This goes along with my Surprise Date story, and corresponds to Episode 1 of Season 7. i have used a little dialogue from the episode and alluded to future episodes. hope you enjoy! 💜✨ For entertainment only!
Sam couldn't stop thinking about Cassie and how she surprised him with that special evening at Grey House. Him being a highly competitive guy was a little bummed she beat him to it. He was going to surprise her this time, well, hopefully. If she didn't already know somehow.
She had gotten up quite early this morning to get Grey House ready before she left for a morning class then to Bell Book after. He had been so preoccupied between the hospital and his practice that he didn't frequent Bell Book like he used to. He missed those days when he would stop in just to see her but somehow she always knew exactly what he needed. Her gift was special and he felt grateful she shared that part of herself with him.
How was he so lucky to have her in his life?
He never wanted to take her for granted. He couldn't imagine his life without her. She was not just his wife or soulmate, she was his best friend.
He smirked, as he thought about how truly enchanting Cassie was. His wife never ceased to amaze him. The image of how stunning she looked last night still took his breath away, just thinking about her. He placed the bottle of wine in the picnic basket, making sure he didn't miss anything. He was set on surprising her with that date at sea Vincent suggested.
Now, it was more along the lines of a thank you date, but a date nonetheless.
He smiled when Vincent came over and said "Boat's all yours for the day" he placed the keys on the counter. "great. Thanks" Sam said as he made sure everything was packed perfectly.
Vincent watched as Sam made sure everything was just right. Sam noticed and looked at him, and wonderingly asked, "What?"
Vincent smiled, "I'm glad Cassie has you."
Sam smiled, "thanks...I can't imagine my life without her."
Vincent nodded, "I'm sure she'd say the same about you. Cassie is the nicest person I've ever known. She deserves someone great who sees how special she is and makes her happy"
"And you think that's me?" He joked. Vincent nodded with a laugh, "No doubt. I knew how much you loved Cassie when we searched tirelessly for the forever tree."
Sam smiled knowing how special that place was. He realized that he just needed the right person to find it with him. Grace. It was almost like her blessing. The profound love and magic he felt with Cassie amazed him time and time again. His mind drifted to their breathtaking night together. His heart started racing just remembering how truly incredible it felt to be connected to Cassie body and soul.
He cleared his throat nervously as his thoughts took a more seductive route. He couldn't wait to see Cassie and kiss her.
He hurriedly finished the preparations for their boat date, chatting with Vincent until he was ready to meet Cassie. He had Vincent text Cassie to meet him at the dock to see his new boat hopefully to throw her off.
Nearly half an hour later he was walking along the dock and saw Cassie just a few meters ahead of him. He smiled, his heart actually lifting simply being near her. He heard her call 'Vincent?' As she approached the boat.
He tried to walk quietly but actually 'felt' the moment she sensed him. She turned and her smile at seeing him set his heart into space.
"Sam?" Her voice was so pleasing, and hearing his name from her was his favorite.
He smiled as he approached her "Cassie" he dropped the basket to the floor and pulled her to him for a kiss. He obviously took her by surprise when she stumbled back but held onto him to keep herself connected to him. When he pulled back she looked at him with a dazed smile. "Wow, what did I do to deserve that kiss?"
He smiled, pushing back a strand of hair from her face. "For being my amazing wife."
She smiled, "hmm… well, in that case, your amazing wife wants to thank her amazing husband with another kiss."
Cassie felt a flurry of butterflies at the way Sam's hand felt in her hair as he kissed her again. How was it that every time they kissed she felt that way? It completely made her melt and she wrapped her arms around him pulling him closer wanting to savor this moment with him.
She wondered why Vincent texted her out of the blue telling her she absolutely had to meet him to see his boat and he was not taking no for an answer. She should have known he was up to something.
When she reached the boat and didn't see Vincent but felt that familiar powerful connection her heart actually skipped when she turned to see Sam.
She pulled away, feeling breathless, her eyes quickly meeting his, "I love you"
He smiled and smoothed his hand over her hair and then trailed across the back of her shoulder. "I love you"
She smiled and glanced to the boat. "What are we doing here? So, I take it Vincent isn't here?"
He shook his head "no, but it was his idea so…"
She looked at him, "so?"
He picked up the basket and wrapped his arm around her as he turned her to face the boat. "Welcome aboard the Nightinsail for a romantic date at sea. Just the two of us."
She looked at him with a smirk, "Nightinsail, huh?"
He shrugged, "hey, it was Vincent who named her."
Cassie laughed. "I love it! Shall we?"
