a/n: There's this discussion on twitter right now about who'd be the best father figure for Noah and it's freaking me out. This is my take on it. Written for the 500 word SVU Challenge. Prompt: Paternity.
"What 's wrong?" Amanda asked as soon as they sat down at the restaurant.
Olivia asking her out to have lunch in the middle of the week could only meant problems.
"I think I've made a huge mistake," she explained.
"You?"
"Rollins..."
"I didn't know you could make a mistake," she joked.
"I'm trying to open up here, give me a break?" Olivia pleaded.
"Sorry, it was just too easy," Amanda laughed. She couldn't help feeling a little relieved that she had nothing to do with the problem at hand. These little meetings were usually to address something she had done wrong, "tell me where saint Olivia went wrong."
"I've made many mistakes."
"Ok, now you're scaring me."
"Noah…"
"What's wrong with Noah?" she worried.
"I - I've done it again. I mean, I'm doing it, I guess. You'd think I'd learn from my mistakes."
"What are you talking about?"
"Elliot has been spending time in the apartment," Olivia confessed like she had done one of the ten commandment sins.
"Ok?"
"Him and Eli. They come over for dinner sometimes."
Amanda had no clue where this was going, "Alright."
"And Noah.. I feel like he is…"
"Liv, I'm not a mind reader."
"You had Carisi over all the time, right? Before you guys were a thing."
"I sure did."
"I - I"
"Olivia, come on!"
"He got attached to Barba and then Barba left. He got attached to Stone and then he left too. How do I know Elliot is not gonna leave?"
Oh, so that was it. "You don't."
"How did you know Carisi wouldn't leave?"
"I don't know, Liv. He might."
"No, he won't."
"Olivia, look at the fathers of my daughters. Do you really think it's wise to get advice from me?"
"You look like you're doing a good job now."
"Olivia, you...let me tell you something. If there's one thing I know about fathers is that you don't need them."
"Rollins," Olivia began but Amanda didn't let her finish her thought.
"They've got me. My babies have me, they have you. They have their crazy grandmother - whatever. They're good. I'm not going crazy because there's no father around. A man . Why do they need that?"
"They have Sonny now," Olivia pointed out.
"But they don't need him. It's a nice plus, though."
"I worry that -"
"Noah has you. Noah has me. Fin and Sonny and Kat. Make sure he knows that. He's going to be fine."
When Olivia still looked at her with uncertainty Amanda continued.
"You're not making a mistake, Liv. Noah knows that no matter what you're going to be there for him. That 's enough. That's more than enough," she assured her Captain.
"You think so?"
"I'm sure of it," she smiled.
Olivia smiled back. Maybe it would take a while but Amanda was sure Olivia would get it. It took her a moment to get it too.
Deciding to break the heaviness of the conversation, Amanda continued.
"Besides, you are his mother but who told you you can't also be daddy ?" she mocked.
"Shut the fuck up, Amanda"
a/n: Noah doesn't need no man. The fuck. He's got Daddy Benson. Outra solução para esse dilema seria a Olivia esquecer esse garoto num churrasco. Mas aí já é querer demais.
