defended himself.

Jaune just smiled 'What have I gotten myself in to?'