He held his arm out toward the boat. "After you"
She took his hand as she stepped into the boat, looking around and taking it all in, the breezy day a refreshing escape from being inside a lot lately; she made it over to the helm, placing her hand on the wheel, looking out at the water surrounding them. "Its beautiful"
Sam stood beside her "Just like you"
She smiled before she looked at him. "Are you trying to seduce me, Captain Radford?"
He laughed, "hah, that depends. Is it working?" He raised his eyebrow playfully.
"Hmm… I'm not sure. I think you can do better than that."
He laughed, and surprised her when he swiftly pulled out a single red rose from the basket and held it out to her. She smiled as she took it from him, their hands brushing, causing sparks within her.
Their eyes were connected, the love and passion already flickering between them. Cassie's heart was racing, the look in Sam's eyes nearly taking her breath away as she said, "this is a nice idea"
He turned her to face the front, placing his hand over hers on the wheel. "I'm glad you like it. I wanted to do something special for you."
She leaned into him as his arms came around her as he put the key and turned the boat on. Her skin tingled from his proximity. "Sam"
"Cassie"
"How is it possible to miss you so much?" Her voice was quiet.
"I can ask you the same question. Any time we're not together I can't stop thinking about you and can't wait until I'm close to you again."
She looked at him, and his smile made her own smile widen. "Then let's make the most of this time together."
He gave her a small kiss. Soon they were enjoying the sea breeze and gentle waves as they cruised along, enjoying the time together.
After a while, Cassie glanced up at him as she had her arm hooked through his and her head on his shoulder. She was so glad to be spending time with him. "A girl could get used to this."
Sam smiled, "Maybe we should sell Grey House and conquer the high seas."
Cassie laughed, "Easy there Jack Sparrow, I think the sea air is getting to you" she said resulting in his laugh. she trailed her hand across his arm, "Slide over Captain Radford"
He looked at her as he stepped to the side so she could take the wheel, lifting his hand to her back, running his hand in circles across shoulders and down to rest at her waist.
Cassie was really enjoying the sea breeze and how free she felt with Sam like this. "Not too shabby, huh?" She asked, getting the hang of steering the boat.
Sam looked at her, a twinkle of admiration in his eyes, "No, you're not"
She looked at him with a playful smile, "A little cheesy, but I'll allow it" she teased. He laughed, "Ok… you know you love it"
She looked at him, "I do… I love you"
He smiled and tugged her closer by her waist.
Cassie let out a sigh, "I have missed this."
Sam smiled, "It's nice making up for lost time"
Cassie had a feeling, "I think we just ran out of time" soon enough the boat slowed until it stopped. She looked at him and then laughed, "Looks like we have bad luck with boats"
He looked at her with a smirk, "Which is ironic cause here I thought you were my good luck charm"
She gave him a look, he knew all too well. Her mysterious Cassie look that always intrigued him to no end.
"So, what do we do?" She asked, placing her hand on his arm.
He smiled, "You mean you don't have some kind of magic to make it work?" he teased. She looked at him with her eyebrow raised, a slight smirk, "I'm afraid not"
He shook his head with a smile, "I think Vincent said there was a raft. Let me take a look" whenever he tried to surprise Cassie something always seemed to happen, but he wasn't going to let this ruin their time together. In fact, being stuck out here gave them an excuse to have perhaps a bit more time together.
Within a few minutes he found the raft, grabbed the basket with their lunch and they set on the raft. The good thing was they weren't too far from the shore.
Soon enough when they made it to shore, he got out and pulled the raft until it was onto the sand, grabbed the basket from her and placed it down, then reached his hand out for Cassie. She took it and as he pulled her up his arms came around her waist. She placed her hands onto his chest looking at him with a warm smile.
He sighed, "I hope we can still have a great time."
She smiled, "We will." She placed a light kiss on his lips. He draped his arm across her shoulder as he picked up the basket.
She took a look around, "This is amazing" she said in awe, seeing it was like they had a whole beautiful island to themselves.
"Great, then my plan worked" he took out a blanket and draped it on to the sand. "hmm… the engine having a vapor lock was your plan?"she said as she came over.
"No, you thinking this was my plan was my plan"
She laughed. "I can't imagine being stranded here with anyone else"
He smiled as he held his hand out for her to join him on the blanket, "Me neither."
He pulled out a thing of strawberries. She looked at him, "I guess being shipwrecked gives you an appetite"
"Well, we'll only be shipwrecked about an hour, might as well make the most of it"
She looked at him admiringly, "I make the most of every hour I spend with you"
He smirked, "A little bit cheesy but I'll allow it."
