"What the fu.." he stopped the moment he stepped into the room. To a room where were about twenty Carters. Just a guess. Simply too much even for his taste. And even more blue jell-o all around the room. When he heard that they had a certain situation in the SGC he could imagine everything. Everything but this.
He blinked. He rubbed his eyes. No. No change. He still saw too many of them.
"Um, Carter?"
They all turned in his direction. Subsequent Jack. General was almost deafening. He took a few steps back as they headed for him. All Carters!
"Aah" raised his hands "stop, time-out."
He looked around for the real Carter. His Sam. He might as well have tried to understand her - their - technical nonsense. After all, they were all exactly the same, for crying out loud!
"All right, everyone back. Now."
Another Carter came into his field of vision. This Carter is looking very tired and exhausted.
"Carter?" he frowned.
"Yes?"
Came the answer from all of them, and Jack was beginning to feel the first signs of a headache.
"All right, all Carters, listen to me now," he began, noticing Sam smiling in front of him. Bingo!
"I just want to talk to this Carter," he pointed out, "the rest of you keep doing what you did before I came. Which was, I guess the solution to this," he circled the room with his hand.
There were more smiles on other faces. He blinked again. "Oh, for crying out loud," he muttered, "just. Just put your heads together. If so many Carters think, it's impossible not to come up with something. "
He nodded at Sam in front of him and she followed him out of the room.
"If it were possible," he began as they locked themselves in her lab, "I'll say I took a drug in the morning instead of aspirin, and now I see not twice, but…" "It's real," she interrupted, "they are really here."
He just opened and closed his mouth for a moment, "How?"
She smiled. "Let's say it has something to do with a black hole that draws all the wormholes and redirects them to us. That's why all SG-1 ends here. " She waited until he had processed what she had just told him.
"So all those Carters are from where?"
"From parallel universes. Remember Dr. Carter? Daniel, who got into a parallel universe and thanks to that we were able to save the planet from Apophis?"
"But it was a mirror," he said, and she knew he was completely confused. "Quantum mirror, yes. Look, thanks to the wormhole, we got into the past because we passed the sun which the wormhole formed was running…"
"Yeah, the storm or whatever it was."
She suppressed a smile "This is very similar, except that the wormhole is affected by a black hole, which we coincidentally created."
He raised his hand, squeezed the bridge of his nose, and closed his eyes "Jack?"
"Tell me you know how to get them all back," he muttered without opening his eyes.
"We're working on it," she assured him.
"We?" He looked at her. "Oh, sure. All of you Carter."
"Right," she nodded.
"Great, because although it may seem very tempting from my point of view, so many Carters ..."
She folded her arms. "Just keep going if you want to get hurt."
"I'm happy enough with only one Carter" he finished his thought with a slight smile.
"A clever move. Because I'm not going to share you. Even with myself"
He laughed. "But it's you. You are the real Sam. "
"Basically, we're all real."
"Sam!"
She smiled. "Yes, Jack. It's me."
"Well," he nodded, looking into her eyes, "um, I guess I should go and let you work. Will you call me at any free time, how are you doing and if I should wait for dinner today? "
"If there's a spare moment," she sighed, "honestly, I'm afraid I won't make it so fast. I probably won't get home today and a few more days."
He nodded. "Save the world " he smiled "I'll stay a few days, maybe we can find some time if we're lucky. However, I think I will stay away from the base."
"Aren't you afraid of me, General, are you?" she laughed.
"You specifically? No. The others, a little, especially when I can't tell you are my Sam when I see them all."
He packed the last few things and zipped up his sports bag. He has to go back to DC tomorrow morning, and Sam hasn't gotten home in those few days. Sometimes she could find a minute or two and call him as they progressed. The last call was very fast, she was about to leave and, according to her, end this whole circus and send the others back home. Did it work? He had no idea. Neither she nor Landry had called him yet. Either way, he'll find out tomorrow as soon as he returns to his office. He was a little sorry that he couldn't spend more time with Sam. But it was a fact he couldn't do anything about. The distance relationship with theire work was more than complicated, but they both agreed a long ago that it was still exactly what they wanted. He carried his bag to the door and then returned to her bedroom to get some sleep. After all, he has to get up early because of the flight.
Sam quietly opened the door. It was nine o'clock in the morning and she finally got home after an infinitely long time. She was exhausted, tired but happy because everyone was back in their realities and she could finally sleep. She looked around, but was stung with regret that there was nothing in the hallway to indicate that Jack was still here. In fact, he said he had to leave early in the morning. With a sigh, she took off her coat and her shoes. Sometimes it was really difficult to come to terms with the fact that even though they were once again in the same state, they did not spend a single minute alone. She didn't count the time in the lab, not with the camera behind her ass. She went to the kitchen and noticed that Jack had prepared a coffee machine before he left, so all she had to do was turn it on and she had coffee. She smiled, and then her gaze fell on the note lying on the table. She reached for it and read Jack's unmistakable handwriting.
Sam, I've been waiting until the last possible minute if you don't come back. I'm sorry we didn't make it this time. Maybe soon we will find some free weekend, which we will really spend together. Call me as soon as you get home. Especially if you're okay.
See you soon.
I love you.
Jack
She put the note back on the table and reached into her purse, which she left on a chair for her cell phone. It only needed to ring once.
"Sam?"
"Hi, Jack," she smiled as she turned on the coffee machine "thanks for making coffee."
"Ah, it was nothing. Are you okay?"
"I'm tired, but yes. I'm fine. And I'm the only Carter in our universe again. " "Thank God," he breathed, "I mean, don't get me wrong, the IQ of our planet would be the largest in two galaxies with so many Carters, but I need only one Carter."
She shook her head with a smile. "I'm sorry I didn't get home sooner."
"Sam, you have nothing to apologize for. You saved a world, actually several worlds."
"Yeah you're right," she agreed, "I just… miss you, that's all."
"Yeah, I know Sam. Hold on for a while."
She listened to him talk to someone, and it was clear that their conversation was over.
"Sam, I'm sorry I'll have to finish. Rest, get some sleep and I'll call you tonight, okay? "
"You mean tonight for you or for me?"
He laughed. "Eight hours my time. Six hours your time."
"Okay," she nodded with a smile.
"I am glad that you are alright."
"Jack?"
"Hm?"
"I love you."
"So do I, Sam. Go to sleep. I'll call tonight."
She hung up, picked up a cup of finished coffee, and leaned against the kitchen counter. She drank a little and closed her eyes contentedly as the taste of coffee filled her mouth. This was no doubt an interesting few days, she thought as she headed for the bedroom and fell straight to bed without undressing. She slept soundly in a few minutes.
