Hi! I thought it would be really cool to see how different crews from Star Trek would interact with each other, so I wrote this game show format to switch up the Enterprise and Voyager.
More chapters to come soon.
Also, yes, I have many opinions about these characters (good and bad) and they will be very apparent within this story. Let's call it cleansing.
Enjoy!
"Welcome Ladies, Gents, and Gender Ambiguous Creatures, to Star Trek; Good and Bad! I am your wonderful host Q, ready to tell you the story of the best and worst parts of two mediocre ships. Of course, I am referring to the Enterprise-D and the starship Voyager. In the next 24 hours, I will brilliantly switch up the two ships and their crews. The bad crew, who will be in charge of Voyager, will have to face many challenges and obstacles, many which will be designed for their failure. Meanwhile, the "good ship" (if you can call any of these humans good) will be watching, helpless, from the Enterprise-D, forced to witness the ultimate undoing of their fellow crew members. Face palming as Voyager makes mistake after mistake, trying to escape my challenges. I will also be using the assistance, or lack thereof, of Reginald Barclay, who will be in charge of tech problems. Speaking of which, Barclay, why have the ships not arrived yet?"
Q's voice rang throughout the ships of the Enterprise-D and the starship Voyager, causing confusion and chaos on both ships. Next, Barclay could be heard through the comm, but neither Data nor Harry Kim could locate the source of the communication.
"Well, umm, sir…" Barclay stuttered.
"You can address me as the Great Honorable All Knowing Q," Q told Barclay.
"Right umm, Great Honorable All Knowing Q, you're in charge of bringing the, umm, the two ships here."
"Hmm, that's right, must have slipped my mind. Don't worry, Mr. Barclay…"
"It's Lieutenant Barclay," Barclay tried to remind Q.
"Of course, Mr. Barclay, please forgive me. I've just beckoned the ships here. And right on cue, here they are!"
Both ships were suddenly transported to a spot in the Alpha Quadrant, although neither ship could seem to find exactly where they were and how they could find a way home. During the relocation, some of the crewmembers from each ship had been relocated themselves and were aboard the opposite ship.
Q suddenly appeared on the Enterprise and began to address the crew. He was dressed in a suit and was holding a microphone, though his voice certainly didn't need artificial means of amplification.
"First I shall introduce the "Good" ship, if you will, aboard the Enterprise-D. Captained by the insufferable Jean-Luc Picard. Don't be shy, Jean-Luc, introduce yourself," Q said into the microphone. A spotlight with no apparent source flashed down onto Picard, putting all the focus on him.
"What the hell is this, Q? We don't have time for your games," Picard asked, standing up from his chair and readjusting his shirt.
"I know for a fact that at this moment, your crew is supposed to be doing a survey of a nearby asteroid belt. Don't be foolish, you have plenty of time."
"Q -" Picard began.
"At the end of all of this, I'll return you. So sit back! Try to relax! You're going to love this," Q interrupted.
Picard sat down with a sigh. "I highly doubt that."
"Now onto the rest of the crew! Not everything's about you Jean-Luc. Barclay, please move the spotlight. You've missed your cue."
"S-sorry," Barclay stammered over the comm. Shortly after, the spotlight had been moved off of Picard and onto the new first officer.
"Took you long enough. Introducing Commander Chakotay! One name and don't you forget it.
Chakotay gently looked Q in the eye, not amused. "We won't be playing any of your games, Q. Please return us."
"5/10 for manners. -100/10 for requesting return. Really, Chakotay, I expected better. We've also got Data, Geordi LaForge, the Doctor - no back talking please, and don't you roll your eyes at me Doctor - as well as Tuvok. O'Brian is also here to help. And Seven of Nine, the Borg herself, is here as well!" Q spun around the bridge, pointing at all the notable officers. Suddenly, Guinan stepped out of a dark corner to make herself known. "And Guinan, how did you get here? I was sure that you'd be on the bad ship."
"Leave us alone, Q," Guinan instructed, her quiet voice filled with intimidation. Q, seemingly unimpressed by her request, rolled his eyes.
"Uggh. Now, we also have a number of unnamed ensigns aboard both ships, most of which will likely die by the end of today. Their deaths will be unmentioned by the rest of the crew. So good luck to them."
"What are we doing here, Q?" Picard inquired, ignoring Q's previous comment.