She grinned and nudged his shoulder with hers, then took a breath as she let in the moment. Sam noticed the thoughtful look on her face, "Strawberry for your thoughts?"
She smiled and picked one, "Did you ever think we'd be married one day and stuck on a beautiful island?"
He grinned, "Funny enough, I absolutely did"
She laughed "Me too, but I never thought we'd be married one day and missing each other at the same time" she took a bite of the strawberry. He watched her for a second, "With the kids gone, we should actually be sick of each other."
"How did life get so busy?" She asked, realizing just how busy they really were these days. He looked at her, "We shouldn't let it get in the way." he said thoughtfully.
She held out her pinky, "Promise me it won't again." He smiled and hooked his pinky with hers; he rubbed her back gently, the affection he felt for only seemed to grow with every moment he spent with her.
Cassie was enjoying the breeze, but was suddenly struck by the sound of this melodious tune that filled the shore with the sea breeze. "Do you hear that?"
"what? The wind?" He watched as she got up, following the sound. She couldn't focus on anything but the spellbinding tune that called out to her, even as Sam said "We could eat first, and then chase the island breeze later?... or not?" He said, realizing she wasn't listening.
He quickly got up and followed her as the tune grew louder and more distinct until it stopped altogether, the wind stopping with it. "Well, that was weird," Sam said.
They looked down to see a pattern made of rocks in the sand that resembled a tree of some sort.
"Wow, looks like a lot of work."
"Yah,work someone did a long time ago"
Sam looked at her in surprise, "How can you tell?"
She shrugged, "Just a feeling."
The quiet poignant moment was interrupted by the sound of the boat starting up again. Cassie smiled, finding the timing interesting. It was as if everything led up to her needing to see this place. "Guess we're not shipwrecked anymore"
Sam looked to the boat, finding it strange the boat started up again so soon. "That's too bad, I like this place."
Cassie had a wistful smile across her face as she said, "Definitely a place you find in a dream"
Sam looked at his wife wondering what her words meant. He held his hand out for her, knowing she would tell him whenever she felt. She smiled and placed her hand in his. As they walked to their make-shit picnic, Cassie hooked her arm through his, and said, "I'm not sure I'm ready to leave this place just yet"
He smiled, "I guess we could spare a bit more time."
She smiled as she looked at him, and it made his heart melt. He loved when Cassie looked at him with that warm loving look. "I love you" the words seemed to tumble out, the longer he looked at her.
She tugged on his arm, and whispered in his ear "I love you more"
He lifted his hand through her hair, pulling her closer to give her a kiss. When he was about to pull away, Cassie's hand lifted to his face extending the kiss a moment longer, the warmth he felt surge through him was a welcome feeling in contrast to the cooler sea breeze.
He smiled as he pulled away, "Come on, let's eat a bit before we head back"
"Ok" she was surprised when he brought out a bottle of wine. She laughed when he popped the cork, "Well, this is a surprise"
He grinned as he poured her some in a small glass. He held it out to her and she took it, her eyes never leaving his. Their eyes held for a few electrifying seconds until he averted his gaze back to pouring some for himself.
She watched him, enjoying his fluid movements. He held his glass up and she clinked hers against his. "What are we toasting to?"
He smiled, "To... us, to adventure, to enjoying every minute with you"
She smiled, "I like the sound of that"
For the next 15 minutes they enjoyed their beach picnic and time together, the stillness of their surprise island getaway, the sea breeze, the sound of the waves, and just being together. Cassie looked out taking in the moment, and Sam noticed. She raised her eyebrow before looking at him.
"You suddenly got quiet," he noted.
She took a deep breath, and then said "I needed this."
He smirked, "What? Getting shipwrecked?"
She looked at him with a grin, "No, this moment"
"It didn't exactly go as I planned."
She shook her head, "It was perfect."
He smiled. She placed her hand on top of his on the blanket next to her.
"Thank you, Sam"
He smiled, "You're amazing, you know?"
She grinned, "Yah, I know"
He laughed, "I mean it. I love that about you"
She looked intrigued, her smile curious, "What, exactly?"
Sam smiled, "Your ability to always see the good in a situation."
She leaned close and said in a quiet mysterious voice, "I have a secret"
He leaned close, "Oh?" He watched as her eyes glided over him, the shine in them taking his breath away, especially when she said, "Every minute I spend with you is good."
His eyes drifted to her lips for a second, "That's good, huh?"
She grinned, "It's better" she closed the distance between them with a kiss. Sam felt the sparks as soon as their lips met, his heart lifting, the way she always made him feel was exhilarating, and he was enthralled with how connected they were.
