Brin
Brin Quorally=Daughter of Asclepius. Tiffany De La Cruz's best friend. Bubbly, strong-willed, A+ average, respected by all students, stubborn, rule follower, etc.
Brin Quorally=Age:15 Grade:10th Looks: Long blond hair, icy blue eyes, slim, etc.
….
Mondays were the absolute worst. Even the ever-cheerful Brin Quorally thought so. Walking up the steps to Coeus High School for Demigods (or CHSD), she dwelt on this demoralizing fact with a glum expression.
"Why the long face?"
She was accosted by her best friend, Tiffany De La Cruz.
"Hey Tiff," She replied. "You know how Mondays are."
"Humor me; how are they?" Tiffany's eyes danced.
"Why are you so happy…?" Brin asked, suspiciously.
"Oh, trying to put me in the 'Nemesis' kids are always grumpy' box, are we?" She said with joking indignation. "Ok fine, I'll tell you. I got the dorm room!" Brin's face transformed into her usual cheerful expression.
"No way!" She stopped outside her locker. "You mean you get the one down the hall from me?"
"That's the one," Tiffany looked happier than she had in a while. "Next project: get Principal Endeis to let us room with who
we want instead of being shoved into a dorm with siblings on the godly side."
"Good idea, though, nearly impossible to acomplish." Brin shuffled through her locker. "Ok Tiff, you need to go find your locker, and we both need to make it to assembly before the trumpet sounds."
"Your right, as usual," Tiffany heaved a sigh. "I just wish that for once, you could be wrong." Brin laughed, and the girls went their separate ways.
Finally, it was noon! Brin scanned the cafeteria and spotted a waving hand. Maneuvering her way through the throngs of kids, she finally reached her goal.
"I don't know who's idea it was to make all the kids have lunch at the same time, but they ought to be drug out into the street and shot." Brin blew her blond bangs out of her eyes, as she slid into her seat.
"Preach sista," Tiffany said, rolling her eyes.
"Ok y'all, are we going to eat at the willow tree or not?" Sasha Rinker, daughter of Athena, demanded.
"Yes, yes," Tiffany grabbed her tray, and the rest of their group followed. As they headed outside, Brin did a headcount and discovered they were missing a couple people.
"Where are the twins?"
"Oh," Tiff barely glanced up. "They're in detention, per usual." Brin sighed. The two sons of Ares were always getting in trouble.
"But they need to be part of the meditation. They still haven't harnessed the energy, and they're getting more and more impatient with each day."
"I know," Tiff replied. "but you know how those two are. It's weird if they're not in trouble."
They arrived at their meditation spot, and all sat in a circle. There were about 11 in the group, and they came from almost every grade in the building. Brin knew that having such a small group would lessen their chances at their goal, but she also believed their project was imperative to the future demigods in C.H.S.D.
"Alright everybody," Brin clapped her hands. "We only have 30 minutes, so lets get to work!" Everyone clasped hands and closed their eyes. Brin cleared her mind of all distractions, anxieties, and worries. She imagined yellow energy flowing into her hands and through her body. A hum filled the air, heard only by those who had managed to harness the energy, and she felt as though she was in a liquid state. Flexible. Part of the energy itself. Once she had filled every inch of her body with the yellow energy, Brin released it all back into the universe with a sigh. She loved the feelings the energy gave her, and only regretted not having time throughout the day to fill herself with it.
She opened her eyes, and immediately felt focused and alert. The 5 or so people who had been able to use the energy, looked happy and wide awake.
"Who figured it out this time?" Brin asked, looking around. She thought she could guess, but she wanted each of them to share their experience with the others so that maybe one or two more would get it tomorrow. One of the newer girls, a quite 8th grader named Sophia, raised her hand.
"I did it," She looked like someone had handed her the moon, and she had swallowed it so that it lit up her face from the inside out.
"I harnessed the orange energy, and it did just what you said it would, Brin!"
"Which is…?" She asked the shy girl.
"It gave me courage and focus!"
"Do you mind telling us why you wanted that particular color?"
"Ok…" Sophia said slowly. "My next class is Greek, and there's this kid who bullys me. I thought maybe the orange energy would give me the courage to stand up to him."
At this, all the kids' faces had varying degrees of outrage to sympathy to pity.
"That's the best reason I've heard yet!" Brin said enthusiastically. "And I wish you the best of luck with the bully." Everyone nodded their encouragement to the girl and she smiled tentatively. Brin asked Sophia a few more questions, and then they all had to rush to get to their next class.
One more minute….30 seconds….there! Brin joined the sea of kids running out of PE, and aimed for her locker. She filled her book bag with her favorite school books, and headed for the best class of the day: A.M.M.S.-Advanced Magical Medical Studies. As a daughter of Asclepius, the was her special class, along with all of
her other extended siblings. The class had every single child of the god of medicine; from the 8th grade to 12th grade.
She entered the classroom with her extended sibling, Everette.
"I think today we're learning about which incantations to use to heal bone breaks," Everette said.
"Oh no, really?" Brin was dismayed. "I thought we were doing muscle spasms today," She smacked her forehead. "I studied for the wrong thing. Oh well," Everette shook his head, laughing.
"Brin, come on. When was the last time you failed a test. For that matter, when was the last time you failed at anything?"
"Well, at the beginning of the school year, I had to be able to do the splits to get into the gymnastics team, and I failed miserably."
"You hopeless," Everette shook head head, still laughing.
They found their seats and the teacher, Mr. Curry, called out, "Ok everyone, please open your textbook to page 37."
3o minutes later, the enchanted horn blew, signaling the end of the school day. Even though it was the middle of February, (the 19th to be exact) Brin still felt tired by the time 3:00pm rolled around.
"How was RIE?" Brin asked Tiffany as they headed out of the school.
"Boring as usual," Tiff replied with a shrug. RIE was the Nemesis' kids class: Revenge Isn't Everything.
"What ding-dong named all of our 'special classes'?"
"I don't know," Brin laughed. "But they do sound kinda stupid. Then again, the names also make sense. Like, in RIE, you learn how to use the other powers that being a child of Nemesis gives you. Before Percy and Annabeth Jackson founded this place, all the Nemesis kids could do was take revenge or become paid mercenaries."
"Yes, yes. I know all that already." Tiffany sounded a little annoyed. "We all have to learn it at orientation, duh!"
"Ok, geez. What did I do?"
"Well… lets just say I have some reliable sources that tell me your keeping secrets from me." Brin put on her innocent face.
"What? Me?"
"Don't you pull that with me, girl, I know you inside and out. You're hiding something."
Brin hadn't wanted to tell anyone, but Tiffany always knew how drag out her secrets.
"Fine," She sighed. "I might have a small crush on someone."
Tiffany clapped. "Ah ha! I knew it! Who, who?!"
"Preston Sanders."
"Wow, he is so your type. #predictable, grrrrl." Tiffany laughed, and they headed to their dorms.
