Perry and Della attended a party. They quietly sat on a couch and sipped drinks.
A girl walked in. She had curly black hair.
"That's Carla Lansing," Perry whispered to Della.
"She's very pretty," she whispered back.
The hostess kissed Carla and she sat in a chair. She immediately slipped her shoes off and girlishly wiggled her toes.
Della smiled. "She's a free spirit."
"Who doesn't like to wear shoes!"
"Right."
The hostess came by with a tray of drinks. Carla got one and drank it down fairly quickly.
"She's nervous about something," commented Della.
He nodded. "Interesting."
Another girl came in—a redhead. Carla got up—still barefooted—and walked over to her. They hugged and kissed and went to a quiet corner of the room.
"That's her girlfriend Kathy O'Brian," said Perry.
Della looked intently at the two of them. Finally, she said, "Perry, I think they are a little more than just girlfriends!"
This shocked him. "You mean they are…"
"Lovers!"
"Lesbians?"
"Yes!"
"Are you sure, Della?"
"90% sure. If I'm wrong, you can fire me!"
He whistled quietly. They continued looked at the two girls.
"I think your right! And if that's true, tis will blow the whole case wide open! Della, you could work for Paul Drake!"
"What and leave you?!"
They both laughed quietly.