He would never admit it, well, not without a fight, but she made him believe in fate and destiny and soulmates and things he never believed in before. Actually those very things he used to laugh at; after all, he was a man of science, facts, and practicality, but the feeling he always got being with Cassie was so profound, and unexplainable.
Her hand still rested on top of his, so he took his free hand and lifted it to rest at her neck, her skin was hot despite the chilled air around them. He laughed when she used her free hand to grab at the material of his sweater to pull him closer. She placed one more smaller kiss, smiling as she looked in his eyes.
He smiled as he admired the starry look in her eyes, "Maybe we should head up before I'm tempted to stay here forever with you."
"Well, I wouldn't object to that" she said, her voice taking a seductive tone, mirroring the flirty look in her eyes.
After much effort on both their parts they packed up everything and were back to the boat. Sam held his hand out for Cassie, but as she took it she somehow skipped the step and fell into him.
"woah? Are you ok?" He asked as he steadied her.
Cassie had the strangest feeling come over her, but she shrugged it off. "I'm fine" she stood up straight but Sam made her sit down. "Take a minute"
She smiled, "Ok" she took a calming breath in, wondering what that was, but trying not to dwell on it too long. She just tripped, she tried to convince herself as she watched Sam getting everything in place to start up again. She noticed him glance at her several times; she smiled pretending not to notice, hoping he would see that she was fine.
Sam, though he tried to hide it, was worried about Cassie. In all the time he'd known her she had never tripped or stumbled; ok, maybe when she tried to get on the horse that one time but that was different.
Cassie was possibly the most graceful person he'd ever known. She always had an elegance and confidence in her demeanor so seeing her 'trip' was a bit shocking. He couldn't help but glance at her wanting to make sure she was really ok.
Once he finished he came over and she looked at him, "Sam, I'm fine, really. I just misstepped."
He smiled, and took a seat next to her, "Alright, but I want you standing right beside me so I can have my arm around you"
She smiled, "how can I possibly object to that?"
He smiled, but surprised her when he leaned over and placed a deep playful kiss on her neck. She laughed, "Sam"
He grinned, then pinned her against the seat as he gave her a kiss. She laughed again, pushing him back, "Sam, what are you doing?"
He loved hearing her laugh. It was like an air-balloon soaring in his heart. "Can't a man make out with his wife on a date?"
She laughed, despite her face coloring, "Hmm… doesn't that usually happen towards the end of a date?"
He shrugged, "Usually, but we might not get that chance when we get back…"
She looked at him thoughtfully, "I see, well, in that case, how can your wife refuse her husband?" She grabbed at his vest and pulled him over her and their lips met in an electric kiss. His hands went to her face; he loved kissing Cassie. She was intoxicating and it never seemed to be enough. The crackling fire he felt surge through him nearly made him melt, he actually felt like he was 'falling' in love.
He left her lips a second, laughing at his own thoughts.
She looked at him, her eyes shining, the bright smile she had as she asked, "What?"
He pulled her so they were sitting up again, but she kept a grip on his vest, as he said, "I can't believe how cheesy I've become"
"oh?" She raised her eyebrow inquisitively.
He smirked, "I actually had the thought that you make me feel like I'm literally falling in love everytime I kiss you"
She grinned, her eyes sparkling, "don't worry, your secret's safe with me." She said, her voice sounding breathless and mesmerizing.
He laughed, "Good, because I'm sure if Nick or Grace, or anyone really would roll their eyes at how love-sick I sound."
She laughed, "Maybe so, but your wife loves it"
He smiled, his eyes shining with his love for her. "Then, that's good."
She nodded, "Mhm"
Cassie's heart was pounding so hard she thought it might come out of her chest. Their eyes were held together by a magnetic force, and she felt that familiar overwhelming love and passion wash over her.
She closed her eyes for a moment, but Sam took the opportunity to kiss her again. This time she let go of his vest and wrapped her arms around him pulling him closer. His hands lifted into her hair again and she felt like the warm rays of the sun danced across her skin, everywhere. It was exhilarating and mind-melting.
His right slid down pulling at her scarf sliding it off, the sensation of his fingers gently brushing her skin made her melt into him more. And then he left her lips to place kisses down her neck. She blushed, the feeling of his lips on her neck was incredible.
"Sam…" she was breathless, and was completely swept into the moment, until she felt a strong chill. She pulled away, and looked at him.
He looked at her in confusion and then concern. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head, "Nothing" trying to shake off the unsettling feeling. But Sam knew her too well, "Cassie? Did you… feel something again?"
