A short story I had in mind. Hope you'll like it. Also, I know I didn't write it in the story, but I imagine them in the run for a couple of years when that story take place.
I don't own Angels of Death.
Ray woke up with a loud gasp, thunder cracking quite loud outside. She could hear the rain falling quite hard outside. It was heavily humid today, so she wasn't that surprise to hear a storm. She took a breath and opened her eyes. It was still quite dark in the room, to a point she had difficulty to see clearly.
"Zack?" She called softly as she felt the place next to her. It was cold, so clearly Zack didn't sleep there recently. She sat on the bed and gasped as another thunder cracked outside.
She left the bed, trying to shake off the bad memories flashing back in her mind. All that thunders reminded her of all the fight her parents got. She walked blindly to the door of the bedroom and opened carefully.
"Zack? Are you there?" She called as she entered in the small abandoned apartment they stayed in for a while. The utility were still on, so they didn't complain. She got no answer back and she didn't see any clue of him around. The apartment was dark and she could faintly see the bathroom door open.
She froze in fear as the apartment suddenly got lit before another thunder cracked loud. The images of Danny, shooting her in the back, were flooding in her mind. She gasped as she ghostly felt the pain on her scar.
She felt on her knees, panicking. Her breathing was going so fast, she was literally gasping for air.
'I... I can't breathe! I can't breathe! No! I... I don't want to die! Not like that!' She yelled in her mind as her vision was getting blurry. She was slowly loosing conscious, not able to hear anymore what was going around her. She just wasn't able to calm down. She then felt something tight around her from behind. She couldn't hear clearly the sound around her, but she definitely heard something. She felt on her naked arms some clothes, bandages.
'Zack.' She slowly calmed down. Her vision was slowly getting focus and she was able to hear clearly.
"Shut, shut, shut. It's okay. It's okay. Just breathe, slowly." He whispered in her ear, slowly rocking her, trying his best to calm her down. Knowing she was calmer, he slowly broke the hug and made her turn around so he could have a better look at her. She looked at his face. He was clearly worried. "Yer breathin's still way too fast. Slow down. Here, follow mine."
He took her hand and put it on his stomach. In and out, in and out. She tried to follow his path of breathing and she started to shake. Her face broke before she threw herself against him, crying hard.
"Whoa Ray! W-"
"Where were you!?" She yelled before she continued to cry against his chest, gripping hard his sweater. He was quite confused and surprise.
"H-huh? Jesus Christ Ray. What's wrong with ya? I was outside. I took a walk n' took some snacks." He explained and she slowly calmed her cries, her ear against his chest. It was beating quite strong, betraying him to just how worry he was to her. She jolted quite hard as thunders continued to rumble. "Huh? Are... ya scared of the storm?"
He knew better than to laugh at her. After all, he wasn't blind; she looked even more afraid and panicked than he was around fire. He sighed and brought her closer, hugging her, slowly passing his hand between her blond locks.
"It's okay Ray. The storm can't hurt us here." He told her, trying to calm her down.
"It's... not that. Not the storm itself. It's the sound. It brings back bad memories. My parents, fighting and hurting me. Doctor Danny, shooting me in the back... and you." She listed and he listened to her carefully. She took a shaky breathe. "That sound... when you fell on the ground... after opening your stomach."
"Oh. But, I'm here n' kickin'. All those bad memories are what they are... bad memories. None can hurt ya, just messin' with ya mind." He told her and she softly sniffed. She smiled softly. Even if it was a little awkward, he was right about some things. He slowly broke the hug and put his hands on her cheeks. He used his thumbs to wipe away her tears. "Better?"
"Y-yeah. I gue-" She jumped quite hard as another thunder crashed closer and he groaned.
"Okay, I got it." He stood up and he put his arms on her back and under her legs. "Alley-oop!"
"Whoa!" She let out as he put her on his shoulder, like she was just a bag. "Zack! Where are you taking me!?"
"Ya'll see." He answered as he walked to the bedroom. He closed the door and blindly went to the bed. He dropped her on it, making her bounce a little.
"What? You want me to just fall asleep with a huge storm out-" Her speech was cut as he threw a blanket on her. She managed to free herself, but not without difficulty. "Argh! What's the-"
"Wait for it!" He let out, jumping on the bed, taking her in his arms. She let out a shriek before she giggled. He giggled with her and, after a while, he made them both sat on the bed, her on his laps. He put the blanket around them, putting it on his head, making a kind of tent. "Here. A nest of protection."
She puffed her laugh. She thought it was probably something he saw on the TV when he was bored out of his mind. "Wow. I never expect you to do that."
"Well, don't expect it t' happen sooner again. This' one time only." He warned her and she nodded, still barely holding her laugh. "Hey, now that I'm lookin' at it, I look like a ghost. Boo! Oooooouuuuhhh! I'm gonna scare ya!"
She finally laughed as he moved his arms around, the blanket around them. "No. You're not a ghost, Zack. If I really have to choose a monster for you, I'll go with a werewolf." She told him with a smile and he raised an eyebrow.
"What? A mutt? Yer kiddin' me?" He asked and she giggled. She leaned back against him.
"Come on Zack. It's perfect for you. They are big and strong, quite scary, lust for blood." She listed and he thought about it. He then started to smirk.
"Ya know what, I'm diggin' it. Yer right." He said and she giggled.
"Also, you're like a big puppy." She said and he groaned.
"Raaaayyy!" He whined as he let himself fell on his back on the bed. "I'm not a freakin' mutt!"
"I said a puppy, Zack." She reminded him with a soft smile and he playfully glared her. He grabbed her and made her fall on him. "Ow! Damn, I didn't hurt you?"
"Nah, I'm fine. So, if I'm a fuckin' weird mutt, what are ya?" He asked and she chuckled.
"Well, I'm the ghost." She told him and he puffed a laugh.
"Ya? A ghost? Yer not that scary." He told her and she pouted.
"I can be scary." She answered and he chuckled.
"Yeah, when ya decided t' go as a fuckin' psycho bitch." He told her and she stick her tongue out at him. He grabbed her nose. "Ya brat."
"Zack, let do of by none." She managed to say and he chuckled. He let her nose go and she sighed. She looked at him and he smiled, passing a hand on her hair.
"So, still scared?" He asked and she jumped. She could still hear the rain faintly falling, but she wasn't scary as much of the thunders.
"Huh. Will you look at that. No, I'm not." She answered and he brought closer her head to his chest.
"Then, sleep. It's gettin' quite late." He told her as he closed his eyes. She listened to his heart, feeling quite relaxed.
"Hey Zack?" She asked and he hummed, signalling her he was listening. "Do you mind if I stay against you?"
"Nah, ya can stay." He answered and she softly smiled. She closed her eyes and they slowly fell asleep.
Their choice of monsters is based on The Haunted House version, where Zack is a werewolf and Ray a ghost.