"I'm glad you asked." Q beamed, a spark of mischief in his eyes. "Your ship will be watching and commenting as the bad ship miserably fails to complete my test. The bad crew is aboard the starship Voyager at this very moment. Speaking of which, let's make our way over to Voyager!
With a flash of extravagant light, Q disappeared from the Enterprise and appeared shortly afterwards on the empty bridge of Voyager. Q, however, did not seem fazed by the mysterious lack of crew.
"Now," Q addressed the viewer, "As I introduce the members of the bad crew, each crew member will walk onto the bridge from the turbolift as obnoxious fanfare plays in the background. Similar to episode 2.14 of Voyager known as 'Alliances.' 10/10 would recommend. Ok Mr. Barclay, are we ready?"
"Yes, sir. I, umm, I mean, Great Honorable All Knowing Q," Barclay's disembodied voice answered.
Q smiled with fake modesty. "You flatter me, Barclay. Now first up we have Captain Kathryn Janeway, so please enter the bridge."
Janeway entered the bridge and, as promised, obnoxious fanfare played in the background. After sitting down in the captain's chair dramatically, she asked, "What the hell are we doing here, Q?
"Kathy! I'm glad to see you too. Jean-Luc just asked the same question actually. You captains are all the same aggravating and selfish humans." Q ignored her question and turned his attention once more to the turbolift. "Next we have Commander William Riker, also known as Riker-boy. Then there's Tom Paris, Harry Kim, and B'Elanna Torres. Boring! Doctor Beverly Crusher will also be adding to the awfulness. Worf is here as well because we needed a security officer and Yar happens to be dead. He would be on the good ship otherwise. Finally, and excuse my tone, but Deanna Troi will accompany us. Unfortunately. Believe me, I hate her too."
As each entered, the fanfare continued, causing mixed reactions of disgust, embarrassment, and confusion from the crew. When Deanna entered, the fanfare faded out. Unable to find her usual seat next to the captain like on the Enterprise, Deanna sat cross-legged on the floor below Janeway with humiliation.
Suddenly, Neelix rushed from the turbolift. Q looked at him with genuine surprise.
"Excuse me, Q, but you haven't mentioned me yet! Probably just an oversight on your part I'm sure. I can be very valuable!" Neelix started to list off his skillset but was interrupted by Q.
"The Talaxian is here?" Q whined to himself. "Ugh I forgot about him. Well, Neela -"
"It's Neelix," Neelix corrected.
"Whatever. You can cook right? Go do that please."
Neelix beamed. "I am honored! I will make a delicious meal for both crews. These people sure need a moral boost and I know just the meal for the occasion."
"Good luck with that. Now, are there any other questions?"
Janeway shook her head with disbelief. "So many questions, Q. So many."
"We won't entertain you Q." Riker spoke as if his words were the most important in the world.
"Oh shut up, all of you. Well, to answer your question from earlier Janeway, I will be giving your new crew a test of sorts. Multiple challenges designed for your failure. The rest of your crews are aboard the Enterprise-D, watching your demise. The test will commence in 5 minutes.
"Well this oughta be fun," Tom commented in his usual joking manner.
"The only question is: what are the tests gonna be? And how will we escape?" Janeway questioned, seemingly to herself.
"Those are two questions, Kathy. And I suppose we'll just have to find out. Before we go to the first challenge, let's move over to the other crew and ask a couple questions." Q disappeared with a flourish of his hands, leaving the newly-formed crew of Voyager stunned.
Q appeared on the Enterprise to find Picard addressing his crew on ways to escape Q's game. Ignoring the current state of the bridge, Q interrupted to ask their thoughts on the matter.
"Picard and others: thoughts?"
Picard stopped speaking to look at Q with annoyance. "Put us back, Q. And if you won't let us go, at least let us continue with our meeting."
"Unfortunately, I can't follow through on either of those requests. But I do want to hear the rest of your thoughts! Feel free to express your true opinions."
"This will be…interesting," Chakotay spoke up first.
"The challenge is highly illogical," Tuvok responded coldly.
"I find the test to be a waste of time," Seven expressed.
Data scanned the room with confusion. "I fail to understand how this test of sorts will bring you amusement."
Q laughed. "Thank you all for your thoughts! Finally, what you've all been waiting for, let the test begin!"
