Chapter 1 Introductions
20XX
It was only in the sport of Infantry a few years ago. I first joined back in 2012. It was interesting to say the least. With the infighting between our commanders, and the struggle to survive in different environments. From the tropical regions of Japan to the cold winter tundra in Eastern Siberia. We fought alongside the tanks and their crews. For our sport, Infantry, sided with the girls sport, Tankery. But I'm not here to tell you about my experience in the Infantry. You're here to find out more about him. Boris Kalinka. Our vice commander, at least till we fought Pravda but, we'll get there. Here's his story in our school, Oarai.
March 3, 2012
"Everyone gather in the Auditorium. There we will discuss the mandatory electives."
"Guess we better head to the Auditorium." I said.
"Yeah let's go." Said my friend. His name is Zack. We had been friends for as long as I can remember. During our childhood we were damn near inseparable. That changed a year ago though when we joined our High Schools. Zack and I didn't discuss where we'd be going. We just applied when the opportunity arose. I applied for the high school closest to my home in Ooarai. Zack , However, Applied to go to Saint Gloriana. We only realized this when we got to the school ships. He transferred back to Oarai this year so we could get back together and graduate. So it all worked out in the end.
We entered the crowded Auditorium and managed to find a place to sit down.
"Welcome Everyone! We will be discussing the options on the Mandatory Elective sheet." Announced the Student Council President.
They talked about many of the electives such as flower arranging, sports, and art.
"This year we have also revived our Tankery and Infantry teams!" Anzu announced.
There was quite a cheer when she said that. They started talking about Tankery first. I wasn't interested in tanks. I was however very attentive when they started talking about Infantry and how to join. Just like the Tankery showcase they showed videos of the sport and its history. It showed all of the famed soldiers throughout the years. Jacob Mclellen 1978, Arthur Smith 1994, and the most recent and a favorite for most, Boris Kalinka 2011. When they told us that a veteran was coming in to talk to us about the sport and how it worked, I thought Boris would be the one to talk to us. It wasn't though. The one that showed up was none other than Quebec Nishizumi. When he showed up all the girls were dismissed and went back to class.
"Hello Everyone. I am Quebec and I have transferred here to Oarai with my sister. I have been instructed by Anzu to talk to you about the sport of Infantry and how it works. Now I'm sure you all know how it works, so this will be a summary of how to play it."
He spoke in a very German accent. He was also dressed in an SS like uniform. So, just from that I could tell he was a high commanding officer at Kuromorimine. He also had many awards on him. He had an Infantry assault badge, A full ribbon bar, and an Iron Cross First and Second Class. He also had a ribbon that you don't see too often because of its difficulty to achieve. The Eastern Front Ribbon. It means this man fought Pravda and didn't get eliminated throughout the match. I find that amazing. The soldiers of Pravda can be vicious and brutal.
Anyway he began explaining Infantry and how it works. While he was telling us how flag soldiers work he came to a stop and was looking at one of the entrances to the Auditorium. We looked at the door and there was a figure leaning up against the door frame. He was in the Oarai MP (Military Police) uniform (An East German Police Uniform, But it's white with Green Piping). He was just standing there chuckling.
"Who are you?" I asked myself.
The mysterious figure then left.
"Ok then… as I was saying." Quebec said kinda hesitantly.
After he finished explaining we were dismissed to go back to class. But, before we left Quebec told us "It will be on the Elective Sheet. If you want to join, just check the box, and show up at the tank sheds on the East side of the ship tomorrow at 0700."
"This'll be great! Think about all the benefits of joining! I'm signing up right away! What about you?" I excitedly asked Zack.
"Hell Yeah I'm signing up!" He told me "I do however have some more questions about it. Quebec will be at the Tank sheds tomorrow so, I'll just ask them there."
"Yeah I wonder who else will be there." I asked Zack
"Well Freshman for sure, probably the History club, Sports teams, and other random people. What do you think?"
"I was thinking the same thing."
` "If you have already served in Infantry and still have a uniform, Please show up in tha so we can find the proper position to put you in. Thank You!" Quebec said over the Intercom.
(The Next Day)
Me and Zack showed up to the tank sheds about 30 minutes before we needed to. Surprisingly there were already people there. Mostly people who have already served in the infantry in some way shape or form. There were also people from other schools there too. Saunders, Saint Gloriana, Kuromorimine, BC Freedom, and Chi HaTan.
