It was the day after the sports festival, Shoto Todoroki was in class having a mental dilemma. Was it really okay for him to use his left side? Izuku's words still echoed in his head.
"It's your power, isn't it?!" Izuku yelled, barely being able to stand.
His mother's words also echoed in his head.
"It's okay for you to become who you want to be." His mother told him.
He couldn't come to a conclusion though. He couldn't decide, whether or not it was okay for him to embrace his full power. Speaking of Midoriya, how much did he really know about him in the first place? Shoto couldn't even say he was friends with him. So why did he help him? Why did he butt into other peoples affairs? His mind quickly went to the attack at USJ, when Izuku jumped towards the nomu, when even All Might, the number 1 hero, was having trouble. He then came to a conclusion.
'It's in his nature, he can't help but be a hero, even when he's in danger.' Shoto thought.
That made him think of something, he was gonna visit his mother in a few days, why not let Midoriya meet her? He was sure she'd want to meet the person who made him use his left side, and if all went well, maybe he could even make her feel better. She never really got over her abusive relationship with his dad.
He'd decided on it. He was going to ask Midoriya to meet his mother. Though how would he ask him? He'd never had a conversation with Midoriya besides before and during their match. Plus, Midoriya wasn't exactly the most social person in the class. He was probably the most awkward and silent in the class, minus Koda, who didn't speak at all.
A few days pass by, and the school day is starting to end. Shoto was going to visit his mother today, in a few hours, to be specific. He'd built his relationship with Midoriya now. He now sat with Midoriya during lunch, and began to converse with him and his friends more often. As everybody started to leave the classroom to go home, Shoto asked Midoriya to stay behind, which probably wasn't the best option, considering how awkward he was.
"Midoriya."
"Y-Yes, Todoroki-san?" Izuku asked, letting his introverted side get the best of him.
"I wanted to thank you, for helping me use my left side, if it weren't for you, I'd still be acting foolsih." Todoroki thanked him.
Izuku, now knowing what this was about, grew a bit more confident.
"It's no problem, I don't completely know your circumstances but, I think that meddling when you don't need to is the essence of being a hero!" Izuku said confidently with a grin.
Shoto just stared at him in confusion, and Izuku just blushed in embarrassment once he realized that he made a fool of himself in front of Todoroki.
"Anyway, I wan't you to meet my mother." Shoto said confidently.
"E-EH?! W-Why would you want me to meet her?" Izuku was confused, he didn't think he had done anything for that.
"I think she'd want to meet you. Since you're the one who helped me."
It all made sense to Izuku. Plus, since he knew somewhat about her past, he was given the opportunity to help her, and Izuku wouldn't be cinnamon roll we knew him as if he gave up on a chance to help someone.
"S-Sure, if she'll have me, I'd be happy to meet y-your mother." Izuku said, bowing at a 90 degree angle, this made Todoroki chuckle slightly.
"You don't have to bow Midoriya. We should get going if we want to make it there on time."
"O-Ok." Izuku said, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.
They both walked out of the classroom and left the school. Awaiting them on the street was a black car, Izuku guessed that it was taking them to the psychiatric ward that his mother was staying in.
This made Izuku really think about how bad her life was. He was only told a little of it, but from what he'd heard, she'd been abused physically and mentally by her husband, Endeavor. This made Izuku dislike Endeavor even more.
He already didn't like him due to the fact that he wasn't a true hero. Only becoming a hero for popularity and was only focused on surpassing All Might, who was currently above him, he even went as far as to court a woman he didn't love, solely for the purpose of producing a child capable of surpassing him. That had made his opinion of the fiery hero plummet even more. He wouldn't say that he hated him, but if he had to say, he was way far past forgiveness.
As they arrived at the ward. Izuku couldn't help but notice that this was the psychiatric ward his mother worked at. She was currently a nurse there. Her shift was over though, and she was at home. Speaking of home, he had to text her that he'd be late.
After doing that, the two boys made their way into the ward and walked to the front desk.
"Hello, who are you here for today?" The receptionist asked, before she recognized the two boys.
"Oh! You're Inko's son, and I believe you are Rei's kid, am I correct?"
"Yes, we are here to see my mother." Todoroki said.
"Okay, you know what room she's in, go ahead." She said.
As they both walked into the elevator to go onto the second floor, Todoroki asked Izuku a question.
"Do you come here often?" Todoroki asked.
"H-Huh? Not really, why do you ask?"
"The receptionist seemed to know you."
"Oh, that's because my mother works here, I sometimes come visit her if she works late." Izuku replied, as the elevator opened and they walked out, Izuku following Todoroki.
Todoroki opened the door, and they both stepped inside. Izuku's eyes instantly noticed her white hair that went down to her shoulders. He then looked towards her face, which was looking out of the window, and he became confused.
"Todoroki-kun, why didn't you tell me we were visiting your sister, not your mother." Izuku said, visibly confused.
"Um, Midoriya, this is my mother." Todoroki said.
Izuku just looked back at her face, a small tint of red visible on her cheeks. This couldn't be his mother. She looked like she could be his sister. He then realized his mistake, and bowed again at a 90 degree angle towards her.
"O-OH! I'm sorry Todoroki-san! I hope I didn't offend you." Izuku said, his face red with embarrassment, she just chuckled in response.
"Don't worry, if anything, you did the opposite of offending me. Now Shoto, do you mind telling me who this is?" Todoroki's mother asked.
"Right. This is my friend, Izuku Midoriya, he's the one I fought during the sports festival, and the one who helped me use my left side." The word 'friend' still felt weird as he said it, but that would take some getting used to.
"Ahh, the sports festival. I watched that, and I'm proud of you." She said to Todoroki, who only smiled in response.
"As for you, Midoriya-san, I am grateful that you helped my son, and call me Rei, It would probably be confusing when you refer to one of us since we both have the same last names." Rei said.
"O-Ok Rei-san." Izuku replied.
Over the past couple of hours, the 3 of them talked about various things, the most interesting thing being the various embarrassing stories of Todoroki. Izuku had never before seen him embarrassed before, he wished his phone was charged or else he probably would've taken a photo of him. Eventually, the time for them to leave for the day came, and they both said their goodbyes before going home.
Izuku had a dream about animals with white fur that night.