She wanted to say no, but her silence was enough for him to understand. "I wish there was something I could do."
"Thank you, Sam. There isn't really anything to do. It's just…"
Sam smiled, "...a feeling, but your feelings are rarely wrong. Maybe we should head back now?" He stood up, worried between this feeling and her trip earlier, and the feeling she had the other night.
She looked so disappointed as she said, "I'm sorry"
He held both of his hands for her and she took them. He placed a kiss on each hand. "I love you."
"I love you, Sam" the look in her eyes made his heart lift again.
He kept her hand in his as they moved to the front of the boat. "Remember you have to stay next to me," he teased.
She squeezed his hand and leaned into him, "There isn't anywhere else I'd rather be."
"I'm glad"
Nearly half an hour later they were back. As he helped her out of the boat, he smirked, noticing she was watching her step carefully this time so he took the opportunity to yank her purposely into him.
"Sam" she laughed, and their eyes met, the dreamy look in hers nearly took his breath away. He was about to kiss her when he heard, "Well, well, well…"
He looked to see Vincent approaching, a smile on his face, "Looks like you two had a great time"
Sam let go of Cassie, but was happy when she laced her hand with his, and said, "We did. Thanks for letting us borrow the Nightinsail" she said playfully.
Vincent laughed, "She's a beauty, huh?"
Cassie smiled, "She's a little feisty, but yes, quite enchanting"
Vincent laughed, while Sam said "Sounds familiar"
Cassie simply had that smile of hers that was knowing, and beautiful and mysterious all in the same instant.
"I guess I should get back to Grey House, and help Abigail and Joy. Thank you Vincent" she hugged him and then looked at Sam, "Thank you Sam. I had a perfect time", her eyes had a slight flirty glint.
Vincent took the hint and went over to inspect his boat, while Sam pulled at Cassie's hand gently, his eyes never leaving hers. He was only going to give her a small sweet kiss, but she wrapped her arm around his waist to pull him closer and deepen the kiss.
When their lips separated, her eyes had that dreamy look again and he hated that she had to go. "See you later?" She said softly.
He smiled, and said "How could I possibly not come home to my gorgeous wife?"
She nodded, "Yah, don't let that happen. Your wife will miss her handsome husband too much"
He smiled and squeezed her hand before she let go. Sam watched her walk away, then finally looked at Vincent who had been watching him with a knowing smile. He rolled his eyes, "What go ahead, say it"
Vincent smiled, "Say what?"
Sam smiled, "That I'm… whipped"
Vincent laughed, "You word not mine. I was just thinking... really in love. I'm happy for you two."
Sam smiled, "Thanks. Let me treat you to a drink before I head off to my office"
"sure, sounds like a plan"
Nearly 20 minutes later Cassie walked into Grey House, a smile still present; she had really needed that time at sea. She felt recharged. As she closed the door and walked further in she felt that off chill again, but as quickly as it came, a more jovial one took its place as Joy greeted her. "Hey, so, how was your date?"
Cassie smiled, "How did you know?"
Abigail walked over to join them, "Duh, she's a Merriwick"
Cassie laughed. Abigail raised her eyebrow, and urged, "So?"
Cassie let out a sigh, "It was very nice" she said holding up the rose Sam gave her.
Joy and Abigail shared a smile. Abigail started to walk away when she said, "you might want to text Sam to get your scarf"
Cassie blushed, realizing she had forgotten it. Joy smiled, which made her smile shaking her head, looking after her more 'playful' cousin. "Shall we?" Cassie said. Joy nodded, "Yes, we have an engagement party to finish putting together"
As Cassie followed Joy she slipped out her phone and smiled when she saw a text from Sam. I love you. I enjoyed every minute with you.
She felt her heart soar, she quickly texted him back. Ditto. I love you, too. Btw, I forgot my scarf.
She waited a moment and bit her lip when she read his response. I know. It's in my pocket… her heart skipped, a flicker of passionate excitement filled her.
Cassie blushed, and quickly texted Sam back, ``Then my handsome husband better come home to his gorgeous wife"
Cassie saw Abigail who was standing at the end of the hall near the kitchen, her hand on her hip, who was quite loud and rather annoying at the moment, say, "Didn't you and Sam get enough of each other?"
Cassie saw the incoming message and smiled, I'm counting down the minutes. Love you. Once she read it and texted him she loved him again, she put her phone back into her pocket.
Abigail was watching her with a playful smile.
Cassie walked over and said "Nope" as she passed by. Abigail turned after Cassie, her teasing smile turning to a knowing smirk.