"Welcome, Welcome! If you guys would gather by the shed or get in formation that would be great. We'll be handing out gear and uniforms soon." Quebec told us.
Over the course of the hour more people would show up. The soldiers would end up helping us get into something that resembles a decent formation. They were about to start handing gear when McDowell announced "Hey there's one more on the way!"
We turned around and we saw the freshmen turned around shaking in excitement and some were trying to salute the best they could. We finally looked to see what they were looking at. It was him. Really him! Boris. Boris Kalinka! He was dressed in an M36 German Greatcoat with an open collar. He only had a few awards pinned to it. He had an Infantry assault badge, An Iron Cross First and Second Class, an Eastern Front Ribbon. But there was one award he had that Quebec didn't, A Knight's Cross. It was polished and hung around his neck. Proudly on display.
"At ease." Boris told the Freshman. He spoke in a heavy Russian accent.
"Aye Sir!" the Freshmen replied as they tried to go into some form of parade rest.
"Well look at who they let play commander." Boris said to Quebec.
"Shut it and get in formation!" Quebec said sternly.
"Yes sir!" Boris said sarcastically. He walked over and stood at attention behind Quebec. "I'll be here thanks."
"Whatever. Just stay out of my way." Quebec said as he turned to us. "Come forward in a line. We are handing out your gear and uniforms now."
After all of us got our stuff there was one thing missing, Guns.
"Where are the guns?" Goering asked. (He is the other German general in the history club)
Quebec looked at McDowell. "I thought you said you got everything?"
"Sorry sir. I don't know how I missed that. There might be some in the tank sheds." McDowell said as he approached the shed door.
"It's locked." Anzu told us. "We sent Momo to go find the key."
The shed doors were blocked by a padlock. Nothing special, but it was just enough to get in the way. While we were trying to figure out what to do, Boris approached the lock and looked at it. He then pulled out a pistol and shot the lock. We all ducked because none of us expected it. Quebec whipped around and yelled at Boris "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!"
"Being useful. Now you are useful and help open this damn door."
Quebec reluctantly went over and helped Boris open the big shed door. After they opened the door we went into the Hanger sized building. We looked around and we couldn't find any firearms. The tankery team found a Panzer IV. But, just before we were going to do what the Tankery team was going to do (Split up into groups and search the ship) We heard Boris.
"Plug Your Ears!" He yelled. We only got about a second before the rattling of an SMG started. Once the firing stopped we saw what he found. Boris had found an M1928 Thompson SubMachine Gun, with a front foregrip and drum mags.
"Found mine! Now let's find everyone else's." Boris announced.
"Who says you get to keep it?" Quebec asked Boris
"You want to look down this end?" Boris asked as he pointed it at Quebec.
"No but"
"Then shut the fuck up"
"Alright, Alright .Everyone form up into your squads and see if you can find some weapon caches on this damn ship." Quebec ordered trying to forget what Boris just did.
Zack and I went in the group with Boris in hopes to ask him some stuff along the way. Just before we were able to, a plane flew overhead. The plane was from Saunders and it was dropping weapons over near our location. We all ran towards the cache of weapons to see what we could find. When we opened it we were amazed. Kar98's, MP40's, MG34's, Pistols, Panzerfausts, and all other types of weapons. There was also a small crate with this written on it Boris this is payment for the 60th Annual Infantry Tournament. Thanks for saving my ass. -Turner.
"Hey Boris there's a crate over here with your name on it!" I said.
"Oh didn't expect that. Thanks uh what's your name?"
"Cody sir!"
"Thanks Cody! Bought time that bastard pays me back. Let's get these weapons back to the sheds."
"Aye Sir!" we all replied.
3 Hours Later
"Hey we're back. Any luck?" Quebec said as he and his squad approached us. They were carrying old rifles they found in the bowels of the ship. They looked like they haven't been touched since they were last put down.
"Yes! In fact we found new ones." Boris said to Quebec as he held up one of the new Kar98k's.
"How did you… Nevermind, let's get all of these guns cleaned. Based on the look of the ones we found, this might take a while." Quebec ordered.
"Yes Sir!"
The next few hours were filled with laughs, fun, and most importantly us trying to figure out how to disassemble and properly clean our rifles. We were told by Goering that we will have a practice round against each other tomorrow, so will the tank crews. We will also have an instructor coming to the school. One from the Federation. I don't know who though. All I know is that tomorrow is either going to be fun or hell. Only time will tell.
