Chapter 1 is in progress... i think. chapter 2 is what came to my mind first for whatever reason so i decided to write it down.
Chapter 2 – Unknown Encounter
Antoine was guarding the entrance to Knothole, he had elected to stay behind in order to guard the base. but really he had just wanted some time to himself and to slack off a bit. but a rustle in the bushes brought him immediately to attention. no way he'd let the princess see him being anything other than his best self. hopefully it would just be a small forest critter. no such luck. a stranger walked out, into antoine's line of sight.
The stranger was a fox. He looked a bit younger than Antoine himself. He wore a white labcoat. He has... two tails? He has some form of mechanical device attatched to his left wrist. he's currently tapping buttons on it. "YES! I MADE IT!" He exclaims. Antoine draws his sword, points it at the intruder and demands "Who goes there!" (alas i cannot do his accent right. sooo if anybody wants to correct that, have at it.) The stranger looks at Antoine, blinks a few times and smiles. "Antoine! It's me Tail. well... i guess you probably wouldn't recognise me like this; But 5 years of growth will do that to you." Antoine replies "I dont recognize you. You are not Tails. I don't know how you found this place but if you won't leave I'll use force." He brings his sword down on the intruder. "oh crap!" The intruder dodges to the left but Antoine keeps swinging. "Antoine! wait! let's! talk! about! this!" he dodges a sword swing inbetween each word. this goes on for a minute or so before the intruder says "okay, aaaand we're not doing this anymorme" he presses a few buttons on his wrist device and a shimering blue field materializes around him. Antoine's sword swings are turned away from their target by this mysterious blue barrier. The intruder sits down and says "you might as well stop. you're not getting through this shield. i designed it myself and you'll be here for years trying. i doubt even sonic could get through it. now if we could wait for everybody else to get back and HOPEFULLY cooler head will prevail and i can prove who I say that I am. so WOULD YOU PLEASE stop trying to cut me with your sword. That's kinda dangerous and I don't want you or me to get hurt." Antoine grasps the sword with both hands and puts all his strength into one final swing downward. the blade bounces off the shield and flies bakcwards out of his hands, embedding itself into a tree. The intruder says "see? i told you that it's pointless. please stop before somebody gets hurt?"
10 minutes later
The rest of the freedom fighter crew comes walk back. They look extremely depressed as if a great loss had befallen them mere moments ago and they had yet to come to terms with it. Sonic sees Antoine with someone he doesn't recognize. Something is clearly up and Sonic intends to find out what. Sonic asks "Alrighty, who are you? I've never seen you before and i'm in NO MOOD for anybody's crap I just lost my brother today and I'm this close to hitting something." Antoine says "This guy here has to be some sort of robot spy. he claims to be Tails but that's not possible." That... was clearly the wrong thing to say, and the right thing to say to make Sonic snap. The intruder had deactivated his shield and was walking towads Sonic in a friendly manner. Seemingly not hearing what was just said, too happy to see Sonic. his arms are outstretched to hug him, but instead of a hug, he gets a punch to the jaw hard enough to send him skipping along the ground and into a tree. he staggers to his feet and asks "why? why would you hit me sonic? why would you attack your bro?" Sonic says with rage "nobody EVER gets to call me their brother except for the real Tails, and thanks to robotnik, HE'S DEAD! and you expect me to NOT want to beat the crap out of someone claiming to be him? rubbing salt in that wound? you don't even look like him! he was just 8! he was just a child, and robotnik KILLED HIM." "I can prove it! give the the chance to prove it!" "no more chances, not for ANYTHING having to do with robotnik. i'm DONE giving chances!" Sonic charges up a spindash. The intruder jumps just in time for the spindash slam into the tree where he was a moment ago. the tree starts to crack and soon falls down. the intruder decides NOT to fight sonic and starts spinning their tails to hover away from the fallen tree. he says "look at me! who else can do this?!" Sonic replies "knowing robotnik, he could easilly make something that could! I'll scrap you like the rest of his trash!" "can a robot do this?" the intruder takes a scalpel from out of his coat with his right hand and uses it a gash into his left palm. A steady stream of warm, wet, blood starts gushing from the wound and dripping down his palm. he asks again "CAN A ROBOT BLEED?!" Sonic pauses in his assault. whoever this is, they did make a point. robots don't bleed and that method of flight? robotnik had never done something like that before. something didn't add up. The intruder lowers himself to the ground and raises his hands. he says "I... I don't want to fight you. I won't fight you. but i hope you're the same guy i remember. someone who wouldn't do something as amoral as attacking someone who isn't fighting back. so please. hear me out." a tear leaves his eye.
