Chicago Fire: What If? – Matt and Gabby
This series is a series of one shots. I will be taking actual scenes from the show and then asking the question what if and will then write out the what if scene. These will all be incidents between Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson. I will be starting with Season 1 episode 1 and will continue from there. The actual dialogue from the show will be included for simplicity sake so those will not be my own words but the played out what if scene is all mine.

Season 1 Episode 1 Scene 1
Gabby puts her stuff in the passenger front seat of her car and closes the door. She begins to walk around the front of the car towards the driver seat when Matt walks towards her.
Matt: You okay, Dawson?
Gabby: Uh, of course, yeah, yeah. It's, uh... [sighs] some days, you know? Forget it. It's all good. You?
Matt smiles shyly and moves his hands.
Gabby: Uh, listen, some of us are going over to Buzzard's tomorrow night if you and Hallie wanna come.
Matt: We would, but, uh, we do a date night thing. Just us. But maybe we'll try.
Gabby: Yeah, sure, that sounds nice.
What If?

Matt: You okay, Dawson?
Gabby: Uh, of course, yeah, yeah. It's, uh... [sighs] some days, you know? Forget it. It's all good. You?
Matt smiles shyly and moves his hands.
Gabby: Uh, listen, some of us are going over to Buzzard's tomorrow night if you and Hallie wanna come.
Matt: Hallie and I broke up, but I would love to join you
Gabby: Oh, Matt, I'm so sorry to hear that about you and Hallie I mean. Are you okay?
Matt: I will be. A night out with the gang is exactly what I need though.
Gabby: Great, looking forward, I'll see you there.
Matt and Gabby each went into their own cars and drove off. As soon as she pulled away Gabby quickly called her best friend Shay, who picked up on the first ring and without waiting for Shay Gabby began nervously talking
Gabby: Help, help, 911 emergency.
Shay: Gabby are you okay? Whats going on? Whats the emergency?
Gabby: No, no I'm not okay. I asked Matt if he and Hallie want to join us at Buzzards tonight
Shay: Gabby, Matt I'm okay with, but Hallie really? Did you have to?
Gabby: Well then youll be happy to know that Matt and Hallie broke up and Matt agreed to join us tonight.
Shay: Finally, now he's free to be all yours so whats the problem?
Gabby: The problem is that now this feels very much like date, oh why did I have to ask him to come. When he was with Hallie and off limits it was one thing to fantasize about having him as a boyfriend but now… tonight is going to be pure torture.
Shay: Gabby your right this might be a date, that means we have to get you dressed all nice and sexy so Matt will finally notice you in that way.
Gabby: Shay!
Shay: Don't worry about a thing Gabby, I will be by your place in 10 minutes. Just make sure your door man knows to let me in this time.
Gabby: Very funny. That guy was not the door man, just my neighbor who has a crush on me. He felt bad for not letting you in, he claims he just wanted to protect me. But don't worry He's at work now anyway.
Shay: Okay great I'll see you soon.
Gabby: Bye
Shay: Bye
Gabby hung up the phone and quickly drove back to her apartment where Shay was already there waiting for her. They spent the next several hours, hanging out, eating dinner and getting Gabby all prettied up for her date with Matt. Gabby was extremely nervous as they drove to buzzards, but she was trying hard not show how anxious she was. The gang usually met there at 9 and Gabby and Shay had been running late because Shay kept changing up Gabby's outfit so they only got there at 9:30 so Gabby was relieved to notice that Matt had not shown up yet. Gabby went and found the group and for the next hour she made small talk. She had finally come to terms with the idea that Matt was not going to show up after all when at around 11 pm Matt showed up and quickly came over to where Gabby was standing.
Matt: Hey Dawson, thanks for inviting me.
Gabby: Of course, I'm so glad you were finally able to make it.
Kelly: Hey, Matt nice of you to join us. Where's Hallie
Matt: Uh, um, she wasn't able to make it tonight, maybe next time.
Kelly: That's okay, were glad you're here, but you can tell her we missed her
Matt: Thanks, I'll let her know. Hey Gabby, you have a minute?
Gabby: Of course. Whats up?
Matt: Would you mind if we spoke outside in private?
Gabby: Sure.
Matt turned around and started walking towards the door and Gabby followed him. On her way out she made eye contact with Shay who gave her a wink and Gabby smiled back. Once outside she turned to face him.
Gabby: Everything okay Casey?
Matt looks at her intently before leaning in and kissed her passionately. At first Gabby was surprised, but she had been waiting for this moment for so long that she excitedly returned the kiss. After several minutes she pulled away to catch her breath.
Matt: I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I don't know what I was thinking.
Gabby: It's okay Matt, don't worry about it.
Matt: Really?
Gabby: Yeah, unless you plan on getting back together with Hallie.
Matt: Hallie, no, that has been long over Gabby.
Gabby: Really? Why haven't you said anything?
Matt: The truth Gabby is that I'm in love with you, but I was so afraid that you wouldn't feel the same so I decided not to say anything because then everyone would assume I'm still with Hallie and I wouldn't do anything stupid with you.
Gabby: Matt I love you too.
Matt: Really?
Gabby: I've loved you for so long but I thought you were with Hallie so you were off limits.
Matt: I should have said something sooner.
Gabby: That would have been nice.
Matt: Hey, do you maybe want to get out of here? Come with me to my place?
Gabby: I would love that.
Gabby noticed Shay standing by the door and figured she had seen and heard the whole thing so she smiled at Shay as Matt took her hand in his and two of them walked off together towards his car.