Sally steps forward. She demands 'alright! everybody stop! break it up now!" then to Nicole "alright nicole, scan him. if he is who he says he is, then the biometrics will show it" a light is emited from NICOLE's device. it goes up and down the intruder several times before a "ding" is heards. NICOLE says "I don't believe it either, but besides accounting for a few years of growth give or take, these readings say that that fox right there is in fact Tails." the now identified Tails says "there, see? now can i please hug each of you hard enough that it hurts? because i haven't seen any of you in 5 whole years and I missed you. not a day went by that I didn't miss you." The group shares a hug and Tails feels warmer than he has in years. once the group let go of their embrace, Tails says "now can i please be directed to a couch or somewhere soft? i haven't slept in 3 whole days and i'm ready to start snoring where i stand."
Chapter 3
Tails woke up not knowing where he was. Then it all came back to him. the dimmensional jump, the fight with sonic. okay. right. he's in knothole that's good. he could be in a lot worse places. (i'm sorry but... "You're finally awake. you were trying to cross the border between dimmensions.- okay the tribute to the meme gods is given) Sonic noticed Tails up and says "You're up. guys come in here he's awake!" The gang files into the room. Sonic is the first to speak. "so i have tons of questions. how did you get here? when do you grow up? what's that on your wrist? why couldn't antoine cut you?" Tails says "whoa whoa whao. one at a time please. i have a lot of things to explain and there's plenty of time to do it. so i guess, first up is what exactly happened to me. so i'm sure from the ground it probably looked like i was sucked into a wormhole or something. which i was. i was sent to an alternate dimmension. as for how i look like this, well that dimmension's time flows a little faster than ours and i'm not even going to try to explain that in both detail and in a way anybody can understand. suffice to say i aged. so ANYWAY. remember that machine i stopped? in that dimmension, I apparently did not stop it. i found myself in a blackened husk of a forest. I walked over to the nearest tree, grabbed a branch, and snapped it. the whole tree disintegrated once i disturbed it. this truely was a field of death. but there had to be something. there had to be something still alive in here. i just kept telling myself that. but that was before i found what was left of knothole. I... I won't describe what i found. it horrified me beyond words. so i left. but my jouney was a long one. everything outward from robotropolis was just gone. i flew up to get a better look and it's just miles of dead trees and ash. i had no way of knowing how far it went so i just picked a direction and started walking. 3 days later, by sheer luck, and about to pass out, i make it to casino night. a kind passer by invited me over for dinner. i didn't realize people could actually be so nice. here i was starving to death and about to drop from dehydration and this random guy was like 'i'm not going to let this kid die' so, not having much of an option at that point, i just followed a random stranger home with the promise of food and drink. yes, i know how that looks. but you have to understand how desperate i was. luckilly this man was NOT trying to kidnap children to sell them to robotnik for experiements or whatever. so over dinner, i inquired about things in this world in a way that wouldn't sound weird. he was helpful, answered my questions up until i asked about the forest, stating that i lived there for a time. he turned on the tv and tuned into the the news. it contained an ongoing story about that topic. it was everywhere. robotnik didn't just burn our home, he burned the entire continent. something about sending a message. that took a minute to process. so everyone i loved was dead, and AN ENTIRE CONTINENT worth of life was just... gone. Robotnik was really intending to rule the planet... even if there was nothing left to rule. so, i decided, since nobody else was going to stand up to him in this hemisphere, i'd do it myself." Sonic asks "so even in this... other world, robuttnik still has his hands in things." "it's true, sonic. the war never ends, the battlefield just changes. and because of that, i knew i couldn't stop fighting."

when Tails finds out the continent was burned, what was burned was from the other side of the river next to 18 all the way up to the yellow part. the ENTIRE orange zone has been wiped out. quite the message sent.
